Michael John Larrabee
FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Michael John Larrabee passed away on May 26, 2000. at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in Fairbanks, Alaska following brain surgery.
Michael was born Oct. 5, 1949, a son of John and Marjorie Larrabee in Livingston, Mont. He moved to Billings in 1959 with his family. He received his education in the Billings schools and graduated from Billings Senior High in 1968.
Mike had worked for O’Donnell Fire Services, Billings Ambulance Service, Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office and the Burlington Northern Railroad. He was married
to Teresa Pianka on June 2, 1997. They moved to Fairbanks in 1998.
Mike enjoyed animals, the outdoors, visiting with family and friends and loved Alaska.
While living in Billings, Mike was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors are his wife, Teresa of Fairbanks; his son from a previous marriage1 Levi, of Clyde Park, Mont. his mother, Marjorie Larrabee, Scottsdale, Ariz.; his father, John H. Larrabee, Fairbanks, Alaska; one sister, Janice Kragness, Chandler, Ariz., and her family, Chris, Denver, Colo., and Laurie, Sherman Oaks, Calif.; extended family members in Billings and Fairbanks.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held in Billings at a time to be announced later.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church.
Nick Sorensen
Funeral services for Nick Sorensen, 43, of Billings, formerly of Savage, Mont., will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2000 at the First Lutheran Church in Savage. Pastor Mark Morgenstern will officiate with burial in the Riverview cemetery in Savage, under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home in Sidney.
Nick Lynn Sorensen was born March 6, 1957, in Sidney, Mont. to parents Norlen and Nesha (Bossard) Sorensen. He grew up and attended schools in Savage, graduating with the Class of 1975. After high school, Nick joined the Army and served three years, returning to Savage in 1978. He was married
to Thrash Dickson on Sept. 2, 1978 in Savage. He drove truck in the area before driving cross country. In 1990, Nick attended aviation school in Mount Vernon, Wash. and later crop dusting school in Colorado. In 1992, Nick moved to Aniak, Alaska. On Dec. 15, 1992, he married
Haze McCarr in Aniak, Alaska where he worked as a Bush Pilot. In 1997 he returned to Savage and in 1999 he moved to Billings. He had started working with Lynch Aviation in April.
Nick enjoyed flying, fishing and hunting. He spent time on his computer flight simulator, but Nick especially enjoyed his friends here and in Aniak.
Nick died May 31, 2000, in an airplane crash on Barker Mountain near Great Falls, Mont.
Survivors include his parents, Nesha and Robert Lange of Savage; his step-mother, Judi Vogel of Aurora, Colo.; his fiancÈ, Liz Stevens of Billings; a son, Shad Dolf Sorensen of Snowhomish, Wash.; a daughter, Nicky Lynn Sorensen of Snowhomish, Wash.; four brothers, Naten Sorensen and Kylee Lange of Savage, Joel Sorensen of Phoenix, Ariz., and Seth Sorensen of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Staci Louise Lange Rice and Ashley RaeAnn Lange of Savage.
“Pat” Adler Peer
SPARKS, Nev. – “Pat” Adler Peer, 68, of Sparks, died May 30, 2000, at Saint Mary’s regional Medical Center.
A native of Madison, Wis., she was born Dec. 31, 1931, to Raymond and Barbara (Stumpf) Adler and had lived in Sparks for the past 36 years, coming from Las Vegas, Great Falls and Billings, Mont.
She conducted health fairs around the area. She was named Nurse of the Year by the March of Dimes and Saint Mary’s Nurse of the Year in 1993 and received a Women of Achievement Award in 1993. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a past president and member of the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
She attended Edgewood School, Madison, Billings Central Catholic High School, and Carrol College, Helena, Mont.
Surviving are husband, Lee; daughter, Barbara Lee Larson and Son, Donald Ray, all of Sparks; daughter, Marta Diane Long and son, Michael K., both of Sun Valley; son, Woodward T. of Winnetka, Calif.; five brothers, Lou of Billings, Jim of Richland Center, Wis., Dick of Missoula, Tom of Golden, Colo., Ken of Whitefish, Mont.
A Parish Nurse Memorial scholarship fund is being established, c/o Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, 235 W. Sixth St., Reno 89520-0108.
Ingebjorg “Inger” Tveit
LIVINGSTON – Ingebjorg “Inger” Tveit, 66, died Friday, June 2, 2000, after a long illness.
Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Crematory and interment of the cremains will be at 2:30 Wednesday, June 7, at Mountain View cemetery.
James Laverne Williams
James Laverne Williams, a resident of Billings since 1946, died peacefully on May 15, 2000, of causes related to age. He was 89.
Jim Williams was born near Lathrop, Mo., on March 19, 1911, and was raised on the family farm. He graduated from high school in Cameron, Mo., in 1929. During high school and through the 1930s, he was employed at Corner Drug and Lane’s Drug in Cameron. He attended Missouri Wesleyan College for one year. He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946 in the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was trained as a pharmacist and served in that capacity in an army field hospital in Manila and on the USS Comfort.
After discharge, he moved to Billings to open a drug store with an Army associate, Kermit Hummel. He worked as co-manager of Hummel Drug Company (29th and Second in downtown Billings) until 1965, then moved across the street to manage Odegaard Drug until his retirement in 1984.
He married
Jean Elizabeth Knoch on July 20, 1944. The couple had two sons, James Gary and John Douglas. Jean and Jim celebrated fifty years of marriage in 1994.
He was an expert woodworker, building numerous pieces of furniture for his family and friends. He took special pride in working with black walnut brought from Missouri and in refinishing antique furniture. He also loved fishing Montana’s rivers.
