Michael Baca
Country western singer Michael Baca, age 68, also known as Billy Baca, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000.
He is survived by family and children including daughter, Valarie Baca; son, Martin Baca; sisters, Linda McGowan andAnita Meuchels.
Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Billings. Family will be present. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with interment in Holy Cross cemetery. A social will follow.
Linda Mae Grotbo Robison
After a valiant battle with emphysema, Linda left us on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, to go to a much better place.
She was born on Oct. 10, 1941, the third child of Art and Blanche Grotbo. She lived her entire life in Billings and was very proud to be the granddaughter of Norwegian immigrants. She went to Garfield from the first through the ninth grade and graduated from Billings Senior High in 1959.
On Jan. 8, 1960, she married
Dwayne Robison. They just celebrated 40 years of marriage. They have four children: Stanley Robison (Staci) of Billings, Susan Pitts (Dennis) of Roberts, Steve Robison of Billings, and Stacie Schillreff (Denton) of Billings. They have five grandchildren: Amanda Pitts, Josh Pitts, Rodnie Schillreff, Miranda Schillreff and Christian Robison.
In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, Linda is survived by two brothers and a sister: John Grotbo (Jeannette) of Billings, Stanley Grotbo (Kathy) of Columbus, and Connie Ahlgren (JR) of Billings, and too many relatives and friends to mention,
Linda was a self-taught antique expert, specializing in antique glass and dolls. For many years. she had a booth at the antique shows at the Metra. She was well-known at the garage sales around Billings
Linda will be remembered for her many talents, which usually brought her blue ribbons and rosettes from the Montana State Fair. Among these were her roses, crochet, photography, candy and bread entries. She was a very good fisherman and had a great appreciation for the outdoors. She has requested that her ashes be spread on the Stillwater River.
Linda had a sense of humor that attracted people to her, young and old, and her house was always a gathering place. Throughout this struggle, she has maintained contact with the Lord, and that, plus her sense of humor and her support from Dwayne, gave her the strength to endure this battle.
This write-up does not do justice to this unique and colorful personality. We do know that she will be sorely missed, and we will all meet again.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Smith's West Chapel, 304 34th St. West. Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
Ruth Carlin
Ruth Carlin, 76, of Billings passed away Saturday, Feb. 20, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital.
She was born Dec. 31, l923, the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Propp) Heimbichner. She was born and raised in the Hesper area and attended schools in Billings.
She worked at the Grand Hotel in downtown Billings and that was where she met her husband to be. On July 6, 1943 Ruth married
Michael "Mike" Carlin. Following her marriage, they moved to Rochester, N.Y. where they lived while he was in the service. Three children was born to the union while living in N.Y. They returned to Billings in 1948 to make their home.
They had two more children. In 1960, she began working at St. Vincent Hospital and was very proud that she never missed a days work in her 30 years of service. She retired in 1990.
Ruth enjoyed knitting and crocheting and made many afghans, dolls, and sweaters. Her special love was for her dog, Snowflake.
Survivors include four sons, Dennis M. (Sue) Carlin of Sheridan, Wyo., Wayne R. Carlin of Billings, John H. Carlin of Rochester, N.Y. and Matthew (Debbie) Carlin of Billings; one daughter, Josette Siravoto of Gillette, Wyo.; grandchildren, Ingrid (Tom) Maddox, Beth Siravoto, Lisa Carlin, Mandy Carlin; great granddaughter, Emily; brothers, Edward (Delores) Heimbichner of Ariz., Reuben Heimbichner of Billings and sister Rosie (Alec) Manweiler of Joliet. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Smith West Chapel. Interment will be at Terrace Gardens cemetery. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, Montana Affl, 2116 Broadwater Ave., Billings, MT.
Edna L. Marshall
LAUREL - Edna L. Marshall, 86, of Laurel, formerly of Hardin passed away Feb. 18, 2000 in the St. Vincent Hospital.
She was born Feb. 11, 1914 in Agate, Colo., a daughter of Barney and Nellie Walker Fowler. She grew up and attended schools in Newton, Kansas and Denver, Colo.
Edna married
Allan P. Marshall on Sept. 9, 1936, in Loveland, Colo. and the couple made their home in Hardin in 1937. She began work for the Holly Sugar Corporation as a bookkeeper in 1944 and retired in 1972, after 28 years of service. Mr. Marshall died in 1954.
