Joseph R. Larson
GREAT FALLS - Joseph R. Larson, 69, passed over Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at Benefis Hospital in Great Falls after an extended illness.
Joe was born to Lester and Amanda (Ouellette) Larson on Feb. 6, 1930, in Raleigh, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother and sister, Leona.
Survivors include four children, Colleen Pease, Ralph Larson, Bruce Larson of Billings, Sheila Larson Farber of Great Falls; brother, Duane Larson, and sister, Renee Paranteau of Great Falls; two granddaughters, Jaymie and Tara; and a great-grandson, Tyler.
Joe's hobbies were hunting and fishing. He enjoyed people and shared many wonderful stories with humor and laughter.
Dad, although you will be missed a lot by many, we know you are in a much better place and you will always be remembered for your charming smile, infectious laughter and wonderful sense of humor.
Cremation has taken place. A private memorial for family has been planned.
Tyrel Allen
SIDNEY - Tyrel Allen, 17, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, as a result of a vehicle accident.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Michael's cemetery in Sentinel Butte, N.D. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.
Sherman Crowe
POPLAR - Sherman Crowe, 76, died on Oct. 19, 1999, at the Poplar Community Hospital in Poplar.
Sherman was born July 21, 1923, in Poplar, the son of Taylor T. and Sarah Crowe. He was raised and attended schools in Poplar and Stephan, S.D. While in school he liked to play basketball and football. On May 21, 1943, he went into the U.S. Army and was discharged Jan. 25, 1946. He came back to Poplar, where he worked as a mason for different companies. He lived in Poplar most all of his life.
Sherman enjoyed basketball, working crosswords, and being with his family and friends.
Sherman was an active member in American Legion Post 54 and served on many firing squads.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sons, one daughter, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Survivors include one daughter, Drusella Crowe, a brother, Nelson Crow, and a sister, Evadna Running Bear, all of Poplar; grandchildren, Virgene Crow and Jennifer Crowe, both of Poplar, and Christopher Crowe of Medicine Lake; great-grandchildren, Richelle Melbourne and Georgia L. Longee Christiansen, both of Poplar.
Visitations will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, at the Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point and at 3 p.m. at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Michael Schneider officiating. Interment will be in the Saint Ann's cemetery, Poplar. American Legion Post 54 will perform military services.
Margaret E. Bales
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Margaret E. Bales, 92, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at Westview Healthcare Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the First Presbyterian Church with interment in the Masonic section of the Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.
Florence E. Butkay
FORSYTH - Florence E. Butkay, 82 of Forsyth, formerly of Hysham, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at the Rosebud Health Care Center in Forsyth.
Florence was born March 2, 1917, in Hysham, the daughter of Claude C. and Mae Phillips Barkhuff. She spent her youth and attended schools in Hysham.
On Oct. 28, 1933, Florence married
John Butkay in Hardin. They farmed and ranched on Sarpy Creek where they raised their family. In 1949, Florence and John moved to Bridger where Florence worked at the Clarks Fork Hotel as a hotel clerk and also as a waitress. In 1958, they moved to Minot, N.D., before returning to Hysham in 1960. Florence cooked and waitressed at various cafes in Hysham. Following their retirement in 1972, they continued to live in Hysham where Florence helped with the Hysham Senior Citizens for many years. Florence was also well known for her work in the garden, growing some of the most beautiful roses in the area.
Florence was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hysham, the Hysham Senior Citizens, Royal Neighbors of America, and the Pinochle Club. She enjoyed baking, making agate jewelry with her husband, John, and collecting state plates as well as various knickknacks.
She is survived by her husband, John of Forsyth; four children, Bev Pulver and her husband, Howard of Glendale, Ariz., and her children, Bob, Scott and Rick; Jerry Butkay and wife, Neita of Hardin and his children, Tanya, Teri, and Tim; Kay O'Donell and her husband Hod of Ennis and her children, Barbara, Casey, and Joel; and Gloria Bigelow and Ernie of Colstrip and her children, Laurie and Ernie Jr.; and 26 great-grandchildren. Florence was preceded in death by her five brothers and sisters.
Memorial graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at the Hysham cemetery with interment of the urn to follow. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is in charge of the arrangements.
Herbert E. Hein
WINDSOR HEIGHTS, Iowa - Herbert E. Hein, 77, of the 7200 block of Bellaire Ave., Windsor Heights, suffered heart arrest at his home on Wednesday. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cathedral of St. Paul. Private interment will be at the Masonic cemetery at Glendale cemetery.
Mr. Hein was born in Billings, and has lived in the Des Moines area for 50 years. He was co-owner of Frankel's Clothing, owner of Servicemaster East, member of the 1943 College All America football team from Northwestern University, coach at East High School, and a veteran of the Marine Corps in World War II and Korea. Most recently he was associated with Reichardt's Clothing. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, YMCA and National Football Foundation.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; a son, Douglas, West Des Moines; a daughter, Judi Gaylord, Urbandale; a sister, Phyllis Hook, Austin, Texas; four brothers: Marvin, Austin, Texas; Robert, Gary and Russell of Billings; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call between 5 and 7 p.m. on Friday at Dunn's Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, YMCA or the Cancer Foundation.
