John Henry Berg Sr.
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Lord called home his servant, and our dear father, husband and friend, John, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, founder of Quail Run Insurance Agency, who always tried to treat his clients as he would like to be treated.
He proudly claimed Big Timber, Mont., as his hometown before migrating to Louisiana in the ’50s, seeking opportunity in the oil and insurance businesses. The Lord painlessly lifted him to heaven Friday, July 14, 2000, at 4:08 p.m. at Sharp Hospital in Chula Vista, Calif., after a gallant fight against liver cancer. He was 74.
After graduating from public schools in Montana, he attended the University of Montana and Yale University. He was a member of the elite U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps from 1944 to 1947. He was associated with many civic and voluntary groups, including past president of the Baton Rouge Bridge Club, Baton Rouge Ostomy Association and East Baton Rouge Lions Club. He truly enjoyed LSU sports and was a member of baseball’s coaches committee and LSU basketball’s 6th Man Club. His most cherished affiliation was his 27 years of sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous. He was quick to credit his wife, Joan, and AA for his recovery from alcoholism.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joan Price Berg; four sons, Mike of Vinton, John Jr. of Long Beach, Calif., Don of Baton Rouge and Ben of Long Beach; nine precious grandchildren, Shawn, Erin, Josh, John III, Erik, Christiana, Donnie, Alex and Brianna; four daughters-in-law, Amy, April, Susan and Rhonda; and six siblings, Tookie Gee and Arnold, Lloyd, Ben, Harry and Glen Berg, all of Montana. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Miller Berg; father, Henry Berg; and a brother, Richard Berg, who were from Montana.
Visiting at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, until memorial services at 3:15 p.m. in the Family Worship Center at Jimmy Swaggart Ministries on Bluebonnet Boulevard. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 24, at the Big Timber Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Louisiana Lions Handicapped Children's Camp, c/o East Baton Rouge Lions, P.O. Box 2463, Baton Rouge, LA 70821, or to a charity of choice.
Lora Morgan
LAVINA – On July 25, 2000, our beloved Mother went to be with the Lord. She was born on Dec. 30, 1918, to Rausa Boggs Ingram and L.W. Ingram. She had two brothers and one sister. They are Vada Fields, Estill Ingram and Coy Ingram.
Mom was born and raised at Linefork, Ky. She was married
there on Dec. 7, 1936. She was a Baptist and loved working for her children. She loved to embroider and for many years raised a prize winning garden.
Survivors are her ex-husband, Arnold Morgan; daughters, Betty Morgan, Joyce Rambo (Charlie), Bernice Day (Reno); sons, Pascal Morgan (Sue), and James Morgan; grandson, Patrick Day; granddaughter, Lisa Smith (Mark).
She will be cremated and a memorial service will be held for her in Kentucky at a later date with burial in the family cemetery.

O. Raymond Oleson
O. Raymond Oleson, 87, of Billings, passed away Tuesday morning, July 25, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital.
Raymond was born July 22, 1913, in Sheyenne, N.D., the son of Olaus and Gina Oleson. He grew up in Bremen, N.D., and received his diploma at Benson County Agriculture School in Maddock, N.D.
Raymond was interested in farming so he worked several years, through the summers and winters, until the drought and Depression. He changed his vocation to retail groceries in Minnewaukan, N.D., and later was affiliated with Gamble Skogmo Inc. in North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. Before retirement, Raymond served as authorized Gamble dealer zone manager with stores in Wyoming and Montana.
Mr. Oleson was an expediter of parts and equipment for the 331 Ordinance, U.S. Army, in New Guinea, Manila, Luzon, Philippines and the first occupational forces in Sundal, Japan. He was later called for duty in both Korea and the Yokohama, Japan, engineer depot as an outside storage supervisor.
Raymond was a past member of Billings Masonic Lodge, A.F & A.M., the 14th degree Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Billings Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
On Nov. 2, 1952, he married
Palma A. Morken and is survived by her, two nieces and a nephew. His parents, one sister and two brothers preceded him in death.
Cremation has taken place at the Smith Crematory. Memorials may be directed to the Christikon Lutheran Bible Camp or the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at 1108 24th St. W., Billings, MT 59102 or the charity of one’s choice. Smith Down-town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mildred Painter
Mildred Painter, 96, died Tuesday July 25, 2000, at Big Sky Care Center in Helena.
Resurrection Eucharist will be Friday July 28, 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Burial of the remains will be at the Columbarium in St. Peter’s Memorial Garden in Helena.
She is survived by her daughter and husband, Jean and William Bradford of Billings; son and wife, Dr. Robert and Grace Painter of Helena; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Aurelia L. ‘Rella’ Radke
Aurelia L. “Rella” Radke passed away early Wednesday morning, July 26, 2000, at Valley Health Care Center. Mrs. Radke had lived for 88 years.
Born in Zap, N.D., on March 12, 1912, Rella was the daughter of Fred and Sophie Lang. She graduated from high school in Zap and on June 2, 1930, married
John Radke in Golden Valley, N.D., where they lived until moving to Billings in 1953.
Rella went to work at the J.C. Penney store as a clerk in lay-away and later with the credit department before her retirement in 1972. An early member of Peace Lutheran Church, she enjoyed time spent in prayer and with the ladies from the church as they quilted blankets and shared stories.
Survivors include her son, Jim Radke, and a stepdaughter, Roberta Reed, both of Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Erna Klaudt and Alice Svatos; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Donald, two sisters and one brother.
Visitations will begin Friday morning at the Smith Downtown Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Steve Thulesen
MILES CITY – Steve Thulesen, 39, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Visitation will begin Sunday, July 30, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday in the chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 31, at Grace Bible Church. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery.