She was an active member of the First American Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cross stitch, knitting, quilting and reading.
Edna was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Hogan and a grandson, Matthew.
Survivors include two sons, Ron (Ranae) Marshall of Laurel and Jerry Marshall of Calif.; two brothers, Thomas (Nina) Hogan of Texas and Floyd Fowler of Missouri; three grandchildren, Pam Steinhoff, Blake and Holly Marshall and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Hardin First American Lutheran Church with Rev. Don Gordineer. Interment will be held Thursday in the Fairmount cemetery, Denver, Colo. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

John William Mohland
GREAT FALLS - John William Mohland, 78, died Feb. 18, 2000, at his home of natural causes.
John was born April 26, 1921, at Hardin, Mont. John attended two years at the University of Montana, and was in the U.S. Navy. In 1944, he married
Dorothy Perrine in Missoula.
John was a master carpenter for more than 50 years, also a member of Montana carpenters union for 50 years. His hobbies included playing cards, bowling and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy P. Mohland, of Great Falls; three daughters, Marianne Mohland of Mesquite, Nev., Lori Buckalew of Colstrip, and Jayne Mohland of Bridger; three sons, John J. Mohland and Gordon R. Mohland of Billings, and Jerry K. Mohland of Great Falls; sisters, Clara Lizotte, Norma Mohland, Rachael Hayes and Jackie Steele all of Missoula; brothers, Al Mohland of Missoula, Robert Mohland of Spokane, Wash. And Walter Mohland of Tucson, of Ariz., 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21 at Croxford and Sons Funeral home. Burial will be at Highland cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials may be made to charity of one's choice. Croxford and Sons is in charge of arrangements.
Delbert Adams
MESA, Ariz. - Delbert Adams, 71 of Mesa, formerly of Fort Smith, Mont., passed away Monday, Feb. 14, in Tulsa, Okla. He was born in Riverton, Wyo., on Nov. 21, 1928. He was married
to Bonnie Gidley on May 30, 1948, in Billings.
He retired from the Bureau of Reclamation after 42 years, which included four years of Navy service. After retirement, Delbert and Bonnie RV'd extensively throughout the United States before settling in Mesa. On their travels, they made many new friends and shared the pleasures of the road together.
He is survived by three sons, Jim (Sandi) of Colstrip, Mont., Dean (Cindy) of Indianapolis, Ind., and Tom of Billings. He is also survived by one brother, Charles (Yoshi) of Payson, Ariz., and family. Delbert is survived by four grandsons, Jason (Jacque), Michael (Cortney), Chad and Cory and two great granddaughters Kelsey and Cheyann.
Services will be held in Riverton on March 4 at 2 p.m. in the Davis Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Treatment Centers of America, 2408 E. 81st St., Suite 100, Tulsa, Okla., Attn: Susan Magill.
Anders 'Andy' Anderson
Anders "Andy" Anderson was born at Stapness near Egensand in Norway on Aug. 17, 1902. He came to the United States in 1906 with his parents, Herman and Anne Anderson; two younger brothers, Bernt and Severin; his grandparents, Anders and Hanne Anderson; and an uncle, Sonen Anderson.
Andy grew up in the Bow-Edison, Wash., area north of Seattle. After high school, he attended Spokane College, where he met Hjordes Sylten. They were married
in Absarokee on Nov. 7, 1929. She passed away in June 1964. In January 1966, he married
Cleone Gaustad, who passed away in August 1996.
Andy loved to travel, working on fishing boats in Alaska and a steamship in the Far East before he married
. His travels continued, with both wives taking him to all 50 states, Norway, Germany and Mexico.
Before retiring in 1966, Andy worked on ranches, at the mines in the Beartooths, in Yellowstone Park and for Stillwater County.
Andy was the eldest of 11 children, five of whom survive him, Anna and Albert of Seattle, Selma of Mount Vernon, Wash., Nina of Tacoma, Wash., and Gustaf of Bow-Edison. He was preceded in death by Bernt, Severin, Harold, Simon and Hanna. His step-children, Cleone's three daughters and three sons, also survive him. Andy's many nieces, nephews and their families loved him dearly.
Memorial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Absarokee with inurnment at Rosebud cemetery. Andy died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000.
