Richard Savage
Richard H. Savage, 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by the beauty of Glacier National Park. His wife and childhood sweetheart, Audrey, was by his side.
He was born in Great Falls on Dec. 22, 1934. He was the youngest of five boys born to Frank and Stella Savage. His early years were spent in Niehart, where his parents owned a restaurant and boarding house. Later, the family moved to Belton and then to Somers. He attended Flathead High School and graduated in 1953. He also studied at the University of Washington.
He met his future wife, Audrey Treweek, in civics class at the age of 14. Nine years later, they were married and spent 44 years devoted to each other in sickness and in health.
Skiing was a focal point in his life. Inspired by his brother, George, he began skiing at King's Hill in Niehart.
Later, he was a ski racer for Flathead High School at Big Mountain. Upon graduation, he pursued a career in the ski industry. His career began in Sun Valley, Idaho, as a ski instructor and ski patrolman. He continued to instruct at Mount Spokane, Mount Pilchuk, and Mount Baker, Wash., as well as Whitefish's Big Mountain. He was also in sales for a number of years with Anderson and Thompson Ski Company based in Seattle, Wash. He was a life-time member of the Professional Ski Instructor's Association.
He and Audrey raised two children, Dan, a local veterinarian, and Karen, a school teacher in Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Stella Savage, and his brothers, Frank Jr., Gene, and Ralph Savage.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; his children, Daniel Savage and his wife, Sally Hash-Savage of Kalispell, Karen Savage and her husband, Andrew Bricker of Castle Rock, Colo.; brother, George Savage and wife, Ann of Deming, Wash.; sister-in-laws, Helen Savage of Great Falls, and Phyllis Parker and husband, Bobby of Kalispell; brother-in-law, Jim Treweek and wife, Marge of Eureka, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held May 19, at Epworth Methodist Church.
The family suggests memorials to the Intermountain Children's Home, 500 South Lamborn, Helena, Mont., 5960l, or to the Humane Society of Northwest Montana, 42 Woodland Park Drive, Kalispell, Mont., 5990l or to an organization of their choice.
Arrangements were under the direction of Johnson Mortuary and Crematory.
BARNETT MILLER...
Barnett R. “Bob” Miller, age 86, of Helena died peacefully Saturday evening March 31, 2001, at the Cooney Convalescent Home. He was born in Krum, Texas, October 22, 1914, to John Henry and Ava Lenore (Barnett) Miller. Bob attended and graduated high school in Krum, Texas, and later attended business college in Fort Worth.
On August 30. 1938, he was married to Roberta Sanders in Denver, Colorado. Bob and Roberta moved to Montana in August of 1946 and opened his taxidermist shop in Helena. Bob loved the life Montana had to offer, sports, shows, and wildlife organizations and clubs, fishing and hunting. He was a dear and wonderful loving person. A devoted husband, he loved his family and friends. Visiting with his hunting and fishing friends at the shop was a way of life for Bob.
Come join family and friends at a graveside service to be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Bob is survived by his wife Roberta of Helena, brother Joe Miller of Fort Worth, Texas, and sister Dorothy Nell McBee of Denton, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and four brothers.

ANN DAY...
Ann Day passed away Dec. 2, 2000, at Eagle Cliff Manor. She was born the daughter of Jacob and Sophia Madcke May 6, 1918, in Mercer County, N.D. She married Joseph Day in Livingston, Sept. 12, 1946.
She devoted her life to her family and had a unique sense of humor. She enjoyed growing African Violets and making sure the bird feeder was kept full through the winter. She loved all pets and enjoyed giving them treats when no one was watching.
She is survived by daughters, Shirley Solem (Curt) of Billings, Sharon Hathcock (Les) of Helena; and grandson, Kevin Hathcock of Chicago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe in 1982; infant daughter, Gloria in 1953; nine brothers, and sisters.
Cremation and memorial service has taken place. Memorials may be sent to: Transportation Fund, c/o Atonement Lutheran Church, 407 Wicks Lane, Billings, MT 59105. Arrangements are in care of Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
James LeDuc
James Kenneth "Buck" LeDuc, 78, former Kalispell resident, died in Grand Forks, N.D., on July 27, 2003.
He was born June 4, 1925, in Lakota, N.D., to Leo B. and Nelva J. (Howser) LeDuc. He was a World War II veteran. He married Dorothy Miller on Feb. 11, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lakota. Dorothy and "Buck" moved to Kalispell around 1950.
He was a general contractor, building many homes and businesses in the Flathead area and was also an owner of Ken's Motor and Cottonwood Art Gallery. He and Dorothy moved to Brocket, N.D., in 1990, and lived there until their deaths.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy, as well as his parents.
He is survived by his son, Gary LeDuc of Lake Stevens, Wash.; a grandson and a granddaughter, also of Lake Stevens; two brothers, Robert and Richard LeDuc of Kalispell; two sisters, Patricia Weed of Whitefish, and Donna Jones of McMinnville, Ore.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Christian burial was celebrated Aug. 4 at the Risen Christ Church with Father Rudolph Bullman as celebrant. Committal followed at the Glacier Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice in behalf of James Kenneth LeDuc.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Johnson Mortuary and Crematory.
MARGARET CHIVERS...
Margaret (Walters) Chivers of Helena passed away at her home, the Talbert House Wednesday morning, Dec. 6, 2000. She was 97. Margaret was born in Helena Oct. 31, 1903, the daughter of George Washington Walters and Louise Ralston Walters, a Marysville pioneer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two older brothers, George and Samuel Walters, and an older sister, Susannah (Walters) Penwell.
