CODY, Wyo. - Jean Mangus, age 77, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at West Park Hospital in Cody.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mangus will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery. Ballard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Frances V. Hovey
SIDNEY - Frances V. Hovey, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at the Sidney Health Center.
Family services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel. Interment will be at the Parshall cemetery, Parshall, N.D., at 11 a.m. (CST). Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney is in charge.
Lyle Seaman
ROUNDUP - Memorial services for Lyle Seaman, 66, formerly of Baker, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, in the Chapel of Stevenson's Funeral Home in Baker. Dorothy Phyllis Trenshaw
DAYTON, Wyo. - Dorothy Phyllis Trenshaw died on Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at her home.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Dayton Community Church. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.

Richard Paul Schneider
MANKATO, Minn. - Richard Paul Schneider, age 50, of Mankato, and formerly of Miles City and Great Falls, Mont., died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Schneider was born on Sept. 2, 1949, in Eau Claire, Wis., to Mel and Edith (Kiernan) Schneider. He was raised and attended schools in Great Falls. He was a 1968 graduate of Great Falls Central. His work experience included Burlington Northern Railroad and M and C Distributing in Miles City. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Mr. Schneider is survived by his partner, Sarah Kuchynka of Mankato; two sons, Richard Schneider and his wife, Deyla of Hoodsport, Wash.; and Jason Schneider of Cheyenne, Wyo.; four sisters, Saundra Matthews and her husband, Sam; and Joey Bailey both of Billings; Linda Clos and her husband, Howard; and Mikel Oleson and her husband, Bruce, both of Great Falls; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Schneider was preceded in death by his parents, Mel and Edith Schneider of Great Falls.
Cremation has taken place and a spring service and burial are planned.
Juanita H. Harris
Juanita H. Harris, 75, of Billings, died of a stroke at Billings Deaconess Hospital Monday, Jan. 3, 2000.
She was born May 3, 1924, in Jamestown, N.D., daughter of Carl and Ruth Hanson. In 1936 the family moved to Billings to stay.
Juanita attended Bil;lings Polytechnic Institute, where she met Arthur Harris. They were married
May 25, 1943, in Billings where they made their home.
Juanita's many interests included gardening, crossword puzzles and playing her organ. She was also a talented seamstress, making many of her own clothes. Juanita enjoyed working part-time in retail and later for Yellowstone County.
She is survived by her husband Arthur; two sons, Michael of Atlanta and Raymond of Lynnwood, Wash.; two grandchildren, Scott of Texas, Joel of Billings; her mother, Ruth Hanson of Billings; her sister, Marian Wilson of Billings, and her brothers, Carl Hanson of Roberts and Robert Hanson of Austria.
Memorial services will held 1 p.m. Thursday in Michelotti Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary. Cremation has taken place.
Rev. Leslie H. Payne
TURNER, Ore. - Rev. Leslie H. Payne, 71, formerly of Miles City, Mont., died on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6, in the Turner Christian Church. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Twin Oaks cemetery. Memorials may be left at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City to be forwarded on to the family. Weddle Funeral Home of Turner is in charge.
Chris Brinkman
PLENTYWOOD - A funeral service for Chris Brinkman will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at Volmer Lutheran Church, near Dagmar, Mont. Pastor Wes Aardahl will officiate and burial will be at Volmer cemetery.
Chris, 93, passed away on Jan. 2, at Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home in Plentywood. He had been in failing health for several years with Parkinson's Disease.
Chris was born in Maple Hill, Iowa, Sept. 11, 1906, the third of four children born to Jens Clausen Brinkman and Nielsine Johansen Brinkman. In 1908, at the age of one and a half, he moved with his parents and siblings Carl and Elna to Dagmar, a Danish homesteading community. Another daughter, Rigmor, was born after the move to Montana.
Chris was confirmed at the Volmer Lutheran Church and was a lifelong member of that church. He attended grade school at the Franklin rural school and he also attended the H.C. Andersen School south of Dagmar. For some years he helped his Dad and his brother Carl with the farming. He also attended Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa, for a short time. He went to Chicago and worked at different jobs, two of which were the International Harvester Co. and Mars Candy Co. Then on to California, where he worked in the vegetable fields around Santa Maria. He also worked in Martinez, Calif., where he made many good friends.
On Jan. 20, 1940, Chris married
Ida Lodahl. To this union four children were born, three boys and a girl. In 1944, Chris and Ida moved to the Brinkman home farm. They have lived there ever since. Chris loved farming and was a hard worker. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was devoted to his church and spent many enjoyable Sundays visiting with good friends and neighbors over coffee.
