Norden Arthun
ROSCOE - Norden Arthun, 89, passed away early Sunday morning, April 2, 2000, at the family home in Roscoe. Norden was the last survivor and oldest son of nine children born to Norwegian immigrants Gunder and Jorunn Arthun. He was born on July 24, 1910, on the family ranch on Upper Butcher Creek between Luther and Roscoe. Norden spent his early childhood herding sheep for his father and uncles in the nearby mountains and his early adult life ranching near Roscoe.
In 1934, he began a 55-year career as a mail carrier in Roscoe, Red Lodge, Alpine and Absarokee. On Sept. 30, 1941, he married
Irene Anderson in Billings, and they made their home in Roscoe for 59 years. He enjoyed fishing, yard work and gardening, reading and playing whist with his family. Norden was a gentle and kind man, deeply attached to his wife, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and sisters and brothers-in-law. He was blessed with many friends in the area and considered them as family also. His life was characterized by helping others and always encouraging people to enjoy and be thankful for what they had.
At the time of his retirement at age 80, it is believed that he had the longest record for star route mail service in the United States. His special service and accommodations to those along the mail routes were appreciated and will be remembered by many.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Arthun of Roscoe; daughter, Diane (Dr. William R.) Evans of Eagle River, Alaska; son, Dean (Peggy) Arthun of Red Lodge; grandson, Dr. Jeff (Brenda) Tjaden of Montgomery Village, Md.; granddaughter, Jennifer (Brett) Prince of Beaverton, Ore.; granddaughter, Kirsten Arthun, attending Concordia College at Moorhead, Minn.; and grandson, Erik Norden Arthun of Red Lodge. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many cousins in Norway.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Tjaden and eight brothers and sisters. His life was full and rewarding, and a gift to all who knew him. Norden was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Absarokee, and a 63-year member of Star In The West Masonic Lodge and Royal Arch Masons of Red Lodge.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Absarokee. Interment will be in the Roscoe cemetery, with Olcott Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the Roscoe Community Center or to the charity of one's choice.
Raymond Ernest Baumgardner
CLATSKANIE, Ore. - Raymond Ernest Baumgardner, 84, died March 29, 2000, in Longview, Wash. He was born on May 11, 1915 in Molt, Mont., the son of Edward C. and Mary Jane (Jones), both deceased.
He has lived in Clatskanie for the past three years. He had lived in the Billings, Shepherd and Laurel, Mont., areas for many years and was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal service in Shepherd. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a technician fourth grade with the 162nd Infantry Regiment.
He was a member of the American Legion and he enjoyed fishing and rock collecting. He married
Zeona M. Witheral on Nov. 11, 1949, in Vancouver, Wash. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Damrill in 1996.
He is survived by nephews, David Baumgardner and Bruce Baumgardner, both of Portland, Ore.; granddaughters, Jodi Smith of Kelso, Wash., Carla Johson and Misty Ericksen, both of Clatskanie, and Lori Lee of Homedale, Idaho; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
No services will be held at his request. His cremains will be interred at Willamette National cemetery, Portland, Ore.
Edna Mae Brooks
WOLF POINT - Edna Mae Brooks, 76, died on Saturday, April 1, 2000, at the Laurel Evergreen Health Center.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Clayton Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 7, at the Clayton Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Vida cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Vida Baptist Church.
Florence Miner
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Private services were held Wednesday, April 5, with interment in the Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo for Florence Catherine Nelson Miner, 80. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan Community Diabetes Education Community Strep Association, or the Story Library, in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Dorothy Katherine Graham
Dorothy Katherine Graham, 76, passed away with her husband, Dean, at her side on Sunday, April 4, 2000, at her home in Billings. Dorothy was born Aug. 15, 1923, at Red Lodge to Croatian immigrants, Gasper and Katherine Tomicich. She grew up in Red Lodge with her parents, her five brother and two sisters
Dorothy married
Dean Graham at Red Lodge on Aug. 1, 1942. Dean, "the most handsome and the most polite man, and everything a man should be, " has been the love of her life for 57 years. Dorothy and Dean made their early home in Stillwater County before moving to Billings in 1952.
Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband, Dean; three daughters, Gerdean (Alex) Tan, Judith Dawn Graham, and Holly (Randy) Dunn; three sons, Dean (JoAnn) Graham, John (Ann) Graham, and Louis (Lori) Graham; eleven grandchildren (and baby); four great-grandchildren, and her sister, Mary Monego.
Rosary for Dorothy will be recited at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Billings. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 6, at St. Bernard's Church. Dorothy will be buried at the Red Lodge cemetery following the funeral services. Arrangements were made by Smith Funeral Home.
Dorothy struggled valiantly against heart disease for nearly 30 years. Therefore, the family asks that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, the National Multiple Sclerosis Association, or to St. Bernard's Parish.
Morn, we thank God for His wonderful gift of your life and love. Our comfort is knowing that you are with Him now in peace. Your courage in the face of pain and struggle, and your devotion to your family and to God has inspired us and given us our strength. Your lasting message to us, your family, is a simple one: have fun with your family, stay close to God, and exercise. We will miss you so much until we are with you once again.
Dorothy Clara Hudson
CASPER, Wyo. - Funeral services for Dorothy Clara Hudson, 89, will be conducted at 10 Thursday at First United Methodist Church by the Reverend Bill Moore. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery in Chadron, Neb.
She died April 3, 2000, at Life Care Center of Casper.
She was born Nov. 8, 1910, in Gordon, Neb., the daughter of Henry Edwin and Ida Portia (Johnson) Brugger, and grew up and attended schools in Nebraska. She taught school in Nebraska and later was employed at the Casper Air Base during World War II. She then began her career with the Stare of Wyoming Employment Security Commission, where she was employed for 30 years, retiring Jan. 31, 1976.
