JERRY D. BOGGESS
EVARO -- Jerry D. Boggess, 52, died at his home here on March 8, 2002, of cancer. Jerry was born March 18, 1949, in St. Ignatius, the son of Sylvester and Dorothy Leona Blande Boggess. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond Sylvester Boggess; and his sisters, Vesta Hamilton and Bonnie Rusk. He is survived by his wife Jeannie (Evaro); his daughters, Cynthia (Marty) Davis (Milton-Freewater, OR), and Marie Boggess (Butte); two grandchildren; his brothers, Bob, Don, Burt, Boyd and David; his sisters, Betty Luppen and Sylvia Anderson; as well as 40-some nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held on March 11 in Missoula. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice.
VINSON BOURDON SR.
ST. IGNATIUS -- Vinson "Leon" Bourdon Sr., 74, of Mission, died on Sept. 29, 2001, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.
Lee was born Nov. 1, 1926, at the family home south of Ronan to Ursula Marie "Wassie" and Columbus William Bourdon Sr. Raised and educated on the Flathead Reservation, Lee joined the Navy and served in 1944 and 1945.
Lee worked at the Dupuis Sawmill for many years until 1972, when he went to work as the caretaker of the St. Ignatius Community Center. Retiring in 1989 after 17 years, he stayed involved with the Arlee Powwow Youth Center which he ran for 10 years.
When time permitted Lee would go fishing and hunting. He loved to go into the woods and go huckleberry picking. He also enjoyed being with his grandkids, taking rides and going to powwows. However, he will almost always be remembered for how you could tell he was around: One might say that he was never a quiet man with how he loved to yell.
Preceding him in death were his parents; siblings Francis, Art, Columbus Jr., Janie and Irene; and daughter Ruby Bourdon Good Shot.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Clara Rose Bourdon of Mission; children Amanda of Mission, Leon "Blue" Bourdon of Mission, Rose Ann and James Gardipe and their child Franklin of Mission Dam Homesites and Charles Douglas Bourdon and spouse Marie Blackwater and their children Andrea and Cheyenne, all of Teec Nos Pos, Ariz.; brother Bill Bourdon of Pablo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A traditional wake began on Sept. 30 at the St. Ignatius Longhouse. Wake closing was followed by funeral services on Oct. 2 at the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission. Interment with military honors was at the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.
DORATHY BOUSSARD
CHOTEAU -- Dorathy Boussard, 93, died here on Nov. 29. She was born in Canby, Ore., Sept. 8, 1908, to German immigrants Wilhelmina and Wilhelm Krueger. She and Charles Boussard were married June 7, 1931. Dorathy was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Charles Randall; her husband; and her brothers, Arthur and Theodore. She is survived by her daughters, Dana and husband Stan (Arlee) and Kathy (Mount Vernon, WA); and two granddaughters. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Dec. 8 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Choteau. Memorials in her name are suggested to the Choteau Public Library.
LARRY BOWE
MISSOULA -- Larry Bowe, 53, of Plains, died Sept. 3, 2001, at St. Patrick's Hospital here, as a result of complications from scleroderma. He was born on Nov. 3, 1947, in Chippewa Falls, Wis., to Clement and Dorothy (Swoboda) Bowe. Larry married Emily Fjelstad on Feb. 6, 1971. Survivors include his son, John (Bethany) Bowe (Hudson, WI); and his daughter, Elizabeth (Eau Claire, WI); his parents, Clem and Dorothy Bowe (Cadott, WI); sisters, Mary Jane (Marty) Green (Eau Claire); Suzanne Zien (Cadott); Sally Martens (Chippewa Falls, WI); five nieces and 11 nephews. Larry was proceded in death by a brother, John, in 1942; and his grandparents, Ferdinand and Theresa Bowe and John and Mary Swoboda. Services were held on Nov. 18, 2001, at the Assembly of God Church in Plains.
