Maxine J. Fidler
Maxime J. Fidler, 78, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at her home in the Yaak.
She was born at York, Neb., on April 30, 1920, to Harvey and Louise Jenkins.
A longtime resident of Oregon City, Ore., Maxime moved to the Yaak area in 1993.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Fidler.
Survivors include her children, Jack Fidler, Yuma, Ariz.; Barbara Buckmeir, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; Patty Pavard, Troy, and Donna Shaffer, Albany, Ore.; sisters Vivian Hadler, Sparks, Nev., and Della LaFlamme, Selma, Ore. 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Interment will take place Friday at Oregon City.
Local arrangements were made by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Wallace B. Harlin
Wallace B. Harlin, 56, of Libby, died at his home Tuesday, April 13, 1999.
Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Billy Cox
Funeral services for Billy W. Cox will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 1999, at the Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Spokane, with Pastor Jim Clifton officiating.
Burial will follow at 4 p.m. Saturday in the City of Libby Cemetery.
Cox was born on Dec. 23, 1922, at Indianapolis, Ind., to Morton B. and Mahala Gilbert Cox.
After the death of his parents Billy was raised by an uncle and aunt, Will and Muriel Hedrick.
He graduated from high school in Winner, S.D. and served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot from 1942-1945. He flew B-17s, B-25s and B-29s during World War II. He then served as an OSI Agent 1950-1968, retiring from McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma.
He loved flying and continued as an instructor at Ladd AFB and Eielson AFB in Alaska. He later owned his own plane and saw much of this country from the air.
After retiring from the Air Force, Cox was employed by Spokane Transit.
He married Bonnie L. Coup of Libby on July 30, 1949.
Survivors include his children, William L. Cox, Corvallis, Ore.; Jack L. Cox, Spokane; Carole A. Kostelecky, Tacoma, Wash.; J. Mark Cox, Boise, Idaho, and Gary S. Cox, Spokane; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leon Eugene Cox, Griffith, Ind.

Anna Munson
Anna Hilda Munson, 91, mother of Betty Ann Hafferman of Libby, died March 31, 1999, in Las Vegas, Nev., where she had lived for the past year.
She was born Jan. 8, 1908, in Frazee, Minn., to Edmund and Elizabeth Alzheimer. The family moved to Collins in 1910.
Anna married Archie Howard Munson on April 23, 1923, in Collins.
She is survived by her children, Betty Ann, Libby; Grace, Bellevue, Wash.; Lewis, Bremerton, Wash.; Kathy, Las Vegas; Bob, Lolo; Sandie, Bremerton; Steve, Renton, Wash., and Paulette, Lewiston, Idaho; 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother Ed, Choteau; sister Betty, Sheridan, Wyo., and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and two sisters.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 420 West Pine, in Missoula.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be at St. Mary’s Annex, Missoula.
The family requests that memorials be made to Partners in Home Care Hospice, 500 N. Higgins, Suite 201, Missoula 59801.

Mary Anne Kelso
Former Libby resident Mary Anne Kelso, 79, of Bethany Beach, Del., died at her home on Friday, March 26, 1999.
The daughter of Eugene and Mary Rockmann Racicot, Mary Anne grew up in Libby, graduating from Libby High School with the Class of 1939.
Mary Anne married Frank Kelso in 1944.
They lived at Falls Church and Fairfax, Va., before moving to Bethany Beach.
Mary Anne was known to many friends as Mak, the name with which she signed her paintings. She was a member in good standing of the ‘‘Stagettes.’’
Survivors include her husband, Frank, Bethany Beach; daughter Lynne Kelso Berg, Millville, Del.; sons Jeffrey Kelso, Richmond, Va., and Chad Kelso, Caroline County, Va.; and grandchildren Arcadia (Kady) and Jesse Kelso.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 9, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Rt. 26, Bethany Beach. Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Children International Fund, P.O. Box 419055, Kansas City, Mo.

Leonard Shoemaker
Leonard Kyle Shoemaker, 81, died March 30, 1999, at his home in Libby.
He was born May 4, 1917, at Waggoner, N.C., to Columbus and Ennis Lambert Shoemaker.
Raised and educated in North Carolina, Leonard later worked in Maryland.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 1942, serving with Army Infantry Reconnaissance in Italy and Africa. He was taken as a prisoner of war at Anzio and imprisoned for 14 months. He was honorably discharged in September 1945.
Leonard married Alice Balch on Sept. 6, 1947, at Elko, Nev.
They lived at Lark, Utah, where Leonard worked at the Lark Mine, and later in Ogden, Utah, where he worked in construction.
They came to Libby in 1966, where Leonard worked first for Hines Construction on the Libby Dam Project and later on the railroad relocation project. He also worked for Morrison-Knudson on the dam project until retiring in 1973 with a disability.
He was a member of the Operating Engineers and the American Legion. He also belonged to the Disabled American Vets.
Leonard enjoyed the Montana outdoors and loved fishing and hunting.
He and his wife solemnized their marriage at the Cardston, Alberta LDS Temple in 1988.
He was preceded in death by son Thomas Todd Shoemaker.
Survivors include his wife of more than 50 years, Alice, Libby; sons Leonard Shoemaker, Libby, and Douglas Shoemaker, Beatty, Nev.; daughters Marilyn Parkison, Jackson, Wyo.; Debbie McDorman, Lakeside; Betty Aleagha, Pescataway, N.J., and Jessica Shoemaker, Big Sky; brother Thomas Shoemaker, Wilmington, Del.; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Interment services, with military honors, will follow at the City of Libby Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

George Beardsley
George Henry Beardsley, 88, Libby, died Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 3, 1999, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
He was born in River Falls, Wis., in 1911. He was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard and worked on his parents’ farm until the family moved to Washington State in 1941.
He met and married Caroline A. Hinger in October 1941.
George and Caroline raised their family in Olympia, Wash., and George remained there after Caroline’s death in 1977.
He moved to Libby in 1994 to be close to his son Gaylen, living at the Libby Cabins Motel.
An avid cribbage player, George also loved to hunt and fish and was able to enjoy all these things until his death.
In Montana, George experienced many ‘‘firsts,’’ including being close to a moose and surviving and ‘‘the biggest snow of his life,’’ referring to the winter of 1996.
Friends in Washington and in Libby will remember George as a loving father and grandfather and a kind friend who always had a joke or hunting story to tell.
Survivors include sons Shannon D. Beardsley, Tenino, Wash., and Gaylen G. Beardsley, Libby; grandson Christopher Beardsley, Olympia, and granddaughter Debra L. Cook, Kansas City, Mo.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m on Saturday, Nov. 6, at Olympic Memorial Gardens in Olympia.
