Gladys Rasmussen
Gladys Brooks Rasmussen, 93, Corvallis, died of natural causes at Valley View Estates in Hamilton on Monday, Feb. 26, 2001.
Born on Nov. 7, 1907, in Victor to Louis Newton and Lula Bell Brooks. Gladys was one of five children. She was raised and educated in Corvallis. She graduated from Corvallis High School and was an all-valley beauty queen.
On Sept. 1, 1942, she married Hector "Squib" Rasmussen. Gladys and Squib lived their entire married life at the Brooks family residence, the Brooks Hotel in Corvallis. The Brooks Hotel was nationally famous as a unique eating establishment which served home cooked meals, in a family-style atmosphere. Many celebrities visited and dined at the Brooks Hotel.
Gladys spent her entire life in the service of her husband, her family and the public. She is the last remaining member of her immediate family and is survived by her nephews, Russel Giesy, Roger Giesy and R.D. Giesy of Whitefish and Charles Swanson and Jim Swanson of Corvallis. She also has several grand nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton with Pastor Tim Altschwager officiating. Burial will follow at Corvallis Cemetery, with a lunch reception at the Corvallis Community Church CE building.
Pallbearers are: Roger Giesy, R.D. Giesy, James Swanson, Don Greenfield, Charles Swanson and Jim Swanson Sr. Honorary Pallbearers are: Carl Swanson, Russel Giesy and Jack McKinney.
Scott Smith
Scott Smith of Bozeman, 43, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2001, due to a motor vehicle accident at mile marker 5 on the West Fork road, off of U.S. 93 just west of Conner.
Scott was born Sept. 21, 1957, in Fresno, Calif., to Orlan and Bette (Ward) Smith. When Scott was seven his parents passed away due to a motor vehicle accident in Fresno. He and his sister were then raised by his uncle and aunt Carolyn and Virgil Ward in Bozeman and later by Carolyn and Marvin Kaber. Scott had many surrogate parents while growing up and in his adult life. Scott graduated from Bozeman High School in 1976 and then attended Montana State University in Bozeman.
Scott Smith and Stephanie Strong were joined in marriage Nov. 18, 1982, in Hamilton. Their son, Christopher was born to them in Bozeman in 1992.
Scott loved his family life and he was truly loved by them and all of his close and extended family. Scott has a very generous and giving spirit, and could never say no to anybody. Scott enjoyed spending time with his son Chris, they had a very strong relationship. "Scott the hot tub man" as many people affectionately knew him was the co-founder of Mountain Hot Tub with Tom Walker, his friend since fifth grade. They started the business together over twenty years ago. Scott's leisure time when he was not operating the business was spent shooting, collecting vintage Land Rovers, hiking, downhill skiing, sailing and reading. Everything Scott did was with family.
Scott is survived by his spouse Stephanie Gayle (Strong) Smith and son Christopher Scott Smith both of Bozeman; sister Robin Haller and spouse Dave; nephews Brian and Eric Haller all of Seattle; "parents" in-law Richard and Sandra Strong; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Leslie and Larry Moore and niece Emily of Los Angles; "grandparents" in-law Dorothy and Jack Babcock, Sr. of Spokane, Wash.; uncle Bruce Smith and aunt Karen Stumpf both of Colorado; cousin Roger and Cathy Ward of Colorado Springs, Colo.; uncle Virgil Ward of Belgrade; step father Marvin Kaber of Columbia Falls and many wonderful friends.
Please join the family for a celebration of Scott's life at 6 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2001, at the Bowl in Lindley Park in Bozeman. Dress for the occasion is casual.

Dowling Funeral Home and Crematory in Hamilton is assisting the family with service arrangements.
William Victor Mistove
William Victor Mistove, 63, of Corvallis passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, in Missoula at St. Patrick Hospital.
He was born on May 4, 1939, in Plainfield, N.J., the son of Albert and Mary Klemus Mistove.
Bill received his education in Dunellen, N.J.
Survivors include Georgeann Talbot Banks, Kelly Hancock, Laura Swanson, Kathy and Dan Powers, Pete and Yvonne Miller and family, LaDean Hamilton, Bill and Sharon Eddy, all of Corvallis. Other survivors include Terri Hritz of Pennsylvania, David Mark Killpack of Nevada, Brian Killpack of West Virginia, Robert Mistove of North Carolina, and Albert and Roger Mistove, both of New Jersey.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, LaDonna, in 1996.
Graveside services will be conducted, Friday, Aug. 23, at 3 p.m. at the Corvallis Cemetery with Bishop Adam Sangster officiating.
Arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.
Jerianne Lewis
Jerianne Lewis, 49, of Hamilton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.
Jerianne was born in Omaha, Neb., on Feb. 19, 1953. When she was 10 weeks old, the family moved to Crestwood, Mo., St. Louis County, where her father pursued his career in St. Louis.
Jerianne came to Hamilton from Sunset Hills, Mo., in 1993 to be near her parents, who were retired. She was employed by Buttrey's and then Albertson's super market for eight years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Lewis Sr., and her beloved nephew, Mark Lewis Jr.
Jerianne never married but had a large extended family. She is survived by her mother, Verna Lewis of Hamilton; a sister, Vicki McBride of Double Oak, Texas.; brothers, Mark Sr. of Hamilton, Frank Drew of Winter Park, Fla., Bryan Jay of Mesa, Ariz., and Gerald Jr. of Ft. Worth, Texas.
A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Hamilton with the Rev. John Darragh presiding. Private family urn placement will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.

Helen Gates
A former Corvallis woman died of natural causes Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at the Anaconda Nursing Home. Helen Gates was 78.
She was born Helen Patricia Tumulty in Butte on Feb. 21, 1923, to Patrick John and Flora Campeau Tumulty.
She graduated from Butte High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, in 1940.
She worked for an uptown Butte law firm and later for J.C. Penney Co.
On Sept. 13, 1941, Helen married John Charles Gates of Opportunity. Her husband was inducted into the army during WWII and while John was serving in the South Pacific, the couple's first son, Edward John "Ned," was born.
After John was discharged from the service, the couple moved to the Bitterroot Valley in 1946. They had a home on Hamilton Heights, where Helen was very involved in community activities, both with her church and in the education of her children. Here, she established many life-long friends.
In 1956 the family moved to Opportunity to John's father's ranch, which was originally homesteaded in 1919.
She was a past member of the Daughter of IsaBella and enjoyed crocheting and beadwork.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John, and a sister, Dorothy Erickson.
She is survived by four sons, Ned Gates and wife Donna and Daniel Patrick Gates all of Billings, John Thomas Gates and wife Carol of Opportunity and Roy Philip Gates and girlfriend Linda of Yuma, Ariz.; one daughter, Nancy Lee Maki and husband Ralph of Hamilton; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Pat Tumulty of Snohomish, Wash.
She had eight grandchildren, including Michael Maki of Hamilton and Michelle Maki of Hamilton, a niece, Marie Langevin, also of Hamilton and a nephew, Jack Erickson, of Butte.
Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 30, at the KT Riddle Funeral Home in Anaconda, with Pastor Thomas Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Anaconda.
