ANTONIA ALICE NORTHY
RICHLAND, Wash. — Antonia Northy, 83, passed away Dec. 1, 1999 at her home after a five-year battle with cancer.
Toni was born June 4, 1916 in Red Lodge, Mont., the daughter of Blaz and Mary (Grenko) Schneider. She grew up in Red Lodge and graduated from Carbon County High School in 1934. On April 20, 1936 she married her high school sweetheart, Thomas M. Northy, in Hardin, Mont. They made their home in Red Lodge until 1941 when they moved to Tacoma, Wash., and then to Richland in 1946. Beginning in 1951 and for the next 14 years she was employed as a secretary at the Hanford Energy Works. In 1965 she made a career change and began a course of study leading to a degree as a licensed practical nurse in 1967.
In her later years her greatest fulfillment came from the company of her granddaughters, her great-grandchildren and her three dogs, Laddie, Charlie and Ching.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1987 and her sister, Dorothy Collier.
Toni is survived by her son, Thomas, and his wife, Kathleen, of Richard; granddaughters Kimberly and her husband, Richard Stephens of Mount Horeb, Wis., and Kristina and her husband, Kim Boynton of Spokane; great-grandchildren Nathaniel, Elizabeth and Benjamin Stephens and Jessica and Emily Boynton; sisters, Vida Brown of Richland and Rose Danichek of Coleville; sisters-in-law Marjorie Boggio of Red Lodge, Joy Brandt of Powell, Wyo., Regina Haggerty of Orangeville, Calif., and Lillian Northy of Corning, Calif., and brother-in-law Bill Northy of Corning, Calif.
Cremation and inturnment have taken place at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Richland. At her request, no services were held.

LEE RICHARDSON
FROMBERG — In a log cabin east of Fromberg on Two Bear Ridge, John “Lee” was born, the only child of Jeff and Lillie Richardson. The date was July 22, 1916, and Lee continued living there and later became a successful rancher and farmer.
Lee attended and graduated from the Fromberg Public School in 1935. After he started farming, he married Thelma Miller in 1944, and together they raised three children. On Dec. 24, 1999 Lee passed away at the Eagle Cliff Nursing Home in Billings.
Lee was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and had been an active Fromberg School Board member for many years. As a father, he taught honesty and virtue, not with words but by example. He truly enjoyed his life on the ranch. He loved the hills and was always catching and taming some little animal to raise as a pet. He loved being with his family and will definitely be missed by all who knew him.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999 at the United Methodist Church in Fromberg. Memorials may be made to Fromberg United Methodist Church or a charity of one’s choice. Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma; children, Terry Richardson of Red Lodge, Charlotte (Albert) Foos of Fromberg and Jason (Wanda) Richardson of Fromberg, and six grandchildren, Kristi and Brian Foos, and Lindsay, Courtney, Ashley and Jeffrey Richardson.
EVA JOSEPHINE BROWN
MILES CITY — Eva “Josephine” Brown, 85, of Miles City, formerly of Red Lodge, passed away Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999 at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Josephine was born Jan. 24, 1914 in Bridger, the daughter of Clarence and Goldie (Gebo) Thompson. She moved to Red Lodge in 1919, where she graduated from high school in 1933. On Jan. 8, 1934, Josephine and George Brown were united in marriage in Big Timber. To this union, three children were born. Years later, Josephine went back to school and became an LPN. She worked in Red Lodge for ten years until retiring. They remained in Red Lodge until 1992, when they moved to Miles City.
She was the past president of the Eagles Auxiliary, and past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star #32, of which she was a member for 50 years. Josephine enjoyed making afghans and crocheting. She made an afghan for every member of her family. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, George, of Miles City; two daughters, Nancy Larsen of Miles City and Shirley Burton and her husband, Glen, of Broadus; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, James, and two brothers.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 27, 1999 in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City, with Rev. Robert Thaden, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in the Red Lodge Cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
RONALD F. LEATHERBERRY
BRIDGER — Ronald F. “Ronnie” Leatherberry, 77, went to be with Our Lord on Dec. 23, 1999 after a short illness.
