Donald Earl Johnson
Donald Earl Johnson, 72, of Billings, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2000, surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Butte, the son of Earl and Margaret Johnson.
The family moved to Great Falls where Don attended school, graduating from Great Falls High school in 1946.
Don served in the Navy 1946-1948. The highlight of his service was being a part of Operation High Jump, Admiral Byrd’s last expedition to the Antarctic.
Don married
Mary Alice Regan in Great Falls in 1953. They had a son, Ronald Earl, and a daughter, Krista Lynn. Mary Alice passed away in 1985.
He began his work career with Montana Power Co. in 1944, working in Great Falls and Bozeman. Don attended Montana State College 1959-1963, receiving a degree in electrical engineering. Upon graduating, he went back to work for MPC in Great Falls, then transferred to Billings in 1964. In 1969, he left MPC to begin a career in cable television, going to work for Telecommunications Inc. in Denver as an engineer and safety director. He transferred to Helena as Helena cable TV manager in 1970, retaining that position until 1979.
Don was past president of the Montana Cable Television Association and worked on the filming of the Montana Constitution Convention.
He returned to work for MPC as an engineer in Helena and Billings, retiring in 1988 as the Billings division superintendent.
Don married
Sarah Berggren in 1989, and they spent their retirement doing what they enjoyed most, golfing, bowling, and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah; son, Ron (Denise) of Billings, daughter, Krista (Mark) of Helena; stepdaughter, Sandy (Tony) Nave of Billings; grandchildren, Maria and Britney McAlmond, Tucker, Kassi and Joshua Johnson, Tracy and Russell Nave; great-granddaughter, Kara Nave, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His winning smile and tender nature will remain in our hearts and minds forever. Thank you, Don, for the wonderful influence you had in our lives. We look forward to being with you in eternity.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial Mass will be held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Billings on Thursday, Aug. 3. at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to Shiner’s Hospital for Children, P.O Box 2472, Spokane, WA 99210-2472 or Billings Food Bank, P.O. Loretta Fae Buck Lynch
Loretta Fae Buck Lynch, 61, passed on to a beautiful new beginning on July 30, 2000. She was diagnosed with liver cancer on Friday and the Lord took her quickly.
Loretta was born in Kalispell on July 19, 1939, to Howard and Beulah (Chapman) Buck. She attended schools in Kalispell and graduated from Columbia Falls High School in 1957. She attended business school in Billings where she met Dennis Lynch and they were married
in June of 1959.
She was active in many civic organizations which included Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Billings Studio Theater and several bridge clubs. She served as a School District librarian during the ’70s and ’80s. She enjoyed volunteering her time and was a generous supporter of many causes. She loved her family and was instrumental in organizing many family reunions.
She is survived by her loving husband Denny, of the family home; her mother Beulah Buck of Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Barbara Michalson (Mick) of Des Moines, Wash., and Mary Murphy (Mike) of San Diego, Calif., and a brother, Keith Buck of Bellevue, Wash. She had five beautiful children, Lennis Jaycock of Billings, Leigh Ann Bandet (Henry) of Palo Alto, Calif., Rhonda Romero (Rick) of Billings, Leonard Lynch (Charlene) of Spanaway, Wash., Randy Lynch (Kira) of Billings. She also is survived by 10 (almost 11) grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Howard and her brother Howard, Jr.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Bernard’s Church in Billings. A reception is following in the church basement. A memorial fund has been set up to benefit the Special K Ranch and the American Cancer Society. Donations may be sent to the Loretta Lynch Memorial Fund, First Interstate Bank of Billings, P.O. Box 30918, Billings, Mont., 59116. Her unique ability to reach and touch people’s hearts made her a dear friend to many.
William Russell ‘Bill’ Manger Jr.
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS – William Russell “Bill” Manger Jr., 48, of White Sulphur Springs, passed away Sunday evening, July 30, 2000, of cancer.
Bill was born on Oct. 22, 1951, to William Russell and Gloria J. (Peltzer) Manger in Bozeman. He grew up in the White Sulphur Springs area and attended school graduating from White Sulphur Springs High School.
Bill married
Katie Margaret Schnobrich on Feb. 21, 1982, in White Sulphur Springs.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and he loved his white Fords, drag racing, camping, floating the river and the dry range.
