Mattie Haughian
SPEARFISH, S.D. – Mattie Haughian, age 65, of Spearfish, formerly of Colstrip, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at the Davis M. Dorsett Health Care Center in Spearfish after a long fight with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Mattie was born in Owensboro, Ky., on Feb. 14, 1935, the daughter of Louie and Evelyn Hamill. When Mattie was three, along with her family she moved from Owensboro to Bridger, Mont., where she grew up and was educated.
Following her schooling, Mattie was united in marriage to Alexander “Nander” Haughian on Sept. 5, 1953., in Red Lodge, Mont. Mattie and Nander lived in different places around the Miles City and Forsyth communities, and in 1972, they moved to Colstrip. During the time in Colstrip, Mattie and Nander owned several businesses. In 1985, they retired and moved to Custer, S.D., and later to the Dorsett Health Care Center. Nander passed away on April 25, 1996.
Manie enjoyed watching her daughters play sports, gardening, growing flowers, and she especially enjoyed her family and will be missed by all.
Mattie is survived by four daughters, Cynde Hogdes and her husband Pat of Clatskanie, Ore., Mary Holzwarth and her husband Mike of Colstrip, Bobbie Haughian and her special friend Genio Lee of Columbus, Ohio, and Kellye Thompson and her husband Devan of Spearfish, S.D.; and six grandchildren, Alexanderia Hogdes, D.J. Thompson, Scott Hogdes, Sammie Holzwarth, Autumn Hogdes, and Darian Thompson.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, July 17, in the Saint Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church in Colstrip. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, in the Saint Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church in Colstrip. Rite of Committal will follow at 4 p.m. in the family lot in the Calvary cemetery in Miles City. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Forsyth is in charge of the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Jack Kuzara
BUFFALO, WYO. – Jack Kuzara, 77, died suddenly at his home on July 2, 2000.
Memorial services will be held t 11 a.m. on Sept. 6, at the Pine Island Picnic Area off Highway 14 above Sheridan. Directions to the area are available by calling the Adams Funeral Home at (307) 684-2251.

Alice McIntyre
SIDNEY – Alice McIntyre, 83, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care Facility.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Sidney cemetery.

Stella Moths
MILES CITY –Stella Moths, 91, died Wednesday, July 11, 2000, at the Friendship Villa Care Center.
Visitation will begin Tuesday. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery.

Ruth Marie Norton Olson
WORTHING, S.D. – Ruth Marie Norton Olson, of 212 W. 2nd St., Worthing, formerly of Billings, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, July 13, 2000, following a prolonged illness.
The daughter of Raymond “Pete” and Maurine Norton was born in Mobridge on Nov. 21, 1948. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, but her greatest joy were her grandchildren. She met her husband, John, in 1995 and later married him on Feb. 5, 2000, and they made their home in Worthing.
She was preceded in death by her father and first husband, Larry James Burkhardt Sr.
Grateful for having shared her life are: her beloved and caring husband, John; mother, Maurine Norton of Billings; son, Larry Burkhardt and wife, Tommi of Sioux Falls; daughter, Ruth Specht and husband, Jeff of Billings; three brothers, Bruce Norton and wife, Cheri, Marlin Norton and wife, Leah, Curtis Norton of Billings; sister, LuAnne Coley and husband, Marty of Billings; two grandsons, Jeffrey Specht of Billings, Derrick Burkhardt of Sioux Falls; two granddaughters, Ryan and Tyler Burkhardt of Sioux Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin at 4 p.m. Monday, July 17, at Heritage Funeral Home with burial of cremains on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. in Woodlawn cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the Heritage Funeral Home. Memorials services will be held in Billings on Thursday, July 20, at 3 p.m. at Smiths Downtown Chapel.

