Edward T. Harnden
MILLS, Wyo.- Edward Teasdale "Ed" Harnden, 83, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Wyoming Memorial Gardens with interment in Wyoming Memorial Gardens. Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge.
Edna T. Snell Gray Hawk
POPLAR - Our beloved wife, mother, grandma and sister, Edna T. Snell Gray Hawk (White Whirlwind Woman, Tate-iyu-mni-ska-win) went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999. She was born June 20, 1938, in Poplar to Louis and Lucille Snell. She attended boarding school at Pierre and Flandreau, S.D.
She then married
Stephen Gray Hawk, Sr., on June 20, 1954, in Poplar. Together they had six children. Edna enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading her Bible and sewing quilts for her family members. Her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Stephen Gray Hawk Sr.; one son, Steven Gray Hawk Jr., and wife, Judy; two daughters, Maude Kirn and husband, Dana of Poplar and Patricia Martinez and husband, Jim of Columbia Falls; 10 grandchildren, Steve Lee Gray Hawk, Dennis Gray Hawk, Bria Gray Hawk, Josie Clark Kirn, Chelsea Kirn, Tory Kirn, Bari Kirn, Parker Kirn, Hannah Martinez and Miranda Martinez of Columbia Falls; one great-grandson whom she raised as her own, Austin Burshia; three sisters, Agnes Ward, Margaret Bigleggins and Rose Morsette and one brother, James Snell.
She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Gray Hawk and two daughters, Josie Marie and Barbara Ann.
Wake will be held on Sunday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m., at Assembly of God Church. Services will be held on Monday, Dec. 13, at 10 a.m., at Assembly of God Church with Rev. Roger Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Poplar cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Raymond G. Horyna
LEWISTOWN - Raymond G. Horyna, 87, of Lewistown and former Roy-area rancher, died Thursday at the Central Montana Skilled Nursing Center of natural causes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14, in the Cloyd Chapel with interment to follow in the Lewistown City cemetery. Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge .
William 'Wally' Jarratt
William "Wally" Jarratt lost his six-month battle with cancer on Dec. 9, 1999, at Billings Deaconess Hospital. He was born in Union City, Tenn., to Army Air Force pilot William Wallace Jarratt and Phyllis Wheeler Jarratt.
His family moved frequently because of his father's career, and Wally attended numerous schools. He went to high school in Anchorage, Alaska, and Union City, Tenn. Wally voluntarily joined the army in 1965, serving in Vietnam in 1967-68. In 1968 he married
Brenda Burchard in Union City. He was stationed in Hawaii at the time of his daughter Janice's birth in 1967. In 1976 their son Jack was born in Union City.
After returning from Vietnam, he attended the University of Tennessee at Martin before entering the aluminum extrusion industry as a die corrector at Kinkaid Aluminum. Wally lived and worked in North Carolina, Illinois, Colorado and Texas before moving to Montana in 1986. He worked at a small aluminum extrusion plant in Silesia, Mont., until its closing in 1989.
Wally married
Sherry Sherwood Clark in 1987 in Red Lodge. At the time of his death, Wally was employed by Wal-Mart in Billings.
Wally lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, canoeing, water and snow skiing, tennis, bowling, archery, working with his dogs and playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Sherry of Billings; his sister, Judy Farrar (Gayle) of Union City, Tenn.; his daughter, Janice Holder and son, Jack Jarratt, both of Denver; his step-children: Sonja Kraft (David) and Bucky Clark (Sara) of Laurel; Brandi Sullivan (Justin) and Charles "Chuck" Clark of Billings. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Jeremy, Jennifer, Mario, David John, Kristi, Alexis, Rylee, Ashley and Austin James "AJ"; also, a niece and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
We will celebrate Wally's zest for life 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at the Smith West Chapel; 304 34th St. W. He will always be in our hearts.
Hazel Keefer
WILSALL - Hazel Keefer, 92, of Wilsall, died Dec. 9, 1999, at Aspen Meadows in Billings.
Hazel is survived by five children: George, Beverly, Ray, Edith and Edna; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel with interment in Park City cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wilsall Community Church.
Evelyn M. Kehrwald
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Evelyn M. Kehrwald, 78, died on Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at the Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Kane Funeral Home. Private family interment will be held at a later date.

