Melvin 'Bud' Erickson
GLASGOW - Melvin "Bud" Erickson, 65, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, in Williston, N.D. of heart failure.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at First Lutheran Church with interment in Highland cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

Jan Grosh
MEETEETSE, Wyo. - On Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, we lost my wife, and my mother, Jan Grosh. She entered this world 71 years ago on Oct. 1, in Willcox, Ariz. as Janice Williamson, with her twin sister, Joyce. There she spent the next 32 years. She graduated from Willcox Union High School in 1946, and then attended the University of Arizona at Tucson. In 1950, she married George Grosh. Oct. 3, 1960, she and her family became Wyoming residents and moved to Meeteetse the following June. That fall she started working at Meeteetse Schools as the accountant and school boards secretary. She resigned her position seven years later to become the owner and operator of the Little Store, a small grocery store, located next to the present Meeteetse Bank Museum. Also during that same period she was a four-term member of the School Board. She closed the Little Store in the summer of 1973. After a brief retirement, she went to the work at the Meeteetse Mercantile and worked there until going to work as the accountant for the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in 1976. She retired in 1991. She later volunteered and acted as treasurer for the Meeteetse Museums. Besides being a proficient accountant, she loved her family and friends and animals (especially large dogs, fuzzy cats, and red roan horses.) Her hobbies included gardening, camping, and fishing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Mildred (Fairweather) Williamson; her sisters, Peggy Panchalk and Joyce Plough; two twin brothers; and her son, George (Puncher) Grosh III.
Her husband, George, her daughter, Meg Nicholson, and her granddaughter, Nicole Nicholson survive her.
She requested to be cremated and to have no funeral services.
Memorial donations may be made to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center or the Chase Hawks Crisis Fund at the Meeteetse Community First Bank, Meeteetse, WY 82433 in Jan's memory.

Frieda Sophia Herren
GREYBULL, Wyo. - Frieda Sophia Herren, age 93, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at the Wyoming Retirement Center at Basin, where she had been residing since November 1984.
Frieda was born on Aug. 25, 1906, in Du Bois, Neb., the daughter of John and Sophia (Kunz) Reist Sr. Frieda was the youngest of nine children.
Frieda received her schooling in Burns, Kan. She came to Greybull in 1933, where she worked at the Shell Creek Ranch. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, sewing, hooking rugs, and ceramics.
Frieda married Hans Herren on Dec. 11, 1935 at Greybull.
Frieda was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church at Greybull and was active at the Senior Citizen Center at Greybull.
She is survived by four sons: Johnny Herren and wife, Georgie of Greybull; Paul Herren of Greybull; Dr. Roy Herren, DVM and wife, Loretta of Billings, Mont.; and Harry Herren and wife, Donna of Greybull; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hans Herren on July 5, 1964; three sisters, and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church at Greybull. Reverend Lowell Kyser will be officiating. Burial will follow at Odessa cemetery at Shell.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at the Atwood Family Chapel at Greybull from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established at the First Interstate Bank at Greybull, with proceeds to go to the Odessa cemetery at Shell.
Atwood Family Funeral Directors Inc. are in charge of arrangements.

Archie Winston Lowthian
Archie Winston Lowthian, 77, of 1825 Patricia Lane, passed away Sunday morning, at St. Vincent's Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born June 25, 1922, in Scobey, the son of Phil S. and Georgetta C. Lowthian. He was raised on a farm in the Butte Creek Community, ten miles northwest of Peerless. He attended the Butte Creek country school for eight years, after which he graduated from Peerless High School. Following graduation, he attended Ursaline Academy in Great Falls and Northern Montana College in Havre. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942. Following World War II, he attended the University of Montana at Missoula where he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity graduating in Accounting. On June 12, 1946, he was united in marriage to Betty Mae Noblitt of Denton.
For 23 years, he was employed by Stanolind Oil and Gas Company (now Amoco Production Co.) in Casper, and Midwest Wyoming, and in Tulsa, Okla. He then worked for Oil Resources in Billings and later worked for the Billings School District from which he retired in July, 1980. He moved to Denton where he resided for 16 years returning to Billings in August of 1996. Archie attended the Shilo Methodist Church. He was a member of Rimrock Lodge 149, Billings Valley of the Scottish Rite, the Al Bedoo Shrine, also of Billings, Order of the Eastern Star, and a life member of the American Legion.
Archie never met a stranger, as he enjoyed people from all walks of life. He was very active in scouting in his early years, and started and participated in many investment clubs. He enjoyed playing cards, and chess with special friends and family. He truly loved life, his family, and friends. He was a kind, gentle and loving man. Archie had a favorite saying, "The best things in life aren't things, " as people were always his treasures.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Mae; a son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Kristine, of Nashville, Tenn., Mary Pat Lowthian of Billings; four grandchildren; a sister, Lois Fladager of Peerless; a brother and sister -in-law, Wayne and Adeline Lowthian of Scobey; a niece, several nephews and cousins.
Michelotti Sawyers on Alderson will be handling the arrangements. The services will be held at Shilo Methodist Church, on Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999 at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at the Scobey cemetery on Friday.
Memorials can be sent to the Scottish Rite Cancer Transportation Van at 514 14th St. W., Billings, MT 59102.

