WILLIAM FROST
IGNACIO, Colo. -- William Scott Howell Frost, 36, died Nov. 28, 2001, at home in Ignacio. Mr. Frost had lived in Arlee for the past six years.
He was born Sept. 5, 1965, in Durango, CO. He graduated from Ignacio High School and was currently attending Salish Kootenai College in Pablo studying environmental science. He enjoyed motorcycles and classic cars, fly fishing, hunting and carpentry.
He is survived by his wife, Maylinn Smith, son William George Frost and daughter Maranda Louise Frost (all of Arlee). Also surviving are his parents, several brothers and sisters and other relatives in Ignacio.
Funeral services were held Dec. 1. Burial followed at the Ouray Memorial Cemetery.
HELEN L. GILLETTE
POLSON -- Helen Lettica Gillette, 89, died on Jan. 27, 2002, of natural causes at St. Joseph Hospital here. She was born Sept. 17, 1912, in Belt to Charles and Ella Weberg. She married John Gillette and moved to the Flathead Valley in 1944, where she taught school until 1978. She moved to Polson and was past president of Professional Business Women, Rebekah Lodge and coordinator of Polson Camp Fire Girls. Survivors include sons Clifford Gillette (Florence, OR) and John Gillette (Helena), and two grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held on Jan. 30 in Polson.
CAREY H. GORDON
POLSON -- Carey H. Gordon, 82, died of natural causes at his home here on May 1, 2002. He was born on his parents' ranch and farm at Reservoir Valley, west of Pablo, to Josephine and Carey Gordon Sr. on Oct. 31, 1919. He attended grade school in Pablo and high school in Ronan, graduating in 1937. He attended the University of Montana for two years and the University of Minnesota, where he received his dental degree in 1943. He was in the Army Medical Corps as a captain during World War II. He established his dental practice in Polson in 1946 and practiced there for 50 years. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and the Polson Elks Lodge for 55 years. He was exalted ruler of the Polson Lodge in 1957. Carey enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf in his younger years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marjorie Davis. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marie (Voss) of Polson; three daughters (and spouses) Gail (Steve) Altman and Julie (Ron) Duncan (all of Polson), and Kathy (Chris) Roberts (Cheney, WA); one sister, Jean Gillette (San Diego); nine grandchildren; and his mother-in-law, Beula Voss (Polson). A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Mission Valley Animal Shelter or to the donor's choice.
LOUIE GOSSELIN
RONAN -- Gene "Louie" Gosselin, 86, died on Nov. 27, 2001, at the Westside Care Center of natural causes. Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated on Nov. 30 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ronan.
DONALD L. GRANZOW
BIG ARM -- Donald L. Granzow, 78, died on Oct. 8, 2001, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula following a long illness. He was born and raised in the Latimer area of Kansas, the son of Grace and Louis Granzow. He is survived by his wife, Wilma; two daughters, Christine (Loren) Kelsey and Jean (Rod) Scheidecker; a son, Robert (Linda) Granzow; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Bill Granzow and family (Herington, KS); and a sister, Helen Schump, and family (Greeley, CO). At Don's request, no services were held.
MARJORIE HAGEN
ARLEE -- Marjorie Mae Hagen, 79, died on Oct. 9, 2001, of natural causes at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Polson. She was born Nov. 27, 1921, at Spirit Lake, Iowa, to Warren and Roberta Thorp. On Nov. 29, 1939, she married James Hagen in Missoula. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter. She is survived by her husband James (Arlee); three sons, Lewis W. Hagen (Livingston), Norman J. Hagen (Great Falls) and Mark N. Hagen (Stevensville); three daughters, Lila Edwards (Las Vegas), Vicki Offerdahl (Kalispell) and Michelle Hagen (Polson); one brother, Don Thorp (Ronan); a sister, Phyllis Clawson (Kelso, Wash.); 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. No services are planned at this time and cremation has taken place. Donations may be made in Marjorie's name to the Lake County Cancer Fund.
