Dorothy M. Steele
WORLAND, Wyo. - Dorothy M. Steele, 83, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Washakie Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at the Veile Mortuary. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at the United Methodist Church with interment at Riverview cemetery.

Carl Wegner
Carl Wegner, of Billings, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at Eagle Cliff Manor. He was 93.
Carl was born on Aug. 30, 1906, to Edward and Wilhelmina Wegner in the village of Susannental, Russia. In 1913 he immigrated with his family to America, settling in the Billings area. In February of 1930, he married Ella Nauman. They moved to Absarokee where they ranched until 1936, at which time they moved back to Billings. Carl spent time farming and then worked as a truck driver for Sweetheart and Sawyer's.
After retiring, Carl enjoyed traveling with his wife and dachshund in their trailer to visit their children and grandchildren. He enjoyed playing cards and reminiscing about the old days. Also, every Saturday night, Carl loved to spend the evening dancing the polka.
Carl is survived by his four children and their spouses: Doris McClure and Cecil of Eureka, Mo., Ralph Wegner and Joanne of Tracy, Calif., Kenneth Wegner and Judy of Maple Valley, Wash., and Marvin Wegner and Marianne of Billings. He is also survived by his brothers, Earl Wegner of Bremerton, Wash., Solomon Wegner of Powell, Wyo., and Edward Wegner of Billings, and his sisters, Amelia Nauman of Billings, and Mary Knuettal of New London, Wis. He has 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella in 1998, his parents; and his sisters, Dorothy Ottolino, Minnie Chapman, and Rose Ennis.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 537 Grand Ave., Billings. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family suggests that memorial gifts be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor's choice. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will begin at noon Monday.

Lillian Gladys Burklund
TEMPE, Ariz. - Lillian Gladys (Clark) Burklund, daughter of William Henry Clark and Maude Elsie (Frank) Clark, was born on Jan. 25, 1907, in Butte, Mont. She died at the age of 92 on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at the home of her daughter, Marian in Tempe.
Lillian was raised and attended school in Butte. Her marriage to William John (Bill) Burklund took place on June 14, 1927, at her parents' home. In 1938 they were transferred by the Otis Elevator Company to Billings, Mont. Lillian lived in the family home until 1982 at which time she moved into Sage Tower Retirement Home. In 1991 she moved to Redmond, Wash., to make her home with her daughter, Robin. In 1997 Lillian moved to Tempe to make her home with her daughter, Marian.
Lillian was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Billings, Redmond Presbyterian Church in Redmond, Eastern Star in Billings and in Redmond, Compass Club, Deaconess Hospital Volunteer and Blood Bank Volunteer.
Lillian is survived by four daughters: Carol and her husband, David Hopkins of San Diego, Calif.; Marian of Tempe; Wilma and her husband, John Timmons of Yelm, Wash.; Robin and her husband Gary Gray of Redmond, Wash.; three sons, John of Helena, Mont., William Carl of East Moline, Ill., Roy Scott of East Moline; brother, Frank Clark of Butte; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. All of her children visited her prior to her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and one brother.
Memorial services and a family reunion will be held in Yelm in the Summer of 2000.

Wendell J. Chenoweth
SHEPHERD - Wendell J. Chenoweth, age 44, of Shepherd, passed away at his home on Oct. 6, 1999. He was the son of Doyle and Irene Chenoweth and was born in Billings on Jan. 6, 1955. He moved with his parents to Trout Creek, where he attended grade school. He graduated from Noxon High School in 1973. He married Mary Coonce on July 19, 1984 in Couer d'Alene, Idaho. Wendell became a fire fighter for a few years, then a logger, and was a reserve deputy for Sanders County.
He enjoyed life in general, and the outdoors.
Wendell is survived by his wife of 15 years; sons, Michael Allen (Denise) Chenoweth and their children, Jordyn and Damon, and Tanner J. Chenoweth; and a daughter, Nicole Lyn Chenoweth. Also his parents, Doyle and Irene; two brothers, Ron and Darrell Chenoweth; and a sister, Joyce Chenoweth; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at the Bethlehem Congregational Church in Worden. Memorials may be made to his children.

Emma Diedrick
Emma (Berreth) Diedrick, 94, passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at the Western Manor Nursing home.
She was born on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1904, to George and Elizabeth Berreth, the oldest of six children, in Carson, N.D. She was confirmed to the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Carson, N.D., in June of 1918. Her family moved to Billings in 1937 and became members of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
She married Joseph Michael Diedrick, Jan. 3, 1940, in Hardin, and the couple resided in the Billings area until his death in 1960. She remained in Billings until her death.
She is survived by her brother, Milton (Lydia) Berreth of Mandan, N.D., his sons, Dale Berreth of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Gary Berreth of Bismarck, N.D.; a niece, Wanda Burgeson of Missoula; nephew, Danny Berreth of Billings; niece, Ida Kehm of Billings, and her three children: Ed (Julie) Singer of Whitefish, Pat Singer of Billings, and Mary (Del) Hewitt; and one great-great nephew, Dustin Massey of Bayard, Neb.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, George and Elizabeth; husband, Joseph M. Diedrick; brothers: Manuel, Arthur (Charlie), Helmuth and Milton; and one sister, Linda Burgeson.
Viewing will be held at the Smiths Funeral Chapel Downtown location until the funeral services at Smith's Funeral Chapel West End location on Monday, Oct. 11, 1999 at 10 a.m. with burial services at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m.
Her family would like to extend a special Thank You to the Staff of the Western Manor Nursing Home for making her last years easier.