Lucile Mortensen
LOVELL, Wyo. - Lucile Mortensen, 92, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at North Big Horn Hospital.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Haskell Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, in the Lovell LDS Stake Center with interment in the Lovell cemetery.
Anna Belle Blair
HAVRE - Anna Belle Blair, 83, formerly of Roundup, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at a Havre hospital of natural causes.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, at the Sixth Avenue Christian Church. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home is in charge.
Richard Randall Reisdorph
LAUREL - Richard Randall Reisdorph, 69, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999. He was born March 19, 1930, in Houghton, S.D., to Edgar Frank and Blanche Sophia Reisdorph.
Dick attended schools in Frederick, S.D., and served in the Army during the Korean War. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the United Nations Service Medal with two bronze devices and the Korean Service Medal. Dick was wounded in the Battle of Hill 871 on Jan. 7, 1952, and was awarded a Purple Heart.
Dick graduated from Ellendale College. He spent his career teaching and working as a carpenter, retiring in 1987.
Dick made friends easily and will be missed by all.
He married
Dorothy Ann Otto in June 1954. She died Dec. 4, 1982. He married
Frances Signs in 1984. She passed away in 1989. Dick married
Karen Morgan on Nov. 16, 1992.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters, Jolene and Richard Worsley, Peggy and Don Furu, and Rhonda Kroll Reisdorph. Dick is also survived by siblings, Jesse and Lenore Reisdorph, Ida Mae and Raymond Carson, Evelyn and Horace Carson, C.C. and Bethel Reisdorph, Roberta Kinney, Julie Jury, Robert and Virginia Reisdorph, Ron and Frances Reisdorph, Jean and Miles Miller, Marge and Dennis Olsen; grandchildren, Steve Worsley, Tara Trenholm, Sara Furu and Donald Furu; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Colter Trenholm.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Kenny, Art and Wesley.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Locomotive Restaurant Banquet Room in Laurel. Interment of the created remains will be at a later date in the Laurel cemetery.
Wyvil Lee Kelly
MELVILLE - Wyvil Lee Kelly, 56, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at the family home near Melville.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Lowry Funeral Home in Big Timber.
Elmer Edward Holliday
ROUNDUP - Elmer Edward Holliday, 78, of Roundup, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at the Roundup Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 3, 1921, to Aaron and Lillian (Buckey) Holliday. He was raised with his four brothers on the family ranch on Parrott Creek. In 1938 be graduated from Roundup High School.
Elmer enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served through the end of the European Campaign, where he attained rank of staff sergeant, and was awarded the Bronze Star.
After his enlistment he returned home to the family ranch.
In 1951 he married
Betty Roberts, of Musselshell, and they had one son, Allan. Elmer worked many years for the County of Musselshell, and various contractors as an equipment operator.
In 1979 he married
Pauline (Knapp) Daniels, and together they operated Green Acres Supper Club until they retired.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and past officer of the local VFW post.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Aaron and Jim; and stepdaughter, Betty Benson. Survivors include: wife, Pauline; son, Allan (Marty Jo); brothers, Frank (Gay) and Roy; stepson, Paul (Kathy); two grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at the Wier Funeral Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Roundup City cemetery. Wier Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Ellsworth Gross
MILES CITY - Ellsworth Gross, 81, formerly of Forsyth, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at the Miles City Veterans Administration Nursing Home.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Beals Mortuary Chapel in Forsyth with interment in the Forsyth cemetery.
Marjorie Collins Waite
SEATTLE - Marjorie Collins Waite passed away Sept. 28, 1999. She was born in Red Lodge, Mont., Dec. 9, 1914, to Mark and Florance French Early.
She married
Leroy (Biggy) Collins of Fromberg, Mont., in 1933. One daughter, Margaret Dorene, was born to this union. They moved to Seattle in 1943. Mr. Collins died in 1961. She married
Jesse Waite in 1965; he died in 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Raymond and Donald Early; one grandson, Tom Stokes; and her stepmother, Rhea Early. She was a member of Delta Chapter No. 109 of OES.
Mrs. Waite was employed at J.C. Penney, Bon Marche and Boeing Co.
Surviving are her daughter, Dorene Collins; three grandchildren: David (Debbie) Stokes, Alaska; Debbie (Rich) Taylor, Ron (Kim) Stokes, both of Seattle; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean (Thorvald) Fiveland, Absarokee, Mont.; sister-in-law, Lorraine Early, Seattle; one brother-in-law, Frank (Trudy) Collins of Billings, Mont.; and three nieces and three nephews.
Graveside Services were held Oct. 2, 1999, in Seattle, at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial cemetery.
George Schafer
SIDNEY - George Schafer, 97, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at the Sidney Health Center-Extended Care Facility.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Lonsdale United Methodist Church with interment in the Sidney cemetery.

Edmund Reilly
TROY - Edmund Reilly, 86, formerly of Terry, died Oct. 8, 1999.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry.
