Robert Schmasow
Robert A. Schmasow, 76, of Libby, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls.
He was born on Nov. 15, 1924, at Richey, to Arthur and Vesper Schmasow and attended school at Nashua.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, serving during World War II.
Following his honorable discharge Robert returned to the Great Falls area where he was employed by the Great Northern Railroad.
He transferred with the railroad to Libby in 1955 and later worked as a millwright for St. Regis Paper Company, W.R. Grace & Co., and on the Libby Dam Project.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Carpenters Union.
Survivors include a step-daughter, Kathy Holder, Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers Chet Schmasow, Great Falls, and Stan Schmasow, Wolf Creek; sisters Sadie Lippert, Fort Benton, and Shirley Rounds, Tucson, Ariz., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Interment services will be conducted later at Highland Cemetery in Great Falls.
Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

I. V. Trevino
I.V. Trevino, 83, of Libby, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at the Libby Care Center.
He was born on April 25, 1907, at Alice, Texas, to Leonard and Elena Trevino.
He was raised and educated in Alice and later worked there for J.C. Penneys.
He married Adelina Flores in 1937.
Trevino served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, returning to Alice after receiving an honorable discharge.
He worked with the city police department and went to night school, earning his GED and later a bachelor’s degree in business.
Trevino and his family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1951 where he was associated for many years with the Corpus Christi Bank and Trust, retiring in 1974.
He and his wife also lived in New Braunfels, Texas before moving to Libby in 1985.
Adelina died in November 1999.
Trevino had a wonderful sense of humor and loved practical jokes. He was devoted to his wife and was kind and generous, a true Southern gentleman.
A lifelong devout Catholic, he was a fourth-degree knight of the Knights of Columbus and a longtime member of the Corpus Christi Lions Club.
Survivors include son Robert I. Trevino and his wife Lila, San Antonio, Texas; daughter Lillian Martin and Ray Baenen, Libby; six granddaughters, Tiffany, Erin, Lori, Leslie, Lisa and Lamar and three great-grandchildren.
Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Ray Hannigan as celebrant.
Interment services followed at the City of Libby Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Lowell Lawson
Lowell Lawson, 53, a 30-year Libby resident, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2001, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
He was born on April 15, 1948, at Pineville, Ky., to Daniel and Molly Lawson.
As a teenager, Lowell moved with his family to Fort Wayne, Ind., where he graduated from high school.
Lowell moved to Libby about 30 years ago, working for the U.S. Forest Service planting trees and fighting fires. He also worked for Fire Tech and more recently in a machine shop.
Lowell enjoyed hunting, fishing, football, NASCAR, gardening, flowers, birds and all kinds of animals.
Always willing to lend a hand, Lowell’s had a sense of humor that could be counted on to cheer up anyone who was feeling down.
Survivors include his wife Jan Lawson, Libby; daughters Amanda Dimihri and her husband Mehrdad, Fort Wayne, and Holly Sarbaurn and her husband Keith, Libby; brothers Virgil Lawson, Bobby Lawson and his wife Libby and Ernest Lawson, all of Fort Wayne; sisters Dorothy Brummett and her husband Luther, Fort Wayne, and Novella Nelson and her husband Jerome, Libby, and four grandchildren, Kyle, Kesley, Ashlyn and Dylan.
Viewing will be from 1-8 p.m. Thursday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Nazarene.
Arrangements are by the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Phylis Cole
Phylis L. Cole, 67, beloved mother and friend, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at the Clark Fork Valley Hospital in Plains.
She was born April 1, 1934, at St. Ignatius, to Harold and Frances Harbor Nelson.
She married Floyd Cole on May 27, 1951, at the Troy Methodist Church.
Phylis was a member of the Troy Saddle Club and involved with the J Cees and J Ceens. She owned a ceramic shop and was part owner of “The Flying Needles,” a knitting business. She also helped her husband with the family ranch.
She spent many hours with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending all of their activities. She was a good friend to all and her smile and good natured laughter will be missed.
Phylis was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Floyd.
Survivors include son Bruce Cole and his wife Debbie, Troy; daughters Francine Ninneman, Missoula, and Theresa Merritt and her husband William, Troy; sister Joanne Norman and her husband Chuck, Troy, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Troy United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Thursday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home, in charge of local arrangements.

Lee Harmon
Longtime Libby resident Lee C. Harmon, 85, died surrounded by his family at his home on Thursday evening, Jan. 17, 2002.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1916, at Malta, to John and Pauline Harmon and moved to Libby with his family in 1919.
Lee was raised and educated at Libby, graduating from Libby High School with the Class of 1934.
He shared 60 wonderful years with his wife, one time Libby schoolteacher Vesta Knoke. They were married on June 5, 1941.
Lee worked for the Kootenai Mercantile Company in Libby and later was employed for many years by J. Neils Lumber Company and St. Regis Paper Company, retiring in 1978,
An avid outdoorsman, Lee enjoyed traveling the remote, mountainous areas surrounding Libby, fishing and photography. He is especially remembered by family and friends for his story telling ability.
Survivors include his wife Vesta, Libby; daughter Leone Harmon, Missoula; sons Chuck Harmon and his wife Alice, Spokane, and Jim Harmon and his wife Linda, Missoula; grandchildren Scott Harmon and Jennifer Harmon, and great-grandchild, Ryan Scott.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Libby with the Rev. Robert Foote officiating.
Memorials may be made to Hospice or to Home Health, 350 Louisiana Ave., Libby.
Arrangements are under the care of Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Heather Jo Leckrone
Heather Jo Leckrone, 29, of Libby, died Jan. 19, 2002, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
She was born on Jan. 21, 1972, at Libby, to Dean and Sherrye Buchanan Leckrone.
Heather attended Libby schools for 12 years.
She enjoyed long, scenic mountain drives and listening to music in her car.
A loving mother, daughter and sister, Heather was also a caring friend who will be missed by many.
Friends recall her as “a beautiful woman with a heart of gold,” known by many for her heart-felt laugh.
Survivors include sons Justin Brickey and Logan Leckrone, parents Dean Leckrone and his wife Connie, and Sherrye Buchanan, all of Libby; brother Dustin Leckrone, Libby; sisters Kimberly Lockman, Ketchikan, Alaska and Lacey Schnetter, Libby; aunts Charlene Leckrone, Libby; Reita Love, Ogden, Utah; Camille Hage, Seattle, and uncles Kenny Buchanan, Reno, Nev.; Derek Leckrone, Tacoma, Wash., and Daren Leckrone, Mill Creek, Wash.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel.
Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
