Ronald Robbie Dean Pretty on Top Plays
CROW AGENCY - Ronald Robbie Dean Pretty on Top Plays, 48, of Crow Agency, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, in the Billings Deaconess Medical Center.
His Indian name was Mountain Fog "Awashiixiaassaasha" given to him by Joe Horse Whip Mountain Pocket Sr. by Native American ceremony.
He was born June 6, 1951, in Hardin, a son of Clara R. Bull Tail and Melvin G. Pretty on Top Plays with Himself. He was raised by James and Mayme Medicine Tail. He received his education in Crow Agency, Hardin and Billings, graduating from the Phoenix Indian School in 1970.
During his senior year, he won first and second place at the county and Arizona State Fairs and third place in the National Native American Art Exhibition. He later attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe. Art was his life. In 1979, his art work for the Hukahee Fine Art Gallery was critically acclaimed at the Espace Pierre Cardin in Paris, France.
Robbie married
Dana Irwin in Billings and they had one son, Corbin. They were later divorced.
He resided in the Pryor Creek area and continued working as an artist in New Mexico, Arizona and California.
Robbie was a member of the Sore Lip Clan, a child of the Piegan Clan and a Sun Dance participant, taking part in over 14 ceremonies.
Robbie was preceded in death by his father; foster parents; foster brother, William Medicine Tail; one sister, Maijorie Bull Tail; his grandparents, Marjorie Yellowtail and Grove Stewart.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Clara and Joseph Bull Tail Sr. of Crow Agency; one son, Corbin Plays of Ithica, N.Y.; his stepmother, Regina Pretty on Top; eight brothers, Joseph Buffalo Bull Tail Jr. and Dennis Bull Tail of Crow Agency, Alex Bull Tail Sr. of Pryor, Thomas Bull Tail and Joseph Pretty on Top of Lodge Grass, Garfield Little Light of Billings, Benjamin Buffalo Bull Tail Sr. and Richard Bull Tail Sr. of New Mexico; three sisters, Mabel Pretty on Top of Lodge Grass, Marlene and Danetta Falls Down of Crow Agency; his grandmothers, Winona Plenty Hoops and Lorena Walks Over Ice of Lodge Grass, Agnes Deernose and Pearl Hogan of Crow Agency, Anita Morin of Colorado, Laura He Does It of Fort Smith and Josephine Whiteman of Pryor; his grandfather, Barney Old Coyote; his special uncles, Ronald Stewart, Thomas Stewart, Thomas and Gilbert Glenn, Jesse Philip Yellowrobe, Fred Glassman, John Pretty on Top and Tilton Old Bull; his aunts, Genieve Old Bull, Lona McCallister, Gloria an Susan Stewart
Funeral Services will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Pryor cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Alice M. Reed
OTTER - Alice M. Reed, 89, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, on the ranch near Otter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14, from Ferries Funeral Home. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Ferries Funeral Home is in charge.
Esther Robertson
HAVRE - Esther Edna Rueb Robertson was born in Mound City, S.D., on Nov. 25, 1927, to John and Martha Rueb. In the spring of 1928, her father died and the family moved town area south of Havre known as Laredo. Esther grew up on the family farm there.
In January 1945, Esther moved to Missoula where she worked as a telephone operator. In June 1945, she returned to graduate from Box Elder High School. That summer she took a teacher's training course at Northern Montana College. That fall she started her teaching career at a small country school west of Laredo.
In June of 1946, she married
Kenneth Robertson. They lived in Arkansas and Utah until Kenneth's discharge from the Army in July of 1947. Kenneth and Esther lived in Big Sandy and Shelby before moving to a farm west of Big Sandy in April of 1952. They farmed there until 1982. Esther returned to college in the late 60s and graduated from Northern Montana College with her teaching degree. In her career, she taught at Pleasant View near Laredo; Midway School near Loma; Big Sandy Grade School; Nome, Alaska; Mill Iron, Cleveland; and Zurich.
In 1991, she retired and they moved to Havre where they lived until October of 1999. Esther enjoyed many outdoor activities and sports. In her retirement she especially enjoyed skiing and running. Esther's greatest joy was entertaining and cooking for her family and many friends.
Esther passed away on Dec. 7, 1999, after a three year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; daughters, Connie Myers of Ryder, N.D., and Kate Toyama of Liberty Lake, Wash; son, Randy Robertson of Billings and their nephew, whom they raised, Clyde Wall of Great Falls; and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Vonnie Spicher of Inverness.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Sixth Avenue Christian Church in Havre on Saturday, Dec. 11. Interment will be at Hill County cemetery. A reception will follow at the Sixth Avenue Christian Church. Memorials may be sent to American Cancer Society. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
Annie Smith
SIDNEY - Annie Smith, 73, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care Facility.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at the Assembly of God Church. Interment will be in the Richland Memorial Park. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.
Eugene Solberg
WOLF POINT - Eugene Solberg, 81, died in his sleep Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999.
Visitations will be held 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. at the Clayton Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, at the Clayton Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in Veterans Circle at Greenwood Circle. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge.
William 'Bill' Teichert
BELFRY - William "Bill" Teichert, 91, of Belfry, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, in Cedar Wood Villa in Red Lodge.
Bill was born on Oct. 19, 1908, in Dietz, Wyo., a son of Carl and Lena Teichert. He was raised and educated in the Livingston area, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He married
Mary Hungerford, and they lived at Badger Basin and later in Williston, N.D., where Bill worked as a refinery operator. He retired from Westland Oil Co. in 1973.
They retired to Farmington, N.M., and later lived in Hamilton. Mrs. Teichert died in 1982, and Bill settled in Belfry in 1991.
He was a member of the Belfry Senior Citizens and the American Legion Belfry Post No. 84. Bill was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.
Survivors include one brother, Walter Teichert of Billings; three nieces, Rayola Fink of Las Vegas, Nev., Norma Boeh of Livingston, and Alberta Woods of Springdale; and three nephews, Robert Alkire of Sprlngdale, Charlie Alkire of Big Timber, and Lyle Teichert of Billings.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, in the Olcott Funeral Chapel. Cremation will follow, and interment will be at a later date in Nevada City, Mont.
Jesus Adrian Vigil
POWELL, Wyo. - Jesus Adrian Vigil, 24, a former resident of Powell, died in California on Monday, Dec. 6, 1999.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec.11, at St. Barbara's Catholic Church with interment to follow at Crown Hill cemetery.

