Alice M. Hatcher
COLUMBUS - Alice M. Hatcher was born on April 3, 1928, in Laurel, and was the youngest daughter of Elihu and Pearl M. Dickson. Alice graduated from Laurel High School in 1946. After attending Billings Business College, Alice was employed in Billings as a stenographer and later as a secretary for Sawyers General Office, Crane Co., Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Indian Affairs, John Wight, Inc., and Hancock Enterprises.
Alice enjoyed singing in school and church choirs and did some solos. Music was very important in Alice's life.
In 1947, she married
William R. Colson and had one son, Aaron D. Colson, who was the light of her life. He preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1989. Alice and Bill were divorced in 1980.
Alice married
Roy "Ole" Hatcher, Oct. 25, 1980, and had 10 happy years together. They traveled some and enjoyed their time together. Alice lost Ole to cancer on March 10, 1990. Alice enjoyed both square and round dancing with her husbands from the 1950s through the 1980s.
Alice moved to a new small home she had built in Columbus in March of 1994 and has been a resident there for nearly six years. She sang in the Stillwater Community Choir in Columbus for a time as well as in two church choirs.
Alice and Ole became members of the Grace Bible Church in Laurel.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary & Crematory. Rev. Tofslie, of Idaho and Rev. Beachy of Columbus, Mont., will officiate the service. Private interment will be in Rockvale cemetery.
Memorials can be sent to Big Sky Hospice, the Montana Rescue Mission or the charity of one's choice.
Alice passed from this life on Feb. 27, 2000. Cancer is what shortened her life, but she knew the Lord and was anxious to be with Him and beloved family members and friends who preceded her in death. Two sisters survive her, Olive Hunnes of Boulder, Colo., and Marie Dawson of Billings, plus several nieces and nephews, and one stepson, Richard Hatcher of San Francisco, Calif.
Katherine Medicine Bull
ASHLAND - As the sun rose on the dawn of a beautiful day and the sun shined upon her face on Feb.29, 2000, our mother, Katherine Medicine Bull, 76, of Ashland, slipped away as she ended her journey with us on Mother Earth. She went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ and her family as they waited on the other side.
Katie came into this world in 1923 on an early morning Oct. 4, to Ernest and Mary Standing Elk Hardground. She began her school years at the Birney Day School, then completed her education at the St. Labre Mission in Ashland.
She married
the love of her life, Fred Medicine Bull Sr. on Sept. 20, 1947, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Birney. He passed away in 1977. Now Katie and Fred are together again in a wonderful place called Heaven, after sharing 30 years together on Earth.
Katie was preceded in death by one son and two daughters.
Survivors include a son, Larry (Rose) Medicine Bull of Ashland; two daughters, Christine (Jay) and Rosella McCloud of Ashland; five brothers, Francis Hardground of Birney, Jessie Howling Water of Oklahoma, Horace Howling Water of Billings, Jerome Howling Water of Oklahoma, George Howling Water of Colorado; two sisters, Sue Wilson of Colorado and Josephine Walking Night of Oklahoma; seven adopted children, Philippe Fraquelin of Billings, Frances DeSeno of California, Theresa Crazy Mule and Elsie Weasel Bear of Lame Deer, Judith Wheeler, Eloise and Stacey Stewart of Ashland; 13 grandchildren, Mike, Florris, Fredonia, James, Linwood, Daryl, Kay, Hannah, Taunya, Melissa, Landon, Christian and Victoria; 12 great grandchildren, Shandiin, Nizhoni, Shandon, Seth, Mitchell, Jaylen, Silver, Jorgi, Ashley, Shawn, Mary and Linwood Jr.; her favorite niece, Alaina Bear Comes Out and numerous nieces and nephews.
Our final farewell to Katie, mother, grandmother and friend will be on Friday, March 3, with a celebration of Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the St. Labre Mission Parish. Wake services will be held 6-9 p.m. Thursday in the St. Labre Mission. Interment will follow in the Mission cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
For all of us, today's experiences are tomorrow's memories. Days pass, seasons change, months melt into years and we stand looking back at our lives, childhood memories, exciting moments, crisis and turning points, and we have let our mother go to be where she will be free of pain and in the care of angels, her family and the Lord Jesus Christ.
William C. Brown
THREE BUTTES - William C. "Bill" Brown 66, died at his home on Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, of cancer.
Wake/Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at the Red Whip Center at Fort Belknap. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, at the Red Whip Center with interment in the Bill Brown Family cemetery at Three Buttes. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge.
Helen Marie Schultz
CODY, Wyo. - Helen Marie Schultz, 90, died on Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at West Park Hospital.
Visitations will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, at Ballard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Ballard's with interment following in Riverside cemetery.
Mildred Weydt
RED LODGE - Mildred Weydt, 76, a lifelong resident of Red Lodge, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 29, 2000, in Cedar Wood Villa. Born In Red Lodge on Dec. 27, 1923, she was the youngest of three children of Harley W. and Mabel E. Weydt.