GERTRUDE KATHERINE BREUER
DIXON -- Gertrude Katherine Breuer, 86, died on Feb. 11, 2002, in her home here of natural causes. She was born January 1, 1916, in Ferdig to Nicholas and Katherine Hey. On April 4, 1940, she married Herbert Peter "Bud" Breuer in Sunburst. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Eugene and Victor; a sister, Katherine Kimmet; and a brother Edward Hey. Survivors include her children and their spouses, William and Nancy Breuer (Great Falls); Carol and Wallace Elliot (Chinook); Paul Breuer (Manley Hot Springs, AR), and Sherry Breuer (Great Falls); Jack and Diane Breuer (Dixon), and Charlotte and John Morigeau (Dixon); her sister, Helen Wensman (Milk River, Alberta); 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Feb. 16. Interment followed in the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.
RAYMOND W. BROWN
POLSON -- Raymond W. Brown, 73, died from natural causes on Sept. 30, 2001, at the Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center here. He is survived by his son, Frank Brown (Polson); daughter, Beverly Dalke (Pablo); five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services were held on Oct. 4 in Polson.
TED BROWN
DAYTON -- Theodore Sidney "Ted" Brown, 50, died here on Sept. 17, 2001, of a gunshot wound. He is survived by his parents, James B. and Alice Brown (Great Falls); two sisters, Vicki Gliko (Belt) and Ronnie White (Mount Vernon, WA); and two brothers, Jim Brown (Great Falls) and Terry Brown (Dayton). Funeral liturgy was Sept. 22 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Rite of committal was at Valley Ranch east of Belt. Memorials may be made to Yellowstone Boys Ranch.
JERRY V. BURNS
POLSON -- Jerry V. Burns, 66, died on Feb. 16, 2002, at Evergreen Health and Rehab. Center here, from natural causes. He was born on May 23, 1935, to Patricia (Penny) and Robert Burns in Seattle, WA. He married Alvina Lozeau on Feb. 13, 1962, in Seattle. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tina Burns, in 1984, and a step-son, Anthony Benson. He is survived by his wife, Alvina (Polson); three sons, David, and his wife Beth (Polson), and Robert Benson and Billy Benson (both of Seattle); two daughters, Delores Lozeau (Seattle) and Annette Corey (Saratoga Springs, NY); 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Feb. 20 in Polson. Cremation followed the service.
EUGENE BURROWES
POLSON -- Eugene Burrowes, 77, died of natural causes on Dec. 2, 2001, at the Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 23, 1924, in Twin Falls, ID, to Wilbur and Aldene (Quinn) Borrowes. Survivors include his brothers, Wendell and wife Marilyn Burrowes (Polson) and Keith and wife Beverly Burrowes (Billings); sister Mildred and husband Forrest Wood (Las Vegas); and nine nieces and nephews. Memorial services were Dec. 7. Memorials in Gene's name may be made to the new Polson stadium and activity complex.
DICK BURTCH
DIXON -- Richard L. "Dick" Burtch, 64, died on Nov. 29, 2001, at St. Luke Community Hospital in Ronan. Dick was born Jan. 21, 1937, in Niarada. He attended school in Dixon. Dick and Tiny were married Dec. 7, 1961. Preceding him in death were his dad, two infants and his brother, Ray. He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Tiny; daughters Ronda (Sam) and Tina (Randy); three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his mother, Marge Burtch; sister Donna (Mike); brother David (Darlene); and cousins, nieces, a nephew, and a brother-in-law. Wake services were held at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Mass was celebrated on Dec. 4 at the church.
MYREE BYERLY
PABLO --Myree Byerly, 66, died on Dec. 15, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Polson from natural causes. She was born May 20, 1935, on Walnut Ridge, Ark., to Lewis and Cordia Dalton. Myree was preceded in death by her husband, James Byerly, in 1990. She is survived by her children, Karen Britton, Nadine Littlefoot and James D. Byerly III (all of Pablo), and Steven B. Byerly (Yakima, Wash); six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services were Dec. 19 at Ronan Cemetery.
'SARGE' CAMPBELL
POLSON -- Harold Dean "Sarge" Campbell, 68, of Polson, died on April 27, 2002, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center from natural causes. He was born on May 11, 1933, in Weirwood, WV, to Lee and Garnet Campbell. He joined the U.S. Army at age 15. In 1950 Harold married Barbara Miles in Selah, WA. She preceded him in death in 1993. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Glenn and Roger. He retired in 1971 in Polson, where he was instrumental in the establishment of the first Alcoholics Anonymous group. He is survived by five sons: Harold Jr. (Kalispell), Michael (Helena), Phillip (Lewiston, ID), Patrick (Missoula) and Donald (Great Falls); numerous grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Florida); and one sister, Patricia Vanilla (Philadelphia). Memorial services and inurnment were April 30 in Polson.