William Wagner
POWELL - William "Bill" Wagner, 86, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999.

LIVINGSTON - Elsa C. Wheeler, 89, formerly of Bozeman and Power, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Livingston Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Zion Lutheran Church in Power. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Manchester, near Great Falls. Franzen-Davis Funeral Home is in charge.

Warren John Matte II
FORT BELKNAP - Warren John Matte II, 24, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at the Fort Belknap Hospital.
Wake services will be Tuesday, Dec 7, at the family home on Rt. 8 and Wednesday, Dec. 8, at the Wathatau Community Center on Rt. 8, south of Dodson. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Wathatau Community Center with interment in the Ereaux Family cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge.
Donald Cooper
ROUNDUP - Donald "Coop" Cooper, 49, of Roundup, died Monday Dec. 6, 1999, in a car accident south of Hardin.
He was born Dec 26, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Russell and Elizabeth Cochran Cooper.
"Coop" was raised and attended schools in Ohio. He graduated from Eastern Montana College in 1976 with a degree in education. He taught junior high and high school social studies in the Roundup school until 1994. In that same year he married
Madeline Wamsley on March 18 in Roundup.
Survivors include his wife, Madeline of Roundup; two stepchildren, Jeffrey and Jennalee Rodeghiero of Roundup; three brothers, Dan and Larry of Ohio and David of Florida; two sisters, Rose Knight and Linda Latone of Ohio.
Cremation has taken place and services will be held at a later date. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Heart Assoc. or charity of choice.
David Norris Steele
DAYTON - David Norris Steele, 74, died on Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at Westview Health Care Center.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, at Kane Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow in the Odd Fellows section of the Sheridan Municipal cemetery. A reception will follow at the Dayton Community Hall. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.
John C. 'Jack' Williams
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS - John Clayton "Jack" Williams, 93, formerly of Belfry, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, in Mountainview Medical Center in White Sulphur Springs where he had resided since April of 1998.
Jack was born on April 27, 1906, in Ponoka, Alta., Canada, a son of Herbert and Viola Maude Williams. The family moved to the Luther area when he was 9 years old. Jack attended the Jackson and Draper schools.
On July 19, 1926, Jack married
Anna J. Lorash in Red Lodge. They lived in the Joliet area until moving to the Tolman Ranch at Clark, Wyo., in 1941. After leaving Tolman's, Jack worked on ranches in the White Sulphur Springs area until moving to Belfry in 1984.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers, two sons, two grandsons, and two sons-in-law.
Survivors include three daughters, Laura Nottingham and Viola Braten, both of Belfry, and Patricia Arthun of Joliet; seven sons, Charles of Hardin, Ray of Harlem; Vernon of Lewiston, Idaho; Ronald of Nampa, Idaho; Bill of Joliet; Elmer of Tucson, Ariz.; and Melvin of Amada, Ariz.; one sister, Fern Huver of Minn.; 35 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Jack is also survived by his long-time companion, Carrie Stidham of White Sulphur Springs.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, in the Olcott Funeral Chapel in Red Lodge. Interment will be in the John Henry cemetery.
Tucker Bannack Twardoski
HAMILTON - Tucker Bannack Twardoski, infant son of Tim and Christie Twardoski, died shortly after birth on Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999.
During his time with us, Tucker touched the hearts of those who were blessed to spend a short time with such a special little angel. The strength and love he showed will always have a special place in our hearts forever.
Tucker is survived by his parents of Hamilton, a brother Tim and a sister Tawni; his grandparents, Pete and Vicky Twardoski of Hamilton and Bob and Cheryl Curnow of Billings; great-grandfather, Lawrence Christie of Billings; his uncle and aunt, Mark and Tiffany Frenk and cousins Kaitlyn and Cody Frenk of Billings, and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his short life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11. Meet at the Twardoski home at 423 N. Third St. in Hamilton prior to the service.
