GEDA JACOBSON
POLSON -- Geda Jacobson died here on Sept. 13, 2004, after a short illness. Geda was born on April 22, 1921, to Norwegian immigrant parents Gustave and Josephine Jacobson in Velva, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and one sister, Linda Barnett. She is survived by her three sisters, Ina Sandland (Grygla, MN), Audrey Reim (Holyoke, CO), and Ruth Njaa (Wannaska, MN); and 21 nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. Geda's remains were sent to Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau, Minn., for services and burial.
CHARLES KEENAN
ARLEE -- Charles Keenan died on Sept. 26, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital in Ronan of natural causes. Charles was born in Arlee in 1918. He met his wife, Betty Dorn, in later years and they settled in Arlee. Charles was a "'cat skinner" for many years. He also worked on the railroad. He served in the Army during WWII. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He went to the Arlee Powwow every year. He enjoyed having a glass of wine every night with his dog, "Charley Chicken." He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Pat Keenan; his brothers Harry and Art Keenan; and a sister, Annie Espinoza; and numerous nephews and nieces. He is survived by his wife, Betty; their daughters, Sherry Scheeler and Pam Allensworth (both of Arlee); three grandchildren; four sisters Clara DuMontier, Mary Riekena, Rose Bacon and Regina Vietenheimer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial graveside services with military honors were held on Sept. 29 at the Jocko Cemetery near Arlee.
THERESA LEFTHAND
PLAINS -- Theresa Ruth Lefthand, of Hot Springs, died on Sept. 6, 2004, at Clark Fork Valley Hospital here after a short illness. She was born on Nov. 9, 1919, in Lonepine, to Coomsah (Morigeau) and Basil Lefthand Sr. She grew up and attended schools in Lonepine and Hot Springs. Theresa married Frank Nicolai Sr.; they later divorced. She was known throughout Indian Country for her excellent beading skills and hide tanning. She loved camping, huckleberry picking, crocheting and telling stories. She was an excellent seamstress. Theresa was a member of the Conf. Salish Kootenai Tribes. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Harriett Lefthand; a brother, Sam Lefthand; a grandson, Jimmy Nicholai; a granddaughter, Andrea Brown; and a step-son, Francis Ray Nicolai. She is survived by her son, Peter Sam "Jerry" Nicolai (Hot Springs); an adopted daughter, Natalie Kenmille (Ronan); step-daughters Vienna Nicolai and Geri Nicolai; sisters Sarah Buffton (Big Arm), Amelia Clairmont (Ronan), Ruby Burke and Joe Finley (Wellpinit), SuSan and her husband, Joe Dowdall (Polson), Mary "Pooyah" Lefthand (Pablo), and Dianna Andrews (Ronan); and brothers and their wives, Vic and Mary Lefthand (Elmo), August and Aggie Lefthand (Polson), Basil and Este Lefthand Jr. (Niarada) and Nick Lefthand (Niarada); four grandchildren, Zac Nicolai (Georgia), Brandee Nicolai (Hawaii), Nick Nicholai (Plummer, ID) and Lida Nicholai (Spokane); six great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. Wake services were conducted at the family home and at the Elmo Hall. Mass was celebrated on Sept. 10 the Elmo Hall. Burial followed at the Dayton Cemetery.
LEROY W. MANNING JR.
HOT SPRINGS -- LeRoy W. Manning Jr. died on Sept. 3, 2004. He was born on June 24, 1944, in Missoula, to LeRoy Sr. and Anne (Sorrell) Manning. He attended the Villa Ursuline School in Mission and Hot Springs High School, where he graduated in 1964. After high school graduation, he married Anne Sandvig. He worked in the forest, working for the Tribes and the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a scaler until his retirement. He was also an avid hunter and exceptional cribbage player. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Rita, Louise, Betty and Judy; brothers Bernard and Ernie Pluff; and great-grandson Pharroh McGraw. LeRoy is survived by his wife of four decades, Anne; his children and their spouses, LeAnn "Bubbles" Manning, Bill (Jean) Manning, Jennifer (Bob) Mitchell and David (Shirley) Manning; sisters Lillian Brown and Leona Harries; brothers Ed Pluff, Cecil Pluff and Dale Manning; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. A wake was conducted at the Foster & Durgeloh Funeral Home in St. Ignatius. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Sept. 7 in the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission. Interment followed at the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.
LOUIS MARSHALL
POLSON -- Louis Walter Marshall died from emphysema on Sept. 16, 2004, at Evergreen Health & Rehabilitation Center here. He was born on Feb. 9, 1923, in Caraway, Ark., to Earl Lee and Estella (Vest) Marshall. When he was four years old he and his siblings went to live with their grandparents, Roger and Claudia Marshall. Lou went to school in Lake City, Ark., until the fifth grade. He then worked on farms picking cotton, corn and soybeans. Later he got into logging and cutting timber. He was drafted into the Army and served for three years. He then worked in a glass factory in Ohio. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served six years. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. After the service, he moved with his family to Missoula, where he owned a barber shop. He retired from barbering in November 1988. He married Claudia Duncan on Feb. 14, 1990, in Las Vegas. In August 1990 they moved to Polson. Lou and Claudia loved traveling and camping. They were members of the Flathead Lake Good Sams. Lou is survived by his wife; his children, Linda Lou (Chimacum, WA), Ron Duncan and wife Julie, and Doug Duncan and wife Kelly (all of Polson), and Clifford Duncan and wife Debbie (Missoula); 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Henry D. (Belton, SC.) Oma Simpson (Newark, OH), James D. (Coldwater, MI), and Ruby Brinar (Albany, OR). Funeral services were conducted on Sept. 20 at the Polson Community Church. Burial with military honors followed at Lakeview Cemetery.