Bill was preceded in death by his father and mother, Bill and Gloria Manger. Survivors include his wife, Katie Manger of White Sulphur Springs; son, Kyle William Manger and daughter, Brandy Lee Manger, both of Juneau, Alaska; brother, Rick Manger and sister, Susan Manger, both of White Sulphur Springs; granddaughter, Autumn Leanne Thompson; nieces, Amy Manger and Lacy Morrison; nephew, Bodie Morrison; grandmother, Ann Manger; Uncle Harry Peltzer and Aunt Lorraine Sherwin.
Graveside memorial services will be 3 p.m., Friday, Aug. 4, at Mayn cemetery, White Sulphur Springs. Twichel Funeral Home arranged the services.
Edward ‘Eddie’ Mansheim
SIDNEY – Mass of the Christian Burial for Edward LeRoy Mansheim, 58, of Sidney will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at the Saint Matthew’s Catholic Church with Father Greg Staudinger as presider. Wake services will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel.
Family and friends will gather at 10:45 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4 at Stevensons and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City Interment will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 4, in the Custer County cemetery in Miles City with Father Wilfrid Splonskowski officiating under the direction of the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney and the Stevenson and Son’s Funeral Home in Miles City.
Eddie was born on June 1, 1942, in Winner, S.D., the son of Elmer and Alice (Reides) Mansheim. He attended school in Tripp County, S.D., and graduated from high school in Colome, S.D., in 1960. Eddie joined the U.S. Air Force on Oct. 6, 1960, and was honorably discharged in 1964 when he started working in the oilfield with the Danielson Oilfield Service in Baker. Eddie worked in the oilfield in Baker, Craig, Colo., Duchesne, Utah, and later Sidney. While in Sidney he worked for Mitchell’s Oilfield Service until his health forced him in retire in March of 2000. Eddie was united in marriage to Charmaine (Sherry) Schnabel on July 2, 1980, in Pierre, S.D.
Eddie was a member of the Saint Matthew’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge, and the Moose Lodge. He was an active softball player and coach for numerous years. He bowled for several years and after retiring from “active” sports, Eddie took up fishing. He enjoyed watching his Chicago Cubs and Bears, as well as the Sidney Eagles of which he was a true fan! He worked hard making his lawn look beautiful. Eddie’s goal in life was the happiness of his children and to watch and enjoy his grandchildren. He was a kind and loving man who would do anything for anyone.
Eddie died at his home on Saturday, July 29, 2000.
Surviving him are his wife, Charmaine (Sherry) Mansheim of Sidney, a son, Joe Mansheim and wife Sean of Graham, Wash.; a daughter, JoLynn Kurtz and husband Wes of Miles City; two step-sons, Jeff Wagner and wife Teri of Laurel, and Jody Wagner of Minneapolis; a brother, James Mansheim and wife Diane of Colome, S.D.; five grandchildren, Matthew, Kaleb, McKayla, Alec and Brandon; and a niece and nephew, Chris and Monica.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Vickie Miller
BUFFALO, Wyo. – Vickie Hatzenbuhler Miller, 33, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper from injuries in an automobile accident.
Visitation will be from the Adams Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, from the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Mt. Pisgah cemetery in Gillette.
Thomas M. Mitchell
TOSTON – Thomas Michael Mitchell, 55, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 3, in the Broadwater High School gymnasium. Interment will be in Deep Creek cemetery. Connors Funeral Home is in charge.
James L. Nichols
THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. – James Lee Nichols Jr., 75, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at Mortimore Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Monument Hill cemetery with military rites.
Donna J. Reeves
COLUMBIA FALLS – Donna J. Reeves, age 57, Columbia Falls, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2000 at Brendan House in Kalispell.
She was born Feb. 10, 1943, in Red Lodge to William D. and Peggy Harrison. She was raised and educated in Roberts and Billings. She graduated from high school in Billings.
She worked at the Glacier Christian School and the Dairy Queen for several years. She later worked at the Pines Cafe in Columbia Falls. She also volunteered her work at the concession stand at the baseball fields.
She was married
to George Payovich. She was later married
to Charles L. Reeves.
Donna loved bowling, country music, rodeos, acrylic painting, games, and her dog, Precious.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Fred.