In the '70s after the youngest son was off to college, Chris and Ida bought a travel trailer and did some traveling. In 1975, they bought a lot and a park model trailer in Mesa, Ariz. Chris and Ida spent more than 20 winters in Mesa. There, Chris made many friends with whom he played golf, went bowling, played pool, played cards, etc. Not to forget the Friday night dances. Son Brian rented the farm after Chris retired in the 1970s.
Chris is survived by his wife Ida of Dagmar. They had been married
60 years. Also surviving are three sons: Phil and his wife Monica and their children; Myla, Evan, Jordan and Gabrielle of Albany, Calif., Brian and his wife Kay and their children; Karleen , Rob, Colin and Liv of Dagmar; Jeff and his wife Vicki and their children; Erin and Alex of Billings, and also surviving are three children of their daughter Paula who passed away in 1988, Jennie, Chris and Sarah Foote of Burlingame, Calif. Chris is survived by one sister, Rigmor Schmitz, living in Chehalis, Wash., a total of 13 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Carl and sister Elna (Mrs. Harvey) Andersen and his beloved daughter Paula Brinkman Foote.
Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood is in charge of arrangements.
Byron D. (Baby Dean) Dawes Jr.
Byron Dean Dawes Jr., 23, of Billings, passed away Monday Jan. 2, 2000, in the Billings St. Vincent Hospital.
ttShiikaak Itche" Good Young Man was born on Sept. 22, 1976, in Crow Agency, a son of Byron Dean and Nadine Backbone Dawes Sr. He was a member of the Big Lodge Clan and a child of the Sore Lip Clan.
He attended grade school in Crow Agency, junior high at Hardin Middle School and finished his high school education at St. Labre Catholic School in Ashland, graduating with honors in 1995. While attending St. Labre, he excelled as a basketball player, being a varsity team member since his freshman year. He started for the team his sophomore year, was co-captain his junior year and captain his senior year, leading his team to many victories.
Byron married
Traci Covers Up on June 3,1995, in Lodge Grass and the couple made their home in Billings.
He started playing basketball in grade school and still enjoyed playing every chance he could, including city leagues and local tournaments, when his job did not interfere. He especially enjoyed taking his boys with him to "gym night" to play basketball. Byron also enjoyed coaching youth basketball for his son's team at the YMCA.
Byron was currently employed by Diversified Transfer and Storage as a truck driver. He was known to be an outstanding employee with any job he held. He was a hard-working man, putting his job ahead of anything else, always striving to care for his family. He was a loving man, who loved spending quality time with his wife and children. He cherished every moment with his family and was a devoted husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pearl Backbone, Lloyd and Shirley Dawes.
Survivors include his wife, Traci and three sons, Jordell, Jalen "Sport" and Trindell, all of the family home; his parents, Byron and Nadine Dawes Sr. of Crow Agency; three brothers, Clay (Dondee) of Washington, Gary and Sheldon Dawes of Crow Agency; one sister, Felicia Dawes of Crow Agency; a nephew, Terrell Frank of Washington; maternal grandfather, Frank Backbone Sr.; maternal uncles, Frank (Calley) BackboneJr. and Shawn (Dewanda) Backbone; maternal aunts, Francine (David) Camden, Darlene (Wayne) LaForge, Noreen (Jacob) Big Hair, Arlene (Robert) Fitch, Donna (Danny) Brien; paternal aunt, Sophie (Leon) Pretty On Top; paternal uncles, Arlo (Colleen), Marvin (Glenda), Larson (Bonnie), Max (Sophia) and Greg Dawes; grandmothers, Mary Three Irons, Ruth Alden, Frances Backbone, Elsie Pretty Paint, Pansy Williamson, Dorcella Little Light, Velma Flores, Louise Dawes, Belva Tushka, Betty Caulfield, Henrietta Pretty on Top; four granduncles, Claude Dawes Jr., John Pretty on Top, Alonzo and Tyrone Ten Bear; and a close friend who took him as a son, Ann Hull of Glendive.
Byron was a kind, gentle, caring, warm hearted person. He touched the lives and hearts of everyone he met. He has left behind many, many good friends and numerous relatives. He will be missed by all who knew bin and loved him.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in the Crow Community Baptist Church in Crow Agency. Interment will follow in the Crow Agency cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Robert G. Jackson, M.D.
Robert G. Jackson, M.D., 74, of Billings, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000. He had been forced to retire from his active medical practice by the ravages of diabetic neuropathy. Bob reluctantly left his beloved patients and devoted his time to his home and garden.
The son of George and Kate (Johnston) Jackson, he was born in Lewistown on April 13, 1925. He graduated from Fergus High School in 1943, and left home to serve his country in WWII, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
After another year of service in displaced persons camps, he returned home in 1946. Upon discharge, he enrolled at DePauw University and completed his undergraduate education at Northwestern University, where he went on to earn his medical degree in 1952.