Col. Willard T. 'Casey' Brannon
BENBROOK, Texas - Col. Willard T. "Casey" Brannon, 76, retired USAF, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, in Benbrook.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Fort Worth. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at the Greenwood Chapel at Greenwood Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Graceland cemetery at Jermyn. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Willard Theodore Brannon was born May 9, 1923, in Billings, to Maggie and Louis Brannon. After graduation from Billings High he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He participated in the China-Burma-India Campaign in World War II, and he was a weather man/typhoon hunter in the Pacific. He also participated in the rocket development program at the White Sands Missile Range. As a communications officer he was commander of the 33 communications squadron at March AFB.
He married Willie Conley, of Jermyn, on Aug. 22, 1948, in Fort Worth. They enjoyed traveling and raising three daughters as an Air Force family. In 1973 he retired after 30 years of service in the Air Force and moved his family to Fort Worth. He worked for Management Recruiters of Arlington until he retired. Casey and Willie continued to travel and visit family and Air Force friends for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Brannon, in 1998.
Survivors include his daughters, Geri L. Wellborn and her husband, Gary of Norman, Okla., Cristie Moss and her husband, Randy of Fort Worth and Lt. Col. Tracey A. Walker and her husband, Marvin of Hurlburt AFB, Fla.; his mother, Maggie Brannon of Billings; a sister, Bernice Grosjean of Afton, Wyo.; six grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.

Ada R. Brown
LAUREL - Ada R. Brown, 88, of Laurel, passed away at her home on Sept. 30, 1999 of natural causes.
Ada was born Jan. 2, 1911, to Elmer and Martha Coombs in Laurel.
On Aug. 26, 1931, Ada married her husband Fred. Together they had two children, Elmer "Chub" Brown and Don "Buster" Brown.
Ada lived and farmed in Laurel along with her husband until moving closer to town, where they both worked for the Laurel School District.
Ada loved to crochet, play the piano, and listen to music. She loved her grandchildren very much.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Fred.
Ada is survived by her two children, Elmer "Chub" Brown and wife, Audrey of Conrad, Don "Buster" Brown and wife, Ardyth of Corvallis, Ore.; sister, Yvonna "Vi" Brown of Laurel; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be Monday, Oct. 4, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel. Visitation will be Sunday, 1-9 p.m. at Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel. Memorials may be made to: Laurel Gardens, 313 Eighth Ave. S.

Elmer Bucholz
MILES CITY - Elmer Bucholz, 83, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at the Holy Rosary Hospital.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the Wesleyan Church with interment at 2:30 p.m. in the Greenwood cemetery in Wolf Point. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home is in charge.

Agnes E. Dull
LEWISTOWN - Agnes E. Dull, 92, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at the Central Montana Skilled Nursing Center.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the Creel Funeral Chapel.

