ILENE FRASER
RONAN -- Ilene Beatrice Fraser, 76, died on Nov. 4, 2004, at her home here. Ilene was the eldest daughter of Elsie and Martin Schiele. She graduated from Ronan High School in 1947 and married Stewart D. Fraser on Sept. 27, 1947. They made their home east of Ronan, where they raised mink and were also in the grocery business for 26 years. Ilene was a talented artist and an avid gardener and loved fishing and hunting. Ilene is survived by her husband of 57 years, Stewart D. Fraser; children and their spouses Susan J. and Frenchy Piedalue (Ronan), Cheryl D. Fraser (Clancy), Linda L. and Mike Roberts (Ronan), Kathleen A. and Corey Richwine (Ronan), and Stewart Gregory Fraser (San Miguel de Allende, Mexico); nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters; and seven brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother. Funeral services were held on Nov. 9 in Ronan. Interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery. Memorials be made to the Lake County Hospice.

LETTIE GILBERT
ST. IGNATIUS -- Lettie Kent Pierce Gilbert died on Nov. 4, 2004, at St. Luke Hospital in Ronan. She was born on June 10, 1916 in Naf, Idaho, to Anne and Samuel Kent. Lettie grew up in Charlo, where she attended school and was active in music, sports and community life. She married Nate Pierce in 1934, and they purchased property near Hillside. For a period of time the family lived at Fort Missoula, where Nate worked for the U.S. Immigration service. When Nate was called to serve in WWII, Lettie moved back to St. Ignatius, where worked for the Ursuline Sisters as a cook, teacher and basketball coach, and in the Ground Observers Corps. After the war, the couple established Mission Electric and continued to farm. After Natešs death in 1971, Lettie went to work at the Holy Family Hospital as a cook. In 1974, she married Paul Gilbert, and the couple spent much of their time in California. Paul died in 1985. At the age of 77, Lettie put the Mission Valley Food Pantry back in service. In 1994, she was named Montana Senior Citizen of the Year. She was an avid traveller. She was preceded in death by her husbands; and her brothers, Douglas Kent, Robert Kent, Talbot Kent, and Parley Kent. She is survived by two sisters, Verna Krantz (St. Ignatius) and Veda Johnson (Charlo); one brother, Harold Kent (Charlo); seven children and their spouses, Loa and Bruce Carpenter (Sheridan, WY), Leonard and Connie Pierce (St. Ignatius), Naett Sharp (St. Ignatius), Jack and Susie Pierce (Calif.), Nathan and Kathy Pierce (Deer Lodge), Brenda and Gerry Lynch (Spokane), and Valerie and Michael Umphrey (St. Ignatius; three step-children and their spouses, Paul Gilbert Jr., Kathy and Roy Hansen, and Phil and Lorretta Gilbert; 44 grandchildren; 111 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; as well as well nieces and nephews. Services were held on Nov. 9 at the LDS church in St. Ignatius.

MONTANA GIPE
SEATTLE -- Montana Gipe, formerly of Polson, died here on Nov. 8, 2004, from natural causes. Cremation has taken place. Graveside inurnment services were conducted on Nov. 22 at the Lakeview Cemetery in Polson.

RUSSELL GRANT
POLSON -- Russell Erwin Grant, 95, of Polson, died on Nov. 16, 2004, at Community Medical Center in Missoula of natural causes. He was born on June 10, 1909, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Jesse and Lutie (Bemuss) Grant. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Laura Grant. He is survived by his wife, Lillian; children Karen Tucker, Tami Hart, Richard Grant, Donald Grant and Todd Grant; two sisters, Eldina Buck and Geraldine Guinn; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on June 10, 2005, at Lakeview Cemetery. The time will be determined later.

'HAPPY' LANIER
DAYTON -- Velva J. "Happy" Lanier died on Nov. 15, 2004, in Kalispell. She was born in Huntley on May 19, 1915, to Grace and Oliver Johnson. Although her given name was "Velva," she was known as "Happy" her entire life. She graduated from high school in Billings. She married George Lanier on Valentine's Day in 1934 in Billings Because of her husband's work, the family lived in several places, almost all in Montana. Happy was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1960; her son, Gene, and his wife Mary; her son, Roy; and her grandson, Michael Lanier. She is survived by her sons and their wives, Gary and Cindy, and Keith and Sue (all of Dayton), Lloyd and Liz (Freedom, CA), and Hal and Vicka (Billings); her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Lanier (Ramsey, MN); 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; her sister, Emma Lanier (Vancouver, WA); her brother, Allen Johnson (Billings); and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were conducted on Nov. 26 at the Lakeview Cemetery in Polson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Lake County Hospice and Private Care, 711 Main St. S.W., Ronan, MT 59864.

EARLENE LOVINGER
POLSON -- Earlene E. Lovinger, 89, died on Nov. 4, 2004, at St. Joseph Hospital here of natural causes. She was born on Oct. 26, 1915, to Edgar and Pearl (Steele) Hopkins in Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and son George. Earlene is survived by son Jerry Sanders (Madison, WI); brother Edgar Hopkins (Corvallis); half-sister Phyllis Sandau (Missoula); half-brother Jeanne Sticht (Mesa, AZ); two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Services were conducted on Nov. 20 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Ronan. Burial took place at the Missoula Cemetery.

