GILBERT L. INNES
POLSON -- Gilbert "Gil" L. Innes, 86, died here on Nov. 14, 2001, following a long illness.
Gil was born in Arlee on July 2, 1915, to Evans and Jennie Innes. His family moved to various places including Dillon, Ennis, Virginia City and Salmon, Idaho. After high school graduation Gil worked in the family meat market. He later worked for the state of Idaho Highway Engineers where he met Billie Chivers. They married on Feb. 24, 1942, in Long Beach, Calif., and resided there for a brief period of time while Gil worked in the shipyards during World War II.
In 1944, Gil and Billie moved to Las Vegas where Gil worked in a casino and managed an auto repair shop until he bought his own business. Eventually, a longtime friend lured him to Alaska to help him with a nightclub called the Top Hat in 1950.
Always the entrepreneur, Gil later became a partner in the Glenallen Lodge, owned a eon sign business, and the B & M Food Mart on College Road that served the Fairbanks community for 28 years. In 1978, Gil and Billie retired to Polson.
Gil was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman and gourmet cook. Gil and Billie traveled extensively and visited many foreign countries. In later years Gil loved to entertain and play pan with his close friends. While living in Fairbanks, Gil served on the Fairbanks Northstar Borough Assembly and was also a charter member of the Rotary Club.
Gil is survived by his wife of 59 years, Billie. His surviving children are daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Art Jernstrom; daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Jed Williams; son and daughter-in-law, John and Kathy Innes; and son Evans Innes (all of Fairbanks); along with 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on Nov. 19 at the Grogan Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Widerholdt officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Dillon City Cemetery. The family wants to thank the many hospice volunteers for loving care and asks that memorial donations be made to Lake County Hospice, 711 Main S.W., Ronan, MT 59864.
MITCHELL WAYNE KINSEL
POLSON ‹ Mitchell Wayne Kinsel, 39, died here on Nov. 9, 2001, of a brain tumor.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; two sons, Justin and Joshua; and a daughter, Brittany (all of Polson); his parents, Elwood and Wilda Kinsel (MI); two brothers, Phillip (MI) and David (Pensacola, FL); four sisters, Sandy (Reno, NV), and Vicky, Debbie and Michelle (all of MI).
Funeral services were held on Nov. 12 at the First Baptist Church, Polson, with Pastor Rudy Ringhoff officiating. Burial followed at Lakeview Cemetery, Polson.
EULA L. MCDONALD
HOT SPRINGS -- Eula L. McDonald, 90, died on Oct. 24, 2001, at Clark Fork Valley Nursing Home in Plains.
She was born on July 27, 1911, at Ida Grove, IA, the daughter of William and Lessie Abney. In 1912, the family moved to Judith Gap.
On July 19, 1930, she married Harry E. McDonald in Lewistown. The couple ranched at Garneill until moving to Hot Springs in 1966.
She is survived by two sons, Delbert McDonald (Missoula) and Dale McDonald (Spokane); one daughter, Betty Mosby (Winnett); and one sister, one brother, 14 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992, and by three sisters and two brothers.
Memorial services were Oct. 29 at Hot Springs Bible Church.
MARY JO MADISON
BIG ARM -- Mary Jo Madison, 75, died on Oct. 24, 2001, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula of natural causes.
She was born July 24, 1926, in Grand Island, NE, to Harley and Helen Simpson.
Mary Jo married Harold Madison.
Her son, Larry Lee Madison, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Harold (Big Arm); a son, Ron Madison (Flemington, NJ); and two brothers, Richard Simpson (Grand Island, NE) and Lyle Simpson (Ottumwa, IA).
There were no services at her request.
DONALD L. MAYS
BAYTOWN, Texas -- Donald L. Mays, 54, died on Oct. 26, 2001, at his home here of cancer of the pancreas.
He attended Whittier and Franklin grade schools, Hellgate High School and the University of Montana. Donald graduated from Lee College in Baytown. He served in the U.S. Army and two years in the U.S. Marines in San Diego and Barstow, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Tresa; parents Lavina and Raymond Mays (Missoula); one brother, Herschel Mays (Arlee); four uncles; one aunt; nine cousins; and three nephews.
He was cremated in Texas and a local private family service was held on Nov. 7. The cremains have been placed in the family plot in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Missoula.
SISTER JULIAN MORAN
SPOKANE -- Sister Julian Moran, 93, died on Nov. 10, 2001, at Mount St. Joseph here. She was a Sister of Providence for 74 years.
Sarah Marie Moran was born Jan. 6, 1908, in Moore to Timothy J. and Sarah (Clark) Moran. She attended schools in Great Falls and St. Ignatius before graduating from Sacred Heart Academy in Missoula in 1927.
Sister Julian taught school over many years, including Sacred Heart Academy and St. Francis Xavier School in Missoula. She retired in 1989.
Preceding her in death were her sister and three brothers.
A vigil service was held Nov. 16 at Mount St. Joseph.
WILLIAM H. MORIGEAU
ST. IGNATIUS -- William H. Morigeau, 45, died on Nov. 14, 2001, at his home in Ravalli. An obituary and service information will be announced at a later date.
ROSE J. ORR
ST. IGNATIUS -- Rose J. Orr, 82, died on Nov. 17, 2001, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.
Rose was born Dec. 15, 1918, in St. Ignatius to Francis and Rose (Bourdon) Soucie. She was raised on the Flathead Indian Reservation and received her education at the Ursuline School in St. Ignatius before she married Ray Orr on Sept. 16, 1941. They lived in Yakima, Wash., for a couple of years and then returned to St. Ignatius to make their home.
A dedicated wife and mother, Rose was a member of the Conf. Salish and Kootenai Tribes and enjoyed several hobbies when time allowed. She enjoyed raising flowers and houseplants, baking and doing several crafts. However, she will always be known best for her love of shopping.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992, her parents and siblings Florence Soucie, Blanche McLeod Zumwalt, Mary McLeod, Francis Soucie Jr., Julia Yerian and Laura Schliep.
She leaves behind her children, Thomas Orr (St. Ignatius), Betty Van Dorn (Missoula), Kenneth Orr (Norfolk, Va.), and Donna Orr (St. Ignatius); a brother, Joe Soucie (Missoula); her five grandchildren, Tami, Mikel, Denis, Carrie and Krista; seven great-grandchildren, Tyrel, Joseph, Kady, Marcus, Nicholas, Anton and Mercedes; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
As per Rose's wishes, cremation will take place. A gathering for friends and family was held Nov. 20 at the St. Ignatius Longhouse. Private family burial will be at a later date at the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.
GEORGE ROWLAND
POLSON -- George Rowland, 77, died on Nov. 16, 2001, of natural causes at St. Joseph Hospital here.
A memorial service was held on Nov. 19 at Grogan Funeral Home with the Rev. Rod Castro officiating. Cremation followed the service.
