Bernice M. Bryant
POLSON - Bernice M. Bryant, 85, died of natural causes Oct. 22, 1999, at Evergreen Health Care Center here.
Bernice was born Dec. 27, 1913, in Ronan, the daughter of Mary Rose Morigeau Clairmont and John Clairmont. She attended the Sisters' school in St. Ignatius as well as school in Ronan. She graduated from high school in Chemawa, Ore., and attended nursing school in Missoula.
After working in Oklahoma, she moved to Seattle when her parents' family relocated there. She remained in Seattle for most of her working life, living for short periods in Spokane, in North Dakota and Alaska. After retiring from Boeing, Bernice moved back to Ronan.
Bernice enjoyed traveling and visited China, England, Scotland, Italy, France, Mexico, the Caribbean and Hawaii, and drove across the U.S. by car several times. During retirement, she enjoyed golfing, playing cards and bowling. She always enjoyed reading.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Stevenson; second husband Ben Bryant; brothers Harold and Lawrence Clairmont; sister Alice Sly, and by her parents.
She is survived by her daughter Carlene Barnett of Polson; grandchildren Micah Barnett of Los Angeles, Casey Barnett of Phnom Phen, Cambodia, and Molly Barnett of Seattle; sisters and brothers Ruth Hall, Myrtle Whittle and Gene Clairmont, all of Polson, and Lillian Thomas and Phillip Clairmont of Seattle, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Oct. 24 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Polson, Rev. Gary Reller officiating. Inurnment followed at the Ronan Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the D'Arcy McNickle Library at Salish Kootenai College, Box 117, Pablo, 59855, for the children's area.
Grogan Funeral Home of Polson was in charge of arrangements.
Don Williams
POLSON - Don Stanley Williams, 72, of Polson died of cancer Feb. 24, 2000, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.
He was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Virginia City to Oscar and Dorothy Williams. He grew up in Madison County and graduated from high school in Bozeman. Don later enlisted in the navy. After his military discharge, he lived and worked in several places throughout the United States, but he always returned to Montana.
He met Muriel Hall in Aberdeen, Wash., and they were married Sept. 27, 1969, in Tacoma, Wash. They continued to live in Aberdeen until moving to Polson in 1973.
Don worked for C&R Pontiac in Polson. Later he founded the Draggin' Wagon wrecker service. He also owned and operated Don's Flathead Chevron for several years. He eventually sold that business but continued to run the wrecker service until he fully retired.
Don enjoyed his radio-controlled airplanes, stock car racing, fishing, hunting, motorcycles and metal detecting. He especially enjoyed the times spent with his coffee buddies and at the airport.
He attended First Baptist Church of Polson and was a lifetime member of VFW and Kiwanis.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
He is survived by his wife Muriel of Polson; a son, David Williams and wife Rosalind and their children, Kaitlyn and Sean, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Dawn Schultz and son Joshua of Polson; a sister, Betty Jane Marriage and husband Don of Colorado, and a brother, Ellis Clark Williams and wife Lauri of Missoula.
A memorial service was held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Polson, with the Rev. Rudy Ringhoff officiating.
The family said that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Cremation and arrangements were by Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory, Polson.
Grace Philleo
POLSON - Grace Dahl Philleo, 78, of Polson died of natural causes at her home on Feb. 26, 2000.
Grace was born Aug. 8, 1921, in Havre to Severt J. and Sarah V. Dahl. She grew up and attended schools in Havre and graduated from high school there. She later attended Sacred Heart Hospital Nursing School in Havre.
She joined the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and served as a registered nurse in the European Theatre. She remained in the military until 1951. She returned to Montana and eventually took a nursing position at Galen State Hospital.
Grace married Franklin L. Philleo on July 8, 1963. He died in 1989. Grace moved to Polson in 1973 and worked as a RN at St. Joseph Hospital until her retirement from nursing in the late 1980s.
She was an avid quilter and an antique collector, and was very interested in the arts.
Surviving are a son, Severt Philleo of Polson, and a sister, Margaret D. Fleming of Kula Maui, Hawaii.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation and arrangements were by Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory of Polson.
Stanley Oliver Jr.
ST. IGNATIUS - Stanley J. Oliver Jr., 61, died Feb. 24, 2000, in Hollywood, Fla.
He was born in St. Ignatius on Jan. 5, 1939, to Stanley and M. Josephine Cote Oliver. He attended schools in Mission and Ronan, and graduated from Missoula County High School in 1957. In 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he learned airplane mechanics, a trade he practiced for the remainder of his life.
His love for airplanes never diminished, nor did his love for the Mission Valley. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the mountains when home.
He married Diane Price on Jan. 15, 1966, in Florida, where he lived. She was the love of his life.
He was preceded in death by his father and brothers Richard "Buddy," Kenneth and Mark "Tony."
He is survived by his wife; his mother; brothers Bob and his wife Darlene of St. Ignatius and Doug and his wife Leola of Spokane; sisters Micky Jensen of St. Maries, Idaho, Barbara of St. Ignatius, Judy of Lolo, Linda of Ronan, Lora of Dixon and Susan Jo of Orofino, Idaho.
Rosary will be recited today (Thursday) at 8 p.m. in the Longhouse in St. Ignatius. Wake closing will begin there at 10 Friday morning, with Mass of the Resurrection to follow at 11 at the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission, Fr. Gus Schmidt, SJ, as celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery, with military honors.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Foster and Durgeloh Funeral Home of St. Ignatius.
Lillian Boggess
MISSOULA - Lillian Mae Boggess, 67, died of pneumonia May 12, 2000. at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.
She was born in Sacramento, Calif., to Louise and Anesecto Sandoval. A member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, she worked as a cook for the senior citizen center for many years.
Lillian enjoyed and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to yard sales, gardening and flowers, horse racing, quilting and making yummy chili and fry bread.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Casey Monahan, baby son Charles Charlo, daughters Maria Beth Charlo and Denita Routzen.
She is survived by her husband David "Dude" Boggess of Missoula; her children: Gene and Tammy Charlo and family of Ronan, Buddy and Debbie Boggess and family of Prinevile, Ore., Marti Boggess and boys of Ronan and Dan Boggess of Missoula, Robin and Gary and family of Charlo; 24 grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren: Angel (Dave), Bradley (Julia) and his daughter Breann, Mark, Tony (Lila) and his son Kayden, Michael, Brittani, Tara (Vince) and their children Sha-shena, Elijah, Kayala and Joey, Carla, Clayton, Jason and his daughter Maria, Casey, Sundance and his son Isaac, Kayla Beth, Dylan, Chelsea, Levi, Joshua, Lindsay, Tabitha, Timothy, Jr., and Daniel, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mass of the Resurrection was held Monday at the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission, with cremation following.
Arrangements were by Foster and Durgeloh Funeral Home of St. Ignatius.
