Russell Gordon Baughn
Russell Gordon Baughn, 55, went to join his father, Ted, on March 24, 2000, while driving through Roundup, Mont. Russ was an avid fisherman, loved to be in the outdoors, and had an amazing sense of humor. He was the self-acclaimed inventor of the "Baughn shortcut" and has gotten many people lost through this process. Some are yet to be found.
Russ was born to Dorothy and Ted Baughn on Aug. 23, 1944, in Spokane, Wash. Russ graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1963 and joined the Air Force National Guard, from which he retired. In 1966, he married
Kay Turnley, they divorced in 1985, and he then returned to Montana. He spent most of his life as a traveling salesman and recently owned and operated Automotive Diagnostics in Billings. He recently became engaged to Savola "Sami" Blanchard of Ballantine, and they planned to marry in August.
Russ leaves behind his fiancee, Savola "Sami" Blanchard of Ballantine; his son, Todd Baughn, daughter and her husband, Tammi Baughn-Moran and Chip Moran, mother, Dorothy Baughn, his brothers, Mike and Tim Baughn, his sister, Kathy Donahue, grandchildren, Samantha Moran and Cody Baughn, all of Spokane; uncle, Delmer Bemis of Kingston, Idaho, two nieces and one nephew, and numerous close friends throughout the states.
He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. Thank you for the memories, the adventures and the laughs. All our love.
Smiths Funeral Chapel of Billings is in charge of cremation. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, at the VFW, Main St., in Worden, Mont. A second memorial service will be held in Spokane, Wash., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Worden Volunteer fire Department.
Hilda G. Creamer
Hilda G. Creamer, 84 of Billings, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 26, 2000, at her home. She was born Dec. 19, 1915, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Hilda married
Raymond Creamer in 1938 and had two daughters, Patricia (Darrell) Albertson of Fergus Falls, Minn., and Beverly J. (Phillip) Simpson of Billings. Other survivors include six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The casket is closed. Memorials may be sent to First Christian Church, 522 N. 29th St., Billings, MT 59101. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.
Truman G. Gullard
Truman G. Gullard, 90 of Billings, passed away Saturday of congestive heart failure. He was born April 13, 1909, in Osseo, Wis., a son of Henry C. and Anna Melby Gullard. At the age of 2, he moved with his parents to the vicinity northeast of Acton where his parents homesteaded. Truman attended grade school in Molt and Lincoln School northeast of Acton and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1929. The family moved to a farm east of Red Lodge in 1929. Truman, his brother Mandel and his Uncle Carl purchased a farm and farmed a short period of time. He then worked for his Uncle Harry Gullard bringing new cars from Detroit and Chicago to Billings where his uncle had a car dealership. Later, he went into the house construction business with his father. On Feb. 17, 1941, he was called through Selective Service to join the 1088 Engineers Division of the Army. The first year was spent at Fort Lewis, Wash., and when World War II was declared, he was sent to Epahate Island in the south Pacific. He was there for the duration of the war and was discharged June 5, 1945. He returned to Billings and the building construction business. In 1960, he went into the restaurant business, at one time owning Squire Fine Foods, retiring in 1974. He later managed the night shift at the Kit Kat Cafe until 1998 when he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, June A. Gullard; brothers, Mandel, James and Sherman.
Survivors include a brother, William and his wife, Beatrice; a sister, Arlene and her husband, Robert Wicks, all of Billings; sisters-in-law, Emma Gullard of Kirkland, Wash., and Helen Gullard of Leavenworth, Wash.; numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two very dear friends, Carl and Betty Miller.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Cremation or Funeral Gallery 8th and St. Johns Ave. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or to the charity of choice.
William A. Macmillan
HELENA - William A. Macmillan, 82, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at the VA Center following a brief illness.
Chapel services, with Masonic rites, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at Hagler-Anderson Chapel. Graveside military honors will be presented at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Kenneth Noyes
LIVINGSTON - Kenneth Noyes, 77, formerly of Beach, N.D., died Sunday, March 26, 2000, after a long battle with cancer.
Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Crematory. Service arrangements for Beach, N.D., will be announced at a later date.
Eunice M. McGeorge
JOLIET - Eunice M. McGeorge, 86, of Joliet, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Billings Deaconess Medical Center.
Eunice was born at Bridger on Jan. 22, 1914, a daughter of Martin and Isabell Isaacs Hagan. She was married
to Ernest McGeorge on Aug. 18, 1934, at Red Lodge, Mont. They lived in Kellogg, Idaho, for two years before moving to Silesia, in 1941, where they farmed for 32 years. Upon their retirement in 1973, they built a home in Joliet where they continued to reside.
Ernest preceded her in death on April 4, 1995. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Eunice liked gardening and being outdoors. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Joliet Wesleyan Church, Sunshine Club and Joliet Senior Citizens.
Survivors include her daughter and husband, Janice and Ivan Kays of Missoula; a brother, Milton Hagan of Dillon; a sister, Iola Beardon in Iowa; a sister-in-law, Jean Mathews of Joliet; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 1, at the Joliet Wesleyan Church. Memorials are suggested to Joliet Wesleyan Church. Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel was in charge of cremation.
