Eula Lyon Larson
Eula Lyon Larson, 86, of Hamilton, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2003, at the Autumn House in Corvallis.
She was born Sept. 27, 1916, in Hingham, the first of three girls born to the late Jesse and Lela Hutchins Lyon.
Eula graduated from Hingham High School in 1934 and from Kennedy Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1937.
She married Robert "Bob" C. Larson in Great Falls in 1939.
Eula worked as a nurse in the Glasgow Hospital and also at the Havre Deaconess Hospital. She worked in the first aid station at the shipyards in Richmond, Calif., during World War II.
Eula and Bob moved to Hamilton in 1947 and opened the first NAPA store in the valley. She worked part time with the Ravalli County Treasurer's Office during rush times for 26 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 1987 and a sister, Gladys Peterson in 1998.
Surviving include her sister, Fern Hunt of Lee's Summit, Mo.; two nephews, Eugene Peterson of Lolo and Paul Peterson of Great Falls; and several great-nieces and nephews.
At her request private family urn placement will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton.
Arrangements are under the care of Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.
The family suggests memorials to the Hamilton Senior Center or a charity of the donor's choice.
Rosalie E. Preston
Rosalie E. Preston, 92, of Missoula, died at Community Medical Center in Missoula on Sunday, June 22, 2003.

Catherine Lowman Byrne
Catherine Lowman Byrne, 89, of Sequim, Wash., died Feb. 8, 2002, in Sequim. She was born June 25, 1912, to Samuel Dane and Sarah Ada (Benson) Lowman in Darby. Catherine attended schools there and graduated from Darby High School in 1929. In 1933 she married Howard A. Bryne, also of Darby. Howard worked on the construction of Kerr Dam at Polson, and Howard and Catherine worked in the Christmas tree business in the Bitterroot and Flathead areas.
In 1942 Howard went to Alaska, working on the communication line to the lower 48. Catherine soon followed, and they remained in Fairbanks, Alsaka, until retirement in 1966. Howard was in the insurance business and Catherine worked at the old First National Bank of Fairbanks.
They were avid outdoorsmen, enjoying many happy times hunting and fishing on the Good Pastuer River, with friends and dog Sally. In 1966 they moved back to Montana, locating on the Flathead Lake. They moved to Sequim in 1972 for the mild climate, and remained there, with Howard passing in 1989.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; sisters Vearl and Grace and brothers Buford, Harold and Delbert.
No services are planned.
Those wishing to do so may make a donation in Catherine's memory to a charity of choice or to the local hospice.
Sequim Valley Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
James Richard Hayes,
James Richard (Dick) Hayes, 70, passed away due to cancer at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula on Thursday, Feb., 7, 2002. Born in High Point, N.C., on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1932, he was the son of Edgar Hiatt Hayes and Ollie C. (Chamelin) Hayes.
He graduated from High Point High School, and married Sallye Helene (Johnston) Hayes.
He enjoyed numerous outdoor activities including basketball, raising llamas, traveling to different areas and most of all "teas'n and pleas'n" the love of his life, Sallye.
He worked as a textile mill representative and a llama breeder.
Survivors include James (Jimmy) Richard Jr. and Susan Rowland Hayes; children James Richard III and Joshua Rowland Hayes of High Point; son John Edward Hayes and children Ashley Marie, Kayla Elizabeth, John Edward Jr. of Thomasville, N.C.; daughter Suzanne Elizabeth Bowe of Nashville, Tenn., as well as numerous nieces, nephews and nine grandchildren.
The family wishes you to join them in a moment of prayer, reflection and silence in memory of Dick and in uplifting Sallye, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002. The place is wherever you may find yourself at that time.

Ethel Louise Oertli
E. Louise (Shults) Oertli, 84, a Bitterroot native, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital of natural causes.
She was born Thursday, Feb. 1, 1917, northwest of Hamilton to Victor L. and Clara (Blodgett) Shults. She was a graduate of Corvallis High School and Kinman Business University, Spokane, Wash.
She married Edward T. Oertli on July 3, 1937. He preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 1991.
She was employed by Ravalli County for 37 years and was treasurer during that time for 12 years. She retired Jan. 1, 1975.
During World War II she worked in the resident inspector's naval materials office in Cheyenne, Wyo., while her husband was serving in the U.S. Army.
She enjoyed traveling abroad, all outdoor activities and her home. She was a past matron of Corvallis Chapter #59, Order of the Eastern Star, and a life member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary, and belonged to the Golden Agers and Five Valley Accordion Group.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Eldon, Delbert, Edward and Glenn Shults and sisters Clara E. Bohler and Mary L. Nicol.
She is survived by her son, Gerald E. (Pat) Oertli and spouse Paula of Hamilton; two granddaughters, Lanette Darrow and spouse Barry of Hamilton and Renee Oertli of Florence and five great grandchildren, Dustin, Sean, Sage all of Florence, Renee of Reno, Nev., and Gem of Missoula. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a sister-in-law, Lucelle Shults of Missoula.
Cremation has taken place at her request and a memorial service of remembrances was held in Louise's memory, Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Dowling Funeral Home in the chapel with Pastor Tim Altschwager of the Corvallis Community Church officiating. A private inurnment will be at a later date in Blodgett Cemetery.
