Dena A. Duncan
POPLAR – Dena A. Duncan, 29, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, near Poplar as the result of a pedestrian accident.
Visitation will be on Friday at the Assembly of God Church with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church with burial in the Riverside cemetery near Brockton. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Mathew Ferkovich, Sr.
WHITEFISH – Mathew M. “Matt” Ferkovich Sr., 61, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at St. Patrick Hospital of natural causes.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at St. Charles Catholic Church. Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge.

Hilda Gebhardt
CIRCLE – Hilda Pauline Gebhardt, 72, of Circle, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at the Sidney Hospital.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Clayton Memorial Chapel. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Salem Lutheran Church with burial in Riverview cemetery.

Frances Hunnicutt
POWELL, Wyo. – Frances Louise Hunnicutt, 95, died Tuesday at the Powell Nursing Home.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with burial in Crown Hill cemetery.

S. Doris Larson
GLASGOW – S. Doris Larson, 106, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Home of natural causes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the First Congregational Church with burial in Highland cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

Marian E. Meier
LAKESIDE – Marian E. Meier, age 67, passed away Sept. 6, 2000, at her home in Lakeside. She was born April 9, 1933, in Worden, to Harry and Katherine (Baum) Karst.
Marian received her early education in Worden where she graduated from high school. She then worked for a short time before meeting and marrying Robert L. Meier in Billings. The family remained in the Billings area until moving to Kalispell in 1977 where they purchased Hendrickson Motors after which it was known as Meier Chevrolet.
Marian enjoyed the many trips she was able to take with Robert in the early years. She also loved “Coco, ” her little Shi Tzu companion.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and one brother, Lavain Karst. She is survived by one son, Dale Meier and wife Londa of Kalispell; two daughters, Carey Meier of Phoenix, and Renee Erdman and husband Mark of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother: Harold Karst and wife Harriet of Worden; one sister, Doris Platt and husband Emmett of Tacoma, Wash.; and seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Justin, Stuart, Brent, Brandon, Tawnni and Tristan.
Memorial services for Marian E. Meier will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, in the Johnson Mortuary Chapel. The family suggests memorial gifts be given to Home Options/Hospice, 1280 Burns Way, Kalispell, MT 59901.
Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Johnson Mortuary & Crematory.

Anna May Morgan
LIVINGSTON – Anna May Morgan, 66, died at her home Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000.
Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Crematory. Family memorial services and burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date.

Fred A. Norris
CODY, Wyo. – Fred A. Norris, 79, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at his home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Ballard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cody Bible Church with burial in Riverside cemetery.

Richard Schloemer
CODY, Wyo. – Richard G. “Dick” Schloemer, 65, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at his home.
Cremation has taken place. A gathering in celebration of his life will be announced later.

Lula Shongo
STERLING, Va. – Lula W. Shongo, 86 of Sterling, Virginia, formerly of Billings and Lodge Grass, Mont., died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at Sunrise in Countryside, Sterling, Va.
She was born Sept. 23, 1913, in Roxbury, Va., a daughter of Elijah and Blanche Adkins Whitehead. She graduated from Bacone College in Oklahoma and William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo.
Lula married Barry Shongo June 19, 1948, in Buffalo, N.Y. They taught school in Roxbury, Va., then moved to Mt. View, Okla. In 1952, they embarked on a 13-year ministry to Indian tribes in the area. In 1965 the Shongos moved to Lodge Grass, Mont., where they ministered to the Crow Indians for 13 years. In 1975, Rev. Shongo suffered kidney failure, which forced a move to Billings.
A member of the First Baptist Church, Mrs. Shongo resided in Billings after the death of her husband in 1985. She moved to Sterling, Va., in November 1999, where she resided until her death.
Lula was a truly remarkable person. Her love for the Lord was demonstrated throughout her daily life and in all that she did.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Andrew; and two sisters, Delores and Sarah.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Regina (Charles) Rosenwinkel of Sterling, Va.; a son, David of Billings; three grandchildren, Megan, Rebecca and Robert; a daughter-in-law, Nicole and two sisters, Ezra and Clarice.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, in the Lodge Grass First Crow Indian Baptist Mission. Interment will follow in the Lodge Grass cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Billings First Baptist Church. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to: Chief Inc., 1644 E. Campo Bello Dr., Phoenix, AZ 85022-2108 or American Bible Society, 1865 Broadway, New York, NY, 10023 Attn: Annual Programs (specify general support).