Esther C. Blanc
LAUREL - Esther C. Blanc, 73, of Laurel, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Aspen Meadows Retirement Home in Billings.
She was born July 7, 1926 at Haig, Neb., a daughter of David and Mary Richards. She attended school in Hardin, Mont. She moved to Scottsbluff, Neb., where she was married
to Ralph Nuss, later moving to Billings, Mont., where she married
Robert Blanc. Esther moved to Laurel in 1980 where she has continued to reside.
She liked to crochet and cross stitch. She was a member of Rotana and had many good friends at Laurel Gardens.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a son, Ralph Nuss.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy (Tom) Ludwig and their children, Mike (Lori) Ludwig and SallyAnn (David) Jones, all of Laurel; a son, Brad (June) Nuss and their daughter, Nichole of Cheyenne, Wyo; a daughter, Roxanne Blanc and her children, Brittney, Whitney and Courtney of Billings; a daughter-in-law, Nadine Nuss of Laurel and her children, Chris, Jim and Anjuli; brothers, Jake Richards of Scottsbluff, Neb.; and Fred Donald Richards of Scottsbluff; sisters, Martha Jarred of Littleton, Colo.; Mary Jane Worth of Scottsbluff; and Julia McGuyer of Casper, Wyo.; three great-grandchildren, Brianne Jones, Connor Ludwig and Taylor Ludwig.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel with interment in Laurel cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Anna Louise Seeman Brainard
MANHATTEN - Anna Louise Seeman Brainard, 83, died quietly in her sleep surrounded by her family on March 26, 2000, at Billings Deaconess Hospital. She was born Nov. 23, 1916, at Consort, Alberta, the daughter of Ludwig Hennig Seeman and Frieda Marie Bach. The family moved to Alvadore, Ore. in 1921 and to Manhattan, Montana in 1925. The following year they moved to a ranch in the Madison Valley. She graduated from the Upper Madison School in 1930 and then Manhattan High School in 1934. She lived in Manhattan while she was attending high school, and worked for her board and room. Times were hard during the depression years but the family fared well. They did most of the work on the ranch and always milked cows and sold cream and butter. They raised their own meat and had a large garden and orchard. There was always a bounty to eat at home, even though money was scarce. After graduation, she worked in Bozeman caring for children to supplement the depression era income of her parents ranch. She lived in Gallatin County for the rest of her life. In 1935, her father was killed in an accident with runaway horses and her mother moved to Manhattan in 1931.
She married
Kenneth Todd in 1935, and they were later divorced. She married
Harry Brainard on Aug. 10, 1945. They lived on their ranch near Manhattan for the rest of their lives. They had a daughter, Harriet Ann, who died in 1947. Their son, Edwin D. and his wife, Alice "Punky", of Manhattan survive. Also surviving are two sons from her first marriage, Gene E. Todd and his wife Marian, of Belgrade, and Kenneth "Pat" Todd, of Bozeman. Also surviving is a brother Gordon Seeman and his wife Joyce, of Manhattan, and sisters Myrtle Clinton, of Bozeman, and Eileen Jones and her husband Robert, of Bend, Ore., as well as five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Her husband, Harry, a daughter. Harriet Ann Brainard, her parents and her brother, Fred Seeman, preceded her in death.
She was a charter member of the Maudlow Women's Club and a member of the Gallatin Cowbelles. She was an active participant in the family ranching business. In addition to managing purebred Hereford cattle records, she was a ranch hand when needed, whether it was milking cows, branding, moving cattle, pullin calves or any other chore that help was needed for. She cooked for the family and hired hands at the ranch; and it was not unusual to find as many as fifteen at the table for three meals a day. Mornings began early and days ended late. She enjoyed gardening and fishing. She liked to do handiwork and made many beautiful embroidered and crocheted objects that were given to others. Her husband required constant care and nursing in his later life and this was her first priority. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Dokken - Nelson's Sunset Chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Hills cemetery. Joan T. Wright
LIVINGSTON - Joan T. Wright, 77, passed away on March 26, 2000 from a massive stroke. Cremation has taken place. She was born on Feb. 2, 1923, in Cambridge Mass., the daughter of Franklin and Miriam Trumbull. She grew up in Concord, Mass., attended Concord Academy and graduated from Vassar College in 1944.She then joined the WAC and served in India in the A.T.C., obtaining the rank of sergeant. Following her honorable discharge, she moved to Aspen, Colo. and competed in downhill ski racing.
In 1949, she married
Philip N.Wright, Jr., formerly of Grosse Pointe, Mich. The two operated a fine clothing store, The Aspen Country Store and had four children. Their second son, Chapin, was lost in a accident in 1972. In that same year, the Wrights moved to Wise River, Mont., where they founded The Complete Fly Fisher resort along the Big Hole River, and the fame of Joan's cuisine became legendary. In 1980, they lost their eldest son Jonathan Trumbull Wright, in an avalanche on China's highest mountain, Gonga Shan. In 1984, the Wrights retired in Livingston, to their home on the banks of the Yellowstone River to enjoy the ever changing wildlife Joan so loved and to beat her husband at tennis. Known for her extra ordinary kindness and helpfulness to all, she will be sorely missed by her husband, daughter, Jennifer of Osaka, Japan; son Philip N. Wright, III of Aspen, Colo.; her three granddaughters, and countless friends and relations.