Floyd Jacobson
Floyd Jacobson, 95, of Billings, former longtime Miles City resident, passed way Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, of natural causes.
He was born July 1, 1904, in Forest City, Iowa, a son of George and Mary Fischer Jacobson. He moved with his parents to a homestead in Cleveland, N.D., before moving to Miles City in 1914.
Floyd married Elsie Ruff in 1929, and the couple made their home in Miles City. Mrs. Jacobson died in 1989.
Before World War II, the couple operated a poultry farm and contracted to supply Civilian Conservation Corps camps near Terry. During the war, the couple worked in the Bremerton, Wash., shipyards, returning to Miles City after the war. They continued their poultry business, built homes and operated the Tongue River Stage mail route for several years.
He was a member of the Miles City Moose Lodge and the Eagles Lodge. Floyd enjoyed square dancing, round dancing, reading and working with wood.
In 1996 he moved to Billings to be near his family. For the past two and a half years, he has received excellent and loving care at the St. John's Nursing Home.
Survivors include his daughter, Shirley Gackle of Billings; a son, Dr. Robert Jacobson of Valley Springs, Calif.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, in the Custer County cemetery. Interment will follow in the family plot. Bullis-Graves Memorial Chapel of Miles City has been entrusted with the arrangements. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Billings Bible Church, 802 N. 27th St. Billings, MT 59101.

Jacob C. Latka
SIDNEY - Jacob C. Latka, 94, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at the Sidney Health Center-Extended Care Facility.
Wake service will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at the St. Matthew's Catholic Church with interment in the Sidney cemetery.

Theresa Margaret MacMillan
Theresa Margaret MacMillan, 79, of Billings, passed away Friday morning, Oct. 8, 1999, at her home. She was born Nov. 21, 1919, to Thomas and Lucy (Bollman) MacMillan in Munising, Mich.
Theresa graduated from Mather High School in 1938 and later attended Sheboygan County Teachers College in Sheboygan Falls, Wis. She came to Billings from Michigan in 1974 and worked at Hatch's Card and Gift Shop, and also at Copperfield's Book Store, before retiring in 1985.
She loved reading and traveling, and her hobbies included crafts and photography. Theresa enjoyed taking pictures of family and friends gatherings and she had a special fondness for taking scenery, especially the beautiful mountains and rivers in Montana, and her beloved Lake Superior and forests in Michigan. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Billings and a charter member of the Alger County Historical Society in Munising.
Survivors include her three brothers: Thomas of Belleview, Fla., Donald of Clermont. Fla., and Ormand MacMillan of Ocala, Fla.; her dear friend, Dorothy Parker and her family; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at Grace United Methodist Church. Memorials may be directed to Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107-5033. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Steven Robert Oliver
Steven Robert Oliver, 37, of Billings, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Benefis Health Care Center, Great Falls, of injuries sustained when pinned beneath a bus.
The son of Bill and Marilyn Oliver, Steve was born May 8, 1962, in Concord, Calif. He graduated from Billings Senior in 1980. In 1982 Steve entered the Air Force. Following his discharge in 1993, he returned to Billings and attended Montana Sate University-Billings. Steve had been on the National Dean's List and was commander of ROTC. In August, 1997, Steve began working for Rimrock Stages, where he was a mechanic and relief driver.
He enjoyed fly fishing, golf, bowling, and roller hockey as well as all spectator sports, reading and computers.
Survivors include his parents, Bill and Marilyn Oliver of Peoria, Ariz.; his wife, Brenda of Billings; four children: Siobha and Kristin of Billings, Mikel Oliver of Billings, and Steven Oliver of Eldorado Hills, Calif.; his sister, Kathy Dreiling of Santa Ana, Calif.; and six brothers: Bill of Concord, Calif.; Dan of Antioch, Calif.; Jim of Deer Lodge; David of Klamath Falls, Ore.; Mike of Stockton, Calif.; and Rick of Bismarck, N.D.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at St. Bernard's Parish. Memorials may be made to the Steven Oliver Family Fund, c/o Norwest Bank, 175 N. 21st, Billings, MT 59101. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Selma Christina Peterson
GLASGOW - Selma Christina Peterson, 91, of Glasgow, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999.
Selma was born to her loving parents, Simon and Mary (Johnson) Bakken on March 10, 1908, in Nekoma, N.D. She attended high school and common school obtaining a teaching certificate. After teaching several years, she married her high school sweetheart, John P. Peterson, on Nov. 13, 1934. Together they owned and operated Peterson Lindamood Music in Billings. John passed away in 1985 and Selma continued to reside in Billings until 1991, when she moved to Glasgow to live at Nemont Manor. She broke her hip in 1998 and had been living at Valley View Nursing Home since that time.
Selma will always be remembered for her unselfish, loving and caring personality. She was always the care-giver and was more concerned about the well being and happiness of others than herself. She was guided by her steadfast faith in God and reflected His love in her daily life.
Selma was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; a sister, Esther Manley, of Devils Lake, N.D.; and two brothers, Eddie Bakken of Milwaukee, Wis., and Bert Bakken of Glasgow. She is survived by two sisters, Myrtle Bredeson of Glasgow, and Alice Brockman of Barnum, Minn.; and a brother, Melvin Bakken, of Brampton, England; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Vigil will be held at Dahl Funeral Chapel, Billings, on Monday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Oct. 12, 11:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church with Rite of Committal at Mountview cemetery.

