William F. "Bill" Hume Sr.
William F. "Bill" Hume, Sr., 88, died Tuesday, April 23, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
Services were Friday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at the Fortine Community Church with Pastor Darrell Newby officiating; interment with military honors followed at Fortine cemetery.
Fred D. (Nip) Nelson
Fred D. (Nip) Nelson, 79, a longtime area logger, died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Hospital in Libby.
Services were held at the Tobacco Valley cemetery in Eureka with military honors.
GAY STEARNS
HARLEM - Gay A. Stearns, 77, formerly of Chinook, died at his home in Harlem on Friday after a long battle with congestive heart failure.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Fort Belknap Red Whip Center. Burial with military honors will be in the Malta cemetery.
Gay was the oldest of 12 children born on April 14, 1926, in Malta to Kenneth and Beatrice (Smith) Stearns. Gay attended schools in Whitewater. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served during World War II.
Gay was a bar/restaurant owner, rancher, pawn broker and also worked in the petroleum industry.
He married
Thelma Wallace in 1949 and they had five children. He married
Inez Brockelsby in 1975.
Gay enjoyed visiting with his family and many friends. He also enjoyed playing cards, dancing, listening to music, working with horses and his dogs.
Gay was a master at the art of making all who knew him, love him. He made friends wherever he went and treated all people equally. He was unabashedly warmhearted, kind and generous. He had a fondness for animals of all varieties. He thoroughly enjoyed assisting the injured and stray.
During his extended illness, he was cared for by his granddaughter Candice Stearns of Billings.
Gay is survived by his wife, Inez Steans of Harlem; sons Wesley (Martha) Stearns of Williston, N.D., Conrad (Lana) Stearns of Dickenson, N.D., Sanford Stearns of Miles City; daughters, Charmaine (Winston) Morin of Harlem and Tracie Johnson of Spencer, Iowa; stepson, Harold Brockelby of New Mexico; stepmother, Arlene VanWechel of Sunnyvale, Calif.; brothers, Lionel "Pete" Stearns of Wasilla, Alaska, Kenneth Stearns of Sunnyside, Wash., Bill Stearns of Prosser, Wash., Mike Stearns and Joe Stearns, both of Sunnyside, Wash.; sisters, Peggie Lappe of Great Falls, Ann Garman of Grandview, Wash., Gloria Wallace of Wapeto, Wash., and Hattie Jo Chancellor of Vancouver, Wash.; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Beatrice Stearns; sisters, Ramona Baker and Bernadine "Bunny" Trottier.
GLADYS CORNELLA
Gladys Juanita Cornella, 94, formally of Havre, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, in Chandler, Ariz., at a care facility of natural causes.
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Van Orsdel United Methodist Church with the Rev. VaunDalee Delong officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland cemetery. A fellowship reception will be held at the church immediately following the graveside service.
Gladys was born on Aug. 23, 1909, to William and Edith (Ryder) Lamphere in Dead Lake Township, Ottertail County, Minn. Her father farmed and the family lived on the farm for many years until they moved to Ottertail. Gladys attended country school and Perham High School.
On April 18, 1927 she married
Victor Cornella at Hettinger, N.D. It was a marriage that lasted more than 75 years. He worked in the coal mines until the late 1920s. When the mines closed, the family moved to a farm in South Dakota, where they remained until the depression drove them out. In 1937, the family moved back to Ottertail, Minn., to farm. In 1942 the family moved to Perham, Minn., where he started his career in the grain elevator business. During this time, Gladys became a full-time homemaker, wife, and mother. In 1944 the family moved to Havre, where they remained until 1969, when he retired and they moved to Mesa, Ariz. Victor Cornella died on Dec. 23, 2002.
Gladys worked as a waitress at the Great Northern Beanery during WWII and as a cashier at the Up & Up Café from 1947 through 1949.
After retirement, Gladys began to enjoy life more, with not as much work. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and ceramics, but she also enjoyed a daily swim and walking for exercise. She and her husband loved to dance and attended many dances.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edith (Ryder) Lamphere; husband, Victor Cornella; brothers, Nathan, Ralph, and Eugene Lamphere; sisters, Ethel Leaders and Theresa Clark; grandchildren, Jerry Cornella and Tina (Cornella) Jessen; and great-granddaughter, Gahbriella Courtney.
Survivors include her daughters, Donna E. Larson of Havre, Dolores (Sandy) Bliss and Darla Jasper of Mesa, Ariz.; son, Duane A. (Shirley) Cornella of Cheyenne, Wyo.; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 510 First Ave. N., Room 114, Freat Falls, MT59401; the Alzheimer's Association, 2900 12th Ave. N., Suite 4E, Billings, MT 59101; or to a person's choice.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
David H. George
David H. George, 65, of Eureka, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at his home near Eureka.
Private services and interment will be conducted in California.
Devinjeffrey Michael Veilleux
Devinjeffrey Michael Veilleux, 6, died May 5, 2002, near his home in Trego from an accident.
Graveside services were held May 12 at the Fortine cemetery.

Marion Elizabeth Field, 85, died Tuesday May 28, 2002, in Kalispell
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services were June 1.
JAMES BURCHARD
PORT ORCHARD, Wash. - James R. "Jim" Burchard, 76, of Port Orchard died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at his residence in Port Orchard.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1550 Hoover Ave., in Port Orchard. Interment will be at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
He was born April 12, 1927, to Charles and Anna Mae (Dubois) Burchard at Havre. He attended Havre High School and Northern Montana College.
On June 15, 1952, he married
June Scott in Fort Benton. He served with the Marine Corps during World War II. He received his GED while in the Marine Corps.
After his military service, he was employed by Great Northern Railway for 20 years. He retired as a pipe fitter and sheet metal mechanic. He went on to work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1966 as a pipefitter and retired as a reactor plant general foreman in 1981.