LEMUEL HAMMES
POLSON -- Lemuel Vincent Hammes, 82, died on Nov. 28, 2001, of natural causes at St. Luke Extended Care in Ronan. He was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Enid to William and Alice (Beaton) Hammes. He is survived by his wife, Glesnor Hammes (Polson); stepdaughter Nita Randles; stepsons Neil and Deed DeGolier; brother Eugene Hammes (Grass Valley, CA); sisters Mary Mercer (Sidney) and Agnes Sheehan (North Billerica, MS); and eight grandchildren. ass was celebrated Dec. 4 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial followed at the Lakeview Cemetery.
NAOMI HAYES
POLSON -- Naomi Jean Hayes, 69, died on Nov. 29, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital here of cancer. She was born April 11, 1932, in Polson to Walteen and Lena (Smith) Milner. She attended grade school in Valley View and graduated from Polson High School in 1950. She married James Hayes in Coeur d'Alene, ID, on May 12, 1962. Preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Burleen Yexley, she is survived by her husband James (Polson); her children, Cyndy and Jeff Nelson (Polson), Alan and Connie Frislee (Polson), Terry and Phil Lamping (East Helena), Denise and Cliff Willis (St. Louis), Arnie and Michelle Hayes (Bozeman); two brothers, Clao Milner (Polson) and Pastor Merle Milner (Paso Robles, CA); 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Dec. 4. For a memorial the family suggests that a book be purchased for the Polson Middle School library.
DAVID HAYNES
ARLEE -- David "TaPi't" Haynes, 70, died on Nov. 28, 2001, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.
David was born March 31, 1931, in Wellpinit, WA, to John Walter Haynes and Louise David Andrews.
David was married to Sophie Stasso on May 24, 1948. To this union came two sons, five daughters, 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family lived in the Arlee area.
David provided for his family by working outdoors, from logging to carpentry to potato picking.
David enjoyed traveling to powwows, picking huckleberries, hunting and fishing and watching his kids and grandkids play basketball. As Dave got older he spent more time at home listening to the scanner and stick game tapes. He also made the best frybread.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, Patty Haynes and Tom Sam; and a granddaughter, Sophie Pratt.
He leaves behind his wife, Sophie, and one sister, Norma Moses Bates (Wellpinit) and all her children and grandchildren; his children and their spouses: Tom and Gloria Haynes, Erma Haynes and Ty Miller, Phyllis Haynes, Mona Haynes, Sharon Wilson, Fred Haynes and Betty Pratt (all of Arlee); 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wake services were held at the Longhouse in St. Ignatius. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Dec. 1 at the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission. Interment followed in the family cemetery at Arlee.
CAMRON HENDRICKSON
ST. IGNATIUS -- Camron Burll "Woodtick" Hendrickson, 19, died on March 3 as the result of an auto accident near Dublin Gulch.
Camron was born Dec. 17, 1982, in St. Ignatius to Jocko Shane and Shelley Renee (Hawkins) Hendrickson. Raised on the family ranch up Valley Creek she had received her education in Arlee and finished it at SKC in Pablo before going to work for the Decker and Desjarlais law firm of St. Ignatius. All the while, she continued to help her parents, aunts and uncles with their ranching operations.
She was an Indian cowgirl at heart and had been riding horses since she was a little girl. She started rodeoing when she was 10, riding steers then barrel racing when she was 12, with her first horse, Charmin. She later trained her own barrel horse, Many Moons. Camron was free while riding her horses. She had a deep love for animals of any kind. She was a hard worker and when she was called upon was the first to give a helping hand, whether branding calves, pushing horns or rounding up horses, always with a smile. She loved taking rodeo photos, being with her family, her nieces, nephews and cousins.
A descendant of Chief Martin Charlo and Koostahtah, she was a member of the Salish-Kootenai Tribes.
Camron was preceded in death by her grandfather, Jock Thomas Hendrickson; and grandparents William and Marguerite (Charlo) McClure, and Florence and Bud Sivils.
