Wally Edland
SCOBEY - Wally Edland, of Dallas, formerly of Scobey, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2000 in Dallas after a short illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at the St. Phillips' Catholic Church in Scobey. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at the Church. Waller Funeral Home of Scobey is in charge of the arrangements.
Lette Petersen
CULBERTSON - Lette Peterson, 105, pioneer of Eastern Montana, passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in the Roosevelt Memorial Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for the past six and a half years.
Funeral services will be held at Thursday Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. (MST) in the Ebenezer Lutheran Church, northeast of Culbertson. Interment will be in the Churchyard cemetery. Friends may call at the Everson-Clayton Memorial Chapel in Culbertson, Wednesday, Feb. 2 from 2-7 p.m. and Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until noon.
Minnie Kuester
MILES CITY - Funeral services for Minnie Kuester, 96, of Miles City formerly of Sidney, are at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Pella Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastors Mark and Maryann Morgenstern officiating. Music will be provided by: Stormy and Kathy Vickers, accompanied by Marge Thogersen. Interment will be in the Sidney cemetery under the direction of the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Minnie J. Kuester was born May 31, 1903, daughter of Forest and Laura (Young) Kinkade, in Chico, Calif. Minnie moved with her parents to Idaho in 1905. She attended grade school in Burley, Idaho, and high school in King Hill, Idaho, and graduated from Albion (Idaho) Normal College.
Minnie taught rural school in Idaho and Montana, where she met Arthur Kuester, and they were united in marriage in Sidney May 26, 1931. They farmed east of Richey until 1971, when they retired and moved into Sidney. Arthur died July 30, 1975. Minnie continued to live in Sidney until she moved to Miles City to be closer to her daughter.
Minnie was a member of the Pella Lutheran Church, of Sidney and the VFW Auxiliary Post No. 7887, of Richey.
Minnie died on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City.
Minnie is survived by her daughter, Shirley and husband, Robert Kale, of Miles City; a brother, Con Kinkade, ot Pocatello, Idaho; granddaughters, Sheila Kale, of Miles City, and Kim Kilroy, of Dalton, Ga.; and three great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arthur and brothers, Roy Kincade and James Kincade.
Thomas R. Burns
Thomas Robert Burns, 61, of Billings, formerly of Fort Peck, passed away Jan. 29,2000, unexpectedly of natural causes. He was born Jan. 21, 1939, to Donald C. and Anne F. Burns in Glasgow, Mont. Tom graduated in 1957 from Nashua High School and participated in all sports. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. His careers varied over his life; the latest was Sun Burns Bait Shop and Deer Repellent operated out of Billings.
He is survived by his children, Loretta, Mike, Darin, Dustin, Damon, and Shana and six grandchildren. Also, he is survived by brothers, Dan of Frazer, Don of Fort Peck and sister, Maryann O'Connor of Fort Benton. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at Nashua Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, with a Funeral Mass Feb 4, at 10 a.m. Friday morning. Interment will be at the Nashua cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Leonard Pat 'P.K.' Kelly Linch
GLENDIVE - Leonard Pat "P.K." Kelly Linch, age 58 of Glendive, died on Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, four miles west of Wibaux, Mont., of natural causes.
A Memory Service for family and friends will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at the Evangelical Church of North America in Glendive with Pastor Allen Solheim officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Dawson Memorial cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.
P.K. was born on Aug. 20, 1941, in Cataula, Ga., the son of William "Stubbs" and Eckie (Smith) Linch. He was raised and educated in Monticello, Ga., graduating from Monticello High School in 1959. He entered the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in England and at Glasgow (Mont.) Air Force Base. In 1961 while in Glendive, he met his future wife, Leona Leivestad on a blind date. Following his discharge in 1963, P.K. worked for the Forest Service in Georgia. P.K. married
Leona on May 23, 1966, in Glendive. P.K. had worked for the Glendive Police Department for 22 1/2 years. Following his retirement from the police force, he went to work for Montana as an enforcement officer with motor carrier services in theDepartment of Transportation. He continued this job until the time of his death.
P.K. enjoyed fishing and watching his favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed watching his son, Kyle play baseball and coaching his son's baseball team. P.K. was a quiet man - it wasn't easy for him to express himself, but his actions spoke louder than his words. P.K. loved his children, adored his grandchildren and loved to cook for his family.
Survivors include his wife, Leone, of Glendive; his daughter, Kelly Mumper and her husband, Jerry of Baker; his son, Kyle Linch of Glendive; his mother, Eckie Linch of Gray, Ga.; three sisters, Josephine Littrell of Iowa, Sarah Cason of Monticello, Ga., and Eckie Mae Cason of Monticello; two brothers, Luther "Pete" Linch of Abilene, Texas, and Billy Linch of Warner Robins, Ga.; three grandchildren, Trista, Bobby and Amanda Mumper.

