DUANE BOURDON
POLSON -- Duane Bourdon, 54, died on May 18, 2003, at Community Hospital in Missoula. Born Aug. 14, 1948, in St. Ignatius to Arthur and Susan (Adams) Bourdon, he was raised on the Flathead Reservation. He attended the Ursuline School and Mission High School, where he held several basketball records before his graduation. He then went on to further his education in Albuquerque, NM, becoming a civil engineer and surveyor. Duane worked at sawmills for several years before going to work for various construction crews building local highways. He then went to work for Tribal Health until he was injured. His injury eventually took his leg. A member of the Salish-Kootenai Tribes, he enjoyed the outdoors. He was also an avid sports fan; he enjoyed playing pool, watching his Broncos and wrestling. A member of the Big Belly Racing Team for over 20 years, he also enjoyed Nascar and demos. He was also a member of the Polson Eagles Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his children, Willard and Duane Bourdon, Jr. (Ardmore, OK); Nathan Pierce, Irene, Lindy, Christopher and Tasha Bourdon (Polson); brothers Richard, Art and Calvin and his ex-wife Peggy Pierce; 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Traditional wake services were conducted at the Longhouse in St. Ignatius. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated May 21 in the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission. Interment followed in the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.
LILLIAN 'TINKA' DIPASQUALE
RONAN -- Lillian "Tinka" DiPasquale, 85, died on May 22, 2003. She was born on March 29, 1918, in Tacoma, WA, to George and Anna (Morigeau) Weivoda, and was raised and attended schools in Ronan. Tinka's greatest love in life was her family and she took great pride in being a member of the Salish and Kootenai Tribes. Her joy and excellence of cooking was renowned not only with family and friends but with the many eating establishments in the Flathead area and Whitefish. Most people will remember Tinka for her humor and colorful stories. Survivors include Art and Pat Barber (Rio Rancho, NM), Dale and MaDonna Barber (Yellow Bay), Ralph and Carol Brown (Cornelius, OR), Jacquie Britton (Sacramento, CA), Judie and Pat Bears (Great Falls), Revan and Ron Rogers (Polson), Teri and Cyle Wold (Florence) and Geri Dallman (Florence); her brothers, Wally and Phil Weivoda; 22 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Tinka was preceded in death by her husband, Al. Memorials in Tinka's name can be made to the charity of choice, Shodair Children's Hospital in Helena or the Polson City Library. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on May 28 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ronan. Interment was at Mountain View Cemetery, Ronan.
TRAVIS DOLPHIN
POLSON -- Travis Allyn Dolphin died here on May 25, 2003, of cancer. Travis was born Sept. 3, 1968, in Loveland, CO, to Tim and Barb Dolphin. In January 1977 the family moved to Polson, where Travis entered the second grade. In high school, Travis competed at the state tournaments in both basketball and football. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Good Shepherd Youth Organization. Travis graduated from Polson High School in 1987 and entered Eastern Oregon State in 1988. In 1995 Travis married Charmagne Gauthier in Hawaii. He worked for the Polson Water Dept. for 12 years and became a volunteer firefighter. He also loved fishing, hunting and golf. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Robert Bruce Dolphin and Holt David Pierce, and grandmother Dorethea Pierce Williams. He is survived by his children, Kanyon and Scout Dolphin and their mother Charmagne Dolphin (all of Missoula); his parents; brother Troy Dolphin (Oceanside, CA); and aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service was held on May 27 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Polson. Memorials may be made to the Travis Dolphin Memorial Education Trust Fund, c/o Edward Jones, 302 First St. W., Polson, MT 59860, for the education of Travis' children.
RAYMOND DUNNWEBBER
CHARLO -- Raymond Claire Dunnwebber was born on Sept. 4, 1958, in Great Falls. On May 2, 2003, his final resting place was discovered by a hiker and his dog, ending the search started in May 1999. He was preceded in death by great-grandparents Pete and Myrtle Cornelius and Jesse and Rosa Taber; grandparents Charity Taber of Ronan, Ernest and Hazel Dunnwebber (Carter/Lakeside); and a cousin, Leonard Taber (Evaro). Survivors include his wife, Wanda; stepsons Chris and Jim; daughter Sunny Tucker (Missoula); son Richard Ortiz (Spokane); parents Kenneth and Marian Dunnwebber (Charlo); sister Deborah (Rick) Wickum (Chester); nephew Garrett Wickum; niece Delaney Rae Wickum; grandfather Roy R. Taber (Dayton and Overton, NV); aunts and uncles Evelyn and Harold Tusler (Logandale, NV, and Dayton), Clarence and Jill Taber (Columbia Falls), Eugene and Gladys Dunnwebber (Alberta, Canada), Marvin and Marie Taber (Evaro) and Charles Hiber (OR). A celebration of life will be held in the area of his final resting place this summer at a time to be announced.
