PLENTYWOOD – Esther Gabrielson, 89, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 21, at Plentywood Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Plentywood Memorial cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.
Eileen Walrich Gibson
COTTONWOOD, Ariz. – Eileen Walrich Gibson passed away at her home Wednesday, Aug. 16, of cancer.
Eileen was born May 17, 1923, to Edward and Ida Walrich in LaMoure, N.D. On May 7, 1947, she married
Robert Gibson Jr. of Billings. They made their home in Billings for many years and moved to Cottonwood in June, 1999.
Eileen is survived by her loving husband, Robert “Bob”; four sisters, Florence Hohn, Eleanor Redmond and Caroline Walburn, and Delores Anstett of Big Timber, Mont.; numerous nieces and nephews and very close friends of many years.
Eileen was a devout Christian, and though she will be sadly missed, we shall take comfort in knowing she is now in the loving arms of her Lord.
Cremation has taken place. Services will be held Friday, Aug. 18, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 421 N. Willard St., Cottonwood, Ariz.
Memorials may be made to the Northern Arizona Hospice, 269 S. Candy Lane, Cottonwood, AZ 86326, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, or the charity of ones choice.
Hal D. Hart
LOVELL, Wyo. – Hal D. Hart, 49, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, of injuries sustained in an accident.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, in the Lovell LDS Church. Family visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the church. Haskell Funeral Home of Lovell is in charge.
Josh Allan Meredith
BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Josh Allan Meredith, 24, passed away Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, the result of a hiking accident.
Josh was born in Baker, Mont., on Nov. 23, 1975, later moving to Forsyth, Mont., Woodbridge, Va., and then on to Bozeman, Mont., at age 8. Josh graduated from Bozeman High School in 1994. Following graduation, Josh worked as a silk screener and shipper at Lifelink until January of 1999 when he moved to Bellingham., where he worked as a bartender and short order cook at Grandstands Sports Bar.
Josh had a tremendous love for the outdoors, spending all his spare time golfing, skiing, biking, hunting, fishing and hiking. Josh truly touched the hearts of everyone he came into contact with. His contagious smile, his warm hugs, his positive attitude and his love for his family, friends and life were his trademark. No one will ever replace him, but we will all remember him with smiles in our hearts and loving memories. We are all better for having known the special person we knew in Josh and he will be so very missed.
Josh is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Ann Scheidt. Josh is survived by his father, Roger Meredith of Bozeman; his mother, Charlene Berdahl of Forsyth; three sisters, Shawna (Meredith) Purdon of Okinawa, Japan, Shana Meredith of Forsyth, and Chelsie Meredith of Forsyth; two nephews, one niece and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and more friends than most of us will know in a lifetime.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m. at the Bozeman United Methodist Church, 121 S. Willson Ave. Interment will follow in Sunset Hills cemetery. Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. Memorials in Josh’s name may be made to Big Brothers and Sisters of Gallatin County, 15 S. 8th Ave., Bozeman, MT 59715.
Ella May Schessler
Ella May Schessler, 94, of Billings, passed away Thursday morning, Aug. 17, 2000, at St. John’s Lutheran Home. She was born May 4, 1906, in Kulm, N.D., the daughter of Arthur and Katherine Koenig.
Ella married
Theodore Schessler in November of 1926 and had four children. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, one daughter, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her sister, Violet Haines; her daughter, Jacqueline Peterson; four grandchildren, Patti Conroy, Toni Aronson, Barbara Schessler and Gordon Schessler; three great-grandchildren, Kirby and Kourtney Conroy, and Danelle Aronson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, August 2l, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist. Private interment will be in the Park City cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Home, 3940 Rimrock Rd., Billings, MT 59102 or the charity of one’s choice.
Stacie A. Simshaw
GLASGOW – Stacie A. Simshaw, 94, died Aug. 15, 2000, of natural causes at Valley View Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21, at the Bell Chapel in Glasgow. Interment will be in Butte, N.D.