JAMES W. CATES
ST. IGNATIUS -- James W. Cates III, 67, died on April 28, 2002, in Ronan after suffering a heart attack. He was born April 3, 1935, in Gillette, WY, to James and Willa Bell Cates. Raised in Campbell County, WY, Jim attended high school in Gillette. He then served in the U.S. Army; afterw which he became an electrician. He married Angelic "Dottie" Cates on Sept. 14, 1975, in St. Ignatius. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and a son, Little Jimmy, and numerous other relatives. Jim is survived by his wife of 26 years at the family home; his mother in Gillette; his sons, Lynn (Gillette), Neal (WA) and Curt (SD); a daughter, Terri Lynn Cates (CA); stepchildren Wade (Lisa) Hendrickson, LaMoine (Mike) Baker, Arles (Doug) Branson, Lynn Hendrickson (all of St. Ignatius) and R.T. (Stephanie) Hendrickson (Arlee), Jocko Shane (Shelly) Hendrickson (Valley Creek); 26 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his brothers Douglas "Buddy", Raymond and Tim Cates (Gillette) and two sisters Nancy (Jim) Slattery (Gillette) and Mary Barrett (Goldbar, WA). A traditional wake began April 29 at the Longhouse. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on May 1 in the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission. In accordance with Jim's wishes, cremation followed Mass and the cremains will be scattered over the Powder River in Wyoming.
VIRGIL ALLEN CLAIRMONT
RONAN -- Virgil Allen Clairmont was born in St. Ignatius on March 21, 1934, a member of the Salish-Kootenai Tribes. He attended grade school in Pablo and graduated from Ronan High School in 1952. He joined the Navy that same year and served as a radioman during the Korean War in Guam and on the USS Gurke until 1957.
After his time in the service, Virgil attended Griffin Murphy Business College in Seattle. He graduated in 1961 with a degree in accounting. Upon his graduation, he began working at Shell Oil Co. in Seattle, where he met his wife, Gayle Ingberg. They were married on Sept. 29, 1962.
In 1970 Virgil moved with his wife and two children back to Montana. He worked at the Kicking Horse Job Corps Center, first as an accountant and later as the center director. Virgil enjoyed his work at Kicking Horse and was dedicated to the success of its students. He earned an associate degree in human services from Salish Kootenai College during this time.
In 1992 Virgil began working for the Salish-Kootenai Tribes as the internal auditor. He worked for the tribes for 25 years. Virgil and Gayle also owned and operated the Ronan Dairy Queen and Java Junction.
While Virgil was a hard worker, his main priority was always his family. He shared 39 years with his beloved wife. He was the proud father of Travis Clairmont and Tracy Perez and father-in law to Genean Clairmont and Santos Perez. He greatly loved his 11 grandchildren: Daniel, Dakota and Hunter Clairmont, and Isidra, Lane, Su-San, Alicia, Lela, Nisa, Amanda and Silas Jr. Perez. He also included Maii, Siliye and Susselli Pete on his list of beloved grandchildren. Virgil is also leaving many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie and Henry Clairmont, brothers Dean and Bud Clairmont, and his Aunt Odna.
A traditional wake began May 12, 2002, at the St. Ignatius Longhouse. Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated on May 14 at the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission. Military graveside honors followed at Calvary Cemetery in Ronan.
DANIEL COLE
DIXON -- Daniel Lee Cole, 85, died at his home on Sept. 30, 2001. Dan was born Nov. 18, 1915, in Pryor, Okla., to Clem and Mary Cole. A member of the Cherokee Tribe of Oklahoma he was preceded in death by his parents and only brother, Doyle Cole. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, a son, Boone; and daughters Martha and Betty (all of Dixon); a daughter, Sally (CT); seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Oct. 12 at the family home near Dixon.
