Nancy Fanestil
1931 - 2008
Nancy Janet Fanestil, 76, of Anchorage, Alaska passed away July 9, 2008 following a spirited battle with cancer. She had been cared for in her home by her son Joseph Davis, daughter Sarah Grube, her wonderful friend Eiko, and the kind folks of Anchorage Hospice.
Walker Cross
1917 - 2008
Charles Walker Cross, 90, of West Yellowstone, Montana, passed away October 10, 2008, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of causes incident to age. His death was two days short of his 91st birthday.
Charles Raymond "Bud" Rogerson
1939 - 2008
Charles Raymond Rogerson, 69, died October 29, 2008 at the Ogden Regional Hospital, of a stroke.
He was born August 22, 1939 in Ogden, Utah, the firstborn son of Charles Chester and Dorothy Elizabeth Burnett Rogerson.
He graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber State College.
Gilbert Ray Bates
1925 - 2008
Gilbert R. Bates of Rigby, Idaho passed away on December, 19, 2008, at the age of 83.
He was born on April 20, 1925.
Frances Kawakami
1945 - 2008
Long time West Yellowstone resident Frances Kawakami died on June 30, 2008 after struggling with COPD for many years.
Frances was born on March 14, 1945 in Texas, and lived in West Yellowstone for the last twenty-seven years.
She was known and loved by many and was an active member of the local community, working at the West Yellowstone School and serving on the Library Board of Trustees for many years.
An avid flyfisherwoman, Yellowstone National Park was her spiritual home.
She is survived by and will be missed by her significant other, Steve, and her two sisters, Elinor and Margaret.
John Cassell
1953 - 2008
John Cassell, age 54, passed away at home in West Yellowstone on April 28, 2008.
The youngest child of Gerald and Mildred Cassell, John was born June 19, 1953 in Columbus, Ohio.
At age 20 John came to work in Yellowstone National Park and he stayed in the area for the rest of his life.
This beautiful area, including Big Sky and West Yellowstone, was John's ideal home.
He was most happy riding horseback in the mountains and leading a pack string.
Jim "Popo" Danskin 1924 - 2008
Jim Danskin, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away June 6, 2008 in Bozeman, Montana.
He was born in Los Angeles, California on January 19, 1924.
Dale Stelter
1947 - 2008
Dale Richard Stelter, 61 of West Yellowstone, passed away peacefully at his home with his wife by his side on April 17, 2008.
He was born in Sparta, Wisconsin, to William and Marvel (Hoffert) Stelter on February 4, 1947.
Max Huber
1930 - 2008
Max Huber, husband of Pat, lost his heroic battle with pancreatic cancer on March 26, 2008.
Born July 14, 1930 in New York City, Max grew up in Sierra Madre and Pasadena.
From hiking the local mountains and fishing the local streams, his love of the outdoors became a passion.
Lillian Ramzinski Guess
Lillian Ramzinski Guess, beloved wife of Francis (Spunky) Guess, passed away March 8, 2008.
Current residents of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, they were formerly of San Antonio, Texas.
She will be laid to rest on March 18 at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
George S. Weary
George S. Weary, 59, of West Yellowstone, MT passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, July 14, 2003 in the VA Medical Center in Denver, Colo. He was moved there following a fall on June 7, hospitalization in the Ft. Harrison VA Center in Helena, and determination that he had advanced cancer.
George was born July 7, 1944 in Compton, CA, son of Melvin and Ruth Bartlett Weary. The family moved to West Yellowstone, MT in 1948. George had polio as a child and with good medical care and a very devoted, loving mom, was able to overcome the doctors' predictions that he may never walk. He was raised and attended grade school in West Yellowstone, and High School in Phoenix, AZ.
He joined the Army and served as a helicopter mechanic stationed in Germany during part of the Vietnam war. After serving his country, he attended gun school in Denver, CO, then returned to West Yellowstone and opened a custom gun shop prior to buying the Visitors Bureau Gift Shop in 1970. George was a volunteer member of the West Yellowstone Police Reserves from the time they were formed until he became a part time Police Officer for the City.
Until his COPD and post polio precluded it, George was always outdoors as much as he could be. He was active in the NRA, and was a Past Master of the West Yellowstone Masonic Lodge, and a Knight's Templar in the York Rite of Bozeman. For many years, George spent his winters in Kino Bay, Mexico. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and photographing animals and scenery and adored his grand children and was looking forward to our next grand daughter due in Oct.
George was preceded in death by his young brother, Cleve and his loving mother, Ruth Bartlett Weary. Survivors include his father Melvin Weary of Phoenix, AZ, his wife, Kitty Weary of West Yellowstone, son Christopher of West Yellowstone, MT, three step-daughters - Laura, in the Air Force stationed in Colorado Springs, CO and her husband Edward Phillips, Amanda and her husband Brian Lain of Silver City NM, and Kassandra and her husband Timothy Parker of Bozeman, MT, also grandchildren Caitlynne and Brad Phillips and Nicole Parker and aunts, uncles and many cousins.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be at: Community Protestant Church, 500 N. Electric St, West Yellowstone, MT on August 1 at 2 PM.

Jesse Morgan Stovall
1910 -- 2004
Jesse Morgan "Jess" Stovall, 94, of West Yellowstone passed away Sunday, December 19, 2004 at Madison Valley Manor.
Jess was born December 4, 1910 in Musselshell, Montana to Lycurgus M. and Mary E. Stovall.
Jess attended school through the eighth grade in Musselshell. After school he taught himself to break horses. During this time he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp (C.C.C.), and worked at the Squaw Creek Camp as the Lead Fall worker on the road around the west shore of Hebgen Lake. He also worked on roads to Wade and Cliff Lakes.
When his work in the C.C.C. was done, Jess stayed in the Gallatin and Madison Valleys, broke horses, and did general ranch work.
He was a working cowboy and was the foreman at the B Bar K Ranch (now Lone Mountain Ranch) when he was drafted into the Army at the onset of World War II.
During the war he served in the field artillery, and saw combat in Okinawa and the Philippine Islands. After the war Jess was a guide for the Nine Quarter Circle Ranch. In 1947, Jess met Joan at a dance at the Corral Bar and they were married in 1949.
After his marriage to Joan, Jess worked for the railroad, until an accident left him partially disabled. During this time Jess helped to develop a machine to shoe horses; he did a lot of horseshoeing and cattle trimming. Jess was a hard-working man who always had a project going.
He built cabin in West Yellowstone in 1963. This was to be the family get-away on Hebgen Lake. Later it became the family home.
Jess was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife Joan, West Yellowstone; sons, Jess "Morgan" (Cathy) Stovall, of Park County, and Kirk (Diane) Stovall, of Bozeman; daughter, Ann Stovall, of West Yellowstone; sister, Alberta Dowdy, of Barstow, California; and grandchildren, Preston Stovall, of Bozeman, David Stovall, of Carson, California, Paige (James) Cahoon, of Seattle, Washington, Karmen (Shawn) O'Leary, of Phoenix, Arizona, Reid (Mishel) Stovall, of Havre, Montana, Jesse Stovall, of Bozeman, and Caroline Stovall, of Bozeman.
Cremation has taken place at Dahl Crematory. No services are planned at this time.