Timothy B. ‘Tim’ Parry
LEWISTOWN – Timothy B. “Tim” Parry, 38, of Lewistown passed away at his home on Thursday, July 13, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born June 19, 1962, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lewistown, the son of Bob and Margo Parry. He lived and attended school in Lewistown until 1973. He moved to Cheadle and graduated from Grass Range High School in 1980.
Tim trucked for Bud Dengel for a year and then was the gravel crusher operator for Bill Dengel Construction up until the time of his illness. On June 20, 1987, he married his loving wife, Kathy Cline, in Big Sandy.
Tim loved spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and camping with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy and children, Kelsey, Marie, and Kyle Kristopher, all of the family home; his parents, Bob and Margo of Lewistown; one brother, Joel and his wife, Ronelia of Glasgow; grandmother, Ellen Kelly of Lewistown; and mother-in-law, Jeanette Cline of Big Sandy; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Sarah Chapin, fraternal grandfather, Patrick Kelly, father- in-law, Marvin Cline and nephew, Sean Figarelle.
Funeral services for Tim Parry will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the Cloyd Chapel with interment to follow in the Lewistown City cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may make memorials to the Kelsey and Kyle Parry Memorials Education Trust, and they may be left at the Cloyd Funeral home.
Tim will be missed by all his family and friends.

Jay Roberts
LAMBERT – Funeral services for Jay Roberts, 94, of Lambert, were held Friday morning at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Lambert with Pastor Lyle Beans presiding. Interment was in the Lambert cemetery, under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Jay died at his daughter’s home early Tuesday morning, July 11, 2000, in Kennedy, Minn.
Jay William Roberts was born in Pryor, Okla., on March 29, 1906, the son of Charles and Maud (Cullup) Roberts. His family moved to Montana in 1910 and homesteaded in the Lambert area. On June 7, 1931, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Hull at Sidney. The couple farmed and ranched in the Lambert area until their retirement in 1978. Gertrude passed away in 1980. Jay moved to Hallock, Minn., in June of 1999, and in November he moved into his daughter’s home at Kennedy.
He was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church at Lambert.
Jay was an avid horseman all his life. Even during his active years of ranching and farming, he always had time to train and ride his homes. Music was a lifetime enjoyment especially after retirement. After his sight was restored through surgery, his reading interests accelerated. He was able to maintain his touch with family and friends through visits, telephone calls, letters and cards to his last hours with us. He was a quiet unassuming gentleman and he will be greatly missed by all.
Family members include two sons, Eugene (Vera) Roberts and David (Paul) Roberts all of Lambert; two daughters, Barbara (Oliver) Lundell, of Kennedy, and Adele (Jerry) Trier of Phoenix; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Erickson of Malta; and a brother, Wayne (Norma) Roberts of Polson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gertrude; three sisters, Ethel Roberts, Mabel Frettim and Evelyn Williams; and a brother, Clement.

Benjamin ‘Ben’ Weldon
Memorial services for Benjamin “Ben” Weldon, formerly of Billings, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 16, at The Perfect Place, 3603 O’Shea Circle, on Blue Creek, south of Billings. A reception will follow.

Robert Carl ‘Bob’ Wolff
Robert Carl “Bob” Wolff passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2000, in the Big Coulee south of Ryegate. He was working with his cattle, the thing he enjoyed most.
Bob was born March 3, 1932, in Rye-gate, the third son of George F. Wolff and Lois Merle Fowler Wolff
On Oct. 2, 1954, Bob married Bette M. Gordon in Billings where they made their home. Bob retired in 1987 after he worked 32 years as a driver/salesman for Consolidated Freightways. Bob then divided his time between Billings and caring for his head of Black Angus cattle in the Big Coulee.
Bob loved animals and could spend hours watching new calves run and play.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife, Bette; brothers, George (Dot) of Billings, James (Betty) of Cabot, Ark., and Darrell (Beverly) of Beach, N.D., as well as nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 17 at Smith Downtown Chapel. Interment of cremains will be at a later date at Mountview cemetery. Memorials to the Billings Food Bank, 2112 Fourth Ave. N. Billings, MT 59101.

Ruby Archer
MILES CITY – Ruby Archer, 91, died in her sleep Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at the Holy Rosary Extended Care following a short illness.
Visitation will begin on Saturday in Miles City. Prayer services will be held Saturday, July 15, at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 17, at 10 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Shore, S.D. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Lakeview cemetery in South Shore.

