Walter Duffield
PRYOR - Walter Duffield, 83, passed away Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Valley Health Care Center. He was born May 15, 1916, in Higbee, Mo., the fifth son of George and Judith Duffield. Walter came to Pryor in 1935 and farmed and ranched there until his health forced him to retire. He left Pryor to serve in the army in World War II, in the Pacific Theatre, but returned home to his beloved Pryor Mountains where he will be buried on the family ranch.
Walter married
Bessie Ruth Bowman on Dec. 28, 1948. They raised two children, Walter William "Duffy" and Ginger Anne. His children were the light of his life along with his Hereford cattle and his old black horse.
Survivors include his son, Duffy and Sheri Duffield of Pryor; his daughter, Ginger and Dan Barber of Edgar; three grandchildren, whom he adored, Tyler and Jordan Duffield, and Keshia Barber; two brothers and one sister of Missouri; and many nieces and nephews, who were all dear to him. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at the Edgar Gymnasium. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or the charity of one's choice. Affordable Alternative Cremation & Burial Services made the arrangements.
John Keil
WORDEN - John Keil, 87, of Worden, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Eagle Cliff Manor after an extended illness.
The son of Henry and Marie Keil, John was born on May 31, l912, in Billings. John married
Elsie Foos on Feb. 23, 1932, in Columbus.
He was a hard worker and a good farmer, father, husband and friend. He and E1sie, life-long residents of Worden, retired in 1976 after which they traveled with their motor home.
Survivors include his wife Elsie; four children: Eugene (Deanna) of Worden; James (Lynn) of Worden; Donna Nevin (late Robert Nevin) of Washington; Carol (Warren) Holmes of Huntley; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leona Reiter and Helen Weber, both of Billings. He was preceded in death by his mother; dad and step dad; daughter, Marlene; two sisters, Marie and Elizabeth; three brothers, Bill Debus, Henry and Phillip; and son-in-law, Robert Nevin.
Dad, although we miss you deeply, we know you are in a better place. We will carry in our hearts forever the warmth, memory of your love, and the many personal gifts to us individually, and as a family, from your wisdom and strength of character.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the Bethlehem Congregational Church in Worden. Interment will be in Pleasantview cemetery, Ballantine. Smith Downtown Chapel in charge of arrangements. Memorials to the Bethlehem Congregational Church or the Worden Fire and Ambulance, Worden.
Audrey B. 'Pat' Scott
POWELL, Wyo. - Audrey B. "Pat" Scott, 84, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at her home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Crown Hill cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home of Lovell is in charge.
Martha Barton
Martha Barton died Oct. 14, at St. Vincent's Hospital. She was born Nov. 10, 1909, in Murray, Utah, to Nicholas and Mary Badovinus. To family and friends, Martha was 'Mart' or "Marty." At age four, she and the family moved to Klein. She attended school in Klein, Roundup and area schools. As a teenager she moved to Billings to find work as a nanny. In 1930 she married
Dewey G. Brey, a motorcycle policeman. In 1950 she married
Clyde Barton.
Mart worked in ladies ready-to-wear in Buttreys Department Store, and in 1950 started working at J.C. Penney Company in ladies ready-to-wear, retiring in 1969. Doctors advised her to move to a warmer climate because of crippling arthritis. The Bartons moved to Weatherford, Tex. in 1971. Clyde died in 1989, and Mart moved back to Billings in 1992.
Mart was never a stranger to anyone. She loved one and all. She had a remarkable recollection of people's names, their families, and how they dressed. She was an avid bridge player, crocheted miles of lace in gifts for everyone, and loved to fish.
Mart is survived by step daughters, Lorene McPherson (R) of Spokane, Wash., June (Claude) Brooks of Columbia Falls; and a step-daughter-in-law, Joan (Brian) Stahlberg of Kalispell; sisters-in-law, Hasse Long of Weatherford; Lucille Badovinus of Ballantine; and Amy Badovinus of Payson, Ariz. Martha is also survived by her sisters, Ann Giesick, Marion (Ken) Colman of Billings; a brother, Charles Badovinus (Bea) of Cody, Wyo. There are numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and step grandchildren.
Preceding Mart in death were her parents; three brothers, Donald, Nick and George; two sisters, Mary and Helen; and two sisters-in-law, Helen and Bernice Badovinus.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Smith Downtown Chapel, a reception at Sage Tower, 115 N. 24th St., and interment at 4:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be sent to the Arthritis Foundation, Montana Chapter, 1643 Lewis Ave. Billings, MT 59102.
Donald Nebel Cowley
LOVELL, Wyo. - Donald Nebel Cowley, 71, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at North Big Horn Hospital.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct 19, at Haskell Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at St. John's Lutheran Church with interment in the Lovell cemetery.

Everett 'Pete' Crook
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Everett "Pete" Crook, 73, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at the VA Medical Center.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Kane Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the funeral home, with interment in the Elks cemetery.

