WARREN JACOBSON
ST. IGNATIUS -- Warren Lynn Jacobson died suddenly on April 10, 2004, doing what he loved -- helping others. He was born Sept. 4, 1925, in Clitherall, MN, to James and Sophie Jacobson. He moved to St. Ignatius in 1937 where he attended school, graduating in 1943. After graduation, Warren enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After returning to St. Ignatius in 1946 he served in the Army Reserve until 1953. He married Ruth Ann Posivio on April 8, 1948. She died in 1954. He married Marie Kondelik on Dec. 27, 1955. Warren retired in 1984 after working 34 years for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a warehouse manager. After retirement he became a full-time fisherman and doer of good deeds. Among other activities, he was involved with the American Legion, Cemetery Board, Old Town Development Corp., Food Pantry, Senior Citizen's Center and the Catholic Church. He was voted Senior Citizen of the Year in 1997. In addition to Ruth Ann, he was preceded in death by their son, Rick, in 1976; wife Marie in 1979; son Tim in 1985; three brothers, Ross, Lyle and Ellmore Jacobson; and two sisters, Lenore Peterson and Frances Cote. He is survived by son Mike (Great Falls); daughter Sue Bren and husband Randy (Williston, ND); three grandchildren; a great-grandson; and sister Lillian Strong and her husband, Bob (Polson). Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on April 16 at the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission. Interment followed at the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery where military honors were presented.

ESTHER KENDALL
ST. IGNATIUS -- Esther Kendall, 83, of Dixon, died April 16, 2004, at Hillside Manor in Missoula. She was born on July 18, 1920, in Golden Valley, N.D. She was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Darl Deering of Golden Valley after her mother died in childbirth. She attended school in both North and South Dakota. She had seven siblings: Otto, Art, Julius, Bertha, Agnes, Hilda and Martha. Esther moved to Missoula and went to beauty school. She had a beauty shop in her home there. When she retired, she and her husband, Frank, moved to Dixon where they enjoyed fishing, traveling and playing pinochle and visiting at the Dixon Senior Center. They were honored at the Dixon Melon Day Parade as Grand Marshals in 2002. Her daughter, Martha, survives her in Phoenix, AZ. The rest preceded in death. She is also survived by two sons, Russel Dietz (Missoula) and Virgal (Cedar Rapids, ND); three other daughters, Colleen Anderson (Missoula), Lorie Johnson (Missoula) and Valerie and husband Tim Hiday (Polson); and two step-children, Carolyn Nash (Hollingdale, FL) and Lewis Kendall (San Francisco). Memorial services were held May 22 at the Dixon Senior Center.

LARRY RAY KNAPP
ST. IGNATIUS -- Larry Ray Knapp died on April 9, 2004, in Tahiti. He was a retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander and naval aviator. He was an accomplished test pilot and survived more than 23 emergency landings. He also set first-time records for high-altitude helicopter rescues. He received a BS degree from the Univ. of Utah in meteorology, with a minor in zoology. In retirement he undertook advanced studies in psychology at the Univ. of Montana. He was an accomplished diver, worldwide sailor, navigator, dog breeder, commercial fisherman, avid horse lover, expert marksman and national archery champion. He traveled thousands of miles on motorcycles throughout the USA and in foreign countries. In his retirement years he developed and ran the Mandorla Ranch as a successful bed and breakfast. Ray and his wife also worked on many international tourism projects and missions. He was predeceased by his father, Hal Knapp. He is survived by his wife, Mara DelliPriscoli (St Ignatius); his mother, Joy Matheson; sons Douglas and Stephen; and sisters Lorrayne and Cheryl (all residents of Washington); and sister Sandy (CA). A memorial service was held on April 15 at the Mandorla Ranch B&B in St. Ignatius.

LINDA KOCHSIEK
BIG ARM -- Linda Jean (Hower) Kochsiek died at her home here on April 14, 2004, from natural causes. She was born March 12, 1947, in Blackduck, MN, to Robert and Eunice Braezeal Hower. She graduated from Frenchtown High School in 1966. Linda married Roy Kochsiek in St. Paul, Minn., in 1982. She was very passionate about gardening, camping and family gatherings. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers David and Bobby. She is survived by her husband; a son and his wife, Michael and Linda McDonald (Missoula); daughter Kimberly McDonald (Waco, TX); stepdaughter Kristine Elvrum (Minneapolis); sisters and their spouses: Bonnie and Roy Jarvis (Plains), Patsy and Mike Rolfing (Missoula), Janet and Kevin Smith (Kalispell), Elaine and Roger Fraley (Frenchtown), Pamela and Dan Hammontree (Yakima), and Brenda Anderson (Missoula); three brothers: Lonny Hower, and his wife, Ardella (Missoula), John Hower (Missoula) and Bill Hower (Kalispell); six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held on April 17 in Big Arm.