John Sukut Jr.
CIRCLE – John Sukut Jr., 82, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at the McCone County MAF and Nursing Home.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Clayton Memorial Chapel.

Everett ‘Ed’ Asbury
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Everett “Ed” Asbury, 86, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Private committal services will be in the Sheridan Elks cemetery. Ferries Funeral Home is in charge.

Michael Dale Bennett
At the young age of 35, our son, Mike Bennett died as the result of an automobile accident in Billings on Monday. Sept. 4, 2000. Mike was born in Peoria. Ill., the son of Kenneth and Juanita (Blakeman) Bennett on May 11, 1965. He grew up in Washington, Ill.
Mike attended grade school and high school there, setting records in wrestling. In Illinois, he worked on a river barge as a deck hand and was later promoted to a Mate on that barge.
Mike moved to Billings in the early ’90s, where he worked as a cook and laborer. Rock ’n’ roll music, fishing, camping and riding his bike were what Mike loved about life.
He leaves behind his parents. Kenneth and Juanita of Park City; a sister. Nancy Bennett of Billings; brother, Patrick and wife Leah Bennett of Metamora, Ill., and their children Joshua and Matthew; brother, Tim and wife Noriko of Laurel; and sister, Mary Bennett of Park City.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 8, at Dahl Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Montana Rescue Mission, 2822 Minnesota Ave., Billings, MT 59101.

E. Joyce Byrd
LAYTON, Utah – Our loving and caring, wife, mother and grandmother, Ethel Joyce Phelps Byrd, passed away Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, in Layton, at the age of 87.
She was born Dec. 31, 1912, in Win-fred, S.D., a daughter of Jay Byron and Eth-el Mae Phelps. The family left South Dakota and homesteaded near Jordan, Mont., where Joyce went to high school and lettered on the girls’ basketball team.
Following high school graduation, Joyce attended Eastern Montana Collegemajoring in education. She began teaching at a one-room school house near Jordan, Mont., where she met and later married a local cowboy, Roscoe C. Byrd, on April 20, 1936.
Joyce loved sewing and cooking for her family, making crafts andshopping. After retirement, she was an avid volunteer, spending time at St. Vincent Hospital and several nursing homes in Billings.
She was an actively involved member in the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Roscoe, of Layton, Utah; one son, Roscoe Lee (Judy) Byrd of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Marjorie Joyce (Bud) Funk of Mountain Green, Utah; six grandchildren, Debbie, Larry, Brenda, Karen, Tammie and Marcie; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah, with interment in the Mountain Green cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice.
Grandma, we love you and will miss you.

Arnold ‘Bud’ Dinsdale
Arnold “Bud” Dinsdale, 85, of Livingston, passed away Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000.
He was born Aug. 26, 1915 in Red Lodge, a son of Jeff and Jeanette Ouwersloot Dinsdale. He moved to the Masachita (Sarpy) area in 1917, where he attended grade school. He later moved to Hardin and attended high school until the age of 15, when he began haying with his dad on the Rosebud.
He worked for the OW Ranch on Toulac Creek before spending one year with the Civilian Conservation Corps, where he learned the diesel mechanic trade. After spending time at the CCC Camp, he worked for the Harvey Wilcutt Ranch and later started a pool hall and hamburger stand in Hardin. At this time, he met Louise Fergerson and they were married on Feb. 10, 1938 in Hardin.
Bud worked at the Holly Sugar Factory for a time, before owning and operating a custom combine business. Bud herded sheep, as well as starting a dry land farming and cattle operation in the Pryor area. In 1956, the family moved to Limestone, where they continued to farm and ranch. In 1963, they moved to a larger ranch near Livingston and in 1969 they moved to Shane Ridge near Columbus, until their retirement in 1982 to Absarokee.
Mrs. Dinsdale died in 1990. Bud remained in Absarokee until 1995, then to Columbus until 1997 and finally to Livingston until the present.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen (Sam) Belling of Poulsbo, Wash.; two sons, Dan (Cathy) of Livingston and Ted (Jodie) of Roberts; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two sisters, Louise Cramer of Vernal, Utah, and Edythe Rice of Lodge Grass; and one brother, Alfred (Betty) Dinsdale of Harlowtown.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Hardin Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
