Mary Mai McDougall
In Memory Of Mary Mai McDougall
God saw that she was getting tired and a cure was not to be, so He put his arm around her and whispered "come with me, " With tearful eyes we watched her suffer, and saw her fade away,
Although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, a determined spirit was at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. God looked around his garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, He knew that you were in pain. He knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough, and the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids, and whispered "peace be thine." It broke my heart to lose you, But you didn't go alone. For part of me went with you
The day God called you home.

Marion Fuller Jones Nelson
Marion Fuller Jones Nelson had a distinguished 45-year teaching career. Upon her retirement from 36 years with Lewistown Public Schools, she had only missed a half-day of work, which was to attend her mother's funeral. Her enthusiasm for teaching was paralleled with sharing her gift of music, traveling and many community involvements.
She was the daughter of Mary and Charles Fuller, and was born at her parents' homestead near Glenburn, N.D., on April 4, 1905. She attended high school in Minot, and graduated from Minot State Teacher's college with a bachelor of arts in education and minors in music, physical education and English.
She married
Forrest Ivan Jones while she was a young teacher. School board policies prevalent during the Depression did not allow married
women to continue to instruct, so the marriage was kept secret for some time. After teaching for eight years in several locations in North Dakota, she moved to Montana in 1935 as a widow with three young boys under the age of five. Her three sons were also students in her first grade classroom as they entered primary school.
She was designated as Teacher of the Year in 1960, and was also noted for her devotion to Saint Leo's Catholic Church in Lewistown where she sang high mass daily. She also taught at Saint Leo's school for a year after her retirement from public schools.
In addition to her service to the students of Lewistown and Saint Leo's parishioners, she was active in numerous organizations and professional associations. She served as president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliaries of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge. She was also a member of the Montana State Teachers Association, the Lewistown Teachers Association where she served as president, the National Teachers Association, and the Retired Teachers Association. She was a Life Member of the Parent Teacher Organization, and had perfect attendance at PTO meetings during her career.
Following a 20-year friendship, she married
Leon Wallace "Bill" Nelson in 1973. The couple enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren, as well as activities at the Elks Lodge and in the community. Mr. Nelson died in 1996.
Mrs. Nelson made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1984, one of many trips she enjoyed to Europe, Africa and Alaska.