Cremation has taken place at Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
Michael Baca
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Michael Baca, age 68, formerly of Crow Agency, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at the Sioux Valley Hospital from kidney failure.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 20, in the Chapel at Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. The Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Billings. Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross cemetery, with a social following at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Smith Funeral Chapel is in charge of the Billings arrangements.
Audrey Mary Beckhardt
Audrey Mary Beckhardt, 79, of Billings, passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Deaconess Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 31, 1920, in Elkridge, Md., the daughter of William and Mabel (Eberhart) Weaver. She was raised in Elkridge and graduated from Elkridge High School. She worked as a nannie until she got married
on June 17, 1939, to Joseph Beckhardt.
Audrey loved to collect rocks, wild flowers, listen to music and was an avid reader. She was a caregiver for her mother and mother-in-law and she was willing to help anyone.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph, of Billings; three sons, Joseph (Gail) Beckhardt, III, of Preston, Md., William Brian Beckhardt of San Francisco, and Alan Louis (Leila) Beckhardt of Reed Point; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22 at Smith West Chapel. Cremation will take place. Interment will be at Terrace Gardens cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society-Montana affiliate, 2116 Broadwater Ave., Billings, 59102.
James Lars Burns
AMARILLO, Texas - James Lars Burns, 78, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000.
Mr. Burns was born an Sidney, Mont. and had lived in Amarillo for 20 years. He was an operating engineer in road construction. He was a member of the Scottish Heritage Society and taught and played the bagpipes.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran. He served in World War II as an engineer gunner in a B-17.
Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his wife, Clydine Burns, in 1998.
He is survived by two sons, William Burns and Mark Burns, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Teri Jo Williams; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 21, at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Billings. Funeral services were held one Wednesday, Feb. 16 in Amarillo.
Angie S. Chitolie
MINOT, N.D. - Angie Sandau Chitolie, age 22, of Minot, formerly of Sidney, Mont., died Friday morning, Feb. 18, 2000, at the Trinity Health Center in Minot.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the Shepherd of the Valley Church in Sidney. Burial will be in the Newlon cemetery under the direction of the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Amalia 'Molly' Columbus
RED LODGE - Amalia "Molly" Columbus died on Feb. 15, 2000, at Evergreen Laurel Care Center where she had been a patient since 1990. Since early 1974, she has had a progressive loss of mental functioning, requiring her youngest daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Mike Hink of Billings and Red Lodge, to oversee her care and well-being.
Molly was born on Sept. 25, 1918, to Amalja Ljube (Kruljac) and Mike Hudak in Red Lodge where she graduated from high school. She married
Dr. George L. Herrmann on June 22, 1938, in Denver where they raised George, Marilyn, Randolph and Patricia. Elizabeth Jean and Douglas died in early childhood and infancy.
Following her divorce in 1950, she moved to Red Lodge to finish raising her children while living with her brothers, Steve and Mike. She worked as a clerk for several department stores in Red Lodge and operated Molly's This-N-That Shop, a unique second hand and antique store. She was an active participant in Yugoslavian Day at the Festival of Nations for many years. She was a member of St. Agnes Church, Moose Lodge and VFW.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, John, Steve and Michael Hudak, Helen Nichols and Carolyn Gabrian. She married
D.W. Columbus, who served as mayor of Red Lodge for many years, in September, 1964. He died in 1973. Molly had a clever wit and sense of humor, a kind and generous heart, a wonderful smile and tremendous love for her children and grandchildren. She was deeply spiritual and dedicated her life to her Lord in 1972. Even recently, she loved the picture of Jesus by her bed.
The family expresses appreciation to the people of Red Lodge who helped us keep her in her home she loved so much for as long as we could and the Laurel Care Center staff who treated her with utmost care, kindness and respect.
Molly is survived by her children, Pat Hink and husband, Mike of Billings, Marilyn Waller and husband, Richard of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., George Herrmann and wife, Kay of Clarendon Hills, Ill., and Randolph Herrmann of Fort Washington, Md., and grandchildren, Susan (Waller) Poland, Theresa (Herrmann) Shea, Gabriel, Michelle, Raphelle and Nathaniel Hink, Steven Waller, Alexander and Kim Herrmann.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial and graveside service at a later date in Red Lodge. Memorials can be made to Evergreen Laurel Health and Rehabilitation Center. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
