Dale H. Zabel
MILES CITY – Dale Henry Zabel, 65, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at his home in Miles City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 16, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City.
Interment will follow in the family lot in Custer County cemetery.
Darlene ‘Granny’ Lucille Forsberg
SIDNEY – Funeral services for Darlene “Granny” Lucille (Shanks) Forsberg, 78, of Sidney, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Faith Alliance Church, with Pastor Paul Turek officiating. Interment will be in the Sidney cemetery under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Darlene “Granny” joined her only son, John R., and the Lord on Sunday afternoon, June 11, 2000, surrounded by her loved ones at the Sidney Health Center.
Darlene was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Comstock, Neb., to John and Linnie (McGavran) Shanks.
She grew up in Comstock on the family farm and graduated from Comstock High School in 1938.
She then attended teaching training at Kearney State Teaching College at Kearney, Neb., where she received her elementary teaching certificate.
In 1942, she moved to Alliance, Neb., where she worked as a hotel clerk.
It was here where she met the best looking man in uniform – the love of her life, Harold John Forsberg.
They were married
on Oct. 9, 1943, in Alliance, Neb.
To this union two daughters were born, Carol Jean, in 1944, Patricia Mae in 1945 and a son, John R. in 1947.
In 1951, she and the family moved to Crawford, Neb., where she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone company for over 10 years, operated and owned the local flower shop, and helped Harold at times at the filling station they owned.
She and Harold retired in 1978 and moved to Carson City, Mich., to be near one of her daughters.
She then decided she wasn’t ready to retire and began working at her son-in-laws medical office as insurance clerk.
In 1915, Darlene and Harold moved to Sidney, Mont., to be closer to her other daughter and son and all her grandchildren.
Darlene achieved many accomplishments in her life, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge for many years, where she held all offices and took pride in serving as Noble Grand for many years.
She also enjoyed her monthly Birthday Club gatherings and belonged to Mission Bend at Faith Alliance Church where she met some very special friends and found peace with the Lord.
Darlene loved life, she enjoyed traveling every year to spend time with family, she loved to cook and there wasn’t a day that supper wasn’t on the table at 5:00.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, knitting, crocheting.
She has made afghans for all her grandchildren.
Darlene’s greatest passion in life was her family.
She especially loved and cherished every minute she spent with her grandchildren, and a day didn’t go by that she didn’t talk to one of them.
She also enjoyed talking to her Furby babies every night before she went to bed.
Darlene was a very lovable, giving and spunky lady.
She made friends wherever she ventured and made hearts smile.
Darlene will always be loved and never forgotten.
Her memory and love will live on forever in those who knew her and loved her.
Darlene is survived by her love of her life, Harold of 56 years; two daughters, Carol Jean (Reginald) Wortman, MD, of Cookeville, Tenn., Patricia Mae Smith of Carson City, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Forsberg of Minot, N.D.; six grandchildren, Tracy (Paul) Denowh of Sidney, Mont., Lisa (Chris) Barnes, Shari Jackson, Corey (Timberly) Smith all of Carson City, Mich.; and Anthony and Jessica Forsberg of Minot, N.D.; nine great-grandchildren, Jamie and Casey Denowh of Sidney, Cody and Collin Barnes, Paige Jackson, Brooke Smith, Jeremy, Justin and Cody Carol all of Carson City, Mich.; one sister, Marcella Barnes of Laurel, Mont.; numerous brother-and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, John and Linnie; her only brother, Russell, an infant sister, and only one son, John R. Sidney.

Edward Morse
DENTON – Edward Lindsay Morse, 79, died of cancer early Saturday morning, June 10, 2000, in a Great Falls hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, at the Denton Community Methodist Church with burial in Hillcrest cemetery.
Cloyd Funeral Home of Lewistown is in charge of arrangements.
Bradley Alan Dittus
MILES CITY – Bradley Alan Dittus, 11, the son of Rick and J’nine Dittus of Miles City, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2000, at the Holy Rosary Health Care Center in Miles City.
Prayer services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with interment following in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery.
George William Parker
CODY, Wyo. – George William Parker, 76, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2000, at the V.A. Hospital in Sheridan, Wyo.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services are pending.
Eleanore Josephs
Our beloved mother, Eleanore Josephs, died Sunday, June 11, 2000 at St. Johns Lutheran Home, where she has resided for 9 years.
The daughter of Bernhard and Carrie Nelson, Eleanore was born in Superior, Wis., on April 22, 1902.
She was raised on a farm at Poplar, Wis., until she went to Normal School in Superior.
She taught school in Brule, Wis., where she met and married
Clarence Josephs in 1926.
They lived in Duluth, Minn., and moved to West Allis, Wis., in 1928, where they lived until 1973, when they moved to Billings.
Eleanore moved to St. Johns to be near Clarence; they were married
68 years before he passed away in 1994.
Born in the Post Victorian Era of the early 1900s, Eleanore’s life demonstrated the principles of work ethics – perseverance and loyalty which greatly influenced the future generations of her family.