Harold L. Mooney
On January 30, 2000, our husband, father and grandpa joined our Lord in heaven. Harold was born June 27, 1933, to Goldie and Earl Mooney in Billings, Mont. He went to grade school in Laurel. Harold moved to various places and ended up back in Billings where he graduated from Billings Senior High. The following three years were spent in the Navy where Harold was stationed in Guam for 18 months. From there he was on the USS Frontier until he was honorably discharged. In 1954, Harold married
his high school sweetheart and soul mate, Blanche Weiss. Together he and his wife raised with pride and love their three children: daughter, Joyce (husband Rick, grandchildren Erika, Hal and Kiel), sons, Rock (wife Brenda, grandchildren Elisha and Earl), Mike, (grandchildren Michael and Dylan), three great-grandchildren, Brittany, Brock and Alyssa Jo.
He worked as an employee at Carter Oil until he moved his family to Elliston, Mont., where they owned and operated the Twin Pines Mercantile. In Elliston, they met some life long friends. In 1968 the family returned to Billings and Harold and Blanche founded and operated Mooney Painting, Inc., until they retired in 1993. Together he and Blanche traveled all 50 states with family and friends, meeting many new friends along the way "snow-birding". They had many wonderful memories and adventures.
Harold was a member of Elks Lodge, No. 394 and a Master Mason in the Masonic Lodge 1151 in Marysville, Mont.
Harold had many pastimes he enjoyed including fishing, hunting and gopher shooting. He was a life-long member of the Yellowstone Rifle Club and the NRA, as well as a member of the Elite Motor Home Club.
Dear husband, father and grandpa, we will miss you. May the sunshine of heaven shine brightly upon your face and the wind always be at your back. You will always be the wind beneath our wings.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital or the charity of one's choice.
Miles F. Morton
Miles F. Morton, 74, of Billings, formerly of Forsyth and Rosebud, died Friday Jan. 28, 2000, in Yuma, Ariz.
Miles Franklin Morton was born Nov. 24, 1925, in Miles City, the only child of Franklin and Lydia Klundt Morton. He lived in the Rosebud area and attended schools there, graduating from Rosebud High School in 1944.
On Feb. 16, 1946, Miles married
Ollie L. Seader in Forsyth. They had one child, Gary, who died accidentally in 1974. Miles farmed in the Rosebud area till the early 1970s, when he retired from farming and moved to Forsyth. He worked odd jobs until he started working at Peabody Coal Mine in Colstrip, from which he retired in 1989. They moved to Billing in 1996 and have lived there since.
Miles enjoyed woodworking and made many oak items for his friends and relatives. He also liked to garden and shared with everybody the fruits of his labor. He loved to travel, fish and camp. He and Ollie enjoyed having a motorhome which they used for fishing in Montana and enjoying the sunshine during winters in Arizona. It was during one of these "snowbird trips" that he died of a massive heart attack in Yuma. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ollie; and his cousins, Wilbur and Ethel Morton, Charlene Morton, as well as other numerous cousins. Miles was preceded in death by his parents and son, Gary.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Forsyth. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is assisting the family with these arrangements.
Betty Schaff
RYEGATE - Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend Betty Schaff, 70, peacefully passed away on Jan. 31, 2000, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings. She was born to Samuel and Nellie Clark on May 10, 1929, in Ryegate. She married
Chris Schaff on Sept. 19, 1946, together they lived in the Big Coulee where they raised three children, Susan, Carson and Carter. Our sweet Betty cooked and cared for many with open arms and all who knew her loved her. She lived a life filled with family, hard work and dashing adventure that revealed a charming spunk all her own. Proceeded in death by her parents, husband, Chris Schaff; sister, June Nickel; and two brothers, Fred and Waldo Clark. Betty is survived by brothers, Sam (Mary) Clark of Florida and Gene (Jean) Clark of Ryegate; sisters, LoDema (Bill) Durham of Washington and Birdie (Paul) VonOlnhausen of Ryegate; and her good friend, Joe Hutton of Park City. Betty will be carried on forever by her daughter, Susan (Clyde) Wambolt of Ryegate; sons, Carson Schaff of Columbus and Carter (Pam) Schaff of Billings; grandchildren, Bryan (Jana) Wambolt family of Billings, Carlett Wambolt of Colorado, Kobi Sue Schaff of Sheridan, Camen Schaff of Columbus, Kendra and Sara Schaff of Billings and Shannon (Frank) Clouse of Columbus; great-grandchildren are Brandon, Dylan, and Keelan Clouse of Columbus; MaryLu Ringler of Phoenix and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the Ryegate gymnasium at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4. A luncheon to follow at the Catholic hall. In lieu of flowers send donations to The Golden Valley Quick Response in c/o of Lyle Burgess, Ryegate, MT 59074. Sincere thank you goes to the Quick Response Team of Ryegate, the staff of St. Vincent's Hospital, Tony (Charlotte) Zinne and all our friends who have been there with love and support.
