SHERIDAN, Wyo. – James Leonard DuBose, 57, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Vanessa Lynn Gardner
LODGE GRASS – Vanessa Lynn Gardner, 31, of Lodge Grass, died Sunday July 9, 2000 of injuries sustained in a one car accident near Sheridan, Wyo.
She was born March 30, 1969, in Crow Agency, a daughter of Billie Jean Old Bull. She received her education in the surrounding area and later attended the Haskell Junior College in Lawrence, Kan., and the Little Big Horn College in Crow Agency.
Vanessa was a loving mother who enjoyed basketball and spending time with her family, particularly her nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Pentecostal Church, Piegan Clan and a child of the Piegan Clan.
Survivors include her companion and friend Robert Shane and their son, Jay Cole Shane; and adopted daughter, Tristina Gardner; her mother, Billie Jean Old Bull; her father, William Gardner; seven sisters, Ursula Gardner of Billings, Ethel, Tina, Reva and Shellie Gardner of Lodge Grass, Nellie and Crystal Gardner of Crow Agency; six brothers, Greg Old Bul, Sr. of Missoula, Elvis Old Bull Sr. of Hardin, J.P. Eagle Feather of Crow Agency, Buster (Kathy) Gardner, Darrin Old Coyote and Jay Bird in Ground of Lodge Grass; her grandmothers, Virginia Covers Up and Mildred Old Crow; her grandfathers, Tex, Ralph and Al Good Luck, Bill Gros Ventre and Steve Yapuncich; four sisters, Deana La Forge, Martha DeCrane, Tara Medicine Top and Melanie Left Hand; 20 aunts, Alpha Old Coyote, Cheryl Jefferson, Clarise Medicine Crow, Tina Covers Up, Traci Dawes, Arbutus Covers Up, Roxanne Old Crow, Lauren Medicine Horse, Regina Gros Ventre, Jenny Big Day, Saravene Jefferson, Mavis Mountain Sheep, Serene Bishop, Geneieve Smells, Clarise Eagle Feathers, Ursula Bad Horse, Fatima Bad Horse, Betty Gardner and Nellie Long Horn; 16 uncles, Benedict, Frank, Tilton, Lawrence Sr., and Emmett Old Bull Sr., Woodson Far Away, Bernard, Manuel, Jack and Terrance Covers Up, Clayton and Leo Good Luck Jr., Tommy Gardner, Chester Nomee Sr. and Paul Bad Horse Jr..
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday in the Lodge Grass Catholic Church Gymnasium. Interment will follow in the Lodge Grass cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Roxy ‘Roxanne’ Michotte Tanous Hoggatt
Roxy passed away in her home on Sunday, July 9, 2000, in Billings. She was born in Billings on Feb. 22, 1942, to Robert and Connie Michotte. During her high school years at Senior High, she was highly involved in many activities including cheerleading, Worthy Advisor of Rainbow Girls and many other activities, graduating in 1960.
Roxy attended Colorado University then moved to California where she met and married
the late Ronald Tanous. After returning to Billings, she followed a career with the family glass business known as Michotte Glass and onto PPG and the last position held for 1/2 year was at the Cattle Company as your favorite Hostess /Waitress, greeting always with a smile. Married to Ray Hoggatt in 1986, Roxy has touched the lives of many, not only with her cheerful personality, but also her great sense of humor.
Roxy took great pride in her home and family and was always a hard worker. She enjoyed bowling, cooking, camping, traveling, and most of all relaxing at her brother Carl’s cabin on the Stillwater River and spending time with her granddaughter.
Roxy was preceded in death by her father, the late Robert Carl Michotte of Billings.
Survivors are her husband, Ray; mother, Connie Symmes of Billings; son, Mark Tanous of Calif., granddaughter, Kaytlyn Tanous of Calif.; daughter, Heather Tanous of Billings; brothers, Wally (and Pam) Michotte of Calif., Carl (and Jane) Michotte of Billings, Larry (and Karen) Symmes of Florida; children of Ray include Erika of Missoula, Shana of Portland and Dan of Billings; also, two nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. W., Thursday, July 13, at 3 p.m. with committal following at Mountview cemetery. Memorials may be made in Roxy’s name to Big Sky Hospice, 123 S. 27th St., Billings, MT 59101 or to American Cancer Society Montana Division, P.O. Box 1080, Billings, MT 59108-1080.
Theodore ‘Ted’ Kountz
TERRY – Theodore ‘Ted’ Allen Kountz, 87, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2000, at the Prairie Community Medical Assistance Center.