He was united in marriage to Barbara O'Grady Sims on Dec. 20, 1952. Bob then completed his internship and residency in the Denver hospital system. In 1957, he moved back to Montana, where he began practicing internal medicine in Billings with Walker Honaker, M.D. and later, Thomas Korb, M.D.
Bob will be remembered by many for his daily walks to work. He never missed a day of walking in over 30 years of medical practice, come rain, sleet, snow, or shine. He is recognized by his colleagues for his dedication to the care of his patients, his astutely observant diagnostic skills, and his seemingly photographic memory. Others will remember his love of gardening, animals, story-telling, and love of knowledge and education. After retirement, he returned to his joy of education by attending classes at local colleges. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara.
Survivors include his five children, Anthony, William, George, Stuart, and Rosemary (Schaffer); his special son-in-law, Randy Schaffer and special friend, Eric Elledge; and his three siblings, Katherine, Margaret, and James.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at the First Presbyterian Church. Private interment will be in Mountview cemetery. Art Amundsen
JOLIET - Arthur "Art" Amundsen of Joliet, 82, passed away at his home on Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, of natural causes.
He was born on Oct. 30, 1917, to Mable and Martin Amundsen on the family farm on the banks of the Yellowstone near Joliet. In 1942, he joined the Army and served in the Philippines, receiving the bronze star for bravery. Upon returning home, he married
Lillian McCready on Nov. 24, 1945, and recently celebrated their 54th anniversary.
Art was a master craftsman in the carpentry field and was a long-standing member of the Carpenters Union. He was also a member of the Joliet VFW and the Joliet Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian; his son Arthur, and wife, Pat; granddaughter, Jill; grandson, Jeff; brother, Cliff Amundsen of Joliet; and three sisters, Florence Mennie of Billings, Bea Giambastiani and Helen Kraychir, both of California. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Cindra Rei; and two sisters, Eleanor Weidinger and Martyn Mayberry.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Joliet Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Kayla Amundsen Cancer Fund, c/o the Laurel Federal Credit Union or the charity of your choice. Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings is in charge of arrangements.

Dolores Ann Lundberg
Dolores Ann Lundberg, 69, of Billings, was born Dolores Ann Klipstein to Edward and Ragnald (Vangsness) Klipstein on Jan. 6, 1930. Dolores grew up and attended schools in Billings.
In 1948, she married
Raymond H. White. She became widowed in 1956. She met Donald Cook and married
in 1959 and was widowed again in 1970. Dolores moved to Fargo, N.D., where she had her own monogramming and sewing shop. She met and married
Gerald Lundberg in 1975. After retiring in 1994, they moved to Billings.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald; brother, Edington (Adelia) Klipstein; daughters, Barbara (Ronald) Madole of Rothsay, Minn.; Donna (Donald) Chenze of Sheyenne, N.D.; and Patricia (Robert) Tollefson of Fargo. She has 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Dolores was preceded in death by her previous husbands, Raymond H. White and Donald Cook; a brother, Stanley and his wife, Ethel; and her sister, Lucille and her husband, John Pierce.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Smith Downtown Chapel. Cremation will follow the service. Interment of cremains will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Paula A. Bighorn
WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. - Our cherished mother, daughter and sister, Paula Alice Bighorn, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000. The fourth child of Maurice and Francile Bighorn, she was born in Poplar, Mont., on Dec. 20, 1966.
She resided in Brockton, Mont., for most of her life. She spent several summers working for the Montana Indian firefighters. She was employed with the Ho-Chunk Casino in Baraboo at the time of her death.
Friendly and outgoing, she attracted countless friends who will miss her happy-go-lucky approach to life, her love of God and family, and her beautiful smile. Her warmth and sincerity inspired loyalty and admiration in all she met. Precious are our memories of her. She will remain in our hearts forever. She enjoyed time with family and friends, stitching starquilts with her sisters and supporting her son at his sporting events.
She is survived by her beloved son, Callan Cole Bighorn; her father, Maurice Bighorn Sr.; her brothers, Barry (Estelle) Bighorn Sr.; Maurice Bighorn Jr.; and James Bighorn; her sisters, Joleen (Roy) Emerson; Pam Bighorn; Janice Bighorn, all of Brockton; and Maureen Bighorn, of Lake Delton; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends in Brockton and Wisconsin Dells. She was preceded in death by her mother, Francile LaMere Bighorn; and her nephew: Noah Vaughn Francis Bighorn.
There will be evening services 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the Cultural Center in Brockton. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Cultural Center. Interment will follow at Riverview cemetery in Brockton. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge of local arrangements. Pastor Danny Lindsay of Wolf Point will officiate the services.
