Bruce D. Henderson
COLUMBUS - Bruce D. Henderson, 80, of Columbus, Mont., passed away Dec. 16, 1999, at the Stillwater Community Hospital.
Bruce was born May 10, 1919, at Walton, N.Y., a son of Charles W. and Orra Davis Henderson. He attended elementary school in Accord, N.Y., and high school in Marion N.Y., graduating in May of 1938. He entered the Army on Feb. 13, 1941, and retired from the Air Force on Nov. 30, 1963. While in the military, he served in England, Libya, Germany, Turkey, and various locations in the U.S. His tour with the Air Rescue Service was his most fulfilling as he felt he helped save some lives during that time.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of nearly 54 years; three sons, Steven (Karen) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Glen (Catherine) of Blairsville, Ga., and Dennis of Columbus, Mont. There are five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Terry; a grandson, Adam and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 21 at the Columbus Community Congregational Church. Memorials are suggested to the Stillwater Community Hospital, American Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
Smith Funeral Chapel-Columbus was in charge of cremation and memorial services.

Jeffrey Royal Selwyn
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - Jeffrey Royal Selwyn, 58, of Hollywood, Calif., died of a coronary Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Queen of Angels Hospital in California.
The son of Arthur Selwyn and Avis Sammes, Jeff was born in Great Neck, N.Y. on Nov. 3, 1941. Jeff graduated from high school in Great Neck in 1959.
Before his marriage, he worked in the garment industry and appeared as a dancer on the "Ed Sullivan Show."
Jeff married Marsha Nodler in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 18, 1965. They lived in New York City, N.Y., Huntington, N.Y., Greenville, S.C., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and moved to Billings, Mont. in 1978. While in Billings, Jeff taught dance and martial arts. He assisted with several productions at Billings Studio Theater, introducing his sons to the joys of acting. He also did improvisational acting at Casey's Golden Pheasant. It was Jeff's fondest dream that either he or one of his sons would become a professional entertainer. After the dissolution of his marriage in 1988, Jeff moved to Hollywood, Calif. to pursue his dream. Despite suffering from Tourette's Syndrome, Jeff performed roles in several music videos, commercials and Hollywood films, including "Heat".
Survivors include his former wife, Marsha Selwyn of Billings; his sons, Russ Selwyn and his wife, Susanne of Billings, and Naval Lieutenant J.C1. Reed Selwyn and his wife, Lori of Charleston, S.C.; his father, Arthur Selwyn and his wife Sylvia of New York and his mother, Avis Sammes of New York.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at 1 p.m. at Terrace Memorial Gardens. Reception will follow at Faith Chapel on Shiloh and Broadwater Ave.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tourette Syndrome Foundation, 42-40 Bell Blvd., Suite 205, Bayside, N.Y., 11361-2820.
Dahl Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

George Brychta

George Brychta, 66, died at his home in Billings Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999. He was born in Roundup on Sept. 7, 1933, the youngest son of Anton and Hediok Brychta.
George is survived by his wife, Imelda; sisters, Mary Cuculich and Teresa Brychta of Reno, Nev.; sister-in-law, Jeanette Devine of Roundup; loving nieces and nephews; many good friends and his cow dog, Gypsy; kitties, Miss Liberty and Sir Edwin. Private services are to be held.
Memorials to Big Sky Hospice, 123 S. 27th St., Billings, MT 59107.

William 'Bill' J. Burgess
FAIRVIEW - Funeral services for William "Bill" J. Burgess, 87, Fairview, will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Fairview. Interment will be at the Four Mile cemetery under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Bill was born on Aug. 12, 1912, at Buford, Mont., the first son and middle child of Bruce and Selma (Dybfjord) Burgess. Bill grew and attended school in a log school house in the Nohly Community. Like many of his generation, Bill had his education cut short by hard work and hard times. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Helen M. Hanson, on Nov. 15, 1942, in Fairview at the Fairview Parsonage by Rev. M. L. Holey.
Bill moved through life with quiet dignity and pride, blessing all those who knew him with his absolute integrity and his gentle tolerance of all living things.
Animals thrived in his care and he was a natural mechanic and inventor. William invented a children's toy which was patented in 1960.
Bill died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at the Sidney Health Care-Extended Care Facility.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Sandra Burgess, of Missoula; three sons, Philip Burgess and Steven Burgess, both of Missoula, and Terry Burgess, of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and a grandson, Andrew Burgess.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Selma Burgess; his wife, Helen, and a sister, Mary Cummins.

