Maxine L. Cornell
SIDNEY - Maxine L. Cornell, 74, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at the Sidney Health Center.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Carpenter's Church, Sidney, with Pastor Gloria Buxbaum officiating. Interment will be at a later date, at Poker Jim cemetery. Visitation will be at the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney, who are in charge of arrangements.
Evangelina 'Eva' Hernandez
FAIRVIEW- Evangelina "Eva" Hernandez passed away, Monday, March 20, 2000, at the Sidney Health Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 24, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Fairview, with Father Greg Staudinger presiding. Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery, under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Allen Oxarart
MALTA - Allen Michel "Tweet" Oxarart, 73, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2000, at the Benefits East Hospital in Great Falls, of natural causes.
A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at the Adams Memorial Chapel in Malta. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with burial in the Malta cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
Harley Edwin Brendal
Harley Edwin Brendal was born on Sept. 21, 1939, in Bridgeport, Neb., to Martha Schanaman Brendal and Edwin Brendal. At a young age Harley moved with his mother and brother to Portland and then to Hardin where he attended school.
At age 15, Harley started to play his steel guitar in local clubs. At 17, after graduating from Hardin High School, Harley packed up his steel guitar and moved to Kansas City to follow his musical dream. After 17 years on the road, leaving his many friends, Harley returned to Billings to care for his widowed mother and to allow his younger brother to follow his own dreams.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964. While working at many different day jobs, Harley spent his nights and weekends with his first love, music. His happiest memories were spent playing his steel. Harley retired from Exxon Refinery this past fall after 28 years.
After the death of his first wife, Barbara, he was married
and divorced from Bonnie Stark. His daughter, Rachel, was born during his marriage to Kitty McCullough. On July 16, 1989, Harley and Marie Vines were united in marriage. Although they were married
such a short time, each felt that they were able to fit in 50 years of happiness and love.
Early Sunday morning, March 19, with his loving wife by his side, Harley left us peacefully and with dignity. He has left behind his best friend and love of his life, Marie, his daughter, Rachel and special friend, Troy; his stepchildren and families, Terri and Tom Blevins, Megen and Connor; Dena and Ken Northam, Tanner, Tate and Travis; Bob and Mary Vines and Alec; his special Aunt and Uncle Floyd and Betty Schanaman, father-in-law, Perrin Dudley of Butte, and brother-in-law, Pat (Cathy) Dudley of Las Vegas, Nev.; his many relatives in Montana and other states and his many, many friends from all over the world who will miss him as we will.
Harley was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara, his mother, father and brother, John.
Papa, remember that Angels are invisible and we love you to the moon.
A memorial service to celebrate Harley's life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 2939 Colton Blvd. Inurnment will follow at Mountview cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or to the Chase Hawks Memorial Fund. A jam session will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Nest Lounge to honor Harley's Memory. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
Irene Anderson
GLASGOW - Irene Anderson, 92, died Wednesday, March 20, 2000, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 24, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Nashua. Interment will be in Highland cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge.
Julia (Polich) Althoff
POWELL, Wyo. - Mass for Julia (Polich) Althoff will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2000, at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Powell. Burial services will follow the mass at the Crown Hill cemetery. Rosary at 7 p.m. Friday evening, at the Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home in Powell.
Julia Althoff, mother, wife and member of the Powell business community for many years passed away in St. George, Utah, Monday, March 20, 2000.
Julia was born Jan. 26, 1912, on a homestead 10 miles outside Roundup, Mont. Her parents were Petra (Subat) and John Polich, who were immigrants from Croatia. The Polich family left the homestead in 1929 when Julia was 17 and moved to a farm at Carterville, Mont. In Carterville, she met Ed C. Althoff whom she married
on Aug. 11, 1934, in Forsyth, Mont. Ed and Julia farmed in the Carterville area and it was there that their two sons, Al and Art, were born.
In 1946, the family moved to Powell. In 1949, Ed and Julia opened the Althoff Tile & Linoleum Store. Julia was full-time clerk and bookkeeper for the business. The business was sold to Darrell Anderson in 1966. Ed and Julia bought the War Surplus Store in 1967 and operated the business until 1974, at which time they sold the business to their son, Al and his wife, Lori.
The Althoffs had an active, enjoyable and long-lasting retirement. They had a trailer at the Buffalo Bill Boat Club on the lake west of Cody. They traveled to Lake Mead and made their permanent winter residence in Overton, Nev. Julia lived to fish and drive her "four-wheeler" at both locations. The friends Julia made in the retirement community of Overton became very important to her. Ed and Julia sold their trailer at Buffalo Bill Lake when the Boat Club was forced to relocate due to raising the water level. They summered in Powell until 1998 when they made Overton their only residence.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Lud Polich of Missoula, Mont., and Rudy Polich of Rosebud, Mont.