He was born Feb. 7, 1913 in Dawson County (now McCone County), a son of Joseph H. and Maude Claridge Kountz. He grew up on the family homestead in the Watkins area and at the age of 10 began work for the 44 Ranch on Timber Creek. He worked on the ranch until it went bankrupt, then worked on various ranches in the area.
Ted married
Ann Kuehl on Jan. 31, 1933 in South Dakota and the couple later moved to Montana where he worked on the construction of the Ft. Peck Dam. His work history took him to the Flowing Well ranch 33 miles east of Jordan, where he farmed and ranched. In 1948, he began working from the Montana Highway Department, retiring in 1972 while continuing to ranch. He owned and operated the Timber Creek coal mine, during this time. In 1952, he purchased a farm on the Big Dry Creek in Garfield County and farmed until retiring from farming in 1993. He and his wife moved to Terry to enjoy their retirement.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Glendive, Montana Public Employee Association and a member of the Van Norman School board for several years.
Ted was a hardworking farmer-rancher. He usually had two jobs and sometimes three including working for the Montana Highway Department and running a coal mine. He made friends easily and enjoyed them. He was known for helping anyone in need, e.g.; it was not unusual for him to bring a traveler home, “put them up”, fix their disabled car if they had one, or give them money and a ride if they had neither. He received citations from the Highway Department for these acts of kindness. He especially loved and enjoyed his grandchildren. He touched all of their lives. They learned much from helping him and observing him, especially the care and respect of their animals.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol; a son, Jerry and a grandson, Dick; one brother, Jack Kountz, and two sisters, Blanche Johnson and Mary Diebel.
Survivors include his wife, Ann of Terry; two daughters, Marguerite Bickel and Karin Kountz; six sons, Frank (Jill), Paul (Linda), Ron (Donna), Bill (Becky), Jim (Sharlyn) and Jonathan (Connie) Kountz; one sister, Alfretta Ofstedal; one brother, Jim (Ruby) Kountz; 25 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a very special daughter in law, Carol (Babe) McDonald; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Friday, July 14, at the Terry School Gymnasium. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 14, in the Gymnasium. Cremation will follow in the Bullis-Graves Eastern Montana Crematory. Private inurnment will follow at a later date. Bullis-Graves Memorial Chapel of Miles City has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Luella Mae Luke
LEWISTOWN – Luella Mae Luke, 80, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at the Central Montana Medical Center of natural causes.
Memorial services will be at a later date. Cremation has taken place. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge.
Amelia McLeod
GLASGOW – Amelia McLeod, 86, died Friday, July 7, 2000, of natural causes at the Valley View Home.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at the Faith Lutheran Church. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Plentywood cemetery in Plentywood. Bell Mortuary in Glasgow is in charge.

MILES CITY – Lydia G. Meidinger, 90, passed away Friday, July 7, 2000, at the Eagle Manor in Miles City.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 11, from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. James Mavis officiating. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, in the family plot of the Marsh cemetery in Marsh, Mont.
Lloyd Naylor
COLUMBUS – Lloyd Naylor, age 78, of Columbus, left this world to walk the Streets of Gold on July 9, 2000, after a courageous bout with cancer.
He was born in Gallatin Gateway, Mon., on May 18, 1922, to John and Elizabeth Naylor. He was the youngest of three children.
Lloyd married
May Durham in December of 1944. She passed on in February of 1947. He then married
Jane Rucker in April of 1948, and they divorced in 1977. In Dec. 1, 1979, Lloyd married
Frances Logan. She passed in June of 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, May Durham Naylor and Frances Logan Naylor; his sons, Daniel Keith Naylor and John Robert Naylor.
He is survived by his sisters, Joy Rykman of Helena; Violet Sorte of Seattle; his children, Wanda (Duane) Mize of Emmett, Idaho, Bonnie (Kirby) Bellamy of Billings, David Carl Naylor of Columbus, Sherry Jo (Larry) Riddle of Columbus; grandchildren, Calvin Mize (Tiffanny Bradley), Jason Mize, Wendy Mize, Kodi Mize (David Quenzer), all of Emmett, Idaho; Brandon, Katie, and Kara Bellamy of Billings, Mont.; Misty Naylor of Afton, Okla.; Jessica Naylor of Columbus, Mont.; Ciara and Jessy Riddle of Columbus; great-grandchildren include Jordon, Austin, and Chelsea Mize, and Ashlee Bradley, all of Emmett, Idaho; and Kyle Lee Kirby of Afton, Okla. He is also survived by his very special friend, Dorothy Gillespie of Manhattan, Mont.
Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 13, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Columbus. Interment will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Sunset Hills cemetery in Bozeman. Visitation will be from 5 - 9 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Chapel in Columbus. MALTA – Henry R. Paul, 85, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at his home of natural causes.

Ethel Roberta Phillips
LIVINGSTON – Ethel Roberta Phillips, 98, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at Frontier Personal Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home. Ritualistic services will be held at the funeral home by members of Orient Chapter No. 6, Order of Eastern Star. Graveside committal and interment will follow in Mountain View cemetery.
Eloise B. Reed
LEWISTOWN – Eloise B. Reed, 94, a Central Montana Homemaker passed away peacefully in her home west of Stanford on Surprise Creek in the shadow of Butte Thursday evening, July 6, 2000.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15, in the Benchland cemetery. Cremation has taken place. The Cloyd Funeral Home of Lewistown was in charge of arrangements.
Mildred Snyder Richardson
LOVEL, Wyo.– Mildred Snyder Richardson passed away Sunday, July 9, 2000, in the New Horizons Care Center in Lovell, Wyo.
Mildred was born in Bird Island, Minn., Feb. 18, 1903.
Mildred graduated from Mankato State Teachers College in 1923. She accepted a job teaching in Lovell, Wyo., that same year. She married
William B. Snyder in 1925. To this union were born four children. William B. Snyder died in 1948. In 1950, Mildred married
Fenwick P. Richardson. Fenwick died in 1974.
Mildred was a 50-year member of the Lovell Woman’s Club. She was also a member of the Episcopa1 Church and various bridge clubs.
She is survived by her four children: Jack O. Snyder of Forsyth, Mont., Helen V. Snyder of Ojai, Calif., Robert L. Snyder and wife, Dolores of Cody, Wyo., Sylvia J. Batenhorst and husband, Herman of Basin, Wyo.; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held July 12, at 1 p.m. at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell. Interment will be in the Lovell cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Town of Lovell Beautification Committee and the Mural Park in care of the Bank of Lovell, 179 E. Third, Lovell, WY 82431.
Matt Simpson Jr.
THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. – Matt Simpson Jr., 78, died on Sunday, July 9, 2000, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, at Mortimore Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Monument Hill cemetery with military honors by the VFW Post No. 2281.
Albert Russell Wendland
GREYBULL, Wyo. – Albert Russell Wendland, 96, died on Sunday, July 9, 2000, at the Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, in the Hillside cemetery in Greybull. Visitations have been set for Tuesday (today), for 4 - 8 p.m. at the Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull.
Alice Marie Ayers
HELENA – Alice Marie Ayers passed away in Helena on July 7, 2000. She was the only child of Charles and Nan Glancy and was born in Portland, Ore., Sept. 14, 1910. Upon the death of her mother in 1924, she moved to Lewistown and lived with her aunt, Mrs. Annie Crowley.
Almy attended junior high and Fergus County High School graduating in 1929. After graduation she attended Lewistown Business College for a year and a half She moved to Washington DC and worked for the Department of Agriculture and the Resettlement Administration. In 1937 she returned to Montana and worked in Helena for the Montana Liquor Control Board.
On July 16, 1938, she married
R. Donald Ayers in Lewistown and lived there until 1952 when she and Don moved to Grass Range and managed the ranch of her husband’s father, former Governor Roy E. Ayers. Don and Almy later purchased the ranch. In 1967, they moved back to Lewistown for their retirement years. Don passed away in Lewistown in Oct. 1993 and Almy moved to Helena in 1997.
Almy was active in community affairs in many organizations. She was a charter member of the Grass Range Timesavers Extension Homemakers, Precinct Committeewoman for Grass Range, a Cub Scout leader for the Grass Range troop and a Brownie Scout leader in Lewistown. She served as President of several groups, the PTA in both Grass Range and Lewistown, American Cattlewomen (Cowbells), Lewistown Garden Club, Fergus County Extension Homemakers Council, and Pink Ladies Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Board of Directors. Almy always belonged to several card clubs and thoroughly enjoyed being a homemaker.
Her daughter, Andrea Ayers of Helena; her son, Wayne (Don) Ayers of Great Falls; five grandchildren, Lee and Casey Ayers, Lauren Donohue, and Jason and Brian Moody; and one great grandchild, Blake Moody, survive her.
Chapel services will be held in Lewistown, at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 13 at Cloyd Funeral Home.