DONALD COLLINS
HOT SPRINGS -- Donald Charles Collins III, 33, of Hot Springs, died April 19, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital in Polson. He was born Sept. 3, 1968, in Polson, to Donald C. Collins II and Charlotte Hewankorn. He grew up in Niarada and attended elementary school and some high school in Hot Springs. He graduated from high school in Ronan. He attended Montana State Univ. in Bozeman and later, the Univ. of Montana, where he studied pre-law. Donald married Angela Whitecrane in 1988 in Missoula; they were divorced in 1994, when Don returned to Niarada and began to work for Tribal Forestry as a sawyer and a "hot-shot" firefighter. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also loved music and golf. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald "Sandy" Collins II. He is survived by his sons, Jerrard Christopher (JC), Donald Charles Clayton IV, and Nicholas Winslow; his mother, Charlotte; sisters Shannon Hewankorn and Mary Sue Hewankorn; maternal grandparents Charles and Alice Hewankorn; paternal grandmother Juanita J. Marquardt; his partner, Kassandra "KayCee" Smith; and numerous aunts, uncles and their children. Traditional wake services were held on April 23. A memorial service was held April 25 in Elmo. Burial followed at the Dayton Cemetery.
DORATHY JO CONLEY
ANACONDA -- Dorathy Jo (Findley) Conley, 81, formerly of Polson, died here on March 9, 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother Vernon and sister Helen. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Marlin and Sharon Overton (Anaconda); grandchildren Sharma and Fallon Overton and Krista Sullivan and great-grandson Isaac Orta (all of Anaconda); sister-in-law Evelyn Findley (Missoula); and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted on March 13 in Polson. Interment followed at Lakeview Cemetery.
DONALD A. CORRIGAN
POLSON -- Donald A. Corrigan, 80, died on April 23, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital here. He was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, to Atlas "Doc" and Gladys Pearl (Lyst) Corrigan. He married Bertie Anderson on March 7, 1942, in Libby. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and operated Corrigan's Disposal Service for 27 years. He also worked for Security State Bank as a janitor for 27 years, and was involved in local politics. He enjoyed woodworking, yard work and going to his cabin on the lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack Corrigan; a grandson, a great-granddaughter and a great-grandson. He is survived by his wife of Polson; a daughter, Lori (Doug) Cooper (Trout Creek); sons Garry (Ida) Corrigan (Polson), Larry (Jackie) Corrigan (Portland, OR), and Mike (Cathy) Corrigan (Polson); and a sister in Polson. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held on April 27 in Pablo. Inurnment with military honors followed at Lakeview Cemetery in Polson. Memorials may be made in Don's name to the Lake County Hospice, 711 Main St. S.W., Ronan, MT 59864.
TOMMY COUTURE
PABLO -- John Thomas "Tommy" Couture, 54, died on Jan. 26, 2002, of injuries sustained in a car accident near Polson.
He was born to Susan Andrew and Joseph Couture on Jan. 26, 1948, in St. Ignatius.
He was an enrolled member of the Salish-Kootenai Tribes, and was educated at the Ursulines and Flandreau Indian schools.
He married Florence Bays on Oct. 8, 1986, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
He served in Vietnam, and after he returned, he worked in the logging industry for many years. For the last 11 years, he has worked at S & K Electronics in various positions with the most recent being Production Coordinator.
Tommy loved anything to do with the outdoors. Most summers and weekends you would find him hunting, fishing, or camping with his son and grandkids. He also enjoyed going to his son's various sporting events. He was best known for "telling it how it was."
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Regina Matt.
He is survived by his wife, Florence, and a son, Travis (both of Pablo); a stepdaughter, Angie Quequesah (Dan James) of Pablo; a stepson, Joseph Quequesah, Jr. (Gwen Hewankorn) of Elmo; three brothers and their spouses, Richard (Annette) of Elmo, Roy (Janice) of Ronan, and Albert "Butch" Couture, of Parshall, North Dakota; three sisters Rita Cannon (Polson), Rhoda White Horse (Rocky Boy), and Judy Philips (Pablo); an aunt, Helen Charlo (Elmo); and his grandchildren Matyssa, Amanda, Amber and Isaiah Quequesah, and Kimberly and Karla Burke, with whom he shared a special and close relationship. He will also be dearly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
Traditional wake services began on Jan. 29 in Elmo. A funeral Mass was conducted on Jan. 31. Burial followed at the Dayton Cemetery.
