Lydia Propp
Lydia Propp passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at the age of 75.
Lydia was born a daughter of George and Mary Reichert Grauberger on June 21, 1925, in Milwaukee. She attended school in Forsyth and Edgar. Upon graduating she worked for Western Union for 30 years and for the State of Montana Job Service until her retirement in 1986.
She was church treasurer at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ until its closure and at the time of her death was the church treasurer at Christ the King Lutheran Church and the treasurer for the South Park Senior Center.
Lydia married Gilbert Propp on Feb. 6, 1954, in Billings and they had two sons, Gib and Lee Propp.
Survivors include her two sons, Gib and Lee; a brother, George Grauberger; a sister, Helen Zier; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dolores Propp, Bob and Dora Propp, and Elmer and Phyllis Kautz; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Lydia was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; and her parents, George and Mary Grauberger.
Lydia was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and loved her church work, her garden, yard and flowers.
She will be missed very much by her sons, brother and sister to whom she was a loving and devoted mother and sister.
Visitations will begin Tuesday evening at the Smith Downtown Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 8, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 709 Newman Lane, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Should friends desire, memorials are suggested to Christ the King Lutheran Church. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Johanna Sorensen
SIDNEY – Johanna Sorensen, 92, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the Pella Lutheran Church. Interment will take place in the Sidney cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.

Alexander Weber
Alex Weber died at home on Sept. 3, 2000, at age 81. He was born in Laurel to Henry and Maria C. Weber, the fifth of nine children. He married Natalie “Dolly” Mi-chael on April 11, 1941.
He served in the Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He was a postal carrier until retirement. He had been a past commander, service officer and 50 year member of the VFW, Post 1634. For 20 years he volunteered his time to the American Legion baseball program.
He is survived by his wife, Natalie “Dolly” Weber; daughter, Sandi Weber Burns of Billings; son, Doug Weber (Laura) of Phoenix; grandchildren, Brett and Brandon Burns and Meg Weber; great-grandchildren, Brenna and Tyler Burns. Also surviving Alex are two sisters, Esther Reiter of Bozeman, and Emma Anderson of Aurora, Colo.; and two brothers, Henry Weber of Laurel, and George Weber of Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Cremation has taken place . Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Michelotti Sawyers & Nordquist. Interment with military honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Thomas Nelson Welch
Thomas Nelson Welch, 69, of Huntley, died Saturday morning, Sept. 2, 2000, at his home.
The son of T. Harold and Nelsien Welch, Tom was born Jan. 24, 1931, in Amherst, Tex-as. He was raised and educated in Billings, graduating from Billings Senior High School in 1949. He attended Montana State College from 1949 to 1951 and graduated from Texas Tech in 1954.
He had worked as managing director for AT&T International in Bangkok before returning to Montana.
Tom married Claris Kelly Peterson in Red Lodge, July 6, 1995.
Tom loved to travel and enjoyed spending his summers at East Rosebud. He enjoyed working with wood, repairing cars, photography, genealogy and Billings and Montana history. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Des Moines.
Survivors include his wife, Claris of Huntley; his son, Thomas M. Welch and his wife, Sandra of Billings; daughter, Jennifer S. Welch and her husband Dick Hall of Omaha; stepchildren, Wendy Reinholz and her husband, John of Billings, Carl Peterson of Red Lodge, Carol Ann Chestnut and her husband, Scott of Bozeman and Jan Hendricks and her husband, Frank of Plymouth, Minn.; brother, William D. Welch of Omaha; grandson, Aaron Gebhardt of Omaha; and five step grandchildren, Paul, Peter and Ozzie Reinholz of Billings and Caleb and Wyatt Chestnut of Bozeman.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 6, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Big Sky Hospice, P0 Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107-5033.

Katie Marie White
Katie Marie White, 7, of Billings, passed away Aug. 30, 2000, at Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, as a result of a car-pedestrian accident.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Connors Funeral Home, 212 Broadway, Townsend.

Todd Gregory Bergerson
MILES CITY – Todd Gregory Bergerson, age 13, of Miles City passed away Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at his home in Miles City.
Todd was born in Miles City on March 16, 1987, the son of Bob and Vicki (Stone) Bergerson. He attended pre-school and grade school at Highland Park through the fourth grade, and at Lincoln School through sixth grade. He was currently a student in eighth grade at Washington Middle School.
Todd has played football since the fifth grade and played soccer also. He loved to fish, ride bicycles with his friends and build forts. Todd was also very involved in band and Sound Check at WMS, and the Jr. High choir and Jr. High UMYF at First United Methodist Church.
Todd is survived by his mother, Vicki Waddington and her husband Mark of Miles City; his father, Robert Bergerson and his wife Kay of Miles City; three sisters, Randi Hunter and husband Brian of Billings, and Libby and Becca Waddington of Miles City; a brother, Rob Bergerson of Miles City; grandparents, Grace “Mimi” Stone of Miles City, Aileen Waddington of Woonsocket, S.D., Bonnie and Bill Bergerson of Miles City, and Marjorie Lestar of Baker; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by two grandfathers, Dale Stone and Jack Waddington; and two great grandmothers, Lydia Youdan and Opal Stone.
Visitation will be held at 1-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church in Miles City with Rev. Grover Briggs officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Miles City.