In her mid-life, Eleanore was active in her church and was honored to be president of the Presbyterian Women’s Association in West Allis.
Her salads and desserts graced many a table at the church pot luck suppers.
Raised in a time of frugality, Mom will be fondly remembered for her saving habits: the endless balls of string, the boxes of rubber bands, and the grocery lists scribbled on backs of used envelopes, as well as her excellent Swedish cooking and her beautiful seamstress skills.
Generous of heart and a mainstay of her family, Eleanore was loving and forgiving and a true nurturer, everything a wife and mother should be.
She is survived by two daughters, Virginia (Jean) Barrett and husband, Edward of Red Lodge and Mary St. Michel and husband, Rick of Billings; six grandchildren: Karen Holdbrook of Red Lodge, Mark Barrett and wife, Kary of Missoula, Marie Barrett and husband, Keith Swenson of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Jace Barrett of Billings; Curtis St. Michel and wife, Whitney of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Cherie St. Michel of Washington, D.C.; great-grandchildren: Captian Jereme Barrett and wife, Misty at Incirlik A.F.B. at Adana, Turkey, Marine Private Luke Holdbrook of Camp Pendleton, Calif., and Amber Barrett of Helena, Mont.; and one great-great grandchild, Austin James Barrett.
Memorials may be made to St. Johns Lutheran Home.
Friends may gather at the mortuary before departing for the graveside services at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Elinor B. Johnson
SHEPHERD – Elinor B. Johnson, of the Shepherd community, died peacefully at home on Sunday evening, June 11, 2000.
A long-term cancer survivor, Elinor was first diagnosed with the disease in 1980.
The first child of Orville Kenneth and Thelma Stearns Bondy, Elinor Irene was born on June 26, 1937, in Midway, Mont.
Her mother recalls that it was 117 degrees in the shade that day, and there was no shade! Midway, a shanty town for workers on the Fort Peck (Montana) Dam project, was soon after destroyed during dredging for the dam’s construction.
Elinor attended schools in Fort Peck and Nashua, graduating from Nashua High in 1955.
She completed her college education in Billings.
She married
Paul G. (Buster) Johnson on August 26, 1956, and the couple settled and worked in the Billings area.
They raised two children.
Elinor was employed for many years in the oil refining industry of this city.
In the seventies, she partnered with a close friend in a successful secretarial service business and remained with that endeavor until illness forced her retirement.
Elinor was preceded in death by her father and her sister, Fritzie DuBeau.
Elinor is survived by her husband, Buster, and children, Paul Kristian Johnson (Becky) and Kathy Jo Lang (Mike), all of rural Billings.
Granddaughter, Brandi survives her along with her mother, Thelma (Sis) of Fort Peck; sister, Deanna Novotny (John) of Big Timber; brothers, Kenneth Bondy of Fort Peck and Dwayne Bondy of Billings; and brothers-in-law, Larry DuBeau and Jack Nickels Sr., both of rural Fort Peck.
Elinor was very fond of her large family clan, including numerous nieces and nephews, many uncles and aunts, including Alice Stearns, Rachel Koory, and Elinor Collins of Billings, and dozens of cousins.
She was fortunate in having many good friends.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, June 14, at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Shepherd with the Rev. Thad Person officiating.
The family requests memorials be given to Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107, or the favorite cause or charity of choice.
James Allen Huggins
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – James Allen Huggins, 71, died on June 8, 2000, in Gillette, Wyo.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, at Kane Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, at the Sheridan Wesleyan Church.
Interment will follow in the Story cemetery.
Clinton William Eubank
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Clinton William Eubank died Sunday, June 11, 2000.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, from St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
Ferries Funeral Home is in charge.
Gail Lenore Taylor
DAYTON – Gail Lenore Taylor, 97, died on June 10, 2000, at her home.
Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 15, at the family plot in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery.
John D. Ward
John D. Ward was born March 9, 1924, in St. Louis, Mo., a son of John and Cora Ward.
He died on Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in Billings at the age of 76.
John entered the army in 1943 where he repaired and serviced guns and other weapons in France, Belgium and Germany.
Following his discharge, he married
LaVestor Ward in Illinois.
They moved to Montana where John worked in masonry and together they raised their children, Arlene, Corinne, Darrell, and Alfred.
Later, he and Ruby Plainfeather of Pryor had three children together, Lionel, Kenny, and Fanny.
Later, John’s companion was Edith Finch.
He spent many years in the Billings area working as a cement mason and a truck driver.
John enjoyed fishing and spending time with friends..
He is survived by Arlene Manny of Fort Worth, Texas, Corinne Delaney of Denver, Colo., Darrell Ward of Yankton, S.D., Fanny Ward, Lionel Ward and Kenny (Joselyn) Ward all of Pryor, eight grandchildren and his good friends, Ben Boyd, Porter Conner, Gene Best and Carolyn LaFromboise, all of Billings.
His son, Alfred, preceded Mr. Ward in death.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, at the Smith Downtown Chapel.
Interment will follow at Mountview cemetery.
After the burial, a potluck dinner will be held at 2510 Seventh Avenue South for family and friends.
