KATHERINE HUNTLEY
RONAN -- Katherine Huntley, 94, formerly of Polson, died at the St. Luke Extended Care Facility here on March 21, 2004. She was born in Philipsburg to Nellie Maude Hanna and John Hector "Jim" Grant. The family later homesteaded northwest of Elmo, where she was schooled. She completed the eighth grade in Butte, then worked as a milker. She returned to Elmo, where she worked in a hotel. She married Harry Bruce Huntley Sr. on Jan. 22, 1929. They lived in Butte, Big Arm and Elmo. She was a school clerk, a cook and a waitress. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles and hike. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a granddaughter, brother Jim, and a baby brother and sister. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Dorla Jean Scott (Ronan), Dorothy Irene and Harry Fishel (Washougal, WA), Jasper (Victoria, TX), Harry Bruce Jr. and Sharon (Columbia Falls), John Jay and Caroline (Nevada), Nathan Lee (Polson), Howard Ray and Rosie (Falling Waters, WV), and George William and Sandy (Polson); 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; five stepchildren; one nephew; and four nieces. A memorial service was held on March 27 in Polson.
LISE' JAMES
ST. IGNATIUS --Lise' James died of a rare, incurable cancer on March 30, 2004. She was born June 9, 1963; received her B.A. of fine arts from the Univ. of Montana in 1991; and married Rande Hall on Sept. 27, 1997. She was a partner and PR representative for her family's publishing business. At her request there will be no funeral and cremation has taken place. She is survived by her husband; her parents, Charlie and Katie James; her brother Mark James; a sister of the heart, Jennifer Davis; a niece, Kayla Lynch; aunts and uncles Jim and Connie James, Harriet Christiansen, Dorothy Brown, Charlene Sullivan, Doris and Herb Hollenbeck, Darrold and Darlene Morrison, and Delmar and Concha Morrison; and numerous cousins. Her family requests that any memorials in her honor be directed in her name to Wings (a cancer support program that helped with her travel expenses) at Wings/Jennifer Schaeffer, 310 Sunny View Lane, Kalispell, MT 59901; Lake County Home Health/Hospice, 406/676-7300; or At Home Solutions, 406/752-4545. On June 12, there will be a public exhibition of her art and a celebration of her life and talent at the Wild Plum Station in Dixon.
HELEN JOHNSTON
MISSOULA -- Helen Bernice Johnston, 91, died of natural causes on March 10, 2004, in Missoula. She was born Jan. 30, 1913, in Demersville to Oscar and Harriett Engle. She attended Ridgeway and Charlo schools. On May 4, 1932, she married Gene Johnston in Missoula. They had been married for 67 years before Gene's death in 2000. Gene and Helen ranched in the Valley Creek area at Arlee until moving to Dixon in 1975. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and her husband. She is survived by her six daughters and their spouses: Faye and Dale Howell (Polson), Betty and Jerry Ebel and Joanne and Eugene Hertz (all of Missoula), Beverly Baertsch (Reno, NV), Alice and Jim Coates (Spokane) and Ila Jean Crunkelton (Kennewick, WA); 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild. Cremation has taken place. Graveside memorial services were conducted on March 20 at Mountain View Cemetery in Ronan.
JANIS A. LANCASTER
RONAN -- Janis A. Lancaster, 77, of St. Ignatius, died on March 6, 2004, at St. Luke Community Hospital here after a lengthy illness. She was born Oct. 12, 1926, in West Palm Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbur B. Harper; her husband, Arthur Lancaster; and her brother, Nelson Moehle. She is survived by her mother, Mary L. Crow (Ronan); sister Judith Moehle (St. Ignatius); brothers Terry Moehle (Gold Hill, OR) and Mark Moehle (Eugene, OR); stepdaughters Virginia Dubas (Northeast, MD) and Karen Sexton (Panama City, FL); four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was a member of the St. Ignatius United Methodist Church. No services are planned, at her request. Cremation has taken place. Memorials are requested to the St. Ignatius Methodist Church or the Ronan City Library.
COLLEEN LIRA
RONAN -- Colleen Ann Lira, 53, died on March 25, 2004, at St. Luke Community Hospital here following a long illness. Graveside services were held on March 30 at the Calvary Cemetery in Ronan.
HARRY MILLER
POLSON -- Harry Lloyd Miller, 94, died of natural causes on March 6, 2004, at St. Joseph Hospital here. He was born on Nov. 9, 1909, to Don L. and Julia Wood Miller in Perry, KS. He graduated from Stevensville High School. At age 16 he received a two-year scholarship to the Univ. of Montana, where he earned a B.S. in chemistry. He worked in Washington, D.C., as a laboratory assistant and was one of the original students in the U.S. Air Force cadet flight training program. He was also an electrical engineer. Lloyd was also affiliated with Bell Telephone Laboratories as a designing engineer and has several electronic patents to his credit. Lloyd and his wife, Josephine, arrived in Polson from Maryland on July 4, 1981. Several years ago at the age of 90, he acquired his first computer. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Earl L. Miller and brothers Lewis, Junius and John. He is survived by his wife Josephine "Jo" Miller and several nephews. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Private inurnment of his cremains will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Stevensville.