Donna is survived by four children, George Payovich of Billings, Kirk Payovich of Billings, Vickie Robison of Stevensville, Chuck Reeves of Columbia Falls; six grandchildren, Lana Payovich, Cherl Payovich, Trevor Payovich, Chelsie Payovich, Zachery Robison, and Kiara Reeves; two sisters, Dollie Grice of Ballantine, and Bonnie Minto of Missoula; four nieces and three nephews.
A graveside service will be held Monday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn cemetery in Columbia Falls.
Columbia Mortuary in Columbia Falls is in charge of arrangements.
Nathan Shaw
TUCSON, Ariz. – Nathan Shaw, 26, was killed May 1, 2000, in a train/pedestrian accident in Tucson. He was born July 3, 1973, in Spokane and grew up in the Missoula area. He was the grandson of former Billings resident Dollas Carlson and the late Harry Carlson.
Cremation has taken place and memorial graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, August 4, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Billings.
Donna Lee ‘Moos’ Skeesick
MOSES LAKE, Wash. – Donna Lee Skeesick went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 27, 2000, after a battle with cancer. Donna was born on April 30, 1954, in Hardin, Mont. She is the daughter of Edgar and Wilma Moos of Moses Lake, the sister to Jim Moos of Washington, D.C., and Allen Moos of Billings.
Donna grew up in Hardin, Mont. She graduated from Hardin High School in 1972. From there she went to Seattle until 1980. She then moved to Moses Lake and attended Big Bend Community College. She graduated from Big Bend in 1983.
Donna was a devoted wife to Craig. They were married
on June 17, 1983, and resided in Moses Lake. Their children are Tanya Avena of Bothell, Wash., Shawnette Reach of Tacoma, Wash., Christine Funk of Ellensburg, Wash., Tiffany Meridth of Spanaway, Wash., and Thorn Dane Skeesick of Moses Lake. Their grandchildren are Taryn, Sayer, Jadyn, Mykaila, Isabella, Charlee, and Alex.
Donna loved to do crafts, collect angels, do for others and always lifted up others less fortunate or having hard times. Her fun loving, caring and thoughtfulness was appreciated by all that surrounded her.
Adding to the richness of Donna’s family were her sisters-in-law, Peggy, Marianne, Andrea, Terry and Kathy; her in-laws, Darrel and Marion Skeesick; brothers -in-law, Lon, Jeff, and Mark; sons-in-law, Mark Avena, Bill Reach, Matt Funk, and Mike Meridth.
Donna will not be forgotten by the many who were touched by her life.
Memorial services will be Monday, Aug. 7, at the Moses Lake Alliance Church, 1100 N. Grape Dr. There will be a reception following at the church. Rather than flowers, Donna requested that donations for a student scholarship fund be made to an account at Bank of America.
Donna appreciated so much all the love, support and encouragement that you all gave through this journey of her life.

Raymond D. Smith
Raymond D. Smith, 81, of Billings, met his wife, Alvina, Aug. 1, 2000. He died peacefully at his son-in-law and daughter’s home.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, George and Minnie Smith and all his siblings.
Daddy enjoyed gardening, fishing, cards and his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. Daddy enjoyed life and always had a smile.
Daddy was a veteran of the Army and served his country during WWII.
He leaves behind his children, Bud (Jan) Smith, Carol (Don) Critelli, Bonnie (David) Booth, and Michael Smith.
We love you, Daddy.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, Eighth and St. Johns.
Inurnment will be at the Absarokee Beartooth Columbium in the Gallery.
Donations may be made to the Heart Association or Big Sky Hospice.

CODY, Wyo. – Memorial service for Judy A. Stricker who passed away Sunday, July 23, 2000, will be Thursday, Aug. 3, at the Victory Fellowship Church.
Inurnment will be in West Lawn cemetery in Gering, Neb.
Robert ‘Red’ Svingen
GLASGOW – Robert Edward “Red Marcus Svingen, 78, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, of cancer at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Aug. 4 at the First Lutheran Church.
Interment will be in Private cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

RYEGATE – James G. Todd, 75, died July 26, 2000, at his home in Hamilton.
Interment was in Billings at 1:30 p.m. July 31, at Mountain View cemetery.