MONA MEYER
HOT SPRINGS -- Mona Meyer died on Sept. 8, 2004, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula of natural causes. She was born in Kellogg, ID, on July 9, 1931, to Ed and Lorna Meyer. She loved to crochet and sold the baby dresses, doilies, angels, potholders and crafts she made. She also enjoyed camping, picking huckleberries, canning and spending time at her Hot Springs home with her husband, Bob. While living in Missoula, Mona was employed at Sprouse Reitz from the day the store opened until the day it closed. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Eddie. She is survived by her husband, Bob; her children from her marriage to Gerald Holley, Steven Holley (Parshall, CO), Dale and Patty Holley (Klawock, AK), and Louise and Joe Rock (Frenchtown); eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held on Sept. 12 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Missoula.
WYATT PARTIDA
RONAN -- Wyatt D. Partida, 10, died of cancer at his home here on Sept. 20, 2004. He was born on Sept. 18, 1994, in Ronan, to Daniel J. Partida and Mary J. Burland. He attended school in Ronan, and had been in the fifth grade. He had great expectations of being a boxer and a football player. Wyatt's greatest love was the go-cart that he received on his last birthday. He had started to gift his belongings to friends and family but the one he couldn't give away was the key to his go-cart. Wyatt was also a great Sponge Bob fan. He is survived by his parents; siblings Wes Miljies (Ronan), Wayne Burland, Jolene Burland, Will Burland and Wade Burland (all of Ronan) and Marliza Sanchez (Wash.). Memorials may be made to the Montana Hope Project or the Ronald McDonald charities. A memorial service was held on Sept. 24 in Polson. Cremation has taken place.
THELMA M. PIERCE
MISSOULA -- Thelma M. Pierce died on Sept. 2, 2004, at Hillside Manor Nursing Home here of natural causes. She was born on July 4, 1913, in Ronan to Andrew and Caroline (Lazott) Petticrew. She was raised and educated in Ronan. On Nov. 16, 1932, she married Raymond Pierce in Kalispell. Thelma enjoyed spending time with her family, and did beautiful stitching and crocheting. Survivors include her daughters, Jackie Krahn and Thelma "Babe" Stuart (both of Missoula), Sylvia Rowan (Carson City, NV); a son, Raymond "Bud" Pierce (Reno, NV); 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, two great granddaughters and three brothers. A memorial service will be held at a later date, and her cremains will be interred with her parents' in the Ronan Cemetery.
ARTHUR REUM
POLSON -- Arthur Duane "Sarge" Reum, 59, died on Sept. 20, 2004, at St. Luke Hospital in Ronan from natural causes. He was born on Jan. 11, 1945, in Hayes, Kansas. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Reum (Polson); children Scott and Colleen; two grandsons; brothers Steve Reum (Ronan), Ronnie Reum (Polson), Fred Reum (Calif.) and Doug Reum (Polson); and sisters Frances Amaya (Polson) and Velva "Honey" Hall (Missoula). Funeral services were conducted on Sept. 24 in Polson, with burial and military honors following at Lakeview Cemetery.
WILMER SILVIS
POLSON -- Wilmer Howard Silvis, 90, died on Sept. 12, 2004, at the Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center here. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Troy Goldston; parents; four sisters; and one brother. Survivors include his wife, Ann (Polson); three children and their spouses, David and Carolyn (Fort Wayne, IN), Miriam and Arlen Wisseman (Polson) and Cathy Goldston (Polson and Bluffton, IN); nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A funeral service was held on Sept. 16 at the First Baptist Church, followed by private interment at Lakeview Cemetery.
SHANA TEMPERO
CAMAS PRAIRIE -- Shana Mikayla Tempero, 6, drowned on Sept. 5, 2004. She was born on Oct. 2, 1997, in Polson, the daughter of Mike Tempero and Julie Heath. She was diagnosed at four days of age with a rare condition known as galactosemia, which affected her diet and contributed to her small size. She also had speech difficulties and spent many hours working with therapists. Shana was a quick-witted and friendly girl, who always loved to be around people. She especially took an interest in visiting with the elderly at care centers. She enjoyed creating works of art, and playing with Barbie dolls and computers. She also liked to spend time with her special friends, Lex Baker and Faith Larson, and her pets. She is survived by her parents, Julie Heath (Evan Melton) of Camas Prairie and Mike Tempero (Earnie Gabhart) of Hot Springs; her grandparents, Lee and Vicky Heath (Camas Prairie) and Manford and Marvel Tempero (Hot Springs); two brothers, Tom and Bob Magera (Hot Springs); two sisters, Pam Magera and Shawna Tempero; aunts and uncles, Pam and John Reynolds, Patti and Casey Austin (Butte), Paula Tempero (Polson), Jennie and Glenn Jorgensen (Valley View), and Casey and Carol Heath (Camas Prairie). Funeral services were conducted on Sept. 10 at the Lonepine Community Hall. Burial followed at Lonepine Cemetery.