Margaret attended high school in Helena. She went to work for The Collins Land Co. in Helena, which she later owned and operated until its closure in 1973 due to urban renewal. Margaret married Jack Scott Chivers in Helena June 9, 1937. He preceded her in death June 5, 1997.
Margaret was very fond of their summer home at Canyon Ferry, which she always referred to as the “house in the country.”
Margaret was a long-time member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Helena and was active in the Wednesday morning worship group for many years. She was also a supporter of the Bargain Basement at St. Peter’s. Margaret was a charter member of the Soroptimist International of Helena, and instrumental in its founding in April 1944. She held all local and district offices and served as regional treasurer for the Northwestern region, Soroptimist International of America. She was also a member of Miriam Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and the Daughters of the Nile. She was an avid reader.
Jack and Margaret enjoyed their travels to Europe and Hawaii, and she attended nearly every District and Regional meeting of Soroptimists from 1944 until the late 1980s.
Since July 1997, Margaret has been lovingly cared for by Robbin Talbert at the Homestead Place in Montana City, and most recently at the Talbert House in Helena, and by her close friend, Helen Fandrich.
She is survived by a great niece, Beth Walters Phillips of Monroe, Wash., as well as her husband’s nieces and nephews, Barbara Paul of Helena, Beverly Bellusci of Missoula, Donald Truman of Atlantic City, N.J., Wallace Truman of Salem, Ore., Stanley Chivers of Williamson, N.Y., Jeanne Bushnell of Lincoln, Jo Ellen Eidum of Helena and Laurel McAtee of Sherwood, Ore.
A cremation has taken place. Margaret’s friends are welcomed to a memorial service at St. Peter’s Parish, 511 N. Park Ave. in Helena, Friday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to St. Peters Parish or to the Margaret W. Chivers Memorial Scholarship Fund established by Soroptimist International of Helena, P.O. Box 1216, Helena, MT 59624. The cremains will be interred at Forestvale Cemetery. Hagler-Anderson Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Mildred Hanson
Mildred F. "Millie" Hanson, 89, died July 27, 2003, at Immanual Lutheran Home in Kalispell.
She was born Jan. 13, 1914, in Crosby, N.D., to Edward and Alphild (Klaybo) Christensen. Millie was the oldest of three siblings. Her mother died when she was a child, so she and her younger sister moved to Kalispell to live with their grandparents.
She attended school in Kalispell and Crosby. After graduation she worked in the insurance business until 1937, when she married Earl Hanson. They lived in Crosby, N.D., where Earl operated a Mobil oil distributorship implement business which they later sold.
They moved and eventually settled in Lakeside about 1947, where she raised her family and where Earl was a local contractor.
She devoted herself to being a mother and homemaker during the years of her marriage. Her husband Earl passed away in 1972.
After she became a widow, she spent time in Missoula as a housemother at The University of Montana. She later went into real estate sales.
In 1987 she married Harold Hanson, Earl's brother, who was a widower. They continued to live in Lakeside. Millie had many talents and abilities. She expressed her artistic side by painting landscapes and portraits. She loved gardening, entertaining and making people feel welcome in her home. She was involved in many community activities over the years. Perhaps the most important to Milllie was the Lakeside Chapel, where she was a charter member and had been actively involved since its beginning. Millie has been a resident of the Immanuel Lutheran Home since October 2000.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl; her parents; and her brother, Elroy Christensen.
She is now survived by her sister, Adeline, and her second husband, Harold Hanson, of Kalispell; one daughter, Nancy Mironuck and husband Roy and their children Jeff, Lisa, Steve and Lindsay of Cranbrook, British Columbia; two sons, Keith Hanson and wife Maxine of Whitefish and Neil Hanson and wife Christine of Lakeside and their children, Douglas Hanson and wife Danae of Lakeside and Eric Hanson and wife Brenda of Whitefish; as well as by three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at the Immanuel Lutheran Home, followed by a private graveside service at Conrad Memorial Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be given to Lakeside Chapel or Immanuel Lutheran Home, Kalispell, MT 59901. Arrangements were under the direction of Johnson Mortuary and Crematory.
EDNA E. VORHIS...
Edna E. Vorhis, 92, of Elliston went to be with the Lord in Heaven Dec. 4, 2000.
Edna was born March 6, 1908, to Walter and Elizabeth White in Quincy, Ill. She attended schools and later worked at the hospital. Her family and brother, Sam White’s family all moved to Elliston in 1925. Edna married Jeddie Vorhis, who was working at the Elliston Lime Plant, Dec. 16, 1928, in Deer Lodge. The couple moved to Missouri and were both employed for the United Real Estate Company. They moved to Arkansas and later settled in Macron, Mo. After 25 years of marriage the couple was blessed with a baby girl, Dorothy Jeanette Vorhis.
Jeddie Vorhis died in 1952. Edna continued with the real estate business before moving to La Platte, Mo. where she opened a restaurant.
She returned to Elliston and opened a restaurant for a few years and later worked for John and Sue Quigley at Frontier Town. She retired at the age of 78 years young.
Edna was also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Ethel White; sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and Oscar Bellman, and brother-in-law, Dave Evans.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Jerry Horne of Elliston; five grandchildren and their spouses, Debbie and Dan Woodland, Chrissy and Robert Quigley, Vienna Horne, Shawn Horne and Julie Horne; six great grandchildren, Whitney and Chelsy Woodland, Jared and Emily Quigley, Eric and Scott Horne.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be Tuesday, Dec. 12, 1 p.m. in the Elliston Community Church with the Rev. Doug Forbes officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elliston Community Church or donors choice. Jewell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
