C. Burrell Jones
HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - C. Burrell Jones, 83, died Feb. 11, 2000.
He was born Nov. 3, 1916, in Sumter, S.C., to William and Blanch Jones. He graduated from Furman University and New Orleans Baptist Seminary. He pastored churches in several states before moving to Montana where he and his wife spent 28 years. His work included teaching on the Crow Indian Reservation and at Yellowstone Bible College. He also served as pastor at the following Baptist Churches: Trinity (Billings), Pryor, Livingston, Hardin, Opheim and Berea (Shepherd).
Survivors include his wife, Alice; sons, Brian, Chuck, David and Mark and daughter, Julie; nine grandchildren (including Dale and Trent of Billings) and seven great-grandchildren.

Richard J. Holmstrom
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Richard J. Holmstrom died unexpectedly in his sleep in Brooklyn on Friday, Feb. 4, 2000.
He was born in Billings, Aug. 17, 1961, and graduated from West High in 1979, from Boston University in 1983 and from Columbia University Law School in 1988. He practiced law in New York City since his graduation.
He is survived by his parents, Robert W. and Patricia Holmstrom, and his sister, T. Jan Thom, all of Billings.
The memorial service in New York will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Saint Peter's Church, 619 Lexington Ave., at the corner of 54th Street, with a reception following at Goodwin Procter's New York office, one block away at 599 Lexington, at the corner of 53rd Street on the 40th floor.
The memorial service in Billings will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2210 Colton Blvd., with a lunch following.
Kenneth Two Moons (Magpie)
BUSBY - Kenneth Two Moons (Magpie), 41, left the boy's and went to the spirit world to be with his father, mother, sister Betty and little brother John. Ken was born in Crow Agency Jan. 29, 1959, to Chief Austin Two Moons Sr. and Hilda Hart. Ken attended Busby schools and was active in basketball and high school rodeo.
After receiving his high school diploma in 1977, he enlisted in the service and was stationed in Baumholder, Germany, where he operated 10,000 tons of hell on wheels with his tank unit. After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned home and worked as a ranch hand for his friend Butch Small.
Kenneth has many friends who enjoyed his company. Kenneth was especially fond of and close to his grandkids with whom he spent a lot of time. He will be missed by all who knew him. Ken is survived by three brothers, Bill (Arvelos), Austin (Wilma), and George Sr.; nephews, Loren (Mary), Jason, Alden, Austin III, Dustin, George Jr. and Brian; nieces, Betty Jo and Reanna; aunts, Alberta Fisher and Beatrice (Hart) Littlewolf; uncles, Eugene (Thelma) Hart and Martin Hart; and special adopted aunts, Velma Tallwhiteman and Jeanivie Bearquiver.
Wake services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 15, Busby Mennonite Church, Busby, and funeral services are Wednesday, Feb. 16, 11a.m., Busby Mennonite Church.
Wayne F. Messenger
CODY, Wyo. - Longtime Cody resident and banker, Wayne F. Messenger, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, in a Billings, Mont., hospital due to complications following surgery. He was 83.
Wayne was born in Rushville, Neb., July 13, 1916, to James Messenger and Rose Skoda. He graduated from Rushville High School in 1934 and attended Barnes Business College, Omaha, Neb., in 1935. Wayne began his banking career in Nebraska in 1935 and soon after moved to First National Bank in Powell until 1942. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945 during World War II. On Aug. 2, 1944, he married
Marjorie Mae Brown in Rushville, Neb.
Following World War II, Wayne moved to Cody in 1945 to continue his long and successful career in banking. He was executive vice president of First National Bank and in 1956 opened First State Bank, now Community First State Bank. He retired from banking in 1980. From 1980-1984 he was a partner in Western Real Estate.
Wayne was active in many community and state organizations. He was past commander of the American Legion; past commander of Constantine Commandry No. 9, Royal Arch Masons, past High Priest of the Darius Chapter No. 10, Royal Arch Masons, Inspector General Honorary of the 33rd Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite SJ, USA; past Grand Master of Grand Lodge Wyoming AF & AM, member of Cedar Chapter No. 14 Order of Eastern Star, Kefar Shrine Club, Kalif Temple AANMS, SJ, USA; Past Master, Shoshone Lodge No. 21 AF & AM; member of the Elks and Eagles; past leader of DeMolay and Boy Scouts; past president of the Wyoming Banker's Association; served on the Cody School Board and hospital board; past president of Cody Club; member of Aircraft Owners' Pilots Association; life-long member and Elder of the Presbyterian Church and member of the Park County Historical Society.
