Montana Rakeman
Montana Rakeman, 98, of Ennis died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Madison Valley Manor in Ennis.
She was born Aug. 29, 1902, at Billings to Andrew and Emma (Samuelson) Lundborg. She was an exceptional seamstress and dog groomer, and her husband's partner in the ownership of the Ennis Pharmacy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Rakeman in 1984; and her daughter, Betty Louise Faurot in 1980.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Tana Cooper of Helena; and two great-grandchildren.
At her request, there will be no services.
Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.

Louis Schaffer
Louis Schaffer, 78, of Genoa, Nev., died Aug. 27, 2000, in Reno, Nev. He was born May 27, 1922, in Manhattan to John and Edna Brown Schaffer.
He graduated from Gallatin County High School in 1940. He received his master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago a second master's degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He served 30 years with the U.S. Air Force, and after retiring he taught at the University of Cincinnati while earning his doctorate degree.
Mr. Schaffer was a colonel and pilot with the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the 509th Composite Group and served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, three Legions of Merit and the Bronze Star.
In 1972, he moved to Genoa, Nev., where he ran a consulting business, working with the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Mines and several other state agencies.
From 1986-'96, he volunteered with the Laubach Literacy Action, training more than 2,000 tutors in Nevada. He initiated reading and learning programs in 16 communities, four prisons, three workplaces, middle schools, colleges and reservations in Nevada and the nearby California region.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gary, and his wife of 54 years, Frankie.
Among his survivors are his daughters, Brooke Woellner of Genoa, Nev., and Sunny Bryant of Gardnerville, Nev.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held in Genoa, Nev. Walton's Chapel of the Valley was in charge of arrangements.
Marie L. Whetham
Marie L. Whetham, 88, of Bozeman, died Sept. 14, 2000. The daughter of Henry Walter and Julia Marie (Harriot) Whetham, she was born April 13, 1912, in Wayne, N.J.
She grew up in Wayne and Pompton Lakes, N.J., and worked for E.I. Dupont Company for 44 years.
She is survived by her sons, Martin H. (wife, Elaine) and Richard S. (wife, Jane) Reardon; her seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two spouses.
Cremation has taken place at Dahl Crematory. Private family service.
Memorials in her name may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Charles William Herman
On Sept. 14, 2000, Charles William "Chuck" died of cancer.
He was born in Rugby, N.D., on Oct. 5, 1926, to William Bruce and Martha Keyes Herman and grew up on the Towner area family ranch. In 1953, he married Darlene Ann Freeman who died in August 1985. Working various jobs, they moved to Laurel and then to Bozeman where he worked at MSU until he retired in 1986. In June 1994 he married Agnes Whitman and moved to Helena. He was a Korean War veteran and a member of Hope Lutheran Church of Bozeman, the Moose, Elks, American Legion and Eagles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Merle and Gary; a sister, Cassie; his first wife, Darlene; an infant son; and two grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Agnes; two sons, Bill and Ed; three daughters, Charlene Loperof, Bonnie Clark and Renae Ostle; three stepchildren, Ardis Loberg, Wayne Whitman and Anita Barrett; three sisters, Ruth, Elaine and Eileen; and nine grandchildren, including his special granddaughter, Katrina.
Services were held on Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at First Lutheran Church and Pastor Larry Miller officiated. Burial was held in Bozeman at the Sunset Hills Cemetery. Memorials are encouraged to Hospice of St. Peters of First Lutheran Church of Helena.
Eve Oetter
Eve Oetter, age 75 of Ennis, died Friday, Sept. 15, at the Madison Valley Manor in Ennis.
She was born Sept. 7, 1925, in Saskatchewan, Canada, to John and Mildred (Young) Haycraft. As an infant, she moved to Springfield, Ill., where she was raised and graduated from high school. She married Kenneth Oetter April 29, 1951, in Springfield, Ill. She then moved to Frankfort, Ill., where she worked as a bookkeeper at a medical clinic.
She moved to Ennis in 1978 and worked for a short time at the Madison Valley Manor before retiring.
She was a member of the Madison Valley Presbyterian Church in Ennis, the Madison Valley Women's Club and the American Legion Auxiliary in Sheridan
She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 22, 1985, and an infant son.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Kendell Oetter and Barbara Wright of St. John, Ind.; a daughter, Linda and Jeff Ayres of Federal Way, Wash.; two sisters, Lou Ragains and Rita Taft, both of Florida; and a sister-in-law, Faye and Jack Watkins of Ennis.
Memorials may be made to the Madison Valley Public Library in Ennis.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at the Madison Valley Cemetery in Ennis, and Rev. Jean Johnson officiated.