She is survived by her parents (Valley Creek); her brother and sisters Misty and Jared Hendrickson and Aspen Peak and Destiny Rose McPherson; her maternal grandparents Roy (Janice) Couture (Ronan) and Sybil Butler (Magpie Creek) and Joe Butler (Dixon); paternal grandparents Angelic "Dottie" (Jim) Cates (St. Ignatius); great-uncle Bud (Irish) Hendrickson (Arlee); aunts and uncles Todd Couture (Ronan), Ron (Carmel) Couture (Ronan), Shannon (Scott) Maxwell (Lewistown); Joe (Heather) Couture (Ronan), Pam Butler (Dixon), Jody (Sam) Barber (Ronan), Juanita (Brian) Johnston (Ronan), Leslie Butler (Deer Lodge), Crystal Butler (Ronan), Sandy (Don) Dunbar (Hamilton), Valerie (Dave) Thrialkill (Price, Utah), Monte Hendrickson Wilson (Missoula), Terry (Lori) Hendrickson (Three Forks), R.T. (Stephanie) Hendrickson (Arlee), LaMoine (Mike) Baker (St. Ignatius), Cheyenne Hendrickson (Lame Deer), Christa (Brad) Braun (Seattle), and Arles (Doug) Branson, Lynn Hendrickson, Wade (Lisa) Hendrickson (all of St. Ignatius); as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a service of remembrance was held on March 5 in the Longhouse in St. Ignatius.
JERRY W. HENRY
ST. IGNATIUS -- Jerry W. Henry, 51, died on March 9, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital in Ronan. Jerry was born Dec. 3, 1950, in Highland Park, MI, to William and Darlene (Fraser) Henry. Raised and educated in Troy, Mich., he was drafted into the Army immediately after high school. At age 38, he was trapped by his wife, Marie Bourasso. They married in 1987. Preceding him death were his father in 1992 and a sister, Linda, who died in 2001. Survivors include his wife and boys Brandon, Buck and Boone (at the family home in St. Ignatius); his mother, Darlene (Wauchula, FL); his sister, Becky Goetz (Rochester Hills, MI); sister-in-law and brother in-laws Kathy John Campbell (Walpole, NH) and Don Bourasso, Jr. (FL); and nieces Krista, Tricha and Amanda, and nephews Ted and David. Services were held on March 12 in Ronan with military honors. Cremation followed the services. Memorials be made to the Mission/Charlo/Dixon Little Guy Wrestling Assoc., c/o John Matt, St. Ignatius Schools, St. Ignatius, MT 59865.
JOSE M. HERRERA
POLSON -- Jose M. Herrera died shortly after his birth on Dec. 23, 2001, at the St. Joseph Hospital here. He is survived by his parents, Jose Herrera (Sunnyside, WA) and Christina Partida (Polson); grandparents Mary and Dan Partida (Polson) and Mr. and Mrs. Angel Herrera (Sunnyside); an uncle, Jaymz Partida (Polson); four aunts, Marliza, Veronica, Sonoma and Darla Partida (all of Polson); and numerous other relatives. Cremation has taken place.
LYLE WELDON HIATT
CHARLO -- Lyle Weldon Hiatt died here on Feb. 9, 2002, at age 85. He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Aug. 20, 1916. Lyle is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Edna and Ken Esterby (Charlo), Koven and Don McKenzie (Helena), and Joan and Ron Ruble (Spokane); three sons and their spouses, Dwayne Hiatt (Auburn, WA), Elwood and Nina Hiatt (Lincoln), and Terry and Diane Hiatt (Dallastown, PA); a grandson whom he raised, Rodger, and wife Marie (Chattaroy, WA); 7 other grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; one brother, Marvin, and wife Grace Hiatt (Deer Lodge); and three sisters and their spouses, Irma Stern (Spokane), Lavanna and Edward Bays(Lakeside) and Dorma and Rollie Hebel (McAllister). Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Aug. 3 in Lincoln at the annual Hiatt family reunion.
CHRISTOPHER J. HODGE
ST. IGNATIUS -- Christopher J. Hodge, 19, died on Oct. 12 with his fiancée, LaTeasa M. Hogge, from injuries sustained in an auto accident north of Ronan. Chris was born Dec. 26, 1981, in Poplar and was raised in Charlo, Camas Prairie, Ronan and St. Ignatius. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Cheryl A. and Ron Gaines (Lewiston); an adopted dad, Doran DuMont (St. Ignatius); grandparents Lyle J. Hodge (St. Ignatius) and Carl and Darlene Fourstar (Wolf Point); brothers and sisters, Brandy M. Lee (Milford, Calif.); Joseph D. Becker (Lewiston); and Travis H. DuMont (St. Ignatius); and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A wake began on Oct. 16 at the Longhouse here. Funeral services were Oct. 17, also at the Longhouse. Burial followed at the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.