Wayne's passion was flying his plane over the beautiful Cody country, He was an avid fisherman and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His love of life and people has left a lasting legacy for all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his kind, and truly gentle nature.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Glenn, and a sister, Mildred Hickman. His is survived by Margie, wife of 55 years; son, Michael and wife, Corky of Thermopolis; daughter Sally, and husband, West HiIzer of Plano, Texas; son, John of Cody; and daughter, Lorna and husband, Jeff Poulsen of Sheridan; four grandchildren, Kate and Nathan Messenger; Kristin and Dustin Poulsen; and nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the following charities: Knights Templar Eye Foundation; Big Horn Basin Cancer Center; American Legion Baseball; and First Presbyterian Church in Cody or the charity of your choice.
Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Thursday Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. with graveside services to follow at Riverside cemetery. A pie and ice cream social will be held at the church following interment in celebration of Wayne's life.
Elizabeth Fried
JAMESTOWN, N.D. - Elizabeth Fried, 85, died at Hi-Acre Manor on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000.
Visitation will be held 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Lisko Funeral Chapel. Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Lisko's. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at The Basilca of St. James. Interment at Calvary cemetery. Memorials may be made to the FACE Foundation.
Gillian Fales
CODY, Wyo. - Gillian Brook Fales, 18, passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings, Montana, due to injuries received in a motor vehicle accident west of Cody.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cody. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at St. Anthony's. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery.
Lawrence Albert Wetch
Mr. Lawrence Wetch passed away on Feb. 13, 2000, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was 64. Born January 25, 1936, in Hysham to Helen (Martens) and Joseph Wetch.
Larry attended schools in Hysham and Laurel before entering the Army. He was stationed in Illinois from 1955 to 1958. He later earned his Certification as a diesel mechanic at Stewart and Stevenson of Houston, Texas. Larry retired from Interstate Diesel in June 1999.
He loved the outdoors and spent his free time in mountains whenever possible. Hunting and fishing, boating and four-wheeling.
He is survived by his wife Patsy of Billings. His children Cindy (Steven) Muus, Connie Wetch both of Billings. Mitchell of Baytown, Texas, Phillip also of Billings. Three grandsons, Jeremy, Chad and Chase of Billings. Sisters, Mary Lou (Clyde) Van Bauren, Patricia Anderson of Billings. Brothers LeRoy (Rita) of Billings, and Robert (Lois) Wetch of Laurel. Also a friend and sidekick of 30 years Charlie (Jenny) Brown of Three Forks. Numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Raymond and Ronnie.
Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17 at Dahl Funeral Chapel with interment at the Laurel cemetery.
Regina Pease
LAME DEER - Regina Pease, 86, of Lame Deer, formerly of Billings, passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2000 in the Billings Deaconess Medical Center.
She was born April 6, 1913 in Florence, Montana, a daughter of Maximillion Couture and Nellie Abbott Parker. She was raised in the Missoula area and received her education in Missoula and later graduated from Great Falls High School in 1931.
Regina married
Reginald Skenandore in Chadron, Neb. in 1937 and he died in 1942. She resided in Wisconsin and worked in the Green Bay shipyards as a welder during World War II and returned to Browning in 1946. She married
Oliver Pease in Billings on June 6, 1949. The couple made their home in communities where Oliver was a teacher. He taught in various schools in Montana, Utah, North Dakota and Washington. Regina usually worked for the schools as a bookkeeper or secretary. They returned to Billings in 1980 and in 1999 to Lame Deer to be with their daughter Claudia Walks Along. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family on holidays. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, spinning wool and bowling. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in basketball and football games. She was a devout Christian throughout her life and left a trail for all her loved ones to follow. She was truly a virtuous woman.
Regina was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lyle Rasmussen; a sister, Dorthea Severtson; and a daughter, Shirley Ann Zahno.
Survivors include her husband, Oliver of Lame Deer; three sons, Rodney (Barbara) Skenandore of St. Joseph, Mo.; Richard (Sheila) Pease of Newtown, N.D.; Samuel (Carmen) Pease of Havre; three daughters, Olivia (John Bill) Sierra of Kyle, S.D., Claudia (Joseph Jr.) Walks Along of Lame Deer and Cynthia Pease of Beaverton, Ore.; a grandson whom they raised, Strong Pease; 26 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Church of Christ, 10th and Alderson, Billings. Cremation will follow the services. Private interment of the Ashes will follow at a later Date. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Donna J. Mathews
Donna J. Mathews, 59, of Laurel, died of natural causes at home Feb. 12, 2000. She was born March 20, 1940, in Lewistown to Marvin and Marjorie Phillips. Donna was raised and educated in Hobson. She married
Fred Mathews in 1957 and was a ranch wife and mother. She later divorced, moving to Roberts and Laurel.
Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Gene Todd of Moccasin; two sons, Greg of Buffalo and Bret of Salt Lake City; and a daughter, Marlene Hughes of Dallas. Donna was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be made to the Montana Heart Association. At her request, no services are planned. Cremation was held at Cremation or Funeral Gallery in Billings.
Nathan Joseph Smells
PRYOR - Nathan Joseph Smells, 60, of Pryor, passed away Feb. 11, 2000, in Hardin.