George 'Bud' Garr
SUN LAKES, Ariz. - George 'Bud' Garr, 73, formerly of Livingston, Mont., passed away March 24, 2000, in Chandler, Ariz.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 27, at Valley of the Sun Mausoleum Chapel, in Chandler, Ariz. Memorials may be given to University of Notre Dame General Fund, 1100 Grace Hall, Notre Dame, Ind. 46556-5612. Valley of the Sun Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
Dale L. Luff
Dale L. Luff, 80 of Billings, passed away Saturday evening, March 25, 2000, at Deaconess Medical Center. The son of Leslie and Maude Luff, he was born in Palmyra, Neb., Oct. 20, 1919.
Dale was raised and educated in Palmyra. After high school, he attended barber college before entering the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in the invasion of Normandy and was honorably discharged in 1945 with Battlefield Commission.
In Nov. of 1941, Dale married
Hazel Naiman in Lincoln, Neb. They later moved to Billings, where Dale barbered in the Heights for 40 years. In 1978, he attended the Western Auctioneers College in Billings. Dale was a devoted husband and father. The second love of his life, however, were his horses. He was a member of the Appaloosa and Paint Horse Clubs and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald G. Luff in 1997.
Survivors include his wife Hazel; his son, Terrance D. Luff and his daughter, Trudy Ann Foos; two brothers and two sisters; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist.
Darlene Wolenetz
BAKER - Darlene Marie Wolenetz, 61, of Baker, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2000, at the Saint Vincent Hospital in Billings.
Darlene was born on Oct. 12, 1938, the daughter of Pete and Irma Barthel Jesok. She grew up and attended country school in Alpha, N.D. and graduated from the Beach High School in 1956.
Darlene worked for the A.S.C. office for Golden Valley in Beach for several years. Darlene was married
to Byron Wolenetz on April 23, 1964 in Beach. Together they made their home in Baker, where they raised their two daughters. In 1989, they moved to the Willard community where they operated their farm. Darlene enjoyed music, playing bridge, and following the Baker Spartan's Basketball team. She especially enjoyed her garden and growing her roses. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and always stayed very close to her sister Arde and her children. Darlene was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Baker.
Survivors include her husband, Byron of Willard; two daughters, LaVonne Wiseman and her husband Shawn of Nampa, Idaho and Lynette Wolenetz Kremers and her husband Michael of Superior, Wis.; two grandchildren, Preston and Jerilyn Wiseman; and a sister Ardelle Forrester of Britton, S.D. Her parents, and a brother, James preceded Darlene in death.
A Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, in the Stevenson's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, at the American Lutheran Church with Pastor Kelly Sloan officiating. Burial will be in the family lot of the Bonnievale cemetery in Baker. Stevenson Funeral Home of Baker is in charge of arrangements.
Gifford V. Standing
OSWEGO - Gifford V. Standing, 73, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2000, at his home after a long struggle with lung disease and cancer.
Visitations will be held 2-8 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, at Clayton Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, at the Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Interment with military rites will be in Greenwood cemetery in Wolf Point.
Andrew G. Hellstern
GLASGOW - Andrew G. Hellstern, age 91, of Glasgow, Mont., died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Home of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, at Hinsdale Methodist Church in Hinsdale. Burial will be in Hillview cemetery in Hinsdale. Bell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Devon 'Dee' Brubaker
WORLAND, Wyo. - Devon "Dee" Brubaker, 97, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Community Care of America in Worland.
The viewing will be held from 7:30-8:30 p.m., Sunday, March 26 at Veile Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 27, at Mount Calvary Fellowship Church will burial to follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Inez Cass
WORDEN - Inez Cass, 79, of Worden passed away at home on Friday, March 24, 2000, of conges-tive heart failure.
Inez Cecilia Lane was born Nov. 15, 1920, on a ranch near Three Forks to Michael and Grace Lane. Inez helped take care of her father and younger brothers, Gene and Leo, after her mother died in 1933. Inez helped on the ranch until 1945. She married
Dale Cass on April 6, 1942. They moved to Big Timber in October 1945 after Dale's discharge from the Air Force. They moved to Worden in 1946.
Survivors include her husband, Dale, of 58 years; a daughter, Patti (Steve) Fait of Belgrade; two sons, James (Shelley) Cass of Parker, Colo. and Mike (Bev) Cass of Eureka; a sister, Opal Cunningham of Columbus; brothers, Earl Lane and Leo Lane of Three Forks; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Inez was pre-ceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gene.
Memorial mass will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 28 at St. Cyril and Methodious Catholic Church. Cremation has been held. Private family inurnment will be at a later date at Pleasantview cemetery in Ballantine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033 Billings, MT 59107 or to the charity of choice. Arrangements were by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