LYLE D. LULOW
POLSON -- Lyle D. (Dalrymple) Lulow, 91, of Polson, died on Nov. 5, 2004, at St. Luke Extended Care Facility in Ronan. She was born on Sept. 24, 1913, to George and Mable Dalrymple in Spade, Neb. She fulfilled her dream of becoming a teacher after graduating from high school in 1930. On Nov. 15, 1939, she married Howard N. Lulow. The couple farmed for a living. They sold their Nebraska farm in 1948 and moved to Montana to a farm in Valley View near Polson. Lyle was an excellent cook and gracious hostess. Howard and Lyle enjoyed more than 54 years together until his passing in April 1994. Lyle then sold her place and moved to Polson. Declining health required her to move to the St. Luke Extended Care Facility in Ronan on 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; sisters Louise and Claire; brother Bruce; and two infant grandsons. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jacquin Simurdak (Lolo), James and Vicki (West Seattle), Robert and Sherry (Ronan), Harvey and Debra (Clancy), and George and Joan (Salem, OR); 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; her sister, Maude (Walla Walla, WA); three brothers and their spouses, Norman and Emily (Elk Grove, CA), Robert and Ruth (Apache Junction, AZ), and Winfred and Mary (Grayland, WA). Funeral services were held on Nov. 13 in Polson. Interment followed at Lakeview Cemetery. Memorials be made to the Valley View School Library Fund, in care of Valley View School District No. 35, 7000 Valley View Road, Polson, MT 59860.

ROSE ANN MCLEOD
RONAN -- Rose Ann McLeod, 69, died on Nov. 15, 2004. She was born at home Oct. 5, 1935, in Wagner, S.D., one of 10 children born to Aaron and Mary Palmer. The family moved in 1946 to Ronan, where they started a farm. Rose married Louis E. McLeod Sr. They later divorced. Rose loved reading and being outdoors, camping and traveling, but most of all, the love of her life were her grandchildren. Not only did she raise her own biological children, but her children's friends, as well, called her Mom or Grandma. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Arnold Palmer; two infant sons; two grandsons, Amos Albert Eugene McLeod and Daniel Ray McLeod; an unofficial adopted grandson William "B.J." Gardipe; two sisters, Laura Cook and Lucy Arlint; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Rose is survived by her children, grandchildren and their spouses: Sylvia Aims Back and Marvin Gardipe (both of Charlo), Sarah McLeod (Libby); Shirley and John Gohl, and Albert E. McLeod (all of Ronan), Fred and Carol McLeod (St. Ignatius), Louis E. McLeod Jr. and Geri Lehman (Charlo) and Melissa McLeod and Harry Beauchamp (Wolf Point). She is also survived by an unofficial adopted daughter and her husband, Joanne and Ben Asencio (Pablo); an unofficial adopted son, Chris Carpentier (Pablo): 14 grandchildren: Jacqueline Aims Back, Russell Burland, LaQuita Aims Back, Donald McLeod, Jason Gohl, Karen Gohl, Samantha Gohl, Justin Gohl, and Milagra McLeod (all of Ronan), Nakota Aims Back and April McLeod (both of Charlo), Amos McLeod (Pablo), and Harry Beauchamp III, Cherish Rose Beauchamp, Dennis Beauchamp (all of Wolf Point); three great grandchildren, Levi Burland, Aaron Burland and Kyra Aims Back (all of Ronan); five sisters, Helen, and husband, Frank Cole (Missoula), Loretta Emmingham (Orem, UT), Jeanette Kuntz (Polson), Betty Kuntz (Ronan) and Barbara and Bob Burrell (Ronan); one brother, Charles Palmer (Henderson, CO); and all of her numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The wake began on Nov. 19 at the Foster and Durgeloh Funeral Home and concluded at the Longhouse on Nov. 22. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Nov. 22 at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Interment followed at the Ronan Cemetery.

LINDA MICHEL
MISSOULA -- Linda Rae Michel, 43, of Ronan, died Nov. 21, 2004, at St. Patrick Hospital here from natural causes. She was born on Feb. 28, 1961, in Polson to Matt Buckskin Michel and Lucy Moody Michel. Linda grew up in Dayton and attended school in Dayton and Busby. A full-blooded member of the Conf. Salish and Kootenai Tribes, she was employed as general managing bookkeeper for the Kootenai Culture Committee. She enjoyed putting on family gatherings and dinners, attending powwows, spending time with children, being with her numerous friends and shopping (which was her all-time favorite activity). She was preceded in death by her child, Leo Michel Hammer; her mother; brother Mathias Michel Jr.; nephew Mathias Michel III; and her best friend, Girl Tony Mathias. he is survived by her father and step-mother, Mathias "Matt" Michel Buckskin and Louise (Niarada); brothers and their wives Wilbert and Beverly (Polson), Gilbert and Dora (Elmo), Victor and Linnea (Lindenhurst, IL), Leonard and Melissa (Ronan), Keith and Maxine (Ronan), and Lee (Polson); two sisters, Geneva, and her husband, Ronnie (Busby) and Diane (Dayton); and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Traditional wake services and rosary were held on Nov. 22 at the Elmo Hall. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Nov. 23 at the Elmo Hall. Burial followed at Dayton Cemetery.

ANN SILVIS
POLSON -- Ann Muir Silvis died at her home here on Nov. 2, 2004, from natural causes. She was born on April 7, 1918, in Cadogan, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilmer, on Sept. 12; three sisters; one brother; a son-in-law, John Goldston; grandson, Troy Goldston; and a great-granddaughter. She is survived by a son, David Silvis, and his wife, Carolyn (Fort Wayne, IN); daughters Miriam Wisserman and husband Arlen (Polson) and Cathy Goldston (Polson and Bluffton, IN); nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted on Nov. 6 in Polson. Private family interment followed at Lakeview Cemetery.
