He was born to Joseph Earnest Burcham and Ingereid Mathilda Burcham on Nov. 12, 1912, at the family homestead in Ismay.
In 1930 at the age of 18, Loren hitchhiked to Fort Peck and worked at the dam construction site. The family sold the ranch in 1940 and moved to the Three Mile area of Stevensville. Loren became a dairy farmer. During this time he also worked for the American Crystal Sugar Co., loading beets at the Three Mile Station.
After retiring from farming, Loren moved to Stevensville. Retirement was not for him; he became a janitor at the Stevensville Elementary School. Loren thoroughly enjoyed his 17 years at the school. The teachers and students provided him fond moments and memories. Many in Stevensville will probably remember Loren, wearing bib overalls, driving slowly around the Bitterroot Valley in his 1953 Willys Jeep. Loren was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 28.

Howard H. Harmon was born on the Tetly Ranch south of Medora, N.D., on Dec. 14, 1915, to Bert and Gertie (Tetly) Harmon. Howard was raised on both the Harmon and Tetly homesteads on the Little Missouri River. Howard grew up at a time when horses were still used for everything on a ranch, and he became a skilled horseman and bronc rider at an early age.
Many stories are told of his exploits as a young man such as riding a bucking bronco through downtown Medora one July 4th. Howard went to work for the North Dakota brand department in 1936. They sent him to St. Paul, Minn., where he inspected brands in the fall run of cattle sales. It was here he met and married Arlene Florence Homan Jan. 10, 1939. After the fall run was over, Howard took his new bride to the Harmon homestead on the Little Missouri, where he accidentally dumped her off a homemade raft into the icy river water. Even after this event, the couple were married for 61 years.
Howard worked off and on for the North Dakota Livestock Commission for nine years. He served in the Canine Corp branch of the Army training military dogs from 1944-1946.
He went to work for the Montana State Livestock Commission in 1946 and worked for them until his retirement in 1978.
Howard had a unique sense of humor and a colorful way of telling a story that touched everyone around him. He liked good horses, good hunting trips, and in later years, after his retirement, good agate-picking trips on the Yellowstone River. He will be sorely missed by all of his family and many friends. We loved him dearly.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Crane; sons, Howard Harmon Jr., of Manhatten and Tom Harmon of Crane; sister, Blanche Pelissier of Dickinson, N.D.