Frank Kukla
Frank Kukla, 78 of Billings, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at his home.
The son of Leon and Stella Kukla, Frank was born Nov. 25, 1920, in Wibaux County. When he was 14 the family moved to Wyoming. Frank married
Dorothy Jean Smith, Nov. 15, 1941, in Worland, Wyo.
Frank was a hard worker and a good farmer. He farmed with his brother at Worland for 10 years before moving to Burlington, Wyo., where he farmed for another 10 years. He then moved to the Blue Creek area where he farmed until moving to Florida in 1972. Those years farming at Blue Creek were the 10 best years of his life.
He enjoyed making wine, gardening and playing the stock market.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Billings; four children, Synde Heidema and her husband, Jack of Pryor, and Connie Roll and her husband, Gary, Merrylee Ruschkewicz and her husband, Tom, and Gerald Kukla, all of Billings; two brothers, Ollie Kukla and his wife, Margaret of Cody, and Stanley Kukla of Billings; and four grandchildren, Jonathan Roll, Josh Roll, Shannon Casares and her husband, Robert, and Jayme Roll.
Frank was preceded in death by his daughter, Jan, and his brother, Alfred.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary. Following the services a reception will be held upstairs at Charlie Browns.
Memorials may be made to Big Sky Hospice.

James Tyson Lovitt, MD
Dr. James T. Lovitt died at his residence on October 14, 1999. He was born to Olon and Elizabeth (Tyson) Lovitt on April 3, 1945, in Newark, N.J. He received his education at the University of Florida with a Medical degree from the University of Miami Medical School in 1971. He served in the U. S. Army, USA MEDDAC, at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan.
Dr. Lovitt opened a private practice in Orthopedic Surgery in Lewistown, in 1978. He joined Orthopedic Surgeons PSC in Billings in 1981. He designed the Lovitt-Jewitt back brace, pioneered several spinal procedures, and was the first Montana member of the North American Spine Society. He was also active in legislative issues regarding health care and numerous health care coalitions.
Dr. Lovitt's wide variety of interests included: flying, woodworking, hiking, canoeing, motorcycling, and martial arts. He was a collector of muzzle loaders, Persian carpets, and Japanese swords. He was an avid reader and particularly liked James Fennimore Cooper novels. Zane Grey's "Riders of the Purple Sage" inspired him to choose to live his life and build his practice in Montana.
Dr. Lovitt is survived by his mother, Elizabeth; wife, Ruthmary; sister, Ann Lovitt Czulewicz; daughters, Jennifer Lovitt Riggs and Heather Lovitt Puckett, and their husbands, Todd and Brett; step-daughter, Voss Bowman, and granddaughters, Bayley and Madeleine. He is preceded in death by his father, Olon.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at 4 p.m. at "The Perfect Place, " 3603 O'Shea Circle, Billings.
Memorials may be sent to Big Sky Hospice, Rocky Mountain College Lovitt Memorial Aviation Scholarship Fund, or St. Vincent's Hospital and Health Center Foundation.
E. F. 'Spence' Spencer
E.F. "Spence" Spencer, of Billings, was born Aug. 23, 1910, in Pierz, Minn. He passed away Oct. 15, 1999, at his home..
As a teenager he worked as a cowboy near Durango, Colo. He met and married
his wife, Doris Lloyd, in Minnesota, where Spence worked as a fishing guide and on the railroad with his father (a section foreman). Before joining the U.S. Navy in 1943, he was a painting contractor. After his hitch in the Navy, he went to Hawaii to help with post bombing reconstruction.
Spence and Doris lived in Minnesota until 1952, when they moved to Billings where he worked as a painting and paper-hanging contractor in and around Billings until retirement.
His hobbies were hunting, fishing, and traveling the West, which he loved.
He was predeceased by his brother, Orville.
He is survived by two brothers, Norman of Clovis, N.M., and Donald of Placitus, N.M.; his wife, Doris; son, Al and wife, Becky of Billings; his daughter, Delrose and her companion, Erin of Chandler, Ariz.; grandson, Paul, who followed in his grandfather's footsteps as a surface and air warfare specialist in the U.. S. Navy, with a rank of Chief Machinist Mate, his wife, Tami, and their children: Heather, Megan, Jennifer and Brooke.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Smith Downtown Chapel. Cremation has taken place. Memorials to Big Sky Hospice, P.0. Box 35033, Billings, 59107, or the charity of choice.

CODY, Wyo. - Sandra A. Witkowski, 55, died Friday, Oct. 16, 1999, at West Park Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, in conjunction with her father, Merle E. Mason's services, at Ballard Funeral Home.
Albert E. Allee
CLYDE PARK - Albert E. Allee, 61, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at his home of cancer.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston with cremation to follow. A memorial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at the Shields Valley Bible Church. Additional services and interment will be in Minnesota at a later date.

THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. - Abigail Rose Axtell, infant daughter of Jennifer and Chip Axtell, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at West Park Hospital in Cody.
A Mass Dedication will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at St. Francis Catholic Church. Mortimore Funeral Home is in charge.