A devoted family man who enjoyed his children and grandchildren, Burchard built three family homes. In addition, he and his wife owned and operated family grocery stores in Manchester and Olalla.
Burchard was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and assumed leadership roles within the church. He also was instrumental in the original construction of the second phase of the LDS church on Hoover Avenue in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his wife, June Burchard; sons, Bryant Burchard, Reed (Cheryl) Burchard and Chuck Burchard, all of Port Orchard; daughter, Becki (Ron) Kabelac of Port Orchard; daughter-in-law, Ellura Duplex of Evans, Colo.; brothers, Sam Burchard of California, Vern Burchard of Havre and Gary Burchard of Spokane; sisters, Alyce Matson, Peggy Cloke and Mary Kelly, all of Spokane, Doreen Gault of Havre and Evelyn Hoffman of Missoula; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Burchard, and three grandchildren, Jason, Thomas and Shalynn.

Marian L. Johnson
Marian L. Johnson, 88, a former Lincoln County resident, died May 27, 2002 at Portland, Ore.
Services were conducted May 31 at the Bateman-Carroll Funeral Chapel in Gresham, Ore.
Committal services in Libby will be announced at a later date.
Lynn Russel Hinton
Lynn Russel Hinton of Nashua, Mont., age 42, died suddenly on Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, while working.
He was born May 18, 1960, the son of Jim and Shirley Hinton of Scobey. He attended school at Scobey, graduating in 1979. He married
Linda Sletten of Peerless on Sept 3, 1983, and they made their home in Nashua. He worked construction with his Uncle Leroy Siefert for 25 years.
He was a member of the Daniels County 4-H, Scobey Jaycees, Nashua Bowling League and enjoyed fishing, boating and hunting.
He was very well known for his handy work, organizing family functions, gardening and helping anyone in time of need.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Edward Siefert and Vera Waters.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of Nashua; parents, Jim and Shirley Hinton of Scobey; three brothers, Ed Hinton and his wife, Debbie and family of Scobey, Randy Hinton and his wife, Susan of Palmer, Alaska, Perry Hinton and his wife, Lori of Westmont, Ill.; one sister, Linda McCormick and her husband, Al and family of Billings; and his grandmother Eva Siefert of Glasgow.
He will be remembered and greatly missed by his family and friends for his kindness and his special love and affection shown to his nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Scobey Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Scobey cemetery.
David R. Helland
David R. Helland, 39, died at his home in Glasgow, Mont., from heart failure on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow with Rev. Martin Mock officiating. Burial will be in the Highland cemetery in Glasgow. Bell Mortuary in Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers are Ward Grewe, Kelly Siefert, Ole Komrosky, Josh Rector, Dale Borgen, Pete Helland, Chris Helland, Mike Stebleton, Tom Link and Bruce Mickelsen.
He was born on May 7, 1963, to Ronald and Joan Helland. He lived in Glasgow his whole life, graduating from Glasgow High School in 1981. He worked at the Glasgow Courier from high school until 1994 when he went to work for The Print Shop. He was a master printer.
He played football and was on the 1980 Class A Championship Team. He was a State Class A Wrestling Heavyweight Champion in 1981. He was very lucky to be selected to represent the State of Montana wrestling in Germany in the summer of 1980. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool and darts.
Preceding him in death was his father, Ron Helland, in March of 1988.
Survivors include his mother, Joan Helland of Glasgow; two brothers, James Helland of Denver, Colo., and Tom Helland and his wife, Lynette of Thornton, Colo.; four sisters, Karen Link and her husband, Tom, of Thornton, Colo., Elizabeth Knowlton and her husband, Harry of Hayward, Wisc., Stephanie Eayrs and her husband, Monte of Fallon, Mont., and Jennifer Fewer and her husband, James of Glasgow; uncles, Frank Helland of Glasgow, John Wetterling and his wife, Pearl of Everett, Wash., and Charles Wetterling of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Donald Duane Jellum
Donald Duane Jellum, 62, died at North Valley Hospital on Friday, Nov. 1, 2002.
He was born on Feb. 5, 1940, in Fosston, Minn., to Gordon and Ruth Jellum. The Jellum family relocated to Glasgow where he was raised and educated. He was a standout athlete in both football and basketball and graduated from Glasgow High School in 1958.
In 1962 he married
Dorothy Daley. They moved to Columbia Falls in 1967, along with their two girls, Jana and Jami.
He spent the majority of his career as a construction ironworker working on missile installations in North Dakota and Montana. He worked on the construction of the pot lines at the aluminum plant in Columbia Falls and many years at Libby Dam. After Libby Dam was completed, he traveled throughout the United States working as construction superintendent for Gracon. After a stroke in 1993, he came back to Columbia Falls to live with his family.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Among his most treasured memories were hunting camp in the South Fork and his fishing trips to Fort Peck Lake with his brothers. Throughout his life he enjoyed watching as well as participating in sports. He was especially fond of watching his grandchildren participate in the many different sports and activities that they were apart of. His grandchildren were the light of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dennis.
Survivors include his two daughters and their husbands, Jana Fields and her husband, Jack, and Jami Ward and her husband, Robert, all of Columbia Falls; his grandchildren, Zakary and Bria Ward and JD and Jylisa Fields; three brothers, Gale of Chinook, Steven of Gillette, Wyo., David of Mountain Home, Idaho; six sisters, Mary of Sandpoint, Idaho, Carol of Thompson Falls, Diane and Lois of Billings, Gloria of Glasgow and Susan of Great Falls: and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m., at the Columbia Mortuary in Columbia Falls with Rev. Roland Freeman officiating. Inurnment followed at Woodlawn cemetery in Columbia Falls.