Maxine Faye Randall Carpenter
Maxine Faye Randall Carpenter was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1930, and went home on Sept. 1, 2000. Her passing was a result of complications of heart cancer. She attended public schools in Billings and married Harlan E. Carpenter on Nov. 20, 1949.
She was one heck of a lady–one of a kind and she will be missed dearly. This gentle soul was surrounded by family and friends in her life, as well as her passing. Always on the go and very difficult to keep home, she often visited her friends, played bingo, bonko and attended plays and dinners. She touched many with her unique way of seeing the world and how she lived her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, of 44 years, Harlan E Carpenter who died in February of 1991.
She is survived by her four daughters and their families, Shari Spear (Don) and grandaughter Brigitte, Gloria Loveridge (Cole) and grandchildren Michael and Karen, Leanne Carpenter Mills (Jeff) and grandchildren Tasha Mills, Joshua Frost, and Tara Frost, Robbie Carpenter Winterhalter (Vince) and grandchildren Ryan and Alysa; her brother, Marlin Randall; her sisters, Barbara Flemming (Darryl), Lois Bender, Diane Hert (Ron) as well as many nieces and nephews. She also had many, many special friends who she maintained unique friendships that spanned decades: They include Genevieve Carpenter, Annabelle and Robert Lane, Lois Batt, Kathy Paxinos, Betty Zeiler, Bev Clark and others too numerous to mention.
She had a special trait of never doing things the usual way that brought amazement and smiles to our hearts. And even though the body has been laid to rest, we know the spirit is strong and ever close.
We would like to thank the Deaconess Billings Clinic ICU nurses and staff, as well as Dr. Camilla Saberhagen, Dr. Pueringer, Dr. Hurd and Dr. English for taking such gentle and dignified care of her during her illness.
Memorials can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Visitation will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept 4. Funeral services will beheld at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept 5, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary with cremation to follow. Private interment services are planned at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

DuWaine A. Curtiss
BASIN, Wyo. – DuWaine A. Curtiss, 71, of Basin, died at his home on Aug. 30, 2000. He was born Oct. 18, 1928, in Circle, Mont., to Francis and Christine (Burger) Curtiss and married Lauriena Lemieux on March 1, 1949. They moved to Wyoming in 1952.
Employment included serving as a police officer in Lovell for two years, undersheriff in Basin for several years, and then years as a lineman for the Big Horn REA. He retired in 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Lauriena, and their children and their spouses, Roger and Debbie Curtiss of Atlanta, Vickie and Russell Wenke of Cody, Connie and Mike Reinig of Helena, Mont., Sheri and Phil Hartman of Basin; son-in-law, Charles Hopkin of Basin; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Iola Pearson of Belt, Mont., and Eunice Southern of Fairview, Mont.; and brothers, LaVerne Curtiss of Simms, Mont., Mark Curtiss of Billings, and Vance Curtiss of Great Falls, Mont.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, in Mount View cemetery in Basin.

Frank C. ‘Bud’ Daniels
Frank C. “Bud” Daniels, 71, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2000, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney. Interment will military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 4099 of Sidney in the Lone Butte cemetery. Memorial services will be held in the afternoon on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Faith Chapel in Billings.

Kenneth W. Hartman
Kenneth W. Hartman was born on Oct. 18, 1922, in Greybul1, Wyo. Ken attended Lawrence University and graduated from the University of Wyoming in June of 1947. Ken was in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46 and achieved the rank of Ensign CEC. From 1947-52 he worked for the Bureau of Reclamation. He was employed by Lockheed, Koeloig and Koeloig and Murray Associates in California from 1952-55. Upon moving to Montana, Ken worked at Montana Department of Highways, retiring in February of 1985. Kenneth married Marguerite (Peggy) Wagner on Sept. 6, 1948.
Kenneth leaves behind his wife, Marguerite; sons, Kendall (Dee Ann) of Park City, and Ron (Kristi) of Billings; daughter, Vicki (Mark) Mason of Scottsdale; seven grandchildren, Travis, Kari, Jessica, and Alison Hartman, Renea and Chad Mason and Michelle (Peter) Donna; and his sister, Kay Marmie. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alleen; and brother, Ed.
Viewing will be held at 2-4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, Eighth Street West and St. John’s Avenue. Funeral will be held at l0 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Christ the King Lutheran Church. Interment with Military Rites will follow at Mountview cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Church, 759 Newman Lane, Billings, MT 59101.

Ailleen R. Hedges
EKALAKA – Ailleen R. Hedges, 95, died on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at the Dahl Memorial Nursing Home.
Ailleen requested no public services. Private funeral services will be held. Interment will take place in the IOOF cemetery at a later date. Stevenson Funeral Home is in charge.