Alma M. Dyer
Alma M. Dyer, 69, of Billings, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at Billings Deaconess Hospital after a long struggle with heart disease. She was born Nov. 18, 1929, in Roundup, a daughter of Henry and Marie E. Peil Goehring. Alma was educated in Roundup where she graduated in 1948. She worked for Midland Implement for more than 40 years before retiring in 1995.
She was very active in bowling, being inducted into the Montana Bowling Hall of Fame. Alma has also served as president and secretary of the Montana Women's Bowling Association for many years. Her hobbies included crocheting, crafts, and cards, especially pinochle. Alma was a member of the West Side Baptist Church.
Alma is survived by her daughter, Karen (Doug) Bloomdahl of The Dalles, Ore.; a sister, Frances (Robert) Charlton of Billings; a brother, Edwin (Joan) Goehring of Vancouver, Wash.; three grandchildren, Pamela Rosette, Ryan and Gary Bloomdahl; and one great-grandchild, all of The Dalles; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the West Side Baptist Church, 323 S. 32nd St. W. Memorials may be made to the Church or the American Heart Association. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Norman A. Jordet
COLUMBUS - Norman A. Jordet, 83, of Columbus, died on Oct. 1, 1999, of natural causes.
Norman was born on Sept. 6, 1910, to George and Magda (Monson) Jordet.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Reedpoint and later Columbus. He and his wife Marie ranched south of Reedpoint for many years. He also worked at the ship yards in Vancouver, Wash., and the Sugar Beet Factory in Billings. He belonged to the American Lutheran Church in North Dakota.
Norman enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, and a good game of pinochle with his family and friends. He taught a lot of young boys mechanics.
Norman is survived by his wife, Marie; two sisters, Eleanor Long arid Delia Driscoll; a son, Dennis Jordet; a daughter, Rosalie Peterson and her husband, David; grandchildren, Heath, Jerry and Ronnie; six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ronald Jordet; two sisters, Olga and Celstine; one brother, Carl.
He was a good neighbor and a good friend to many people. We will all miss him.
Memorial Service will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at the Reedpoint Evangelical Church. Inurnment at the Reedpoint cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Maxine Dorothea Keup
WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. - Maxine Dorothea Keup, 80, formerly of Billings, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver from complications after an accidental fall.
Services were Friday, Oct. 1, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Aurora, Colo. and interment will be in Ennis, Mont. at a later date. St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Ennis will be in charge.

Hertha Kogele
MILES CITY - Hertha Kogele, 79, formerly of Circle, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Holy Rosary Extended Care.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with interment in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery.

Arlene D. Leibach
Arlene D. Leibach, 73, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, in Pocatello, Idaho.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the Medicine Lake cemetery in Medicine Lake.

Wilbur Dwight Mann
WOLF POINT - Wilbur Dwight Mann, 84, of Wolf Point, passed away at his home on Oct. 1, 1999, after a short battle with acute leukemia.
Wilbur was born Jan. 22, 1915, in Stryker, Ohio, to John and Nancy (Bowers) Mann. In June 1916, the family moved from Ohio and homesteaded 35 miles north of Wolf Point in the Benrud Community. Wilbur attended Pershing School and farmed with his father, John, and uncle, Charles Mann.
On Dec. 8, 1940, in Wolf Point, Wilbur took Edna Amelia Kettner as his bride. Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage. Wilbur worked on the family farm until 1978 when he semi-retired.
Wilbur was a dedicated husband to his beloved wife, Edna, who resides at Faith Lutheran Home. He devoted his time and love visiting Edna throughout each day. We remember Wilbur as a loving, caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Wilbur loved to garden and often shared his organically-grown produce with many in the community. He was a wonderful Grandpa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wilbur loved reminiscing about the good ol' days, listening to his favorite music, reading and having coffee with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Edna; his son, John of North Wolf Point; his daughter, Patricia Mingus of Higgins, Tex.; grandchildren, Kim, Jim and Charles Mann, Tim Chad Mingus and Julie Mingus Cooper; great-grandchildren, Austin Mann, Kalli and Elizabeth Mingus, Cameron and Olivia Cooper; and a sister, Emma Stai of Billings.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Kathleen Mann; grandson, Shawn Mann; sisters, Mrs. Doris Brookman and Mrs. Alta Fromdahl; and brother, Arthur Mann.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Visitations will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3 at he chapel. The Rev. Fr. Steve Zabrocki will officiate at the service and burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Dora L. Nelson
HARDIN - Dora L. Nelson, 91, of Hardin, formerly of Westby, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, in the Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 10, 1908, in Cannon Falls, Minn., a daughter of Otto and Freda Lindstrom Enger. As a child, she moved with her parents to a homestead north of Westby. She attended schools in Westby and was a member of the first graduating class from Westby High School in 1925.
Following her education, she worked as a U.S. Postal Clerk and later for the Westby Meat Market. She married Tony Nelson on Feb. 3, 1929, in Westby, and the couple owned and operated a shoe store for many years. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before Mr. Nelson died in 1991.
She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Quilting Club, the Jolly Twelve Card Club, Westby Civic Improvement Club and the Senior Citizens. She enjoyed her yard, flowers, family and playing wiske.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sharon Patricelli; one sister, Marjorie Peterson; and one brother, Raymond Enger.
Survivors include her daughter, Marlene (Dr. Robert) Whiting, Jr. of Hardin; her four grandchildren, Lois, Marc, Craig and Shelly, and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, in the Westby cemetery. Memorial funeral services will be held 2 p.m. in the Westby Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the local arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the HEP Club, Hardin MT, Big Horn County Memorial Hospital Nursing Home Activity Fund, Hardin, MT.