JUNE R. MONCURE
MISSOULA -- June R. Moncure, 85, died on March 24, 2004, at Community Medical Center here of a heart attack. She was born June 7, 1918, in Polson to David E. and Oliva (Jette) Pronovost. She married W. Peyton Moncure in 1938. He preceded her in death in 1987. She is survived by her daughters, Pat Moncure, Dee Peterson and husband Pete, and Victoria Abrams (all of Missoula), and Joan Moncure (Idaho); her sister, Theresa Ferrell (Seabrook, TX); her brother, Joe Provonost (Billings); seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services were conducted on March 30 at the Montana Cremation and Memorial Society. Cremation has taken place.
CARL MORIGEAU
ARLEE -- Carl Lloyd Morigeau lost his battle to cancer on March 30, 2004. He was Bitterroot Salish and an enrolled member of the Conf. Salish and Kootenai Tribes. He was born on Aug. 22, 1927, to Octave and Collette (LaMoose) Morigeau. His maternal grandparents were Pierre and Lucy LaMoose and his paternal grandparents were Alex and Rosalie Morigeau. He had six brothers and six sisters: Paul, Joe "Uncle Bud," Alex, Evelyn Grenier, Josephine Steele, Alice Gardipe, Dorothy Shelby, Olive Burland and Sis "Zelda." Raised as a brother with Carl was his nephew, Francis "Frenchy" Burland. Carl was raised in Arlee on the Morigeau Ranch. He finished the eighth grade in Arlee and then went to work on a ranch in the Bitterroot. Sonny, as he was known back then by his family, joined the Navy at the age of 17. He later returned home and worked at the smelters in Anaconda and Kellogg, Idaho. He married Irene Dumont in 1953; they later moved to Missoula, where he became a union worker and carried hod. The couple later moved to Arlee, where they wanted to raise their five children. The couple later divorced. He later married Leila "Lee" Munyan and went to work for the BIA Forestry. After retirement, he spent a good deal of his time checking on his friends who didn't get around as well as he did. He also loved to travel, especially in his motor home with his little dogs; going up the Jocko to camp; reading western books; and going to Hot Springs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lee. He is survived by his children; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sister, Alice "Abby" Gardipe; a special nephew, "Frenchy" Burland; and numerous nieces and other nephews. As per Carl's wishes, he was cremated and a brief memorial service with the Mission Valley Honor Guard was held at the Jocko Church on April 3. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, or made by planting a tree.
CHARLES NEIDT
RONAN -- Charles Jason Neidt, 65, of Ronan, died on March 2, 2004, in Moses Lake, WA, of natural causes.
He was born Dec. 11, 1938, in Dillon to John and Jessie Neidt.
He is survived by his wife, Doris (Ronan); his children, Cindy Buckolz (Belgrade), Jackie Callatine (Sandpoint, ID), Lloyd Geary (Reno, NV), and Theresa Hartung (Pablo); a brother, John Neidt (Missoula); and sisters Nancy Young (Plains) and Rosa Tougas (Ronan).
Funeral services were March 6 at the United Methodist Church. Interment was at Ronan Cemetery.
ELNORA POMAJEVICH
POLSON -- Elnora L. Shupe Pomajevich, 86, died on March 20, 2004, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula. She was born in Carstairs, Alberta, Canada, on Dec. 5, 1917. She lived in Canada for awhile and then moved to the Missoula area with her parents, Harry K. and Elizabeth Shupe. She graduated from Missoula County High School in 1937. She worked as a nurse's aide before marrying Crist R. Pomajevich. The couple farmed in Missoula before moving to Superior in 1951. They lived for a brief time in southern California before moving to Polson. Elnora will be remembered for her love of gardening, cooking and sewing, for supporting her children and grandchildren in school. She also loved playing pinochle, going bowling, and being outdoors. She was a member of the Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, son Ken, her parents, and brothers Merle, Mel, Harry, Dale and Jimmy Shupe. She is survived by her son Crist Pomajevich (Haiti) daughters Pat Jasper (St. Regis) and Roberta DiFranco (Sandpoint); eight grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Funeral services were conducted on March 24 at the First United Methodist Church in Polson. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Missoula. Memorials may be made to Camp Mak-A-Dream or the Mission Valley Animal Shelter.