James Killsnight, Sr. (Ho'evaanestoe)
James Killsnight Sr., 73, died at Deaconess Medical Center in Billings after a short illness on Dec. 8, 1999. He was born on April 2, 1926, on the Rosebud Creek area. He was the son of Willis Killsnight and Carrie Red Robe who preceded him in death. He married
Regina Long Roach on Aug. 9, 1949, in Lame Deer.
James was a quiet man with traditional native beliefs, always encouraging his sons and daughters to be respectful of the traditional ways. He also had a knack of repairing cars and was always willing to help anyone that had car problems, without a charge.
James was also a Sundance priest bundle carrier. He pledged a Sundance during the Vietnam war. He currently was a hereditary member of Crazy Dog Society, an active member of the Native American Church and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
He received his education at the Tongue River Boarding School in Busby, attaining seventh grade.
James worked as ranch hand in Sonnette and in the Kirby area. He worked as a laborer at the Steam Laundry Company in Miles City for several years. He then worked for the coal mine in Colstrip, then sawmills in Ashland and Birney and worked for Bechtel Power Corporation as a member of Laborers' Union 98 for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ralph Killsnight; sister, Mary Killsnight Whitewolf; two sons, Christopher and Xavier (Mr. X.); one grandson, Francis Crooked Eyes, Jr. and one granddaughter, Tonya Gene Killsnight.
He is survived by his companion, Regina;, daughters, Rosanne (Wayne) Headswift, Gertrude (Clovis Wilson) Killsnight, Drucella (Jay) Jones, Velecia (Dennis Littlewhiteman) Killsnight, all of Lame Deer; sons, Marcian (Connie) Killsnight, Anthony, Sr. (Verna Waldon), of Tulsa, Okla., Ferdinand (Althea), James, Jr, and Clem, all of Lame Deer; a sister Lucy Kilisnight. He is further survived by 41 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many dear friends and relatives.
Wake services will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, at the Blessed Sacrament Church Social Room. Funeral mass will celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 1999. Interment will follow at the Lame Deer cemetery.
Everett Edward Lewis
THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. - Everett Edward Lewis, 85, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 10 a.m. at Mortimore Funeral Home. Interment will follow. Mortimore Funeral Home is in charge.
Donald I. McWilliams
SPANAWAY, Wash. - Donald I. McWilliams, 88, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at Allenmore Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash.
Donald was born July 31, 1911 in Lewistown, Mont. He was a longtime resident of Billings and Carson City, Nev., working as a rate clerk for a trucking transportation company.
He served in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge, in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Donald is survived by one brother, Verne McWilliams of Spanaway; one sister, Iris Abbott of Roundup, Mont.; and some nieces and nephews.
Edline-Yahn Funeral Chapel in Kent, Wash., is in charge of arrangements. Private interment will be in Walton's Carson Gardens, in Carson City.

Julia Redden
HARDIN - Julia Redden, 56, of Hardin died suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at her home.
She was born Oct. 23, 1943, in Hardin, a daughter of Dave and Esther Lujan Chavez Sr. She received her education in Hardin.
Julia married
Cleve Redden in 1967 and was later divorced. She lived in Fort Smith, Ark., before returning to Hardin in 1970. She was employed for 14 years at the Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home until becoming disabled in 1989.
She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by a son and her parents.
Survivors include her son, Bud and his wife, Mavis Redden of Hardin; one sister, Margaret Nunez of Colorado; five brothers, George, Fred and Pete Chavez of Hardin, Andy Chavez of Sheridan, Wyo., and David Chavez Jr. of Idaho; and three grandchildren, Kayla, Skylar and Ty.
Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 12, in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 13, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Cremation will follow the services and private interment of the ashes will follow at a later date. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Jerome Roll
Jerome Roll, 96, of Billings, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at his home of natural causes. He was born Dec. 18, 1902, a son of Sebastion and Anna Roll. He married
Lydia Brandner Nov. 29, 1930, in Mott, N.D., and they raised a family of nine children. They farmed in the Mott area and then moved to Montana where they farmed in the Worden area until moving to Billings where he worked for Cop Construction and Al Dryer Plumbing and Heating.
Jerome loved playing pinocle and being with his grandchildren.