Lela M. 'Lee' Crenshaw
Lee Crenshaw, 84, of Billings, passed away Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at the Aspen View Care Center.
Lee was born on Dec. 12, 1915, to Charles and Bertha Rickman in Columbus, Mont. At an early age, the family moved to Billings where they operated a truck garden on Garden Ave. In 1935, she married Ernest Crenshaw and they moved to the Pine Ridge south of Pompeys Pillar, where they operated a sawmill until 1994 when they moved to Billings. Lee and Ernest had three children.
Her husband; their daughter, Jeanne Rasmusson and several brothers preceded Lee in death.
Lee is survived by her son, Bill Crenshaw, and his wife, Jan of Sheridan, Wyo.; her daughter, Barbara Walborn of Billings; and her son-in-law Chester Rasmusson of Senora, Calif. Lee had seven grandchildren, Cindy (Doug) Steel, Mike (Michelle) Rasmusson of California, Kymm (Steve) Stark of Shepherd, Ed (Windy) Frick of Billings, Rick (Rhonda) Vanover of California; Cindy (Matt) Vanover of Colorado; eight great grandchildren; two sisters; two brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. During her life, Lee was blessed with many life-long friends, Louise Loveland and Ella Oblender.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 22, at the Smith Downtwon Chapel. Cremation has taken place at Smith Crematory. Interment of ashes will be in Pleasantview cemetery in Ballantine, Mont.

Frank J. Hartman, Sr.
MILES CITY - Frank J. Hartman, Sr., age 82, of Miles City, passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999.
Frank was born on July 4, 1917, at Fayette, N.D., the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Hartman. He attended school near the family farm and in 1938, he joined President Roosevelt's C.C.C.'s and was stationed in Minnesota and Medicine Lake, Mont. On June 5, 1940, he married Mary Elizabeth Held and they lived in Williston, N.D., where he worked for Coca-Cola. In 1941, they relocated to Seattle, Wash., where he served his country during the war as a Shipwright at the Seattle-Tacoma shipyards. On learning of the untimely death of his father, he moved his family back to North Dakota, where he farmed on the Little Knife River in Dunn County. In 1951, he owned a dairy farm near Killdeer, N.D., which he operated until 1956, when he purchased the Kildahl Ranch west of Miles City and where he lived until his death. His wife, Betty preceded him in death.
Frank enjoyed horses, wagon trains, friends and more friends. He drove the lead Custer County Black Circle Wagon in the M-89 wagon train, accompanied by his daughters. He loved music, played the guitar and was a wonderful dancer. He spent many memorable fishing trips and elk hunts with his sons and grandsons. He lived life to the fullest and was always the last to play out. He will be remembered as a captivating storyteller, with a twinkle in his eyes and a grin. Above all, he was a gentleman.
Frank was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Range Riders Museum and the Custer County Wagonmasters.
Frank is survived by his daughters, Arla Jeanne Murray and her husband, Bill of Miles City, Junelle Hartman Thompson of Laurel, Mont., Leila Hartman of Miles City, and Mary Wiesner and her husband, Bob of Billings; sons Paul E. Hartman of Billings, Frank J. Hartman, Jr. and his wife, Janis and David Ross Hartman, both of Miles City. Two daughters preceded him in death, Marlene Carol and Janice Mae Hartman. He also had many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his brothers, George Hartman of Mesa, Ariz., Joseph Hartman and his wife, Irene of Billings, Mike Hartman and his wife, Virginia of Miles City; brother-in-law Gene Held of Williston, N.D.; sisters, Victoria Hartman of Dickinson, N.D., Beatrice Branstetter and her husband, Brad of Oxnard, Calif., and Eleanor Michel and her husband, George of Linton, N.D. Sisters Monica Roller and Betty Frenzel of Yakima, Wash., preceded him in death.
Vigil services will be held on Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, at 6 p.m., in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at 10 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Kevin Christofferson as celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow in the family lot in the Calvary cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart School, Rural Cancer Care or a charity of one's choice.

Kathryn T. Hawkins
DODSON - Kathryn T. Hawkins, 89, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at the Country Home in Malta of natural causes.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at the Adams Memorial Chapel in Malta. Additional services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, at the Shrider's Funeral Home in Ronan with interment in the Mountain View cemetery at Ronan. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge.