Earl Louis Porter
ST. MARIE - Earl Louis Porter, 74, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital in Billings.
Cremation has taken place. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Adams Funeral Home in Malta. Affordable Alternative Cremation & Burial Services of Billings is in charge.

Robert Jack Smith
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Robert Jack Smith, a resident of Albuquerque for 15 years, died of complications of pneumonia on Oct. 6. He was born in Red Oak, Iowa, in 1923. At age six, he moved to Wyoming, where he resided until 1985. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy; and five children: Carolyn Hicks, Patty Pedersen, Bryan, Kent, Scott; and three grandchildren, Amanda and Charlotte Raciboski, and Hans Pedersen.
During WWII he served in the Air Force in Europe. He returned to the University of Wyoming, graduating in 1948. Although Jack graduated with a degree in electrical engineering, his love was surveying, In the mid '50s he established the firm of Robert Jack Smith and Associates, which did land surveying, electrical and civil engineering. He was constantly striving to perfect more efficient methods of surveying and collecting data. In 1976 he co-founded the firm Sur-Con with James Toler, in Albuquerque.
Jack's philosophies carried over to the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors. Wyoming Gov. Cliff Hansen appointed him to the State Board in 1963. Jack mentored many students in obtaining their surveyor licenses and taught surveying courses at the University of Wyoming. He was a founding member and past president of the Wyoming Association of Consulting Engineers and Surveyors, past president and honorary member of the Wyoming Engineering Society (WES), and an honorary member of Professional Land Surveyors of Wyoming. He helped to institute a surveying program at TVI in Albuquerque. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Memorial services will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, France Memorial Presbyterian Church in Rawlins, or the WES Scholarship fund in care of Martin Pedersen, Box 1104, Rawlins, WY 82301. Camilla Young
CULBERTSON - Mrs. Camilla Young, 87, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, in the Roosevelt Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, and at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, in the Everson-Clayton Memorial Chapel. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, in the Everson-Clayton Memorial Chapel with interment in Hillside cemetery.

Wilfred J. Greufe
WOLF POINT - Wilfred Joseph Greufe, 84, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point of natural causes.

Visitation will be 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at the Clayton Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at the chapel with interment in Greenwood cemetery.

Nola Littlebear
LAME DEER - Nola Littlebear, 49, of Lame Deer, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital in Billings.

Wake services will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, at the home of Myron and Cheryl Littlebird near Ashland. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with interment in the Lame Deer cemetery. Rausch Funeral Home is in charge.

Maxwell M. Finke
Maxwell M. Finke, 85, passed away at his home on Oct. 7, 1999. Mr. Finke was born Feb. 24, 1914, in Berthold, N.D., the son of Christian and Hilda Finke. Mr. Finke was raised in North Dakota and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in engineering.

He married Elizabeth Williams in Huron, S.D., May 18, 1940. Mr. Finke was a veteran of World War II, and was retired from the U.S. Army and Soil Conservation Service. He lived most of his life in South Dakota, moving to Billings in 1995. He was a member of the Congregational Church, American Legion, a mason, and a member of NARFE.

Max was preceded in death by Elizabeth in June.

He is survived by his brother, Richard Finke of Berthold; daughter, Elizabeth Pezzetti of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; son, John Finke of Billings, son, Richard Finke of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren: Tom, Mike and Anne Pezzetti, Nicole and Kim Finke and Tim Finke; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Carlsen-Jolley Funeral Home in Sturgis, S.D., with interment at Black Hills National cemetery. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

The family requests memorials to the Arch Inc., 604 S. 37th St., Omaha, NE 68105.
