Pearl E. (Lewis) Armagost

Surrounded by friends and family, Pearl, age 68, completed her long and courageous journey home on Feb. 5, 2002, at the Big Sky Care Center, where she had been a resident for 11 years.

Pearl was born on July 7, 1933, in Helena, to William C. and Esther (Best) Lewis. She attended Helena schools, graduating from Helena High in 1951.

She worked as a secretary of Public Instruction for 17 years until her illness forced her to retire.

Pearl is survived by one son Kim B. of Helena; one brother William C. Lewis of Helena; one sister Mary Barbour of Arizona; two aunts Genevieve Albracht of Helena and Jean Smith of California; special friends Florence and Bob Armagost; special niece and friend Edwina Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10, at Retz Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 11 at Retz Funeral Home with interment to follow at Forestvale cemetery.

Albert J. 'Bert' Glueckert

Albert J. "Bert" Glueckert, age 79, of 1529 Choteau, died Feb. 3, 2002, at the Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, Wash. Bert was born in Bozeman Sept. 5, 1922, to George A. and Mary Alice Glueckert. He graduated from Holy Rosary High School in Bozeman.

After Pearl Harbor was bombed, he enlisted in the Navy and was a member of the Pearl Harbor Avengers, and served in the South Pacific as a machinist mate 1st class. He was injured in the line of duty.

After the war, he graduated from Northrop Aeronautical Institute, he then joined the Montana National Guard and went on to be a pilot of fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. He was also a test pilot. Bert received the wings of a master aviator and became a chief warrant officer 4th class and maintenance officer of the Aviation Unit. Bert was a very decorated and was proud of his service to his country.

Albert and Beverly Ann Keim were married in Helena, June 26, 1950. She preceded him in death on March 31, 1994.

Dad was an accomplished fly fisherman, having fished many rivers in Montana and on the Prince of Wales Island in Alaska. The Tlingit and Haida natives adopted him into their tribes. He loved to hike in the backcountry. His favorite hobbies were growing roses and woodworking. He loved his family and was a man of faith and duty.

Survivors include his six sons and their families Bert and Pattie Glueckert, and their son, A.J. and daughter, Jolene; George and Laura Glueckert, and their daughter, Christie and sons, Chase and Thayer; Mike Glueckert and his daughters, Jacquie and Beth, and sons, Michael and Joe; Pat and Ann Glueckert, and their sons, Dustin, Rory and Andrew; Bob Glueckert and his son, Jacob and daughter, Monica; and Ron Glueckert; and Dad's special friend Peggy Mannix.

The Rosary will be recited 9:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at the Retz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Helena. Interment will follow at the Montana State Veteran cemetery with military honors accorded by the Montana National Guard. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Montana Right to Life, 1900 N. Main, Suite C., Helena, MT 59601, American Diabetes Association, 3203 3rd Ave. N. Ste. 203, Billings, MT 59101-1945, or to St. Johns By The Sea Church of Klawok, P.O. Box 170, Craig, Alaska 99921.

Matthew W. Nicholls Jr.

Matthew William Nicholls Jr., age 54, of Helena passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002. Matt was born in Butte on May 2, 1947, to Matthew and Margaret (Peggy) Nicholls. He attended schools in Butte and later served six years in the U.S. Army, which included a year long tour in Vietnam.

In May 1979, Matt married the love of his life, Becky Lee Carter. Matt and Becky had four beautiful daughters Chrissie, Jennifer, Nicole and Melissa.

Matt had numerous outdoor hobbies, which included boating, gardening and hunting. None of these, though, did Matt love as much as he loved to fish.

For the past 17 years, Matt has worked at Fort Harrison Veterans Hospital in Helena. He had a wonderful outlook on life and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Matt is survived by his wife and daughters, his father, Matthew Nicholls Sr. of Butte; his brother, Randy, with wife, Sandy, and their two children, Steve and Monica of Butte; uncles Donald, Charlie and Jack Nicholls of Butte, Kenneth and Helen Nicholls of Butte, Bob and Mona Cassatt of Seattle, Wash., Rose and Clinton Varker of Hamilton, and Betty and Duane Clark of Salt Lake City.

Matt was preceded in death by his mother Margaret and an uncle, Frank Cox of Salt Lake City.

Chapel Services will be conducted from Hagler-Anderson Chapel, Friday, Feb, 8 at 2p.m. The Rev. Steve Moody of the First Christian Church will officiate. Military graveside services will follow at Montana State Veterans cemetery, Fort Harrison. A reception will follow the graveside service at the Aladdin Motor Inn, Last Chance Gulch. Memorial contributions are suggested to Elkhorn Credit Union, We Care Fund for the Nicholl's Family, P.O. Box 1000, Fort Harrison, MT 59636.