Walter G. Henneford
Walter Gordon Henneford, 97, passed away from natural causes on Dec. 14, 1999, in Western Manor Nursing Home in Billings, Mont.
Walter was born on Jan. 10, 1902, in Decatur, Ind. In 1912, he and his family moved to Carter, Mont., and it was here that he completed his high school education. On July 21, 1930, he married Hazel. In 1938, they moved to Fairfield with their two sons, where they owned and operated a variety store and electrical shop. In 1947, the family moved to Choteau where they continued in the variety and electrical business until their retirement in 1964. Love of travel in their motor home allowed them many years of mutual pleasure, enjoying winters in Arizona and their summers in Montana.
Walter was preceded in death by Hazel in 1996. He is survived by his two sons, Jack and his wife, Nancy, of Great Falls, and Gene and his wife, Jan, of Billings, six grandchildren and 1 3 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m at the First Presbyterian Church in Great Falls on Jan. 15, 2000. Cremation took place at Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
Memorials, for those who choose to do so, may be sent to the charity of ones choice.

Joyce Mary Hoeckelberg
WORDEN - Noted volunteer Joyce Mary Hoeckelberg, 68, of Worden, died Dec. l5, 1999, from sudden heart failure at Saint Vincent's Hospital.
She was born in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Frank and Agnes Hanley. As a young woman she worked in Chicago until she met and married Herbert Hoeckelberg of Cedar Lake, Ind., where they lived and raised a family. In 1973, the family moved to Worden, Mont. Already deeply involved in volunteer work in Indiana, Joyce continued to lend a hand in Montana.
As a volunteer, she knitted afghans for the newborn and the ailing, counseled the mentally ill, helped families and visitors at Saint Vincent's Surgery waiting room, staffed a rural library and contributed to the formulation of the 26th Amendment to the Constitution of The United States. To each of these tasks she brought diligence, wit, and a formidable talent for organization. From Nov. 1996 until the day she was stricken, Joyce worked 1, 348 hours at Saint Vincent's as a volunteer.
Residing at the center of a large extended family, Joyce enriched the lives of all who came within her reach. Her husband; a sister, Joan Bednarsky; a brother, Artie Hanley; her daughters, Doris Morrison, Linda Miller, Diane Larson, Mary Huntley, Sherry Hoeckelberg, Terry Hoeckelberg, Kim Hoeckelberg; her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive her.
Memorials services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20 at the Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. West.

Harlan Lee Kostelecky
THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. - Harlan Lee Kostelecky, 51, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident in Wind River Canyon.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at Community Federated Church. Interment will follow at Monument Hill cemetery.

Raymond E. Kurtz
HARDIN - Raymond E. Kurtz, 90, longtime Big Horn County resident, passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at the Big Horn County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 23, 1909, in Jamestown, N.D., a son of Ludwig and Otillie Winkler Kurtz. The family moved to Pease Bottom and later to the north valley near Hardin.
Ray married Marie D. Herbel on May 28, 1934, in Hardin. The couple farmed north of Hardin until retiring in 1971. Marie died in 1984.
He loved to fish, garden and work in his yard.
Survivors include his son, Kenneth and daughter-in-law, Shari Kurtz of Billings; his daughter, Millie and son-in-law, Robert Kehler of Hardin; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hardin, MT 59034.

William M. Manchester
ROUNDUP - William M. Manchester, 79, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at his home in Roundup of natural causes.
Graveside services with military honors with burial of cremains will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at the Roundup City cemetery. Wier Funeral Home is in charge.

Vesta Marman
SIDNEY - Vesta Marman, 81, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care Facility.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at the Peoples Congregational Church. Interment will be in the Sidney cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney is in charge.

Marjorie A. Rose
LEWISTOWN - Marjorie A. Rose, 77, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at her home of cancer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, in the United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the Lewistown City cemetery. Cremation has taken place. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge.

Sarah D. Steadman
VANCOUVER, Wash. - Sarah D. Steadman, 92, formerly of Cody, Wyo., died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, in Vancouver, Wash.
Sarah was born on Oct. 19, 1907, in Coschocton, Ohio.
Sarah practiced law for 50 years with her husband, Oliver, in Cody, Wyo. He died in 1986 and Sarah retired at that time. She lived in Kona, Hawaii from 1989-1996. She was a member of PEO and United Methodist Church in Cody, Wyo. Sarah was an avid bridge player and loved to take car rides and entertain friends. She also liked gardening and flowers.
Survivors are two daughters, Shirley Steadman of Vancouver, Wash., and Martha Steadman Matloff of Geneva, N. Y.; two sons, F. Donley Steadman of Ranchester, Wyo., and John W. Steadman of Laramie, Wyo.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. No services are planned. Davies Cremation and Burial Services were in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Cody United Methodist Church, Box 1416, Cody, WY 82414.

David Streeter
BUFFALO, Wyo. - David Streeter, 68, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at the Amie Holt Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21 from the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Private family interment will be at a later time. Adams Funeral Home is in charge.