REX H. EAGER
POLSON -- Rex H. Eager died at his home here on May 9, 2003. He was born Dec. 11, 1912, in Beaver Crossing, NE, to Lillie and Elmer Eager. In 1915, the family moved to eastern Montana. He completed school in Winnett and married Frances Rose Longpre on May 26, 1937. He and his father became business partners and also went into ranching. He was active in Petroleum Co. affairs, serving on the school board, as mayor of Winnett, and on the board of Mid Rivers Telephone Cooperative. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. In retirement years, Rex and Frances enjoyed traveling. For the last 10 years their home has been in Polson. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Nelle Grass and Louise Ward. Surviving are his wife, Frances; two daughters and their husbands: Betty and Marshall Bjork and Mary and Douglas Wadman; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on May 15 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Polson. Memorial donations may be made to Cheerful Heart, Inc., or Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch.
DEBRA FINLEY
POLSON -- Debra Karen Finley, 50, of Polson, died on May 23, 2003, at Community Medical Center in Missoula. She was born on May 14, 1953, in Spokane to Leonard Joseph and Nancy (Finley) Joseph. Debra attended schools at the Ursulines in St. Ignatius, Spokane, Pierre Indian School and in Chilocco, OK. She married Bill Houck on Aug. 23, 2002. Debra worked for the Kootenai Culture Committee and had illustrated the Kootenai Legends Book. She was a very accomplished artist. She adored her granddaughter. Debra also liked to crotchet and loved the outdoors, especially Elmo and Flathead Lake. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy; a sister, Deanna Joseph; and brothers Dale and Dennis Joseph. She is survived by her husband Bill (Ronan); her father, Leonard (Elmo); four children, Ardena Finley, Raymond Finley and Dustin Seyler (all of Pablo), and Dion Seyler (Idaho); one stepdaughter, Alithea Houck (Polson); one granddaughter, Alyssa Atwin (Pablo); three brothers, Darryl Joseph and Delbert Joseph (Elmo) and Desmond Joseph (Polson); four sisters, Donna Joseph (Elmo) and Dorsette Joseph, Dovita Finley and Delinda Finley (all of Pablo); and numerous other relatives. Traditional wake services started May 24 at Elmo Hall. Mass was celebrated on May 26 in Elmo, with Father Gary Reller officiating. Burial followed at the Dayton Cemetery.
MYHRE HEDRICK
POLSON -- Myhre "Hank" Hedrick, Polson, died on May 4, 2003, at the Lily of the Valley Assisted Living Home in Pablo. He was born on Aug. 31, 1915, in Polson, to Helen and Isaac Hedrick. Hank served during World War II. Upon returning to Montana, Hank, along with his lifelong friend, Clarence Hanualt, farmed several acreages throughout the Polson area until he retired from farming in 1994. He married Florence Nelson in November 1963 in Polson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Theodore "Ted" Isaac, Foster "Hap" and Raymond "Ray" Hedrick; and by his sister, Helen Rebecca Ferguson. He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Marilyn Ramsey; three grandchildren; his sisters, Thelma Eng and Inez Elizabeth Deming; his brother, Ross Floyd Hedrick; a niece and four nephews. Funeral services were conducted May 9 at the Grogan Funeral Home in Polson. Interment followed at Polson's Lakeview Cemetery.
BERTHA HUBER
ARLEE -- Bertha Huber, 90, died at St. Luke Community Hospital in Ronan on May 22, 2003.
Mrs. Huber is survived by her nieces, Lila McGee, Medora Towe, Wyona Malatare and Violet Kuntz; and nephews, Donald Bohnet, Robert Bohnet and Curtis Bierwagen.
Burial will be in Lodi, Calif.
THOMAS MITCHELL
ST. IGNATIUS -- Thomas James Mitchell, 55, died on May 30, 2003, at St. Luke Hospital in Ronan. Tom was born on June 13, 1947, to Harold and Alice Mitchell, the youngest of 10 children. He attended St. Ignatius schools, where he graduated. After graduation, he married Ruth Ly Sloan. Tom served in the Vietnam War, then returned to the Mission Valley to raise his family. He worked in the logging industry until a work injury prevailed. Tom loved being in the mountains either by himself or with friends and family, looking for the elusive elk (which he always found) or the morel mushroom. He was a great hunter and great teacher to his boys and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Wayne, Bob and Alvin; and sister Shirley (who died in infancy). Survivors include his two sons and their families: Tom and Elly and their children Brian, Ashley, Kelsie and Kyla; and Shannon and Wendy and their children Jeremiah, LaGlen and Troy (all of St. Ignatius); his daughter, Tammy (Vancouver, WA); sisters Joyce, Laurie and Mary Lou; brothers Harold Jr. and Leo; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. A wake was conducted at the Longhouse in St. Ignatius. Funeral services with military honors were held on June 2. Cremation followed the services, as Tom wished.