He is survived by his son, Gary and daughter-in-law, Joy Passanante, of Moscow, Idaho; and by his granddaughters, Liza Williams of Chicago and Emily Williams of Portland, Ore. His wife, Jean, died in 1995; his son, John in 1999. Thanks to the help of some extraordinary neighbors and friends – Mary Brazill and her family, Dera Mitchell, Joe Sullivan, Eileen and Ken Lewis, Ann O’Donnell, Barbara Schenkel, Cena Anderson, Margaret and Otis Hopper – he lived independently during his last years in the house he helped build in 1950.
A memorial service is planned for Monday, July 10, at 7 p.m. in the Wesley Hall Parlor of First United Methodist Church in Billings. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Cancer Research Institute (681 Fifth Avenue, N.Y., NY 10022) or to Habitat for Humanity International (121 Habitat St., Americus, GA 31709).
Joni Schneider Wood
Joni Schneider Wood, 62 of Billings, passed away Saturday morning, May 20, 2000, at Deaconess Medical Center. The daughter of Herman and Eileen (Harrison) Schneider, she was born in Billings on Jan. 16, 1938.
Joni was raised and educated in Laurel, graduating from Laurel High School in 1956. She later attended Carroll College before entering the U.S. Air Force and serving 2 1/2 years. In the early 1960s, she graduated from Eastern Montana College with a degree in sociology.
Joni was an avid reader and enjoyed bowling, fishing, and card games. She was preceded in death by her father, Herman.
Survivors include her mother, Eileen Schneider of Billings; her brothers, Anthony Schneider and his wife, Sandie of Clancy, Mont., and Jonathan Schneider and his wife, Tootie of Laurel; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist, due to the construction at St. Patrick’s Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
Josephine McCleary Boyle
Josephine McCleary Boyle, 94, of Billings, courageously completed her earthly life on May 18, 2000, and has joined those loved ones who were patiently waiting for her in heaven. She is loved and greatly missed by the family and friends she left behind.
Josephine was born on March 5, 1906, in Butte, Mont., to Joseph and Fay McClain, the third of six children. Jo grew up and went to school in Bozeman, receiving her teaching credentials and graduating at the age of 18. She taught school at Fattig Creek, south of Delphia before marrying John P. McCleary and moving to the McCleary ranch south of Musselshell. John and Josephine had two children, John and Faye, and the family moved to Musselshell when the children started school. In later years Jo taught at the Musselshell School and the Whoop Up School south of Melstone. Her husband John passed away in 1959. Later, Josephine married
Jack Boyle and moved to Billings.
Her survivors include one brother, H.H. McClain (June) of Paso Robles, Calif.; son, John McCleary (Edythe) of Billings; daughter, Faye Turley (John), of Billings; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 22, at Wier Funeral Home in Roundup, with internment at Musselshell cemetery. Memorials may be made to Montana Rescue Mission, Hospice or the charity of your choice.
Gottlieb ‘G.G.’ Gaub
MILES CITY – Gottlieb “G.G.” Gaub, 96, formerly of Terry, died Friday, May 19, 2000, at the Friendship Villa in Miles City.
Visitation is from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Chapel in Miles City. Prayer services will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Wesleyan Church in Terry with burial in the Prairie County cemetery.
Rose Carolyn Mincoff
MILES CITY – Rose Carolyn Mincoff, 73, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Holy Rosary Health Center.
Visitation will begin at noon Monday at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Calvary cemetery.
Irene L. Schlattman
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Irene L. Schlattman, 79, died Saturday, May 13, 2000.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, at Kane Funeral Home.
Willard A. ‘Bill’ Terpstra
JOLIET – Willard A. “Bill” Terpstra, age 56, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2000, after a courageous battle with asbestos related cancer.
He was born in San Francisco, Calif., on March 3, 1944, to Donald and Viola Terpstra. He loved his family and always put them first. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Ranger and USS Enterprise and was honorably discharged in 1966. Bill retired from U.S. West after 30 years. He was a member of the Masons, Blue Lodge and Al Bedoo Shrine.
Survivors include his wife, Cecile; son, Bryce; father, Donald; sisters, Roberta Yennie and Marilyn Baraksa; brother, Ron; many nieces and nephews, numerous friends and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Jr.; mother, Viola; brothers, Tom and Don and stepmother, Helen.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Joliet. Interment with military honors will be in Joliet cemetery. Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel is in charge of arrangements.
Glen W. Thomas
THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. – Glen W. Thomas, 76, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at the Hot Spring County Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 22, at Monument Hill cemetery. Military services will follow. Mortimore Funeral Home is in charge.
Cecil Ellis Wynes
MILES CITY – Cecil Ellis Wynes, 90, died Friday, May 19, 2000, at Holy Rosary Health Center.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday with funeral services at 2 p.m. Monday, both at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Burial will be follow in the Custer County cemetery.
John ‘Buster’ Yellow Kidney
BROWNING – John “Buster” Yellow Kidney, 69, died May 15, 2000, at his home near Browning.
Services and burial will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Yellow Kidney cemetery three miles south of Browning on Highway 89 and U.S. 2. Day Funeral Home is in charge.
Edward (Vic) Brabender
LEWISTOWN – Edward (Vic) Brabender, 68, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at the Central Montana Medical Center of natural causes.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 19, in the Veterans Section of Lewistown City cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge.
Marian Irene Erickson
Marian Irene Erickson, 72, of Billings, passed away at her home on May 18, 2000.
She was born June 6, 1927, in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of George Arnold and Zilpha May Lautenslager Erickson.
Survivors include her mother; brother, George Douglas Erickson of Billings; sisters, Jean Erickson of Billings and Zilpha Fraser of Missoula; and numerous nephews, nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.
Cremation has taken place. Upon her request, no memorial will be held. Arrangements were by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