Rev. William John Kliber
MISSOULA – Rev. William John Kliber, 70, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at home in Missoula after a short illness.
Bill was born August 3, 1930, in Buffalo, N.Y. to William F. and Celia Kliber of Buffalo. Bill lived in Buffalo and graduated with honors from Bennett High School in 1948. Bill attended college at Syracuse University where he was a double major English and Bible and religion, and a double minor in history and philosophy, he graduated with honors in 1952. Bill received a Danforth Grant to Yale University, where he received a master of divinity in 1955 and a master of theology in 1968.
He was ordained as a deacon in the United Methodist Church in 1953, and as an elder in 1955.
He was in the U.S. Naval Reserve 1947-1952, and the U.S. Air Force auxiliary chaplain 1956-1957.
Rev. Kliber accepted a ministerial position as a Youth Minister in Orange, Conn., with the Orange Congregational Church while in seminary at Yale 1953-55. In 1955, he arrived in Libby, and served the First Methodist Church leaving in 1957 for Great Falls. He founded, built and was pastor of the Christ United Methodist Church in Great Falls serving until 1961. From 1961-1972 Rev. Kliber was Methodist campus pastor and director of the Wesley Foundation’s Faith and Life Community at the University of Montana in Missoula.
In 1972, he became the senior pastor at First United Methodist Church in Missoula until 1981, when he returned to Syracuse University as Protestant chaplain for one year. Rev. Kliber returned to Missoula in 1982, and from that time until 1986, he was a high school teacher and executive director of the Montana Eye Research Foundation. From 1986, until his retirement in 1993, Rev. Kliber was pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church in Livingston, as well as the pastor of the Shields Valley United Methodist Church in Clyde Park.
In 1959, Bill met and fell in love with Marynell Schafer, they were married on Dec. 30, 1959. They became an instant and constant team. She put the extra twinkle in his eye and an extra bounce in his step that he carried though all of his life.
He was an active member on numerous boards and work camps of the United Methodist Church and Campus ministry through out his life. His civic and community life involvement was extraordinary. In Livingston, he was on the United Way Board of Directors; member and president of Rotary International; Women-in-Transition, advisory board member; Hospice Board of Directors; Community Concert Series, Board of Directors. In Missoula, he was Board President of the University of Montana School of Religion; co-founder and Board of Director member of die Big Brothers and Big Sisters; co-founder and Board of Director member of the Poverello Center; member Rotary Club of Missoula; member of the Missoula City/County Gambling Commission; School Board trustee (District #1); University of Montana Foundation: Deer Lodge State Prison, Board of Review: Missoula Youth Homes member Board of Directors; Summit-Independent Living Center for the Physically Disabled member Board of Directors; Missoula Community Theater Board of Directors; Mayor’s Committee for Downtown Missoula Renewal; University of Montana’s College of Fine Arts Advisory Board; Ronald McDonald House of Missoula steering committee; founding father and advisor of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity at the University of Montana; University of Montana Fraternity and Sorority Council advisor.
Rev. Kliber enjoyed everything that life offered. He found joy and goodness in all things and every person he encountered. He will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Marynell of Missoula; one daughter, Kristin (Craig) Larsen, and their two children, Erika and Kaitlin of Baudour, Belgium; two sons, Brad Kliber (Linda) of Whitefish, Drew (Heather) Kliber of Salt Lake City, Utah; brothers, Phil Kliber, Buffalo, N.Y., Arthur Kliber, Buffalo, N.Y.; a sister, Mary McAuley, Phoenix; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at the University of Montana Theater, with Rev. Peter Shober officiating.
Rev Kliber requested memorials, in lieu of flowers, to Camp Make A Dream, 3700 S. Russell, Missoula, MT 59801; United Methodist Foundation, P.O. Box 7646, Missoula, MT 59807-7646, and/or the Ronald McDonald House of Missoula, Community Medical Center Campus, 2827 Fort Missoula Road, Missoula, MT 59804.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Malletta Family of Funeral Homes Livingston Chapel, 224 W. Spruce, Missoula, MT 59802.

Lucille L. Meridith
Lucille L. Meridith, 95, of Billings, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Western Manor Nursing Home.
The daughter of George and Grace Jacques, Lucille was born in Exeland, Wis., March 24, 1905.
Until moving to Billings four years ago, Lucille had lived at the same address in Powell for over 50 years. She worked as a cook for the Powell Valley Hospital and Nursing Home for over 20 years. Lucille was a member of the Powell United Methodist Church and was very active in the Rebekah Lodge, serving as vice grand.
She married Rheudy Meridith in Powell, Aug. 12, 1924.
Survivors include her daughter, Imogean McPhail and her husband, Bob of Billings; her son, Donald Meridith and his wife, Connie of Bandera, Texas; a sister, Edyth Burns of Huntington Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rheudy; five brothers; and a sister.
Cremation is planned and graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, in the Crown Hill cemetery, Powell. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Michelotti, Sawyers and Nordquist has charge of arrangements.
