Michael H. Warren
Former Libby resident Michael H. Warren, 57, of Missoula, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at St. Patrick Hospital.
He was born on July 7, 1942, in Eureka to Jack and Clara Warren.
Mike enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961 and after receiving his honorable discharge, continued to serve with the National Guard.
He earned a GED in 1973.
Mike made a career of driving truck, everything from highway to logging. He was also a good mechanic.
He loved fishing, working on his friends’ cars, hanging out at Kent Brothers and Ruby’s and just driving around town. A fun-loving individual who took pleasure in the simple things, Mike loved life and was at peace with himself.
Preceded in death by his parents, great-uncle Warren Pomeroy and brother Larry Warren, Mike is survived by oldest son Travis Warren, Missoula; youngest son Calvin Warren, Billings, and five grandchildren, Cody, Kylie, Malorie, Rayson and Alyssa.
Services will be conducted at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Garden City Funeral Home with a reception to follow in the community room at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under direction of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.
Henrietta Hiatt
Henrietta S. Hiatt, 91, of Libby, died Sunday evening, May 21, 2000, in the Libby Care Center.
She was born on Aug. 22, 1908, at the Ohio, Illinois home of her parents, Frank Neatherton Shawl.and Julia Young Shawl.
She moved with her family to Hobson in 1918, where, at the age of 12 she was a “hand,” driving the header barge team during the wheat harvests and doing numerous other chores on the family ranch.
After her father’s death in 1922, Henrietta and her brothers and sisters returned with their mother to Glen Ellyn, Ill.
In 1930 Henrietta met and married Willis (Bill) Hiatt and they lived at Glen Ellyn until moving to Libby in 1947.
Henrietta was a loving wife and mother. She and Bill were original and devoted members of Faith Bible Church. She enjoyed music and always volunteered for the choir as well as kitchen duty.
She loved to entertain and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends for a meal, a day or a week.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 1992; sons Michael Scott Hiatt in 1970 and Dennis Hiatt in 1942; sisters Nell Slauson in 1991 and Blanche Nettels in 1984, and by brother Bill Shawl in 1967.
Survivors indclude daughter Jacqueline Hiatt Wilson and her husband Wilbur, Libby; a brother, the Rev. Raymond Shawl, Woodstock, Ill.; granddaughters Jennie Hautala, Helen Wilson, Patricia Nielsen and Josie Smith; great-grandchildren Jerico Winchester, Jordan Winchester, Eric Hautala, Ian Ellis, Laura Hautala, John Nielsen, Karl Nielsen, Adam Nielsen and Patrick Wilson; great-great-grandchild Kollin Winchester, six nephews, three nieces and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Faith Bible Church with the Rev. Dale Pederson officiating. Interment will follow in the City of Libby Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Faith Bible Church.

Catherine Peterson
Former Libby resident Catherine Medora Schneider Peterson, 91, died May 13, 2000, in Walla Walla, Wash.
She was born Feb. 10, 1909, at Libby, the oldest of the six children of Clarissa and John Schneider.
Catherine married Floyd Peterson in 1926. He died in 1959.
Catherine lived in Goldendale, Wash., from 1960-1980, was active in the United Methodist Church and was a longtime member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was recognized with the Rebekah Lodge’s degree of chivalry in 1984.
She worked as a home health care assistant and housekeeper.
Catherine enjoyed sewing, quilting, cookie baking and letter writing. Her love for small children and visitors never faltered and she will be remembers for her unassuming gentle nature and quiet chuckle.
She had been a resident of the Odd Fellows Home in Walla Walla for the past 12 years.
Catherine was married for 33 years and widowed for 41 years.
In addition to her husband, Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Myrtle, who died at the age of six; grandson Frank Lyon; brothers Bill and George Schneider and sister Clara Day.
Survivors include daughter Floydene Lyon, Klickitat, Wash.; son Lloyd Peterson, Fall City, Wash.; sister Frannie Oman, Everett, Wash., brother Clair Schneider, Libby, nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was conducted on May 20 at the Erdman’s Funeral Home in Goldendale.
Her ashes will be buried with her husband in the City of Libby Cemetery.
Ray Miner
Ray William Miner Jr., 74, of Libby, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 24, 1925, at Colusa, Calif., to Ray William and Carolyn Christensen Miner.
Ray served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, participating in the invasion of Okinawa and serving in China.
He married Dorothea Tyson at Lake Tahoe, Calif., in 1947.
Ray graduated from the University of California in 1952 and began working for the U.S. Forest Service at Grangeville, Idaho.
In 1972 he and his family were transferred to Libby. Ray retired from the Forest Service in 1985.
He spent many happy hours volunteering at the Heritage Museum.
Survivors include his wife Dorothea, Libby, and children John and Stacie Miner, Ogden, Utah; Richard and Barbara Miner, Beaverton, Ore.; Susan and Michael Cummings, Fairfax, Va., and Dave and Virginia Miner, Temple, Texas. He is also survived by a brother, James Miner, El Dorado Hills, Calif., and eight grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
Memorials may be made to the Heritage Museum or St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
Cathrine O'Rourke
Cathrine J. O’Rourke, 89, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at her home in Libby.
She was born on Nov. 26, 1910, in Ely, Minn., the fifth of nine children of Steven and Manda Sporich.
She moved to Warland as a child, where she was raised and educated.
During World War II, Cathrine moved to Washington where she worked as a riveter for Boeing.
She met and married Jimmie (Rocky) O’Rourke in Seattle. They moved their family to Libby after the war, settling on Sheldon Flats where they started the Cripple Horse Ranch.
Cathrine enjoyed raising horses, was active in the 4-H program and was the proud leader of the Flying Hooves Drill Team.
She was a strong willed, hard working woman who touched the lives of many.
Cathrine was preceded in death by her husband.
Survivors include daughters Marijean Pittman and her husband Will, Waterloo, Iowa; Arlene Mary, Council, Idaho; Maureen Mar and her husband Sinyo, Lynnwood, Wash.; sisters Madge Moore and Barbara Orsborne, both of Vancouver, Wash., seven grandchildren, Ken, Kathy, Kelly, Wayne, Celeste, Jilene and Robert.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Friday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel with interment to follow in the City of Libby Cemetery.
Local arrangements are by the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