Thank you Grandma Betty for bringing such joy to our lives, we will miss you and love you always.
Harold Joseph Morrison
Harold Joseph Morrison, 79 of Billings, formerly of Hardin, passed away Monday Jan. 31, 2000, at the Valley Health Care Center in Billings.
He was born Sept. 17, 1920, a son of Joseph E. and Margaret E. Morrison in Hardin. He received schooling in Hardin and graduated from Lodge Grass High School in 1939.
Harold enlisted into the Army Air Force in 1942 serving as Staff Sergeant for the 89th Airdrome Squadron. He received his honorable discharge in March 1946. From 1946 to 1961, Harold farmed in the Lodge Grass area while working part time for the Agriculture and Stabilization Conservation Services in Hardin. In 1962, he began to work full-time for the A.S.C.S in Hardin as the Big Horn County director.
Harold married
Lorraine Keller on June 15, 1965, and the couple made their home in Hardin until Harold was transferred to the Yellowstone County A.S.C.S. office in 1972. He retired in 1984.
He was a member of the Hardin Masonic St. John Lodge No. 92 AF&AM, Grand Chapter R.A.M. of Montana, Al Bedoo Shrine Temple, a active member of Provost Guard and Hospital Corp, the Jesters and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; one son, Michael (Theresa) Morrison of Billings; two daughters, Pamela Keller (Scott) Tomchick of Lynnwood, Wash., and Jule (Gary) Glasrud of Billings; two sisters, Bobbie Burroughs and Helen Morrison both of Billings; one granddaughter, Amanda Tomchick.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow in the Hardin Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
William J. (Jim) Carr
HARLOWTON - William J. (Jim) Carr passed away Jan. 29, 2000, while on a sheep shearing job at Harlowton, Mont.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Hope Lutheran Church in Bozeman. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Belgrade. Memorials in Jim's name may be made to the Montana Woolgrowers Association, P.0. Box 1693, Helena, MT 59624. Dokken-Nelson in Bozeman is in charge.
Elizabeth Faye 'Betsy' (Plath) Raymond
WILMINGTON, Del. - Elizabeth Faye "Betsy" (Plath) Raymond, 41, of Wilmington, Delaware and formerly of Shepherd, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in Delaware.
Mrs. Raymond was employed as an audit supervisor for the Wilmington Trust Company for the past four years. She was a graduate of Montana State University and for eight years had worked for the Legislative Auditor for the State of Montana
She was very active in the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Wilmington, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a Girl Scout leader and was active with the PTA. Mrs. Raymond also served as treasurer for the North Graylyn Crest Swim Club.
Betsy is survived by her husband, Robert James Raymond; two daughters, Laura Raymond and Michelle Raymond, all of the family home; two brothers, Thomas Plath of Shepherd and Russell Plath of Billings; and a sister, Judith Carroll of Shepherd.
Visitations may be made on Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Smith's Downtown Chapel in Billings. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Shepherd Emmanuel Lutheran Church with interment to follow at the Shepherd cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.
Alexander Haun
Alexander Haun was born Feb. 23, 1909 in Polson, Mont. He moved to Billings when he was 19 years of age. The Lord called Alex home on Jan. 30, 2000. He passed away at the Deaconess Hospital from complications of pneumonia and heart problems. He was 91. He was a gentle and loving man and will be missed by all who knew him.
Alex tended bar at the Cheerio Lounge and later bought the Midway Night Club. He married
Anna Gabel, but divorced after 14 years. He later married
Helyn Osbourne, who passed away earlier this year. In his later years, he and Helyn both worked at the Circle Inn Liquor store. He and Helyn spent their last few years at the Western Manor Health Care Center.
Alex loved to fish and spent many days on the Yellowater and Martinsdale lakes. He also loved gardening and baseball. He loved to visit people as his entire life was spent with the public.
Survivors include his daughter, Sharon and husband Jerry Robbins, grandson Michael Robbins and great granddaughter Lexis all of Butte, stepson, Bill Osbourne of Phoenix, Ariz.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at his request. Inurnment will be at Mountview cemetery. Arrangements were by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
Lindsey Benfield
CODY, Wyo. - Lindsey Benfield, age 61, passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at the West Park Hospital in Cody.
Visitation will be held at 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at Ballard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Ballards. Cremation will follow. Memorial services and interment of cremains will take place later in North Carolina.

Thomas Robert Burns, 61 of Billings, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2000, of natural causes.
Services will be held at Nashua Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, and funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 4. Interment will be in the Nashua cemetery. Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge.