Eva Elizabeth Hubbard

Eva Elizabeth Hubbard, 80, a longtime resident of Helena, passed away after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002. She was born near Rexburg, Idaho, Dec. 29, 1921, to G. Lelen and Martha (Galbraith) Weekes.

She resided with her parents, sisters and brothers on the family farm at Archer until her marriage to Winton Hubbard on May 22, 1940. Win and Eve farmed in the Archer area until 1946 when they moved into Rexburg. They moved to Montana about 1950 and had made their home in Helena since 1956. Eve worked as a cosmetician at Fligelman's Department Store, and as a retail fashion consultant and saleswoman at Rogene's Dress Shop. She retired from Rogene's about 1978. Win and Eve celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Helena May 22, 1990.

Eve enjoyed bowling, playing cards, reading and dancing. One special memory was dancing with Guy Lombardo at the Columbia Gardens at Butte in the 1950s.

Eve was an exceptional woman and friend. She was a loving mother and companion, and her family was indeed blessed to have her at their side throughout the years.

Eva was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 23, 1995, and two baby daughters in 1942 and 1949. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Delpha Beck and Lillian Bell.

She is survived by her daughter, Eloyce (Tom) Kockler, and her son, Bill (Vickie) Hubbard, all of Helena; her grandchildren, Greg (Terry) Kockler, Helena; Mark (Renee) Kockler, Whitehall; Brian Hubbard, Tony Hubbard of Helena; Kerry (R.C.) Payne of Okinawa; great-grandchildren Krista and Kurt Kockler; Alecia and Dylan Hubbard of Helena and Jonathan Hubbard and Madison Payne of Okinawa. In addition, she is survived by sisters Clea Briggs, Artella Schneiter, Anita (Jay) Peterson of the Archer, Idaho, area; Leah Andersen of Rigby, Idaho; Maxine (LeRoy) Hope of Idaho Falls; brothers J. L. Weekes of Lander, Wyo. and DeVar (Gwen) Weekes of Rexburg. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

There are no funeral services scheduled in Helena. The family will receive friends between the hours of 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Retz Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, Idaho. Burial will be at the Rexburg cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Greg and Mark Kockler; Brian and Tony Hubbard, great-grandson, Kurt Kockler, and nephew, Ed Andersen. Honorary pallbearer will be R. C. Payne.

Arrangements are by Retz Funeral Home of Helena and Flamm Funeral Home of Rexburg.

Delbert Henry Williams

Delbert Henry Williams, age 81, died at his home Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002.

He fought a courageous battle with cancer and passed away in the presence of his loving family.

Delbert served his country in the Navy during WWII from 1941 to 1947 aboard the USS Dortch (670).

After WWII he met and married Daphne Langman in 1947 and began farming east of Sweetgrass until 1982. Delbert and Daphne retired from farming and moved to Lakeside. In 1994 they moved to Helena and resided at 225 Wallace St.

Delbert enjoyed music, billiards, painting, fishing and wildlife. He and Daphne performed music at various rest homes in the Helena area. Delbert was a life member of the VFW, member of the National Rifle Association and the Treasure State Wheelers (Good Sam Club).

He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Anna Mae Williams, brother Tom and a sister Amy Nevilles.

He is survived by wife Daphne; sons Brad of Helena and Wade of Fairbanks, Alaska; sisters Jeannette McDonald, Shelby, and Anna Mae Purcell from Billings; sister-in-law Berma Weatherly and her children, Greg and Debra of Kalispell, and five grandchildren Aaron, Phillip, Brandon, Bryon and Ben.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the Veterans cemetery at Fort Harrison. Memorials may be made to Homelink of St. Peters Hospital, 2475 Broadway, Helena Mt. 59601.

Merek Michael Muszkiewicz

Merck Michael Muszkiewicz was born to Luke and Virginia Muszkiewicz at 8:25 p.m. on Aug. 31, 2002, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Portland, Ore.

He had his father's hands and perfect nose and his mother's imperfect feet. Merek spent his short life in the comfort of his parents. He passed away a little over an hour after he was born.

Merek is survived by his mother and father, Luke and Virginia Muszkiewicz, his grandparents, Art and Linda Compton, John and Debbie Reeves, and Mike Muszkiewicz, and aunt and uncles, Annie and Dustin Shaw and Alex Compton, all of Helena.

He is treasured and missed by all.

Del Reese Klundt

Del Reese Klundt, age 39, died Sept. 9, 2002, in an automobile accident near Helena. He was born Nov. 1, 1962, in Bussae-Foret, Charente-Maritime, France to Karl and Elaise Klundt.