June Backen
June Backen, 41, of Billings (formerly of Libby), died Friday, July 7, at Deaconess Hospital in Billings. She was born June 11, 1959, at Shelby, to Elbert “Bud” Skillings and Hazel Hamlin Skillings. She come to Libby with her family in 1962 where she was raised and had attended school. She and her husband Joel had resided in Columbia Falls and Spokane before moving to Billings 10 years ago where she had been employed at Alternatives Inc. Pre-Release Center. She had particularly enjoyed traveling throughout the country in recent years.
Survivors include her husband, Joel of Billings; two daughters, Sarah Backen, United States Navy, Norfolk, Va., Kayla Backen of Billings; a son, Buddy Skillings of Kalispell; sisters, Lori DeShazer, Columbia Falls, Cory Snyder of Libby, and Nita McLaury of Seeley Lake; a brother, Jerry Skillings of Libby; half-sisters and brothers Pat Sorum of Auburn, Wash., Charlie Laasch of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Virgil Laasch of Cut Bank, Doris Cook of Troy, and Beauty Davis of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel in Libby with Pastor Darwin Scofield officiating. Local arrangements are by Smith Chapel in Billings.

James ‘Boone’ Erickson
WOLF POINT – James “Boone” Erickson died Monday, July 10, 2000, in Glendive.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, at the First Lutheran Church. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Henry M. Gutierrez
POWELL, Wyo. – Henry Manuel Gurierrez, 54, died on Tuesday, July 11, 2000, in Denver.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday, at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Powell. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. until time of the rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Crown Hill cemetery. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge.

A prayer service will be held Monday, July 17, at 7 p.m. in St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Colstrip. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 18, at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. in the family lot in the Calvary cemetery in Miles City.

Jerry Dean Hayes
OROVILLE, Calif. – Jerry Dean Hayes, 64, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at his home.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 17, at 9 a.m. in Memorial Park cemetery.

Mae Hofmeier
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Mae Hofmeier, 87, died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at Sheridan Manor.
Visitation will be held from 7 - 9 p.m. on Friday, July 14, at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, at Kane Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the new Masonic Lodge section of the Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

Martin R. Johnson
THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. – Martin Ross Johnson, 82, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at Allison Care Center in Lakewood, Colo.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 17, at 11 a.m. at Mortimore Funeral Home in Thermopolis. Interment will follow at Monument Hill cemetery.

Weldon ‘Slick’ Meyer
Weldon “Slick” Meyer passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, July 12, at the age of 83. He was born June 12, 1917, to Joseph and Lenora Meyer in Paynesville, Minn. The family farmed in Minnesota until their move to Billings in 1932.
Weldon graduated from Billings High School in 1936. After high school, Weldon pursued his love for music and the drums. He played with various bands in the nightclubs in and around Billings.
In 1941, he married Margaret Lucille “Cile” Palmersheim and together they had seven children. During his married life, Weldon worked at many different occupations including as shoemaker and a bartender at the Shamrock and Monte Carlo. He retired as the manager of the Knights of Columbus Club.
In his retirement, he pursued his love for woodworking. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, camping, and most especially watching his grandchildren in their sports activities.
Weldon is survived by his children and grandchildren, Barbara Kraft and her children, Sarah and Mark; Marlene (Mike) Moran and their son, Chad; Joe (Toni) Meyer and their sons, Andy, Adam, and Kevin; Debbie (Steve) Marshall and their children, Chris and Melissa; Janet (Mike) Maroncelli and their children, Dan and Jenny; Tom (Rhonda) Meyer and their children, Stefan and Sydney; one great-grandson, Kaden Meyer; his sisters, Irene Trudeau of Williamton, Mich., and Gladys Hall of Great Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gene; his son, David; his wife, Cile; his granddaughter, Katie Moran; and his son-in-law, Ed Kraft. Weldon has joined his family in heaven.
“Daddy and Grandpa, we love you, and we will miss you.”
A special thank you to Big Sky Hospice and especially Linda, Becky, and Ashley for all their help and support.
Weldon appreciated the help and care his granddaughter Sydney has received from the Shrine Children’s Hospital in Spokane. Memorials in his honor can be sent to Al Bedoo Shrine Temple in Billings or the St. Pius X Building Fund.
Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dahl Funeral Chapel. A Vigil Service will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Monday, 2 p.m. Rite of Committal will be at Holy Cross cemetery.

Jon Edward Mole
LARAMIE, Wyo. – Jon Edward Mole, formerly of Thermopolis, died on Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sheridan.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Ten Sleep. Champion Funeral Home is in charge.