Minnie Lee Wallace
LIVINGSTON – Minnie Lee Wallace, 95, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Livingston Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home. Graveside committal and interment will follow in Mountain View cemetery.
Tod Wilder
SIDNEY – Louis Warren “Tod” Wilder, 82, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at his home.
Wake services will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel in Sidney. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at the St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will be in the Sidney cemetery.
Ellis Allman
Ellis Allman, 91, passed away Monday, Aug. 14, at Grand Park Assisted Living in Billings.
He was born in Craig, Saskatchewan, to Irving and Clara Allman on Oct. 21, 1908, raised in the Grain Community near Nashua, and attended school at Grain and in Glasgow.
He married
Ruth Fossen on May 15, 1937, in Glasgow where they lived until 1941. In 1942, they moved to Wolf Point where he worked for Ford Motors until he started farming in 1944. In 1964, they moved to the Grain Community and remained there until retirement in 1976.
From 1976-1998 they summered at Fort Peck and wintered in Mesa, Ariz. Due to his poor health the past two years, they’ve lived at Grand Park in Billings.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; son, Mark of Spring Valley, Calif.; daughters, Sandi (Jerry) Wyrzykowski of Billings, MaryLou (Roy) Wahlberg of Polson; grandchildren, Corby and Craig Allman, Jonathan Wyrzykowski and Amy Hand; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Albright of California and brother, Neil of Washington, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and a daughter; one sister and six brothers.
A memorial service will be held in Wolf Point at First Lutheran Church on Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. with inurnment at Greenwood cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Big Sky Hospice, Billings; Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital, Glasgow or to a charity of one’s choice.
Cremation has taken place at Cremation or Funeral Gallery of Billings.
James H. ‘Jim’ Burnett
LUTHER – James H. “Jim” Burnett, age 83, of Luther, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at the Intermountain Burn Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born July 1, 1917, at the Burnett Ranch in Luther, the son of James M. and Eda Burnett. He attended local schools before attending aviation training in Nebraska in 1935. Jim joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and was released from active duty in World War II in 1945. He remained in the Air Force Reserve with a primary duty as air intelligence staff officer.
As a major at the Air Force Academy, he served as a liaison officer. Following 39 months of service during World War II, Jim returned to the ranch at Luther. He never lost his love for flying, holding a partnership in an airplane, and remained an active pilot until late in life.
On Dec.12, 1941, Jim married
his sweetheart, Alice E. “Betty” Boggio in Billings. Three children were born to this union: James Dwight, Joy Gunnells of Lakewood, Colo., and Diane Jones of Billings.
One of Jim’s truly unique accomplishments was his successful cross-breeding of buffalo with Hereford cattle, first known as cattalo, later called beefalo or bison hybrids. Jim accomplished the impossible according to many scholars of genetics. It happened in the summer of 1965, when a male 3/4 buffalo was born that turned out to be fertile. His name was 903,
In addition to ranching, he was active in civic affairs serving in the Montana House of Representatives from 1969 to 1982, non-consecutively, and the Montana Senate from 1991 to 1998. Jim Burnett truly went the extra mile in service to his community, serving not only as a bank director of the U.S. National Bank since 1958, but also serving as a member for National and State Bison Association, Montana Stockgrowers, Farm Bureau, Luther grade school and Red Lodge High School boards, Airport Board, Carbon County Memorial Hospital Board, Inquiry Club, Rotary, Eastern Star, VFW, Masons, and as secretary to the Weast Ditch Company. Jim was an active member of the Luther Community Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters, Joy Gunnells, Diane Jones (Cliff); and three sisters, Leota Rozman (John) and Lucille Stohr (Martin) of Alamada, Calif., and Wilma Boggio (Henry) of Luther; and seven grandchildren, Branden DeVries of Palo Alto, Calif., Tana O’Donnell (Kelly) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Leah Gunnells of Tacoma, Wash., Lisa, Spencer, Crystal and Candace Jones, all of Billings; and one great-grandchild, Cheyenne O’Donnell; numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James M. and Eda Burnett, and a son, James Dwight Burnett.