KENNETH LILLEY
ARLEE -- Kenneth Warren "Lil Nigg" Lilley died on April 25, 2004, from injuries received in an auto accident near here. He was born on Feb. 22, 1985, in St. Ignatius. He attended Turlock Elem. School in Calif. and Pascal Sherman Indian School in Omak, WA, before graduating from Two Eagle River School in Pablo in 2003. He achieved a "student of the year" award as well as an athletic letter for being on the TERS basketball team. He then moved on to fight wildfires in the summer of 2003. Kenny loved to play ball and "kick it" with his homies. He was preceded in death by his Grandpa John Charlo, sister Summer Rose Lilley and Grandpa Joseph Lilley. Survivors include his mother Sissie Charlo­Plante and stepfather Francis Plante; father Perry Lilley; grandmas Virginia Charlo and Rose Lilley; brothers Wes Charlo, Chauncey Whitwright, Perry Lilley Jr, Ticho Cortinas and Lazaro Cortinas; sisters Sunny Charlo, Kao Charlo, Jessica Perez and Amy Plante; uncles Mike Charlo, Louis (Cindy) Charlo and Charlie (Zelda) Charlo; aunties Tiny Charlo, Francine (Joe) Dupuis, Wahneta Charlo-O'Dell and Charelot Charlo; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Traditional wake services began on April 26 at the Arlee Community Center. Mass was celebrated on April 29 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Arlee.

EMMA W. MAAS
ELMO -- Emma W. Maas died on April 24, 2004, in Pablo from natural causes. She was born on Jan. 20, 1918, in Kalispell to Frederick and Elsie Jahnke Marquardt. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lester and three brothers. She is survived by her sons and their spouses, Larry L. and Nita Marie Maas (Auburn, WA), Gary and Walene Maas (Pablo), Lynn and Jeanne Maas (Los Alamos, NM), and Wynne and Jeannene Maas (Helena); 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

PAULINE OWENS
POLSON -- Pauline Lois Owens died on April 29, 2004, at St. Joseph Hospital here. She was born on Sept. 17, 1929, in Harlowton to Earl and Angeline Burrows. Pauline was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Montecato Club. She sang in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church choir and played in a "kitchen band" that visited senior centers around the area. She crocheted tablecloths, stitched many baby sweaters and grew roses. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Earl and Ernie, sister Harriett, and her first husband Harold Edward Rector. She is survived by her husband, John Owens (Polson); her three children, Arlene McEnaney and husband Maurice (Gilbert, AZ), Joyce Wretling and husband Ed (Polson), and Tim Rector and wife Danette (Missoula); three sisters, Margarete Thompson, Blanche Nilsen and Cora Waid (all of Harlowton); three brothers, Edward Burrows (Billings), Robert Burrows (Pullayup, WA), and James Burrows (Harlowton); eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial service was conducted on May 3 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Polson.

ROBERT TODD
CHARLO -- Robert Linsey "Bob" Todd died here on April 28, 2004. He was born on Dec. 19, 1909, in Bozeman to Robert and Elizabeth Todd. Bob was an avid hunter, fisherman and rancher. He operated a ranch in the Three Mile area of Stevensville for many years. He married Valma Baker on Dec. 29, 1953, in Reno, Nev. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Valma; three children, Bert and his wife, Cookie (Charlo), Dan (Divide, CO), and Diana Dallas (Kalispell); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many relatives from the Bozeman and Big Timber area. Services were conducted on May 2 in Stevensville.

DEAN WALL
POLSON -- Dean Allan Wall died at his home here on April 7, 2004. He was born on June 15, 1932 in Polson, to Samuel Wall and Juanita (DuPuis) Wall. He later moved to Tacoma, WA, where he attended school until graduating in 1950. He married Kay Mann on Dec. 30, 1954. He retired after 31 years of service with Western Electric Company and returned to Polson to run a small cattle operation. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed playing basketball and baseball, water skiing, hunting with his sons, horseback riding and fishing. He was an all-around sports fan, too. He was a proud member of the Salish and Kootenai Tribes, a fourth-degree Knights of Columbus, and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He worked on the tribal election committee, Cursillo journeys and the Crooked Bow Beef Assoc. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard and Samuel, and sister Juanita Clairmont. He is survived by his wife in Polson; three children and their spouses: Richard and Beth Wall, Patrick Wall, and Kathleen and Donald Gould (all of Puyallup, WA); six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; brothers Terrance and David (Polson); sister Barbara Hulsey (Puyallup); and nieces, nephews and cousins. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on April 12 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial took place at the Lakeview Cemetery in Polson.

PATRICK WHITE
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Patrick Marcel White died here on April 4, 2004, as a result of an automobile accident. He was born on Jan. 27, 1986, to Marcella Curley and Otto Lee White in Hayward, CA. He was raised in Brookfield and attended Brookfield Elem. School, Madison Middle School, Castlemont High School, the Emiliano Zapata Street Academy and Massaponnaz High School in Spotsylvania, VA. Patrick had a strong cultural base coming from two strong nations that united to create him: African and Native American. He was a member of the Conf. Salish and Kootenai Tribes. He is survived by his parents; brothers Phillip White (Oakland), Russell Parker Jr. (Woodford, VA), Lemarr Curley (Polson); a sister, CaSaundrea Parker (Ashland, VA); one niece, and three nephews; grandmother Jeanetta White (Texas); four aunts: Tessie Curley, Brenda (Virgil) Braverock, Bonita (Charles) Prince and Edith Readis; three uncles, Ed Curley, Joe White and Willis Prentiss; and a host of cousins and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Alice Marie Curley, and two grandfathers, Gilbert Alexander and O.C. Blackwell. Wake and funeral services were conducted in Elmo. Burial followed at the Elmo Cemetery.