He is survived by six sons, Eriven (Leona), Eugene, Joe (Shirley), Raymond (Karen), Leroy (Gloria), and Gary (Connie), all of Billings; two daughters, Violet (Don) Daniels of Edmonds, Wash. and Lorraine (David) Mereness of Lake Stevens, Wash; 32 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia, in May, 1999; his parents; one son; one grandson; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; four brothers; and one sister.
Vigil will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, 8th St. W. and St. Johns. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at Little Flower Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross cemetery. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
Gene Shaw
Loving husband and father, and well-respected petroleum geologist Gene Shaw passed away Dec. 10, 1999, after a long illness.
Gene was born to Mabel Cook Shaw and B.H. Shaw on Dec. 10, 1924, near Inavale, Neb., on his parents' farm as the youngest of three children. He moved with his parents to Boulder, Colo., at the age of 10. There he graduated from high school in 1943. Gene chose to serve his country during World War II and enlisted in the U.S. Navy the day after his graduation from high school. He served for the duration of the war as a radioman and direction finder and then in the Scouts and Raiders in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Mediterranean. After the war, Gene married
Jimmie June Burt on Nov. 27, 1948. Subsequently, he graduated from the University of Colorado with a BA in geology, as well as successfully completing graduate level courses.
Gene began his distinguished career in petroleum geology as a stratigrapher for American Stratigraphic Company. He then worked as a research geologist for Forest Oil Company and then as the Rocky Mountain regional geologist for Monsanto Chemical. In 1967, Gene began working in Billings as an exploration geologist for Cardinal Petroleum. He was instrumental in the formation of Palmer Oil and Gas Company, and later he helped Jim Neilson establish JN Oil & Gas in Billings.
In 1983, Gene and Jimmie June moved to Hawaii where they built a beautiful home. They lived in Hawaii until Gene's ill health forced them to return to the mainland in 1990. They have resided in Billings since that time.
Gene is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jimmie June; son Bradley Howell Shaw and his wife Gina of Peru and their two daughters, Janelle and Cassandra; son James M. Shaw and his wife Lynn of Salt Lake City; and daughter Danna June Shaw of Vancouver, British Columbia, her daughter Brandi Wilson and Gene's great grandson Cody. Gene as proud of his successful and loving marriage with Jimmie June, and of his children. He was also proud of the success he achieved in his profession as a petroleum geologist, which is a career he chose at the age of 12. Throughout his life, Gene set an example of honor, honesty, fairness and intelligence, both in his home life and in his profession. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials in Gene's honor be sent to Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at Smith West Chapel.
Annie Smith
SIDNEY - Funeral services for Annie Smith, 73, Sidney, will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at the Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Ron Fischer and Pastor Ron Masters officiating. Interment will be Richland Memorial Park, Sidney, under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Anna Marya Smith, 73, of Sidney, went home be with her Lord, Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999. Annie was born, Jan. 5, 1926, to Andrew and Alice (Anderson) Jackson of Sidney. She was the first born of twelve children whose names all began with A.
Annie spent her childhood caring for her brothers and sisters and enjoying the family farm in the Yellowstone Valley, which she was very proud of. She attended Sidney Schools, worked at Richland Homes and served in various volunteer positions at the Assembly of God Church.
She instilled Godly values in all of her children.
Annie married
Clarence W. Smith, March 1, 1942. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage, all in Sidney. Her church, family and grandchildren were her life. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, poems, and taking care of her husband Clarence. Annie enjoyed her beautiful flower gardens and being outdoors. She was a bird watcher and loved to take walks in the hills and prairies enjoying the wildflowers and wildlife. Gene remembers her love of the crocus that are in the area around Sidney in the spring. During her last outing, she delightfully gathered two handsful of crocuses.
She raised four children, Linda (Bill) Wetze, Phoenix, Ariz.; Clarence (Peggy) Smith, Billings; Duane (Nancy) Smith, Sidney; and Harlan (Sally) Smith, Casper, Wyo.; grandchildren, Kristen Wetzel, Phoenix; Andrew Smith, Billings; Corbyn, McKenzie and London Smith, Sidney. She is also survived by her mother, Alice, Sidney; brother, Albert, Sidney; sisters, Amy Gurney, Sidney; Alma Forest, Troy;, Alice Olson, Watford City, N.D.; Alda Mae Duran, Reno, Nev.; and Adaleen Ronquello, Billings.
She was preceded an death by her husband, Clarence; father, Andrew; sister and four brothers.

Willard C. Sprenger, 82, died in his home.