She married
Charles A. Hudson in Casper on Aug. 9, 1958.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge.
Dorothy was a generous, caring individual who loved children and nurturing flowers. Her sparkling personality touched the lives of many; she will be deeply missed, and her memory will be cherished by all.
She is survived by one step-daughter, Eleanor Zilmer of Sidney Neb.; and one step-son, Kenneth Hudson of Chadron; several step-grandchildren; and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1982; her parents; two brothers; and one step-son.
Bustard's Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of local arrangements, and Chamberlain Chapel is helping the family in Chadron.
Kimimila Yellowrobe-Brown
WOLF POINT - Kimimila YellowRobe-Brown, "Butterfly, " was born and died on April 3, 2000, at Northeast Montana Health Service Facility in Wolf Point. She was the daughter of Patrick J. Brown Sr. and Karen YellowRobe.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Stanley and Mina Yellowrobe and grandfather, Mervin Brown.
Survivors include her father and mother; grandmother, Barbara Fast Horse Ricker; a great-grandmother, Dorothy Bearcub, all of Wolf Point; three brothers, Ray Foote of Wolf Point, Patrick Brown Jr. of Regina, Sask., Canada, and Kevin Brown of Wolf Point; sisters, Francine Brown of Regina, and Emily Brown of Wolf Point.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 7, at the Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point with Mike Thompson officiating. Interment will be in the King Memorial cemetery.
Melissa Rae Stiffarm-Boe
FORT BELKNAP - Melissa Rae Stiffarm-Boe, 22, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Wake/rosary will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Red Whip Community Center at Fort Belknap. Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 6, at the Red Whip Center with interment in the Shortman Family cemetery at Hays. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge.
Henry 'Nick' Welch
POPLAR - Henry Nicholas "Nick" Welch, 69, passed away on Monday April 3, 2000, at the Benefits East Hospital in Great Falls.
Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 6, at the Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Visitation will continue at the Poplar Assembly of God Church 3 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 7, at the Assembly of God Church in Poplar with Pastor Roger D. Hunt officiating. Interment with military rites will be held in Poplar City cemetery.

THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. - Kailan William Whitt, 21, passed away Friday, March 31, 2000, as a result of a car accident.
Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, at St. Francis Catholic Church.
Marie Aastrom
LEWISTOWN - Marie Aastrom, 82, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2000, at her home of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 6, at the Creel Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at the Central Montana Memorial Gardens. Memorials are preferred and may be left at the funeral home. Creel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Irene V. Pepper
PASCO, Wash. - Irene V. Pepper, 87, former Wilsall, Mont., resident, passed away Monday, April 3, 2000, at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Pasco.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until noon, Friday, April 7, at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home, 118 North 3rd Street in Livingston, Mont., after which a procession will leave for the cemetery. Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 7, at Wilsall cemetery with Pastor Dave Barnhart officiating.
Leland Slack
ABSORKEE - Leland Slack, 83, of Absarokee, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Beartooth Manor in Columbus.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 7, in Viroqua, Wis., and inurnment will be held Saturday morning, at the Boscobel cemetery. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
A. J. Sharp
Andrew Joseph "A.J." Sharp died on Saturday, April 1, 2000 following a car accident.
A.J. was born in Kalispell on April 24, 1987, a son of Gerald and Jacqueline Sharp, Jr. His 12 years of life were spent in Kalispell, Polson and most recently, in Billings where he attended Lockwood Junior High. He was a member of the Royal Rangers and the Chapel of Hope Assembly of God Church.
A.J. was an energetic young man who loved being outdoors where he could hunt, fish or shoot his bow with his family. Mom would cheer as A.J. and his dad and brothers played basketball or street hockey for hours. He loved his family and being a big brother to his brothers and baby sister. He had an impact on everyone around him.
You will be missed deeply and will always be cherished in our hearts. Ciksuya canna sna cante mawaste. Lakota, Translation: 'When I think of you, my heart is happy! From your family and friends.
Survivors include his parents, Gerald and Jacqueline; two brothers, Jon and Samuel; a baby sister, LaShelle; grandparents, Joseph and Suzanne Garcia, and Jerry and Velva Sharp; three uncles, Terry Sharp, Billy Jack and Joel Garcia; two aunts, Theresa Halsey and Cindy Greenwood; and numerous other great aunts, great uncles and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 6, at the Chapel of Hope, 24 Nightingale Drive. Cremation will follow the services. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Sandra Fay Ross
Sandra Fay Ross, 58, of Billings, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Billings Deaconess Hospital after a long illness.
Private inurnment will be held at a later date at the Page cemetery, in Page, N.D. Cremation has taken place at Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
Lydia 'Billie' Hanson Riddle
LAUREL - Lydia "Billie" Hanson Riddle, 87, of Laurel, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2000, in Billings. She was born in Chicago on Aug. 28, 1912, to Konrad and Elizabeth Weschenfelder. Billie graduated from school in Springfield, Ill.
She was very active in numerous organizations throughout the community. She operated Hanson Health Care Center for many years and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was known for her generosity towards others.
Billie married
Dr. L.S. Hanson on April 28, 1943. Dr. Hanson and Billie devoted many hours serving the Laurel community. Dr. Hanson died in 1961, and Billie was later married
to Howard Riddle. Howard passed away an 1991 at the Laurel Nursing Home.
Billie is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Baxter of Wyoming, and Emily Schuman of Big Timber; one brother, Dave Weschenfelder of Oregon; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Fred and Conrad; and two sisters Mollie and Dorothy.
She was truly loved by all of her family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her.
"Good-bye old world, I've gone home to our everlasting one."
Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 7, at the First Congregational Church in Laurel. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Billings.