Jim Burnett will be greatly missed not only by his immediate family but by all whose paths he crossed. “I am bound to live up to the light I have. I must stand with anyone who stands right, stand with him while he is right and part with him when he goes wrong.”
Funeral services wilt be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Red Lodge Community Church, 308 S. Broadway. Interment will follow at the Burnett Ranch. The Olcott Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Ethel Alma Harrison
POWELL, Wyo. – Ethel Alma Harrison, age 90, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at the Powell Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 25, 1909, in Concordia, Kan., the daughter of Albert Lewis and Lena Mary Ponton Caraveau.
Ethel attended elementary and secondary school in Kansas and attended nursing school in Concordia. She came to Powell in 1928. On June 10, 1929, Ethel married
Earl E. Harrison in Billings. Mr. Harrison preceded her in death on April 8, 1976, in Powell.
Ethel worked as a practical nurse for the Powell Hospital for over 20 years. She enjoyed sewing, fishing and camping and was a member of the Senior Citizens Kitchen Band. Ethel was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Star Club and the Rebekah Lodge. She was a member and secretary of the Big Horn Basin Boat Club for many years.
Her survivors include a daughter and her husband, Joan and Tom Bosch of Worland; a son and his wife, Neil and Vernice Harrison of Powell; six grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Ethel Alma Harrison will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at Union Presbyterian Church of Powell with Rev. David Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in Crown Hill cemetery.
Sheila Marie Jordan
LIVINGSTON – Sheila Marie Jordan, 29, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Livingston Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at Holbrook United Methodist Church. Graveside committal and interment will follow in Mountain View cemetery. Franzen-Davis Funeral Home is in charge.
Mary Kathryn Kaldun
LAUREL – Mary Kathryn Kaldun, 74, of Laurel, went to be in the arms of Jesus after passing away Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital from an apparent cerebral hemorrhage. She was born April 13, 1926, in Bilford, Iowa, the daughter of James Ivan and Ferol Esther Holcomb Merryman.
The family moved to Algona, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. She had lived in Fort Lauderdale for a while where she worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Ann’s Hospital. She moved to Minnesota where she married
Gideon Kaldun. He passed away, and she moved to Billings to live near her sister, Eleanor, and was employed at Deaconess Hospital as a payroll clerk.
She loved life and enjoyed crocheting, needle work, handcrafts, especially doing Peace Quills for the church.
Survivors include two sisters, Connie (Harold) Jergenson of Aurora, Colo., and Eleanor Dorn of Billings; and three brothers, Tom (Allie) Merryman of Onalaska, Wash., Keith (Alyce) Merryman of Buffalo, Minn., and David (Marion) Merryman of Algona.
Celebration of life will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the Family Christian Center, 1002 3rd St., Laurel. Pastor George Burgin will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Iowa. Arrangements were by Cremation or Funeral Gallery, Cremation Society of Montana.
Joy K. Perry
POWELL, Wyo. – Joy K. Perry, 74, died at her home.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, at the First United Methodist Church. Interment of cremains will be held at Fort Logan National cemetery, Denver. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge.
James L. Pridemore
BUTTE – James L. Pridemore, age 86, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at St. James Community Hospital in Butte.
He was born March 12, 1914, in Barbourville, Ky., to Jonathan Hasten and Julia Margarett (Prichard) Pridemore.
He originally came to Montana to work in the CC’s at Ballantine where he attended church and met Margaret E. Van Houten. They were later married
in Miles City on Nov. 14, 1945, where they ranched until coming to Butte where he worked in the Leonard Mine and later as a machinist at the Cat Bay for the Anaconda Company until his retirement in 1980.
He served in the 8th Army Air Corps in England during World War II. He was a longtime member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Pridemore, Butte; daughter and son-in-law, Chere and Robert Fugate, Butte; twin sister and brother-in-law, Ella and Calvin Smith, Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister-in-law, Gayle Kaiser, Butte; numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Custer cemetery, Custer, Mont. Memorial services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home.
