Bernie Nickel
Bernhard W. Nickel, 77, was ushered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 9, 2000, after a heart attack. He was born June 23, 1922, in Oka, Mont., to Bernhard Abraham and Martha (Bauer) Nickel. He graduated from the Buffalo High School in 1940. On Sept. 9, 1950, he married
the love of his life, Patricia L. Ezell. They resided in Billings, where Bernie became a general contractor, constructing many fine homes, and some commercial projects as well. He loved his work and the sense of accomplishment on a completed structure, but his greatest satisfaction was seeing each of his six children come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ. As a builder, Bernie understood the importance of a solid foundation if the rest of the structure was to remain. He felt the same way about the spiritual underpinnings of his own faith and knew that his only hope for eternal life was through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. All the good things that Bernie did as a father, husband and businessman were a result of his faith in his Savior.
In his retirement years, as he struggled against heart disease and later a stroke on Aug. 10, 1998, Bernie was always found with praise and thanksgiving on his lips. Dad, you were a godly example and wonderful encouragement. We will miss you.
He was a member of the Valley Bible Church and spoke enthusiastically of the day when he could help build the new sanctuary.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Pat; two daughters, Lorna (Tim) Tucker of Mesa, Ariz., Berna (Mich) Michl of Stanwood, Wash.; four sons, Dan (Melody) Nickel of Ireland, Tom (Judy) Nickel of Billings, Brad (Kim) Nickel of Sacramento, Calif., Greg Nickel of Portland, Ore., and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services for Bernhard Nickel will be held at the Smith West Chapel on Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Terrace Gardens.
Memorials are suggested for the Valley Bible Church Building Fund and the Gideons International.
