ROUNDUP – Frances Zickovich, 90, left us on June 27, 2000, to reside with her precious Lord and Savior. Born Frances Racki to Josip and Augustine (Svob) Racki in Roundup on Aug. 10, 1909, she homesteaded with her parents, brothers and sister north of Roundup. She married Nick Zickovich on March 23, 1942, in Reno, Nev., and raised two children, Sandra Ottman of Billings and Ken Zickovich of Bozeman.
She was a woman of strength and beauty within, refusing to let the modern world take the iron out of the blood of her family. Her old world qualities of durability and persistence made her a matriarch within the family for along with her faith, she also gave wise counsel.
She was a simple woman with little education yet she possessed a fine wisdom and tenderness. She served on nary a board nor discussed policy with the city elders, yet she gave solidity to the earth. Her character was not in question for she was praised for her ability to please as her arms were always open to those in need of affirmation or her garden produce. She will leave a legacy of love to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and those who sat at table with her came away truly contented and blessed.
As an inheritance, she gives to those who knew her the precious gift of the knowledge of a good and gracious Savior, a tremendous appreciation of the beauty of God’s creation, the wonder of the dawning of a new day, the awesome splendor of a Montana sunset, the thrill of catching a brookie in a pristine mountain stream, a love of God’s creatures great and small, the bone tired satisfaction of a good day’s work and the pleasure of dining with family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Ken (Corrine) and daughter, Frances; a brother, Rudy Racki of Central Valley, Calif.; grandchildren, Dan Ottman, Vicki Song (Kirk) and Tim Ottman of Billings, Michelle Ottman of Missoula, Julianne Zickovich and Jenny Zickovich of Bozeman, and one great-granddaughter, Alexandra Song of Billings.