Surviving family include her husband, Ed in Overton, Nev.; a sister, Eva Nygard of Sequim, Wash.; a brother, Art Polich of Rosebud, Mont.; a son, Al and his wife, Lori of Wapiti, Wyo., a son, Art and his wife, Julia of Glendale, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
The family requests a contribution to the Northwest College Scholarship Fund in lieu of flowers. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Marianne Jolley
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - On March 18, 2000, Marianne Jolley died at her home.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial is to be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, at Kane Funeral Home. A reception will follow in the Elks dining room at 3 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to The Cancer Center of Northern Wyoming and Whedon Center.
Esther R. Brekke
BIG TIMBER - Esther Rebecca Brekke, 88, died March 20, 2000, at the Pioneer Medical Center after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Esther was born Nov. 4, 1911, in Robinson, N.D., to Rev. Jacob G. and Johanna (Rosholt) Rugland. She graduated from high school in Belfield, N.D., and from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. She earned a master of science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1950.
Esther was a home demonstration agent and state 4-H leader for the Cooperative Extension Service. She worked with 4-H Clubs and the International Farm Youth Exchange program in Minnesota, North Dakota, Hawaii, Iowa and Montana. Her work in Hawaii began three weeks before the 1941 Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. During World War II, Esther coordinated a food-rationing program for the island of Kauai and for a Japanese-American internment camp.
Esther married
Olaf J. Brekke on June 17, 1956, in Missoula. They lived in Bozeman, Chinook and Big Timber. Olaf was a County Extension agent. While in Chinook, Esther supervised the Work Experience and Training Program for unemployed people in Blaine and Hill Counties.
The family moved to Big Timber in 1968. Esther was a homemaker and an active member of Big Timber Lutheran Church. She traveled frequently to friends and relatives, Lutheran Church meetings and Concordia College.
Esther entered the Pioneer Nursing Home in Big Timber in August 1990.
Survivors include her husband Olaf and son Douglas of Big Timber; sisters Clara Rugland of Kalispell and Ruth Bakke of Yreka, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Gerhard T. Rugland, Sigvart L. Rugland and Walter L. Rugland and by sisters Gilma Mather, Sara Gertrude "Trudy" Malone and Alma Read.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 27, at 2:30 p.m. at Big Timber Lutheran Church, 115 W. Fourth Ave. The family suggests that memorials be made to Big Timber Lutheran Church, Box 278, Big Timber MT 59011 or to Pioneer Medical Center, Box 1228, Big Timber MT 59011.
Vera L. Kraft
Vera L. Kraft, 58, of Billings passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital.
Vera was born on Jan. 20, 1942, in Bismarck, N.D., a daughter of Earl E. and Winifred R. (Hall) McElroy. She received her education in Bismarck and Billings and worked as a dental technician early in her life.
Mrs. Kraft was an avid gardener and book reader during her stint as a fulltime, stay-at-home, mom. As her children grew older she began her journey into the antique business. She ran a store in Billings with a partner and eventually had a shop of her own, Vera's Antiques. She also sold antiques at shows throughout the northwest and had lived in North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Washington and California. Vera always hoped to write a book called "Travels with Vera" and share some of the stories she had.
Survivors include her son, John Kraft of Texas; a daughter, Vicky (Nickolas) Frangos of California; her sister, Mary Svetich of Billings; and a granddaughter, Madison Frangos. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at the Smith West Chapel, 304 34th Street West, with interment to follow at Terrace Gardens cemetery. Visitations will begin Wednesday morning. Should friends desire, memorials are suggested to the charity of one's choice. Smith West Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Gail Marie Yauck
TEN SLEEP, Wyo. - Gail Marie Yauck, 43, died in a single vehicle accident Sunday, March 19, 2000.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Worland. Interment will be in Stevens Point, Wis. Bryant Funeral Home, PO Box 524, Worland, WY, is in charge.
James T. Allen
MALTA - James T. Allen, 63, died at his home on Saturday, March 18, 2000, from a heart attack.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 23, at the Malta Lutheran Church with interment in the Malta cemetery. Adams Funeral Home is in charge.
Paul R. Clark
GREYBULL, Wyo. - Paul Rodger Clark, 92, died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at the Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, at the Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, at the Hillside cemetery with rites by Fern Chapter No. 31 O.E.S. Interment will follow. Family and friends are invited to join the family at John and Marilyn Hesco's home at 308 Third Ave. N. following the services.