Mildred lived at the family home where she was a charmer who spent lively times entertaining and bringing joy to all. She attended Red Lodge schools and later lived with her parents, assisting with the many chores required in the operation of the family business, Harley's Cottages Motel.
After her father's death in 1959, the motel was sold and Mildred and her mother maintained a home until she died in 1980. Mildred resided with her brother, Harley (Ed) and his wife, Mary D. until it became necessary for her to enter Cedar Wood Villa due to extended ill health.
Mildred enjoyed attending and participating in the various activities at the Red Lodge Senior Citizens Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Evelyn.
Survivors include her brother, Harley E. Weydt of Red Lodge; two nephews, Dr. Joe Weydt of Missoula and Andy Weydt of Mankato, Minn.; two nieces, Judith Lorimer of New York City, and Lynne Jackson of Aloha, Ore.; two cousins, Ramon Hyem of Red Lodge and Roger Hyem of Florence; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Cremation has taken place, and family memorial services will be held at a later date. The Olcott Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the charity of one's choice.
Vernon Hart
ABSAROKEE - Vernon Hart, 72, a retired rancher and lifetime resident of Stillwater County, died at his home in Absarokee Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000. Born Sept. 4, 1927, in Columbus, his family homesteaded in the Spring Creek area. He attended schools in Absarokee and graduated from Columbus High School.
Vernon owned and operated a local Western store and ran the family ranch until sold in 1965. In addition to being a lover of the rodeo, he enjoyed hunting fishing, attending auction sales, rock hunting and jewelry making. He worked for Stillwater County from 1977-1980. He was also a past member of the Absarokee Volunteer Fire Department, Lions Club, and Odd Fellows.
Survivors include his friend and companion, Nel Raymond, Billings; daughters, Glenda Giese, Great Falls, and Wanda Bird, Billings; stepchildren, Pam Gunnip and Brad Hart; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Ted Hart, a and many friends.
Memorial is 1 p.m. Thursday at Community Congregational Church in Absarokee with a luncheon to follow. Cremation has taken place. His ashes will be spread over the Spring Creek area. Memorials are suggested to Community Congregational Church or Absarokee Volunteer Fire Department, Absarokee, MT 59001. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
Jay Gardner Emmett
LOVELL, Wyo. - Jay Gardner Emmett, 47, died Feb. 27, 2000, at the North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell, of an apparent heart attack. He was born Sept. 28, 1952, in Lovell to Forrest M. Emmett and Veta Smith Emmett. He was the third child, followed closely by his twin brother Kay.
Jay grew up in Lovell and attended Ricks College, Billings Business College, and Utah State University. While at Ricks, he met and married
Diana Lynn Collins from Laurel, Mont. They were married
August 11, 1972 in Laurel, and were sealed a year later on August 11, 1973 in the Ogden, Utah, Temple.
Jay finished his schooling in Logan, Utah, learning the art of meat cutting. He later moved his young family to Basin and then later to Greybull where he worked as a meat cutter at Wheeler's IGA. From there, the growing family moved to Wright where Jay was the meat market manager for Decker's Grocery for six years. He then fulfilled his dream of owning his own business by moving to Lovell in 1984.
Surviving Jay, are his wife, Diana; his children Carene (Brian) Weinand of Gillette, Chad Emmett of Laramie, Joseph Emmett of Lovell, Connie Emmett of Powell; one sister Janet Alexander of Vancouver, Wash., and one brother, Dorman Emmett of Billings. He is also leaves two grandchildren.
Viewing will be held at 6-8 p.m. March 1, at the Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. March 2, at the Church of Latter-day Saints. Interment will follow in the Lovell cemetery.
Haskell Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
Diane R. Janssen
Diane R. Janssen, 48, of Billings, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at her home following surgery. She was born July 20, 1951, in Rhinelander, Wis., the daughter of Ed and Marjorie Dillon Embertson. She was educated in Wisconsin and graduated from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a degree in education. Diane taught in DeForrest, Wis., before moving to Billings. Diane worked as an accountant for the Bureau of Reclamation.
Diane married
Roger Janssen on Oct. 22, 1994, in Billings. She loved attending cultural events and caring for her friends and family. She enjoyed her girl friends' visits over a cup of coffee and always encouraged people to take advantage of the many good things life had to offer. She was well-known for her beautifully wrapped Christmas gifts and baking. Diane was an active member of the Mayflower Congregational Church.
She is survived by her husband, Roger; beloved pets, Quigley and Sadie; her parents, Ed and Marjorie of Wisconsin; her in-laws, John and Alice of Miles City; brothers, Bob (Becky) and Jon (Bonnie) of Wisconsin; sisters, Kay (Chuck) lngwell of San Jose, Calif.; Mary Embertson of Madison, Wis.; Barb (Carl) Grundhauser of Billings; and Sharon (Will) Suralski of Worden; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Mayflower Congregational Church, 2940 Poly Dr. Cremation will follow with inurnment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Northern Rockies Cancer Center, PO Box 369, Billings 59103. Arrangements were by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
Evelyn "Ev" Forsell
HARDIN - Evelyn "Ev" Forsell, 84, of Hardin, formerly of Spokane, Wash., celestially left this world to go be with our Lord Monday, Feb. 28, 2000.