Del had an outgoing personality and loved spending time with friends and family. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his parents, Karl and Elaise Klundt of Decator, Ala.; a brother, Rodney Klundt of Billings, sisters Karla and Dreama of Decator; his daughters, Kelcie and Alanna of Decator; and son Caleb Klundt of Boulder; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Canyon Ferry Road Baptist Church, 3384 Canyon Ferry Road.

Lt. Col. Samuel A. Mitchell

Lt. Col. Samuel A. Mitchell, USAF (Ret), passed away Sept. 11, 2002, at the age of 86. He was the son of Sam W. Mitchell a former secretary of State of Montana.

Survivors include his wife, Harriet Mitchell, San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Sherrie M. Jessen, Divide, Colo.; son, Samuel A. Mitchell, Fort Collins, Colo.; grandchildren, Samuel A. Mitchell III, James Daniel Mitchell and H. Michael Wolfe V; great-grandchildren, H. Michael Wolfe VI, and Rachel Lauren Wolfe.

No services are planned at this time.

Mary 'Rosie' Parks Hermes

Mary 'Rosie' Parks Hermes, 89, of Missoula, passed away at her home on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002. She was born Oct. 11, 1912, in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Katherine and John Brown.

Mary cooked for sororities and fraternities at the University of Montana and cleaned and maintained draperies for several businesses in Missoula. She was active in the Good Sam Club and was loved by all. She'll be remembered for her great sense of humor and a wonderful, fun-loving personality.

Her family includes a son, John Parks, his wife Deborah, of Stevensville, and their children Gary Parks, Brian Parks, Bruce Parks and his wife Michelle, Lacey Wisherd and her husband Amos and Kevin Parks and his wife Joan; a daughter Arlene Goudette and husband Bill of Missoula, and their children Ray Goudette and wife Mary, Sherrie Johnson, Robby Goudette and wife Judy; daughter-in-law Pat Jacobs and her husband John; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son James Parks, her first husband Arlee Parks and later, Ed Hermes.

Services will be held at a later date. The family suggests that memorials be made to St. Anthony's Parish, 217 Tremont, Missoula, MT 59801; or the American Diabetes Association, 7 W. 6th Ave. Suite 4F, Helena, MT 59601. Arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.

James V. Brackett

James V. Brackett, of Vienna, Va., son of Lillian and Perry Brackett of Helena, died as the result of a car accident Nov. 30, 2002, on the Washington Beltway.

Jim was 43 years old. He was Past Master of Sharon Lodge #327, McLean, Va., and past High Priest of Royal Arch, York Rite. He was instrumental in developing The Sharon Lodge Scholarship Fund. He was also very active in the United Church of Christ in Alexandria, Va.

He is survived by his wife, Beth; his parents; and a sister, Janine Sauer, of Mt. View, Calif., along with several cousins.

Guy Rea Young

Guy Rea Young, 84, of Helena, died July 30, 2001. He was born on Nov. 1, 1916, to Herbert and Mary Louise Young on the family homestead, at Flat, Mont., east of Roundup. He was raised on the homestead and attended Roundup High School.

A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army in from Oct. 1, 1941, to Dec. 20, 1945, with tours of duty in the Philippines, New Guinea and Australia.

On Nov. 27, 1946, he married Esther Olsen. They farmed at Deaver, Wyo. from 1948 to 1956. They returned to Montana and Guy worked at the Billings Livestock Commission. They moved to Helena where Guy worked for the Forest Service from 1964, retiring in 1979.

Guy enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, painting and spending winters in Arizona.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Esther Young; Grafton Beasley of Helena, who was like a son to him, and his children, Shauna Beasley Ryan of East Helena, Kelsey Beasley of Sacramento, Calif., Jamie Beasley of Bozeman, Veronica Beasley of Lewistown, Anthony Beasley of Helena; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Mignon Waterman of Helena. His son, Gary, preceded him in death in 1966.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m. at Lindens Herrmann and Co., 314 N. Rodney. Viewing will be at the funeral home beginning on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and again on Thursday from 9 a.m. to service time. Burial will follow at Ft. Harrison Veteran?s cemetery. Lindens Herrmann and Co. Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.

James Arthur Olsen

James Arthur (Art) Olsen, 85, died on Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Twin Falls Care Center. He was born on Jan. 9, 1916, in Ephraim, Utah, to the late James Andrew and Katie Christensen Olsen.

A memorial service and inurnment will be held on Friday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. at the Forestvale cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be given to the American Cancer Society, c/o Hazel Wilder, 359 Orchalara Ave., Twin Falls, ID 83301. White Mortuary is in care of the arrangements.