Frank Joseph Staudinger
Frank Joseph Staudinger was called home by his Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 18, 2000, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 21, 1931, the first son of Emanuel and Anne Kuntz Staudinger, in Manning, N.D., growing up on the family farm, receiving his early education, and working for neighboring farmers and helping out during hard times.
At age 19, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Okinawa during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Montana working at various jobs until 1962 when he was employed by the Great Northern Railroad, which later became Burlington Northern. He worked us a driver for BN Transport. Leaving the railroad in 1988, Frank and his wife, Barbara, drove truck cross country throughout the U.S. and Canada for five years. His last employment was with Agri Basics in Billings where he worked from 1995 until his illness in May of 1998.
Frank was married
to the late Mildred Evans, bearing three children. He and Barbara Head were married
March 10, 1977, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, moving to the family home west of Park City where they have resided since. In 1996, Frank and Barbara became involved in the Foster Parent Program, giving him some of the most rewarding and happy times of his life. He will be remembered for his quiet, friendly manner, generous heart, and willingness to help in times of need. He worked hard and provided well. His children and grandchildren all held their own special place in his heart. He enjoyed trucking, visiting family and friends, and working in his garden.
Frank is survived by his wife, Barbara; six sons, Frank E. Staudinger and Michael (Marie) Staudinger of Wyoming, Darrell and Kevin Head of Livingston, Kenny (Lisa) Head of San Angelo, Texas, and Kelly (Tina) Head of Columbus; two daughters, Sue Ann Staudinger (Steve) Nelson of Sheridan, Wyo., and Dianne (Gary) Flack of Kalispell; grandchildren, Jessica, Michael and Joey Staudinger, Kyle and Sara Nelson, Zo Dwinell of Sheridan, Dale King of Panama City, Fla., Amy (Shane) Roberts of Gallatin Gateway, Melissa (Ron) Butcher of Three Forks, Rebecha, Stephanie, and Kelsey Head of Savannah, Tenn., Melodee Head of Columbus, and Zachary Head of Livingston; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Tasha Butcher; three sisters, Gladys (Homer) Atkison of Choctaw, Okla., Hilda Moore of Colcord, Okla., and Magdalene (Roger) Pearson of Siloam Springs, Ark.; one brother, Adam (Rose) Staudinger of Miles City; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves five foster children who so richly blessed the last years of his life, Xaviere, Karyn, and his three babies, Te Amo (Tweety), Mariel and Mishayla. We will all miss you Papa. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Tony Staudinger, and his stepson, Donnie Head.
Frank was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, brother, and faithful friend. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.
A celebration of Frank's life will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Laurel Baptist Church, 2920 Outfitter Trail with interment following in the Park City cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of choice. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
Thomas Mirrel Everett
LAUREL - Thomas Mirrel Everett, age 87, of Laurel, passed away at his home on Friday, March 17, 2000.
Tom was born July 13, 1912, at Ypsilanti, Mich., the son of Franklin and Mary Everett. He attended school in Toledo, Ohio, and as a teen he joined the CCC which brought him to Montana where he met and married
Sarah Alto Culler on Sept. 13, 1935.
They lived in White Sulphur Springs for several years, moving to Laurel in 1943 where he worked for the Northern Pacific as a fireman, then as an engineer, retiring in 1974.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the IOOF Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife; six brothers and sisters; and his parents.
Survivors include his sisters, Helen Losie of Oregon, Ohio; Dorothy Hamman of Essexville, Mich.; sons, Newton (Joyce) Everett of Twin Fails, Idaho; Raymond (Marie) Everett of Alliance, Neb.; daughters, Marianne (Merle) Cherry of Laurel; Thomasine Mae (Ed) Ecker of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; Muriel (Roy) Zahm of Billings; and Sarah (Ron) Watts of Laurel; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service at 10 a.m. Friday, March 24, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel. No visitation. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Billings. Jerome L. Lundeen
Jerome L. Lundeen passed away at St. Vincent Hospital on March 12, 2000. He was born June 10, 1921, in Oslo, Minn. He served in the Army in Africa and Italy and was a member of the American Legion.
Jerome is survived by his wife, Loretta; a son, Michael of Minneapolis; a daughter, Mary of Billings; a sister, Myrtle Rodal of Oslo, Minn.; a brother, Vernon of Grand Forks, N.D.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and five sisters and son, Jerry.
Private services were held at Cremation or Funeral Gallery with burial in Veterans cemetery.