Ronnie was born June 4, 1922 in Greenwood, Wis. He came to Montana in 1947, where he met the love his life, Dorothy Kowis. They were married June 22, 1949. Ronnie farmed and worked construction all of his adult life.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Bridger; his children, Donna and Mark Darkenwald of Park City, Jim and Jane Leatherberry of Edgar. Dan and Sally Leatherberry of Yakima, Wash., Tom and Vikkie Leatherberry of Billings, Guy and Debbie Leatherberry of Bridgewater, S.D., Chester Leatherberry of Billings and Ede and Kim Bauwens of Fromberg; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his two sisters, Norma (Dick) Roessler of Arden Hills, Minn., and Maxine (Buck) Dorman of Beloit, Wis.
Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date. Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel is in charge of arrangements.
ELEANOR J. OTTERO
DENVER — Eleanor J. Ottero was born Sept. 21, 1922, and died Dec. 22, 1999.
Eleanor enjoyed coming to Red Lodge every summer since she married Remo Ottero.
Survivors include her husband, Remo, of Commerce City, Colo.; sons Jack of Westminster, Colo., Richard of Denver and Michael (Alice) of Payson, Ariz., and a daughter, Jean (Andrew) Skeens of Fort Collins, Colo. She also is survived by 12 granddaughters, two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.

RICHARD “DICK” SIPES
FROMBERG — A memorial for Richard “Dick” Sipes, 78, of Fromberg, is set for 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30 at the United Methodist Church of Fromberg.
Cremation or Funeral Gallery of Billings is handling arrangements.
EDWARD "ED" KAUFMAN
FROMBERG — Edward Michael Kaufman died peacefully at his home in Fromberg on December 29, 1999 surrounded by his wife and many family members. Ed was born at Lefor, N. Dak. on September 23, 1926, the son of Peter and Elizabeth Kaufman. He was raised on a farm in the Lefor area. Ed met his sweetheart, Mary Kathrein, his wife of 52 years, while she was teaching school in North Dakota.
Ed served his country in the Army during World War II. Following his military service, Ed and Mary were married on September 23, 1947. They farmed in North Dakota until moving to Laurel, Mont. in 1956, where he held several different jobs over the years. The family moved to Fromberg in 1963, where he lived until the time of his death.
Ed was preceded in death by an infant son; his parents, Peter and Elizabeth Kaufman; and a brother, Carl Kaufman. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kathrein Kaufman, devoted and loving wife of 52 years; nine children; thirty grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. His children and their families include Evelyn (Dan) Hall, Bob Kaufman, Carol (Harvey) Nott, Ken (Elizabeth) Kaufman, Donna (Dale) Oe, Curt (Tammy) Kaufman, Edward (Vicki) Kaufman, Jr., Doug (Shirley) Kaufman, and Arnie (Deanna) Kaufman. His surviving brothers and sister are Peter (Hilda) Kaufman, Mary (John) Wegh and Elven (Kathy) Kaufman. Ed's greatest joy in life was his wife and family.
Cremation has taken place. A vigil service will be held Monday, Jan. 3, 2000 at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fromberg. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Rite of Committal in Rockvale Cemetery. Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Clark's Fork Ambulance, Bridger, Mont. or to the charity of one's choice.
ROBERT L. “BOB” PHILLIPS
RED LODGE — Robert L. “Bob” Phillips, 70, longtime Red Lodge resident, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999 at Red Lodge.
A son of early Italian and Welsh immigrants Joseph and Beatrice Phillips, Bob was born July 24, 1929 at Red Lodge.
“Big Bob” attended Red Lodge schools and then served with the U.S. Army as a combat engineer during the Korean War. Upon his discharge in 1953, Bob drove truck for the Red Lodge Brewing Company, the Red Lodge Canning Company and then faithfully served the City of Red Lodge for 36 years. On Oct. 23, 1954 he married Pierina E. Boggio in Red Lodge and raised his family there.
Bob was a 47-year member of the American Legion and was a past Post 17 Commander and a past District 11 Commander. Bob enjoyed the quiet times at home, a good joke and especially time spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by wife Pierina of the family home, daughter Jeannie (Dennis) Purcell of Red Lodge, sons William (Carla) Phillips of Forsyth, Robert (Julie) E. Phillips, Elko, Nev., Fred (Joyce) Phillips, Red Lodge, Thomas (Chris) Phillips, U.S. Army in Florida, Jerry (Karen) Ransdell, Mesquite, Nev., Richard (Donna) Ransdell, Great Falls, and James (Bonnie) Ransdell of Red Lodge; a brother, Jimmy Phillips, Red Lodge; a sister, Sarah Bell of Pasco, Wash.; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Frank, Joe and Richard Phillips, and a sister, Pauline Bell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22 in the Olcott Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Red Lodge Cemetery.