Chiaxxuu'uachiash "In Combat five Times" was born March 20, 1939, in Pryor, a son of Owen and Annie Bell Rock Smells Sr. He was raised by Zita Reed and received his education in St. Xavier, Pryor and Edgar. While attending high school, he lived with Elizabeth Smart Enemy in Pryor. Following his education, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and later received his Honorable Discharge. Nathan worked on various farms and ranches in the Pryor area.
Nathan married
Clara Rides Horse on Dec. 27, 1962, in Pryor, and the couple made their home in Pryor. He was a member of the Catholic Church, Native American Church, Bad War Deeds Clan and was raised as a child of the Newly Made Lodge Clan. He was a Crow Tobacco Society adopted son of Joe and Gladys Ten Bear.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Jenny.
Survivors include his wife, Clara of Pryor; six sons, Timothy Smells, Curtis Old Bull of New Jersey, Lyndon Rides the Horse of New Mexico, Nathan Old Dwarf of Missoula and Artie Snell Sr. of Pryor; three daughters, Jolene Smells, Devona Lambert and Veronica Big Day of Pryor; six brothers, Tyrone Ten Bear, Arlo Dawes, Owen Smells Jr. and Gerald Reed of Crow Agency, Sylvester Spotted Bear of Pryor and George Reed Jr. of Fort Smith; seven sisters, Sharon Smells of Billings, Mary Three Irons of Hardin, Theresa Haun, Elouise Layhay and Ellajean Cortwright of Pryor; Joann Big Medicine and Peggy Big Man of Crow Agency; his grandchildren, Yolanda, Brandon, Shannon, Timothy, Bill, Edmund, Autumn, Nathan, Lane, Jo-Jo, Owen, Louisa-Jo, Cindy, Artie Jr., Maria, Tyrell, Ray-dawn, Leon, Lyndon, Makaila, Felice, Tennison, Salishia and Darrin and two great- grandchildren, Cayden and Honor.
Rosary will be recited 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Crow Agency St. Dennis Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Custer Battlefield National cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Thelma M. Jackson
Thelma M. Jackson, 72, of Billings, passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Eagle Cliff Manor.
She was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Jamestown, N.D., the daughter of John and Hilda (Slaatenheus) Spidahl. She was raised in Jamestown and attended school at the Devils Lake School for the Deaf. Thelma married
Patrick Jackson, Dec. 5, 1946, in Grand Forks, N.D. They moved to Billings in 1950 and worked at the Rex Laundry and Western Manor Nursing Home.
She enjoyed bingo, playing cards and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral.
Survivors include one son, Bernard (Lynn) Jackson; four daughters, Patricia (Jim) Horn, Kathleen (William) Brown, Roberta (Randy) Crable, and Debra (Greg) King all of Billings; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eleanor Williams of San Diego, Calif., Esther Birkadahl of Las Vegas, Nev., and Helen Edgekoski of Crockston, Minn.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Jackson in 1985, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Due to construction at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral, Funeral Mass will be said at 12 noon at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. West.
Interment will be in Terrace Gardens cemetery.

Victoria Marie Yarlott Crooked Arm
CROW AGENCY - Victoria Marie Yarlott Crooked Arm, 57, of Crow Agency, passed away suddenly, Feb. 12, 2000, in the Crow Agency IHS Hospital.
Auntie Vickie as she was affectionately known was born May 19,1942, in Crow Agency, a daughter of Eugene and Maude Morrison Yarlott. She attended schools in Crow Agency and later graduated from Lodge Grass High School. Following her education, she joined the Up with People musical group and traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe.
Victoria married
Wesley Crooked Ann on Feb. 1, 1969, in Sheridan, Wyo. The couple made their home in Crow Agency and Alaska for two years. Wesley died in November of 1999.
She was a person of strong faith who participated in all aspects of the Zion II Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include three sons, Aaron (Devona) Leider of Hardin, Dale (Loretta) Crooked Arm and Johnny (Becky) Five of Crow Agency; four brothers, Charles (Johnann) of Reno Creek, Garland Williamson of Crow Agency, Aaron (Althea) and Alvin (Lucille) Yarlott Sr. of Benteen; ten sisters, Delmyrna Yarlott, Tori (Dan) Hershberger and Mary (Tom) Bonko of Benteen, Charlotte (Paul) Spotted Horse and Elise (Buster) Leider of Lodge Grass, Rozelia (Garrett) Stewart of Dunmore, Linda (Tyrone) Ten Bear, Pearl Tobacco, Marcia (Benito) Brown and Olive Yarlott of Crow Agency; her adopted mother, Ida Yellowhorn of Canada; her grandchildren, Amanda, Aaron Jr., Trinity, Mitchell, Christian, Wacey and Dale-Mathias and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by members of the Not Afraid, Yellow Horn families.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

COLUMBUS - Henry VanHeemst, 98, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Stillwater Community Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Community Congregational Church in Absarokee. Smith Funeral Chapel in Columbus is in charge.
