Vernold Jordan

Vernold Jordan, age 78, of Miles City died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at the Holy Rosary Extended Care Facility in Miles City.

Born in Baker on May 18, 1926, he was the son of Lewis and Elizabeth Green Jordan. He attended schools in Baker and worked for area farms.

He worked a short time in Seattle, Wash., and married Erna Junkert on July 24, 1943 in Vancouver, Wash. They returned to Montana where he went to work for Montana Dakota Utilities at Little Beaver Compressor Station, 30 miles southeast of Baker. He moved into Baker, living there until 1981.

Mr. Jordan continued his employment with MDU at Hathaway as plant manager until 1988 when he retired and moved into Miles City where he resided since.

He loved to help his family with whatever they needed from remodeling to helping his grandson.

His survivors include his wife, Erna Jordan of Miles City; two sons, Dave Jordan, and his wife, Deb, of Billings and Steve Jordan, and his wife, Carmen, of Broadus; and two daughters, Linda Hurley, and her husband, Jim, of Baker and Vicki Clear of Miles City.

Survivors also include two sisters, Shirley Barth, and her husband, Reinhard, of Baker and Luella Lintvedt, and her husband, Charles, of Othello, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Virgil Jordan.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County Cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Wesleyan Church, P.O. Box 543, Miles City, MT 59301.

Jerry Ivan "Jake" Hagwood

Jerry Ivan "Jake" Hagwood, 65, of Terry, formerly of Waynesboro, Va., died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City where he had been a patient since Thursday, March 31.

Mr. Hagwood was born Aug. 16, 1939, in Waynesboro, Va., the son of Troy I. and Elizabeth H. Hagwood.

He was the original cowboy with a big heart who loved his family, friends and the wide open spaces. Mr. Hagwood was owner of Red Hawk Enterprises. He was a License Equestrian who transported horses throughout the United States and Canada.

He retired and moved to Terry Montana in May of 2001.

Mr. Hagwood was a great animal lover and an advocate of Animal Protection Rights. The best part of a person's life is not his fame, wealth or ability. The best part of Mr. Hagwood's life was the little nameless, unremembered acts of kindness he gave to others.

His survivors include one daughter, Teresa Hagwood Kinzie, and her husband, Lawrence, of Dillwyn, Va.; one son, Thomas Allen Hagwood, and one grandson, Troy Allen Hagwood, of Reno, Nev.; one sister, JoAnn Hagwood McClamroch, and her husband, Donal L., of Waynesboro, Va.; two brothers, Troy Douglas Hagwood, and his wife, Naomi, of Waynesboro and Jack L. Hagwood, and his wife, Debby, of Manassas, Va. He is also survived by many relatives and friends in the Waynesboro, Virginia Community. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Elizabeth Hagwood.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 8, at 7 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Terry. Cremation will follow and a celebration of life will take place for family and friends at a later date in Waynesboro, Va.

In Mr. Hagwood's memory, memorial contributions can be made to the SPCA, 33 Archery Lane, Staunton, VA 24401; to the youth group at Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church, 901 Shenandoah Ave., Waynesboro, VA 22980 or to the Terry Baseball Program, P.O. Box 550, Terry, MT 59349.

Irene Lydia Friesz Matteucci

Irene Lydia Friesz Matteucci, 74, of Mountain View, Calif., former Miles City resident, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, in Mountain View.

She was born in Miles City on Feb. 23, 1932, and lived there for her entire childhood.

She graduated from Custer County High School in 1950, and then moved to Seattle at the age of 18.

She married Clarence Wilbur Matteucci of Butte and then accompanied him to Hawaii. In the early 1960's she settled in Sunnyvale, Calif., and raised her family.

Mrs. Matteucci worked as an engineering administrator in the aerospace industry and hobbied as a talented seamstress and avid gardener, she was a great supporter of many charities, she loved her travels all over the world and was the most proud of her children's and grandchildren's accomplishments.

Her Schmidt grandparents homesteaded near Miles City in the early 1900s and her parents, Adam and Frieda Friesz, raised their four children there, Mrs. Matteucci's brothers, Alvin and Calvin, and her sister, Adeline Friesz Chapin, who is the last surviving sibling and still resides in Miles City.

Mrs. Matteucci is survived by her children, Sandra Henderson of Sunnyvale, Calif., James Matteucci of Medford, Ore., Michael Matteucci of San Diego, Calif., and Tamara Petri of Petaluma, Calif.; in addition to nine grandchildren (many of them doctors, lawyers, dentists and teachers).

She also is survived by her sister-in-law, Maria Friesz; many nieces and nephews, most of whom still reside in Montana; her sister-in-law, Melba Matteucci, of San Anselmo, Calif.; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Jerry Matteucci of Butte.

Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Irma Hughey

Irma Ruth Hughey, 99, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at Parkview Assisted Living in Miles City.

Mrs. Hughey was born on July 13, 1905, in Saint Louis Park, Minn., the youngest of three daughters of Fred and Ruth Hunter Docken. When Mrs. Hughey was 13, the family moved to Mildred where her father took up farming. She attended Mildred schools but graduated from high school in McIntosh, S.D., where she was living with her sister and brother-in-law.

After teaching school for one year, she returned to Minneapolis where she attended beauty school.

In the 1940s, she and Harold Hughey, who was from Wyoming, were married and they spent many years traveling together and spending winters in Tucson, Ariz. Mr. Hughey died in Tucson in 1980.

Mrs. Hughey then moved to Miles City to be close to her sisters. She lived at Eagles Manor and then for the last five years with Sheri Stoltz and the care givers at Parkview Home where she received devoted compassionate care.

Her survivors include two nieces, Phyllis Foster of Rockville, Md., and Linda (Red) Barringer of Missoula; her nephew, Bryce (Elaine) Richards of Miles City; and all of her caregivers and the residents at Parkview Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 1980; and her two sisters, Dorothy Richards and Agnes Rogers.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 7, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Parkview Assisted Living, 106 S. Strevell Ave., Miles City, MT 59301 or to the charity of one's choice.