A daughter of Oscar and Esther Johnson, she was born Aug. 4, 1915, in Red Cliff, Colo. The family later moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where she graduated from high school and later worked at Montgomery Ward's.
Evelyn met August "Augie" Forsell, and they were later married
in a double wedding ceremony with her older sister, Edith and her husband, Reuben Pederson on Jan. 24, 1942., in Coeur d'Alene.
She and Augie started the Saw Clinic in the early 1950s, which they worked together until he retired in the late 1960s. Evelyn worked at the North Central High School cafeteria and volunteered her time at the Holy Family Hospital in Spokane. Augie passed away in 1975.
Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, fishing and boating. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing and the Senior Center activities.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Elmer) Enzminger of Hardin; granddaughters, Kim (David) Royce of Billings and Helen (John) Torres of Eugene, Ore.; a grandson, Stephen Enzminger of Billings; sisters, Emma Frisch of Spokane, and Josephine Blakely of Post Falls, Idaho; a brother, Carl (Rae) Johnson of Coeur d'Alene; three great-grandchildren, Krystal Royce, John Mark and Matthew Torres; six nieces and one nephew.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the First American Lutheran Church in Hardin. Interment will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, in the Fairmount Memorial Park cemetery in Spokane. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home Activities Fund or to the charity of one's choice.
Eugene Walker
Eugene Walker, 90, passed away on Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Billings. Eugene was born on April 6, 1909, in Lincoln, Neb., to Conrad and Katherine (Schmer) Brenning Walker.
He married
Kathryn Schriner on April 3, l932, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Billings. For many years, they resided on the family farm west of Billings. In 1963, Eugene retired from farming and went to work for the Billings Bench Water Association. He worked for them for 17 years. In 1980, Eugene and Kathryn sold the farm west of Billings and purchased another farm near Bridger.
In his younger days, Eugene enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to farm, and he eagerly shared his love of the land with his family. He was a gentle man who was loved and respected by many. He believed, even in today's world, that he could culminate a deal with a handshake and a nod.
Eugene was preceded in death by brothers John Brenning and Rhineholdt Walker; sisters, Pauline Hardt, Elizabeth Bernhardt, and Helen Brown; daughter, Josephine Nafts; son and daughter-in-law, Kermit and Diane Walker; and two infant sons.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Kathryn; sons, Ralph (Florence) Walker of Yuma, Ariz.; Ronald (Alice) Walker of Billings; daughter, Patricia (Dean) Wallin of Pocatello, Idaho; his sisters, Erna (Wally) Auker of Seattle and Leona Hiestand of Billings; son-in-law, Elmer Nafts of Billings; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. West, at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 4 with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. West, and prior to services on Saturday.
Elaine Springs Stewart
HARLOWTON - Elaine Springs Stewart passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at the age of 84 from complications with cancer.
Elaine was born in Muncie, Ind., the daughter of Charles and Florence (Alman) Springs on Feb. 27, 1916. In 1917, the family moved to Judith Gap where Elaine grew up and graduated from high school. Her family later moved to Loma, Mont., where her father was a rancher.
She worked as a legal secretary for Judge Bill Husband until her marriage to Howard Stewart on Dec. 17, 1939, in Roundup. While Howard finished out the season packing in Yellowstone Park, Elaine lived in Harlowton. Together they started ranching in Bercail, Mont., until they moved their operation to the old Freeser place east of Two Dot. In 1950, they leased the Booth place on the Haymaker until their retirement from ranching in 1972.
After semi-retiring from ranching, they moved to Harlowton and became the caretakers for the Wheatland County Jail until 1976. In 1956, Elaine and Howard adopted a son, Stephen A. Stewart, who was the light of her life. Elaine enjoyed square dancing and snowmobiling and her absolute favorite thing, next to shopping, was playing pinochle. Elaine loved her family and friends and she will be missed by many.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Howard Stewart; a son, Stephen Stewart and his wife, Cheryl of Harlowton; a granddaughter, Nicole Stewart of Harlowton, and honorary grandchildren, Theresa Lode of Phoenix, and H.R. Lode of Judith Gap. She is preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers, Miles, Merle, and Charles and a granddaughter, Barbara Elaine Stewart.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 4, at 2 p.m. at the Perkins Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Harlowton cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Jeremy Alexander Benefit. Perkins Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Irene Rudolph
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Irene Rudolph died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Sheridan Manor after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Kane Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Crippled Children's Fund, the First United Methodist Church Missions Fund, or the charity of one's choice in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, PO Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.
John Dirkach
BELFIELD, N.D. - John Dirkach, 84, formerly of Dunn Center, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at the St. Joseph Hospital & Health Center.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, and from 8 a.m. until service time on Thursday, at Ladbury Funeral Service in Dickinson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service. Interment will follow at the Killdeer cemetery.
Helen K. Andreasen
PLENTYWOOD – Helen K. Andreasen, 86, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at the Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 1, at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Dagmar. Interment will be in Nathanael cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.