David Neal (Skorupa) Yates
BRIDGER – David Neal (Skorupa) Yates, 30, of Bridger, passed away July 24, 2000, at Bridger.
Pastor Ed Toenyes will officiate at a memorial service on Friday, July 28, at 2 p.m. in the Bridger United Methodist Church in Bridger.
Survivors are his father and stepmother, David John and Janet Skorupa of Billings; his mother and stepfather, Donna Fawcett Yates and Robert Yates of Creedmoor, N.C.; sisters, Jenee and Amy Skorupa of Billings, Robin McLain of Kissimmee, Fla.; and stepsister, Logan Koeklke of Billings, brother, Mark of Creedmoor; paternal grandparents, John and Alvina Skorupa of Bridger; an uncle, Larry Skorupa of Bridger, and numerous other relatives.
Dennis L. Burch
POWELL, Wyo. – Dennis L. Burch, 78, died on Monday, July 24, 2000, at the West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home in Powell. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home with interment to follow in Crown Hill cemetery.
John J. Harper
LEWISTOWN – John J. Harper, 52, died on Monday, July 24, 2000, in the VA Hospital in Denver after an extended illness.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Creel Funeral Home is in charge.
Kevin Joseph Hayes
GREAT FALLS – Kevin Joseph Hayes, 64, Great Falls, a retired carpenter, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, of a heart attack.
His funeral is 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wolf Point. A Rosary service will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. Clayton’s Funeral Home of Wolf Point is handling arrangements.
He was born Aug. 21, 1935, in North Dakota and attended schools in Vida and Poplar.
After serving in the U.S. Army, he returned to Montana in 1958 and spent many years as a carpenter in the Great Falls area. He worked the last 12 years as a carpenter in Seattle and retired in 1998, moving back to Great Falls.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge and enjoyed bowling and fishing.
Survivors include two daughters, Jill Hayes of Bozeman, and Janell Steele of Flagstaff, Ariz.; a son, Jim Steele of Great Falls; his mother, Josephine Hayes of Wolf Point; two brothers, Jim Hayes of Wolf Point and Claude Hayes of Scobey; a sister, Pat O’Brien of Roundup; and one grandchild.
Margaret Johanne (Restad) Pippin
Margaret Johanne (Rested) Pippin of Billings died July 22, 2000. Margaret was born Jan. 19, 1903, to Ole E. Restad and Fredrikke (Storre) in Minneapolis. Nine years later, she moved to Molt with her family.

“Ep” Pippin on March 19, 1930, in Red Lodge, and they made their home in Billings. Margaret is survived by her granddaughter, Leanne Ottem Dutton (Ernie); her beloved great-grandchildren, Carly, Katie and Cody Dutton; her son-in-law, Bill Ottem (Michelle);sister-in law and brother-in-law, Marie and Dutch Pippin. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert Lee Pippin; husband, Ep Pippin; sister, Nellie Billings; daughter, Joanne Pippin Ottem; grandson, Wade Ottem.
Gramma Margie – Thank you for your unconditional love. You will always be in our hearts and we know you are finally “Home.” Memorials in memory of Margaret Pippin may be made to Montana Rescue Mission, or to American Lutheran Church. A private service was held per Gramma Margie’s wishes. Dahl Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Irene ‘Rene’ Schierkolk
POWELL, Wyo. – Irene “Rene” Schierkolk, 77, died Monday at the Powell Nursing Home.
Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at a later date. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge.
Donald A. Sheperd
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Donald Allen Sheperd, 52, died Friday, July 21, 2000.
An open visitation will be held at Kane Funeral Home until 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 26. A military interment will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, at Willow Grove cemetery. A Wake will be held at the Bozeman Trail Inn following the service and all of Don’s friends are invited.
Jerry Teigen
CAPITOL – Jerry Teigen, 58, died on July 24, 2000, at his daughter’s home in St. Onge, S.D.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 28, in the Little Missouri Lutheran Church at Capitol. Interment will follow in the Little Missouri Lutheran cemetery. Stevenson Funeral Home of Ekalaka is in charge.
Muriel H. Thickman
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Muriel H. Thickman died at her home on Sunday, July 23, 2000.
No funeral services will be held. He body will be transferred to the Colorado State Anatomical Board. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.
Selma Marie (Beall) Webber
FRANNIE, Wyo. – Selma Marie (Beall) Webber of Frannie died peacefully in her sleep at the Powell Hospital on July 24, 2000. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 27, at the Deaver Methodist Church with the Rev. Patricia Greffey officiating. Burial will be at Deaver cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 26, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Miratsky Funeral Home.
Marie was born at Greencastle, Mo., on Jan. 23, 1915, the daughter of Vernie and Gladys Beall. In 1917, the family moved to Wyoming where Marie’s father homesteaded on the Shoshone Irrigation Project. Marie graduated from Deaver High School in May 18, 1933.
On July 25, 1934, Marie married
Ray Webber, and for 66 years the couple made their home at Frannie. Marie was an active member in the Deaver United Methodist Church where she served a number of years as Sunday School Superintendent and church treasurer. Marie also served as a 4-H leader for over 20 years, was active in the local garden and birthday clubs. In the last few years, she enjoyed the fellowship of her Bible Study group.
Marie is survived by her husband, Ray; her daughters, Rita Wambeke of Frannie, Valerie Hieb of Frannie, Sandy Belus of Sheridan; and son, Kurt of Bismarck, N.D.; and 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Edwin Beau; and one great-granddaughter. The family request that memorials be given to the Deaver United Methodist Church.
