ANNE RAYE FINLEY
POLSON -- Anne Raye Finley, 27, died on Feb. 28, 2004, as a result of an automobile crash near here. She was born on Oct. 3, 1976, in Polson. She grew up and attended schools on the Flathead Reservation, including Dixon Elementary, Two Eagle River High School and St. Ignatius High School. She served an apprenticeship with the Local # 1 Ironworkers Union in Chicago and became a journeyman ironworker, continuing to work in Chicago. She moved back to the reservation and was working construction. She is survived by her father, Vernon, and his wife, Elaine Frank; her mom, Irene Lake; mother Vena Swan; sisters Deidre, Mari, Olivia Finley, Sherri Neiss and Renita Powell; brothers Jim Fink, Dean Nicola and Jerome Finley; and grandmother Leona Maughan. Anne had a huge family that consisted of several brothers and sisters. Some are biological and some from her heart, but she loved and looked out for them all. Several names had to be left from the obituary but you know who you are if Anne called you family. Wake services began March 2 in the Elmo Hall. Burial took place at the Dayton Cemetery.
EDWARD FUNK
RONAN -- Edward Joseph "Ed" Funk died at his home here from natural causes on Feb. 27, 2004. Born on Oct. 18, 1934, to Adam and Alma Funk in Bigfork, he joined the National Guard at the age of 17 and graduated from Flathead High School in 1953. He was married to Delores "Dee" Martin. He worked in auto body repair for 30 years, while also working upholstery and other family businesses before retiring in 1996. Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, horseback riding and being in the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leroy. He is survived by his wife, Delores; four children and their spouses, Dixie West (Medical Lake, WA), Kathy and Larry Schiele and James and Kathy Funk (all of Ronan), and Cindi and Eric Hendricks (Polson); eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother Charles Funk (Arlington WA); three aunts; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. A celebration of his life was held on March 8 in Ronan. Cremation was handled by Shrider's Mortuary of Ronan. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in behalf of the Ronan Ambulance Service and Lake County Hospice.
MARIAN GARCIA
ST. IGNATIUS -- Marian Aileen Garcia, 85, of St. Ignatius, died on Feb. 27, 2004, at the Westside Care Center in Ronan of natural causes.
Memorial services were held on March 1 at the First Baptist Church in Polson.
ISABELLE GARDNER
RONAN -- Isabelle True Gardner died on Feb. 22, 2004, at St. Luke Extended Care Facility here of natural causes. She was born Aug. 1, 1914, in Peru, Ind., to Walt and Ethel True. Preceding her in death was her husband, Paul; sisters Helen and Evelyn; brother Joke Stofer; and daughters Ann, Barb and Hope. She is survived by her sons, Bill, Dub and Roy; daughter Faith Eldridge; 18 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren. Services were conducted on Feb. 28 at the Ronan Methodist Church. Interment was at Mountain View Cemetery.
ALOIS GOHL
POLSON -- Alois Joseph Gohl died at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls on Feb. 11, 2004. Preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph and Beata Gohl; wife Mary; son James; and brothers Art and Andrew. Surviving children and spouses are Frances Gohl (Havre), David and Elaine Gohl (Marcellus, MI), Susan and Frank Brown (Polson), John and Shirley Gohl (Ronan), Steven and Kathy Gohl (Advance, NC), Linda and Isaac Carraso (Las Vegas), Teresa Gohl, her friend John Laud and son Ben (all of Charlo), Marlene and Alan Shirley (Las Vegas) and Kristine and Kyle Hardy (Las Vegas). He is also survived by siblings Albine, Adeline, Azela, Avis and Adrain; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several step-grandchildren and "greats." Alois was born in McGrath, MN, on July 5, 1924, and was raised in Bagley, MN. He enlisted in the Army, then returned home to work with his father building doors and window sashes. On June 6, 1953, he married Mary Ott. built A&J Millworks. Alois then went to work at Plum Creek until retirement. Alois enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the VFW and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus of the Catholic Church. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Feb. 17 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Polson. Cremation followed.
PEG GOLLEHON
POLSON -- Mary Margaret "Peg" Gollehon, 54, of Polson, died on Feb. 1, 2004, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.
Mary was born Feb. 27, 1949, in Vancouver, WA, to Robert and Mary Westby.
She is survived by her husband, James Gollehon; son, Matthew Gollehon; daughter, Sandra Grover; numerous grandchildren; and other relatives.
A memorial service was held on Feb. 5 at the Grogan Funeral Home in Polson. Cremation has taken place.
GERALDINE HANKINS
RONAN -- Geraldine Velma Hankins, 89, died at her home here on Feb. 3, 2004.
She was born Jan. 9, 1915, in Gordon, TX, to Marion and Carrie (Wilson) Roberts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, in 1994.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Hankins (Ronan) and three sisters.
Funeral services were held on Feb. 16 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints in Ronan.
Interment followed at Lakeview Cemetery in Polson.
FRED HOULE JR.
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Fredrick Joseph Houle, Jr., 75, of Ronan, died of natural causes here on Feb. 12, 2004. He was born on July 31, 1928, in Ronan, to Fredrick and Hellen Houle. He graduated from Ronan High School in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps that same year. He served during the Korean conflict and the Vietnam war, and retired with the rank of Major in 1967. In 1950 he married Glenna B. Reed and they had five children. After military retirement, he returned to the Flathead Reservation. He has served on the board of directors of Salish Kootenai College, S&K Electronics, Salish Kootenai Housing Authority, Mission Mountain Country Club, and Mission Valley Power, and he remained politically active. He also served as Executive Secretary of the Tribes for 15 years. He married Myrna Smith in 1994 and gained four stepchildren. Fred and Myrna enjoyed retirement living by spending time together in their home in Ronan, the shores of Blue Bay on Flathead Lake and being snowbirds in Yuma, Ariz. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and golf. He is survived by his wife, Myrna; his sisters and their spouses, Lois Dupuis, Allene Cole (John), June Dullaghan, Lora Cole (Jim), Rose Kugler (Ward); his brother, Morris Robert Houle; his five children and their spouses, Theresa Ann Rider, Sally Lynn (Dan) Fend, Joseph Glen (Mary) Houle, Rhoda Lee Folkers, and Thomas Andrew (Donna) Houle; four stepchildren and their spouses, Caralee Lee (Mark), Kelly Crippen (Rob), Connie Starkel, Victor John Starkel II (Paytra); as well as 29 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Feb. 20 at Glacier View Christian School followed by military graveside honors at Mountain View Cemetery in Ronan.
